Early Watch not Producing Word.doc, or HTML Reports

Hello all,
I've managed to maintain the SDCCN, and the jobs associated with producing an Early Watch.
However, the process isn't producing any attachments, including a word doc, or an HTML report.
Oddly, in the operations screen from the CEN, I'm not able to view the report session at all, despite the Early Watch report being in the monitored system as a tree structure.
When trying to view the session through the operations screen in solution overview, the system throws that it cannot be viewed:
Cannot open session
Message no. DSWP033
Even odder is that the icon (the two bottles) suggests "Data has been transferred".
Any suggestions would be most helpful.

In case any searches on this and needs a solution...
Believe it or not, the error was b/c of the >decimal< settings in my user ID. How very odd.
However, if you continue to get odd messages, please make sure that your user is set to display with decimals between powers of 10, and commas between powers of 1/10th.

• Can not edit Word docs after converting from a ExportPDF file. The PDF file is converted into a non-editable Word Doc image.

Converting a PDF file (scanned copy Adobe Reader X) to a Word Doc using ExportPDF conversion. The Word Doc created is a image file which is not editable. I need an editable Word Doc file.

Hi robertw,
Can you please tell me more about how the PDF was created? (If you don't know, choose File > Properties, and look for the PDF Producer on the Description tab.)
If the PDF was created by a third-party PDF creator, it may be that it's not well-written, and that can affect the quality of the conversion. See Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and form... | Adobe Community.
That said, you may be able to select the text by triple-clicking in the Word document.
Please let us know how it goes.
Best,

• Adobe Acrobat X Pro: Create PDF Portfolio not previewing Word docs

******BUG******
Concise problem statement:
Word documents won't preview on an Adobe PDF Portfolio, while other Office documents (Excel, PowerPoint, etc) will. It only shows a Word icon on the preview and you have to double-click the file to open it on actual word. This is not the way Acrobat is supposed to behave.
NOTE: Adobe Acrobat 10.1.2 (latest version) and Office 2010 Suite w/ SP1 installed.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Create a PDF Portfolio
2. Add Word (.doc, .docx) files to the Portfolio
3. Click on Preview and you will see a Word icon instead of a thumbnail preview.
Results:
You will see a word icon
Expected results:
A thumbnail preview of the document like it happens with Excel, PowerPoint, etc...
Can you guys reproduce this error? What do you think?

Here is what I am talking about...
Those files should be previewed and not just display a thumbnail with a Word icon.

• "Merge files into a single PDF" does not support Word Docs

I am using Acrobat 9 and Office 2007. I am trying to convert 100 Word docs into a single PDF. However, Word is not supported. In acrobat, I go to preferences and then Convert to PDF, Word is not listed. I have excel and powerpoint but not Word. Anyway to include Word as supported documents?

I had a difficult time finding the answer on the web. Finally found a forum with my answer to share with others facing the same issue. Last entry worked for me.

• Displaying Word Doc in PDF report

Hi,,,
Our web application( using OC4J ) use oracle reports for printing and generate pdf . The problem we're having now is we have to use formating such us indent, bullets, tabs etc.
We tried saving it in html format but could not find a away to read it and format it to pdf.
Other solutin we tried is to store word doc in blob and try to read it but not successfull also ..
Any thought on this ? Please help ..
Desperado ....

Hi,
to use formating such us indent, bullets, tabs etc. Can't you use Acrobat writer to do this? I mean, generate PDF files from Reports, open them in Acrobat writer, and edit.
Else, did you try output to RTF, then open it in MS Word, format it and convert to PDF (need Acrobat writer again).

• Opening a word doc from HTML in IE

Hi Guys,
In my portal, i have one html page, where there is a link to open a word document, if i click on that link, it is directly showing the content on the html page, rather than asking for whether you want to save that word file or open a file or cancel.....where as if i run it on firefox, it does what i expected.
can anybody suggest wht should i modify in my html to work it on IE.
Thanks
John

Hi Tim,
Thank you for your advice, I already tried that but did not work.
Any way i have found the solution, I have added the following lines of code (for word and excel) in web.xml which worked fine for me.
<mime-mapping>
<extension>docx</extension>
<mime-type>application/vnd.ms-word.document.macroEnabled.12.docm</mime-type>
</mime-mapping>
<mime-mapping>
<extension>xlsx</extension>
<mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel.addin.macroEnabled.12xlam</mime-type>
</mime-mapping>

• Acrobat Pro X not converting word docs properly

When I convert to PDF a word docco with call outs, the text in the callouts is fragmented? has anyone else seen this? (office 2010) I used the print method and the icon on the ribbon both give me the same results. When I use Word to convert to PDF all is well? and it seems a bit faster?

Try a print-to-file with the Adobe PDF printer. Then open that file in Distiller. If you get a PDF, then you most likely do not have AcroTray running in the background. Start AcroTray in that case and try again using the normal print.
The update is also needed. I think that AA8.1 was the first to work on VISTA properly.

• Pages not opening word *.docs after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Just up graded to Snow Leopard and tried opening word documents in Pages and no joy! "This document ** couldn't be opened. I am running iwork09. It was all working fine previously. Any ideas?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
Make sure you are using the latest version. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated.
If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

• QuickLook does not show Word .doc files.

In the past two days, QuickLook has stopped showing the contents of older Word documents (.doc or 97-2004). It still works for the current file type, .docx. The icons just show the old "W" and page logo and that's all that comes up in QL. If I save a .doc as a .docx it is fine. Has anyone encountered this problem? I get many, many .doc files from work, which only recently upgraded from Office 2003....

Before you do this insert your original dvd, then restart holding the c key until the grey apple logo screen appears. When it asks to select language do so. On the next screen select Disk utility from the tools/utilities menu. Select your HD and do a Repair Disk. If errors are indicated and repairs are shown as successful, rerun this until there are no errors indicated. Also do the Repair Permissions option while in this mode.
After all this restart and see whether all goes well.
This process will be a lot quicker than a reinstall if it solves the problems.

• Table data in html from word doc

I have a nice looking invoice word doc I would like to use to make a apex report. The word doc has a table with all the numeric data for the invoice, pretty simple. I saved the word doc as html and used a program to strip all the excess html. I put the html into a apex report as a html region and it looks perfect. What is the best way to get SQL data into the html table in the region.
Do I have to create a SQL region and then put the html data into the header and footer, am I missing something simple?
Thanks

794181,
I'd take the HTML and use it as the framework for a named column template. This will allow you to put the data from your query in to the exact spots it needs to go.
To make a named column template, go to shared components, templates, create, report; for "Template Type:", select "Named Column (row template)".
Named column templates are fairly easy to set up, but that also seems to mean that it's hard to find documentation for them. Basically, define your query, and then use #<COLUMN_NAME># in your HTML, replacing <COLUMN_NAME> with the actual names of the columns from your query.
Oh, and generally, you won't want to set up a column heading template in your named column template--I almost always just fill in Row Template 1, Before Rows, and After Rows.

• Insert OLE Word doc not showing all pages

Hi All,
I'm running a test on this before I get all involved in it.
I insert a multi page Word doc into my report.
When I run it, it only shows the first page.
That's the first problem.
When I export it as a Word doc, it exports only that page
and now it's become a non editable graphic.
I need it to be exportable to Word and editable.
That's the second problem.
Am I attempting the impossible ?
Thank you,
Jimmy

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for your reply.
We have a Word document that gets sent out to about 400 schools.
I'm trying to take some of the redundancy out of the task by inserting
Institution Name
Director
Address
etc on the header of the document so that my colleges
won't have to look up each school, find the director, address,
etc and manually type it all in. Then the report gets exported
to Word, where further editing is done.
Also, the tables that they have built in Word must also
retain their integrity, being imported into AND being exported
from Crystal, as a Word document.
I could do this easily, and have, using text boxes, etc. Problem
is, it has to be done in Word. (That's what they're use to working with
Oh, my set up is:
Crystal 11.5
Stand alone desktop, no network. (Just me and the lone prairie ...)
Am I expecting too much ?
Thanks for the 3rd party info. That explains a lot.

• Repository reports cannot generate HTML report

Hello
In our Computing Labs, we have Oracle9i Designer installed on Windows XP Professional.
Our students are having a problem when they try to Run Report in Repository Reports.
The student first sees an error message for Internet Explorer that says "Cannot find "file:///c:/docume~1/%username%/LOACLS~1/Temp/ck*.tmp.html". Make sure...". %username% of course being the current user and ck* being the filename of the report.
If the user examines the contents of ~/Local settings/Temp, they will see that when this error message comes up, there is a file ck*.tmp (no HTML extension). The HTML file is never generated though.
When the user click on the OK button for the error message, Internet Explorer open to a blank page. When IE is closed, Repository Reports posts a message that says "CDI-21309: Unable to delete file c:\docume~1\%username%\locals~1\Temp\ck*.tmp.html". When the OK button from this message is clicked the user is returned to Repository Reports, but the report is never generated.
Our users are set up as Dynamic Local Users, and are members of the Power Users group. We do have some pretty tight restrictions on Group Policy.
When a user who is a member of Administrators (also dynamic local user) logs in and attempts to create a report, (s)he has no problem. Repository Reports functions exactly as it should.
I have already given Power Users complete access to all files on the hard drive, so I don't think it could be an NTFS file permission issue.
If anyone has any advice, it is certainly welcome. Our students need to be able to print off these reports for classes, and I am not familiar at all with Designer.
Thank you very much

Here is how I resolved my problem with non admin users not being able to run reports.
Designer 9i ver 9.0.2.80.6
Repository Reports ver 9.0.2.80.4
Problem - When non Administrator users try to generate a report in Repository Reports, they either get a file not found error for the HTML report (and IE will not show the report) or Repository Reports stops responding (and rwrun.exe has to be manually killed).
Fixes
-%TMP% and %TEMP% environment variables must resolve to paths that are fewer than 30 characters. In our environment (WindowsXP with Novell Dynamic Local Users), %TMP% and %TEMP% were the temp folders in the user's profile, which is a long path. Changing the environment variables to point to c:\temp was one step in resolving the issue. Although there is a patch released related to this, my installed version is post-patch and I still had to change the temp environment variables.
-HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0\REPORTS_TMP must be set to a writable area for the user group using Designer and Reports. In our environment it was set (during install) to the local administrators temp space (in administrators local profile) - I'd guess it gets set to whatever %TMP% or %TEMP% is for whichever user installs the application. Our users cannot write to this folder, so setting this registry value to c:\temp was another step in resolving the issue.
-c:\OraHome1\reports\logs must be writable for whichever user group is running Reports. Before making this change but after making the previous two changes, reports would simply freeze for Power Users. When trying to log off, rwrun.exe had to be manually killed - and sometimes a Dr Watson report would come up and ask to be sent in. By granting the user group that uses Reports write permissions to this folder (or the equivalent in your environment), Repositry Reports no longer freezes and successfully generates the HTML report.
