Easy CSS Question......but not for me :(

Question

Thanks up front!
Have a external style sheet...... in the style sheet I have
font attributes defined for a specific rule (#content), color,
size, weight, family, etc.
When I attempt to change one word to a different color using
inline or internal it doesnt work.
Does the external style sheet just override anything I try to
define within the DIV?
Should I remove the all of the font info from the #content
and just create different styles and apply them to the seperate
instances?

How are you attempting to do this? Post a link so we can see
the page.
