Edit Excel file opend

After open an Excel spreadsheet manually, is there a way to use PS to edit it without open another copy?

Only one editable copy can be opened at a time without using a collabration server.
No.
However if you open it with PowerShell you can edit it directly as wellas in PowerShell.
Try it.

  • How to edit Excel files in MacBook Pro

I just got my first Mac and I am wondering if there are any programs/apps other than numbers or excel for Mac that I can use to edit excel files I have stored in my Dropbox account.  I only have a few files and don't really want to spend alot of money on the previously mention apps/programs since I probably won't be using it alot.   Any suggestion would be appreciated..thanks

I agree with Niel - OpenOffice is the way to go - http://www.openoffice.org/download/.
I have Office 2011, so I don't use OpenOffice too often, but it's nice to have something which costs nothing (save the blood and sweat of those who participate in making it work) that will open Word, Excel, etc., documents.
    Good luck,

  • How to edit Excel files online

HI, is it possible to edit Excel files online, which where uploaded to webserver. I mean, opening an ecxel sheet changing different fields, and saving the changes without opening the .xls with my local office?
    If yes, how?

you could try it with http://jakarta.apache.org/poi
That is a package that allows reading and writing of excel files, it wont be easy as you have to parse the excell file into HTMl that is editable.

  • Unable to edit Excel file via WebDAV in IE

    LS,
    Aim
To be able to open an Excel file in Oracle Portal via IE for editing (ergo, if changed it needs to be saved in the same location where it resides = database)
What have we done so far
OraDAV has been implemented (basic manner), a pagegroup has been created in Oracle Portal for security, next we stored some Excel files for test purposes.
Opening and editing using Windows Explorer (when testing) works fine, but opening from browser (Internet Explorer) opens Excel-file in read-only mode!
    Workaround
Create windows shortcuts to Excel files in the OraDAV Webfolder, shortcuts are then placed in a public Windows-share which is running on a workstation.
Accessing these shortcuts from both Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer works fine then.
    But...
Unfortunately, implementing a windows share on a server is considered to be not an option by the network security team, and it's also not an option to continue using a workstation for that purpose.
What does Metalink say (we created TAR for this)
    CLARIFICATION
    ====================
    This issue happens on WEBDAV.
    Using=>Windows Explorer it works fine.
Using=>Internet Explorer it does not do as the customer aspected.
    Webdav:
    Using=>Windows Explorer
    going to folder
    http://<machine>:7778/dav_portal/.../QA1.XLS
double clicked QA1.XLS and this opens in Microsoft Excel.
After made modifications the file is saved correctly without any issue.
    Using=>Internet Explorer
    Calling the
    URL:http://<machine>:7778/.../QA1.XLS
the file QA1.XLS opens within Internet Explorer the Microsoft Excel plugin.
Problem is it the file opened in read-only mode and when you click save it wants to save
    in local drive.

They are all behaving the same.

    Integrating with the desktop
File-type item content can also be published to the portal repository via the Webbased Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol. Using a WebDAV client such as Windows Explorer, a portal page group can be mapped as a Web Folder. Users can then simply drag and drop content, files, and folders between portal pages and the desktop. File-type items can also be opened, edited, and saved directly from WebDAV desktop applications like MS Office 2000.
    Thus...
Even though Metalink is implying it is not possible, one would think it IS possible, since IE is also a valid WebDAV client.
    Bottom line
Does anyone know how to set up Portal in combination with WebDAV to ensure editing of Excel files will happen via Internet Explorer AND changes will be saved back onto the original location
    Thanks, Patrick

    hi patrick,
this problem is not solvable on the serverside since this is a desktop integration problem. since you want to use excel as your editor you have to use excel's client side software.
oracle drive purely addresses desktop integration and is not meant to be a server side component. it is a webdav client and for that only ensures that the communication between the client and the portal server has as much useful functionality as possible.
the only other option that i see is downloading the document to the client, update it and copy it back up to the portal server, which is cumbersome.
all webdav clients are client side software that is either shipped with the OS (MS webfolders) or needs to be installed on the client (oracle drive).
you could check if there is software availble that is an excel plug-in for internet explorer which at the same time talks webdav to portal. not sure if this exists ?

Imagine if the forum had an extra layer between the "Post" button and actually posting the thread.
It would automatically search the forum (google too perhaps) based on identified key words (create edit excel) in this case and suggest a list of existing threads.
That would give the originator the chance to find the answer they were looking for without starting a new thread.
We know that some of these users can't be bothered to search (the beauty of the internet...) so why not do it for them.

  • Unable to edit excel files on my Lumia 710

I am using a Lumia 710. I have synced it through Skydrive with my Laptop with Windows 8 64 Bit OS and MS Office 2010. My Excel & Word Documents are in the .xlsx & docx formats, hence presumably I should be able to edit them on my mobile. However, I am able to edit some of the excel files whereas in the others I am unable to edit. How can I overcome this?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
Sorry to hear that. It's best to contact Microsoft about it since they determine the supported languages in Windows Phones.

  • What is the best App for filing, viewing, editing excel?

I need help choosing the best app to work with excel for the ipad. I have mariner calc and am unhappy with it. It drops out quite a bit of formatting and you cannot file in folders. What is the best option?
    Thanks!

To Edit excel files the best app right now is currently Numbers, Numbers is severely limited in file organization and sharing right now. If all you need to do is look at excel files you have a couple options.
    Option 1 (Requires Connectivity):
Place the file on the web and view it in safari
    Option 2 (Offline use):
Use Goodreader to download and save your files, you can create folder Heiarchies and copy files from your computer using a sync cable from itunes, via email, or even through wifi.
If you can find something that combines the two options please let me know as I have been looking for solutions to this problem too. I wish apple had a shared folder space where apps could save files to be used in multiple programs much like they do with the photo albums

  • Adobe XI Pro convert PDF to an editable EXCEL spreadsheet.  It converted to an unusable table in excel?

I have viewed prior posts about converting a PDF to an Editable EXCEL file - I followed those
instructions but when it converted put it in an unusable table in EXCEL.  Help Please!
I contacted Adobe - this is a scanned document & they say they don't have a work around.

    Hey holidayw83568561,
Could you please run OCR first before converting the PDF to Excel format.
Also, let me know how does your Excel table appear and what exactly do you mean by saying 'unusable' table.
If possible, please share the screenshot of the same so that I can analyze the issue.
What exact dot version of Acrobat XI are you using?
    Hope to hear from you.

  • How to edit a spreadsheet (excel file) in the portal?

    Hello experts,
at the moment i am working on the requirement to edit a spreadsheet in the portal.
Until now i was able to display an excel file with the help of the 'KM Document iView (without content filter)'.
Everything is displayed alright and i can perform changes in the spreadsheet.
BUT: There is no such thing like a Save-Button or something like that. Does the SAP NW Portal already provide a solution for this requirement? Or will i have to develop an own application?
I have already searched the forums and sap help, but i haven't found any solution. I can't imagine that such an easy requirement would need coding.
    Best Regards
    Marcus
(Po*nts will be rewarded for good answers)

    Hi Marcus,
I do not think you can do the task the way you want. You will have to look for some workaround that may be download the file, edit it and then upload it back. You will have to code in your application for that. If you want to do this way I can help you further to edit and save the excel.
    Regards.

  • Can you recommend an iPad app to open and edit MS Excel files?

    Hi,
I need an iPad app that would enable me to do the following with a MS Excel file:
    Import the file from Dropbox
    Edit and save the file
Export the edited file back to Dropbox
Can anyone recommend an app that can do the above?
    Thanks
    Daniel

Thanks for the feedback. I have read the reviews of both apps and they are not that great. The DropBox functionality seems to work finenwith both apps.
I want to use the spreadsheet on both my iPad and PC. The reviews of both apps mention that some reformatting of the .xls file can occur when saving it in the app. Have any of you experienced this? I will only be using the app for simple .xls files with normal/simple formulas. Nothing complicated at all. I might use it for Word files, but I have no use for PowerPoint. The only time I might use the PowerPoint functionality is if I happen to receive such a file via email. I'm still using Office 2003 with no intention to upgrade anytime soon as it is just fine for my needs.
The QuickOffice Pro HD app is currently on sale for $11.99 whereas the Documents to Go Premium app that supports DropBox is $16.99. D2G is an universal app and QOP is not.
Any suggestions on which app is the better one would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Daniel

  • Edit .app file in excel and then open it in client tool?

    Dear Gurus,
I am very new to HFM and would like to know what practice a HFM consultant will use in editing the metadata.
My boss recommend me to edit metadata( .app file) in excel and save it into a format that can be read and opened by client tool.
However, I find no way to achieve this.
How can i edit metadata in excel and then open it in HFM client tool?

    Good morning,
I think the best way to do it it's working with macros. You can work with an Excel file and then, convert it to the .txt format by using macros. A .txt is more suitable to be later worked as .app.
However, you can also do it by using Copy/Paste.
    1. Open the .app in a Note Pad, so you can work with .txt file.
    2. Copy the .txt data in the Excel file.
    3. Then, it's just working with Data > Text to Columns to format the file. Then, you can work in Excel.
Then, you will have to put the Excel file in a .txt, so you will have to follow the data files requirements. You still can do this manually, but you will have to pay attention to the format (FILE_FORMAT=11.1.2, !VERSION=11.1.3609, !CUSTOM_ORDER=Custom1;Custom2;Custom3;Custom4, !APPLICATION_SETTINGS, !CURRENCIES, etc., as it is the Admin Guide). It will also depend on the HFM version you're working with, specially when working with customs.
I received a good document about a couple of months ago that can be helpful, so if you send me an email address, I'll forward it.

    Lu

    Hello,
There are some words missing for me to understand exactly what you want to do.  You state "I would like to be able the data...."  What is it you want to do with the data.  I'm guessing that you want to be able to ADD the data to an exising Excel file without disturbing the old data.  Is that true.  I couldn't tell from your vi's because I couldn't properly open them.  I have LabView 7.1 and I may not have all of the sub-vi's you do.  It would help if you would save your vi's into an library file with the supporting vi's included.  Then I can easily open the vi and look at it.  Try "Save with Options" and tick "Application Distribution".  It should default to a library file (llb).  Then post that.
