Edit stereoscopic (3d) footage

I'm trying to edit stereoscopic (3d) footage. I've seen some tutorials of Dave Helmly. I 'm using AVCHD 3D (.MTS) files. I'm expecting to see a Side-by-side image in the program monitor and  hope to see an actual 3D image on my 3D screen. But that doesn't happen. I have installed the QuickS3D Lite plugin; no difference.
What is going wrong?
My HP Z400 workstation has a NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 installed.

  • Final Cut and QT can't view/edit PAL HD footage recieved from Germany...

Final Cut and QT can't view/edit PAL HD footage I recieved from Germany - I spoke to filmer and he told me that it is HDV 1080i50.
I downloaded program VLC and was able to view the footage through there.
When I import it into FCP, it ether shows a black screen or crashes immediately - in QT, it only shows a white screen.
I have downloaded the QT plugin for MPEG movies.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

If it's MPEG-2, chances are its a muxed file. You should be able to use MPEG Streamclip to demux and convert the file into whatever format matches your FCP Sequence specs.
But 1440 x 81? That doesn't sound right at all.

  • Editing with Standard Footage (DV) with Final Cut Pro X

It is possible to edit with Standard Footage (DV) with Final Cut Pro X? How? Thanks for your kind responses

The usual way is to make a new project and have the settings based on the video. You make the project, put a DV file in it, and the project properties will be set. If you don't have a DV file to use, you make a new project, use custom settings and select the format you want NTSC or PAL, anamorphic or 4:3.

  • I've accidentally imported and edited my hd footage onto an ntsc timeline.

I've accidentally imported and edited my hd footage onto an ntsc timeline.  I'd like to export it now, but it is not preserving the hd ratio without being letterboxed.  I've changed the settings on the sequence to hd 960x720, but the footage now looks stretched and squeezed in the viewer.  How can I get my footage looking the way it should and on a sequence with the right settings?  Thanks.

While I have you though...what is the difference between the two HD export options when exporting with quicktime converter?  One option has a 16x9 next to it, one doesn't.  I'm assuming since my footage was captured natively 16x9 that I do not need to choose the HD with 16x9 option?  Or should I choose this if I plan on posting to the web, so that it is embedded as and knows to play as a 16x9 HD video online?  Sorry if that is horribly worded and difficult to understand. Thanks.

  • Editing stereoscopic footage ("3D film") using FCP

Does anyone have any work around to doing stereoscopic editing using FCP?
We've been debating the viability of wrapping the left and right eye images in Quicktime, making it "invisible" to FCP.
I am curious if anyone has evaluated or used the product for stereoscopic film editing.
    Markus

I only know that Avid has just announced support for stereoscopic editing in Media Composer v3.5. FCP has never claimed any real ability to do it that I know of. I always assumed that people edited with just one eye, then separately assembled the two images for screenings. If the timecode matches for both eyes that shouldn't be too hard. But if you need to edit and monitor in 3-D all the time I'd guess you're looking at some hard work to make it happen in FCP.

  • Possible to edit DVCPro HD footage in iMovie?

I'm shooting DVCPro HD on a Panasonic HPX170.  My friend asked me to shoot and deliver footage to be edited in iMovie, so he can edit it himself.  Is this possible?  If so, please list the necessary steps.

iMovie doesn't work with DVCPRO HD...as that is a professional format and iMovie is a consumer app. If you capture it with FCP, you will have to then import all the footage into iMovie on your end and give him that.  The footage will be converted to Apple Intermediate Codec.  And note that what they do in iMovie, stays in iMovie.  They will not be able to get you anything that will allow you to online/finish in FCP.  It will have to stay in iMovie.
Capture in FCP (tutorial: <http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1)...then open iMovie and import all the footage.  Make sure you direct iMovie to import onto an external drive.  How?  No clue...I don't use imovie.

  • Offline/Online Edit for xdcam footage

I am using Sony F3 camera and Sony FS100 footage with final cut 7. Both have different format, One use XDCAM and other use AVCHD. I didn't have any problem transcoding F3 footage in its native form and FS100 footage in Prores LT for offline edit.
I wanted to edit both in proRes LT as offline edit. I was also able to convert both footage in ProRes LT and edit it.
But the problem arised when i was reconforming for online edit. I wanted to connect both as ProRes HQ. My offline footage was able to reconnect with both but for XDCAM it connected to native instead of proRes. Is there way to connect it to ProResHQ?
    Thanks in advance

Yeah.  Take the native stuff offline.  Disconnect the drive the files are on.  If they are on the same drive as the HQ...separate them.

  • Quality of edited vs. raw footage

    Hello,
I recently edited together a short video out of clips from my GoPro 3 Black, and then imported that sequence to Encore and burned to Bluray along with the raw footage I had taken. The editing was just cuts, and I layered in a song. I noticed when testing the Bluray that the video quality of the edited sequence is not as good as the raw footage, there is quite a bit of artifacting compared to the raw stuff. Any ideas why this would be? I've done quite a lot of basic editing, but don't really know that much about transcoding and codecs and whatnot.
Edit: I'm not sure that this is useful or not, I don't think it is, but anyways, before I imported my sequence to Encore, I thought I had to export the video from premiere for Bluray, so I did that, but then I found I could just import my sequence in Encore, so I don't think that export was used. At leas that is my assumption.

Would the settings you are referencing be the "Default Transcode Settings?" I have Encore set to:
The rest are grayed out and can't be changed, 1440x1080, 29.97, Upper Field First.
The default transcode settings are applied to menus and slideshows. You can specify many other options for assets used in timelines.
The greyed out settings you pick when you create a new project. Then they cannot be changed for that project.
A custom transcode setting can be chosen at any point prior to building a disc. You have access to any preset in AME, and can customize a presets bitrate.

  • Should I use premiere elements for editing 24p DSLR footage?

Have been shooting with a t4i in 24p and am doing some small business videos - I need some advice on whether I should use premiere elements to edit this footage.  Also need to be able drawing lines, add arrows and animate them etc.  Is this beyond premiere?  Have been using elements for about 5 years on and off, maybe time to step it up?

    fishmor
I do not see why not.
It is getting late where I am so I will leave you with some things to consider -
This is what I have found ouy about 24p mentions in Premiere Elements that seem to have no function...

Probably more than you want to know but.....
As for ability to draw lines, add arrows, and animate them, etc. See program's Titler and its Text Styles Animations Shape sections.
The Premiere Elements Titler offers more opportunities than just text titles. But, sometimes you may want to create a graphic in Photoshop Elements and import it into Premiere Elements. Keep in mind that Premiere Pro is not a photo editor either. Some things that I have done in Premiere Elements in the way of animation....

  • Final Cut Pro 6.05 Crashes Using Trim Edit Window - RED footage

    Hello,
I ingested the RED video through log and transfer using Apple Pro Res 422 as described in the *Using RED Media with Final Cut Studio* document. The ingesting process and rough cutting have gone fine (no more problems than working with SD footage anyway) but FC Pro 6.0.5 crashes consistently (and not gracefully) when I try to use the trim edit window.
The short film is at 22 minutes now, and will finish up around 25 minutes. My source files are on a 1Tb Lacie drive (about 280 Gb free) and I'm working off a second 1Tb Lacie drive (about 200Gb free). Both are connected via Firewire 400. I tried going back to an old SD file to see if trim edit works there and it does.
    Questions:
Anyone else having problems with this?
Is my system beefy enough to handle this footage? If not, what suggestions do you have for making it work better?
If I just need to live with it, do you have any suggestions for workarounds?
    Thanks and happy new year!

Thanks Jerry - that makes sense. I wanted to move to a Mac Pro tower for this project but was laid off in June and haven't had much luck finding steady work.
I'm seeing similar issues with Motion - it doesn't crash but it will hang the system up completely. I've been looking for a good reference that will help me determine the best system I can build for the purpose of HD editing and Motion graphics - do you have any recommendations?

  • Will my comp be able to edit uncompressed quicktime footage?

I have an iMac 3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo, i3 with 16GB RAM.
I'm thinking of buying a Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle with a 60GB SSD, so I can record uncompressed HD footage from my Canon HV40. I plan to copy the uncompressed QT file that will be created by the Shuttle, to my computer for insertion into After Effects, and to there apply effects.
My question is: will that computer be fast enough to handle such large files?
    Thank you.

My computer specs are: G5 PowerPC, 2.0Ghz Dual core processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 MB Ati Radeon 9800 pro graphics card and Final Cut pro 6.0.6.
To be clear, your is a dual processor, not a dual core.
An image is an image. As long as you can get the photos from the camera to the computer, your software should work as it always does.
Now, are you really asking about RAW support, or some other format support?

Will it be able to edit the footage if I converted it to Apple Prores (LP, HQ or standard)?
    Video?

It is highly probable that your G5 is a bit old, slow, and that the software a bit late to be fully compatible with the Canon.

  • Getting an error message while editing RED .r3d footage.

    Hi All,
I have been working on a music video that was shot on a RED and having some problems and I'm not sure if it has to do with the file types or not. Everything was working well, almost without a hitch, until I had about 30 seconds of footage edited.
Then after effects would crash on loading the file without a log, or it would crash in any project (even a blank one) after a minute or so, with this message:
Last log message was: <140735165743488> <ae.blitpipe> <2> Making New Context
I have no idea what to do from here, our deadline is sunday and I have a lot of keying and masking to do.
Please help me troubleshoot this, I have a macbook pro 15 inch with a retina display.

In finder use the Go menu and hold down the Option key to reveal the Library. You can also open up preferences and click Reveal Preferences in Finder at the bottom of the General page. Another option is to hold down the Alt/Option + Ctrl/Cmnd + Shift When you launch AE and it will give you the option to delete your preferences file. I'm replying to this post from my iPhone, I'm not really sure about the shift key. Give it a try with, and if that doesn't work without.

  • Are these parts ok for a premiere pro system(editing mostly dslr footage)?

    Hi
I'm planning on getting a editing system for cs5.5. I'll be dealing mostly with dslr footage. Could you point out if there's anything "wrong" with the following system:
motherboard: ASRock Z68 Pro3, Z68(it has integrated graphics which I can disable in BIOS right?)
    cpu: Intel Core i7 2600K
    cpu cooler: Thermalright HR-02 Macho
    gpu: Nvidia GeForce GTX560 Ti (1Gb gddr5)
    16Gb ram (2x G.Skill RipJaws-X DIMM Kit 8GB PC3-12800U CL9-9-9-24 (DDR3-1600) (Sandy Bridge))
psu: XFX Core Edition PRO 550W
    case: Fractal Design Define R3
4x Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB(#1 for Os, programs and pagefile. #2 and #3 for media and projects in RAID-0. #4 for scratch and exports.)
    BD-RW
    Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1 OEM
    Any advice will be appreciated.

Ok, one more question. Which one would you pick?
XFX Core Edition PRO 750W     http://xfxforce.com/en-gb/Products/PSU/Pro-Series/750W-PSU.aspx?product=34617

  • Editing Audio from Footage

I want to edit some audio from some video footage. Under the process menu in Sountrack Pro which items should I pay attention for refining the audio qaulity.
The audio basically sounds fine, but I want to make sure it meets industry benchmarks for audio qaulity.
    - Anthony

    Hey,
Just an alternative suggestion consider moving up to at least Tiger 10.4.3, it increaes the speed on STP by a ton, it goes with a PROAPP-Runtime 3.1, that helped me considerably for taking the time to apply heavy filters like Space Designer.
Basically all you have to do with dialogue is compensate the EQ lacks, where there's a drop in high pitch volume for instance add some high EQ like the AU graphic 10 band, 8khz. You don't need much more than that just remember that dialogue centers between about 4hz and 8khz, so don't worry about anything higher, you can even run a lowpass filter, and use the cutoff at around the highest frequency of dialogue, 8-10khz, to compare for music it would be about 20khz.
