Editing a Completed Form

Greetings all,
I'm using Designer 8 and I have stumbled upon a problem.  I created a form with a large amount of fields and the fields have had their info entered into them.  But now when I go to print, the form has the "Submit by email" and "Print Form" buttons on them.  If I choose to edit the form to make the buttons visible on screen only, saving it will erase all the info I've entered into the fields.
Is there any way to edit the form but still keep the field entries?

Hi,
On the basis that ALL of the fields in the form have binding set to "Normal" or "Name" (can't remember which one was present in LC Designer 8) - see the Object > Binding palette.
If this is the case, then open the form in Acrobat (Standard or Pro) and in the Forms menu, select "Manage Form Data" and "Export Data". This will prompt you to save the form data as an XML file.
Then edit the form in LC Designer.
Then reopen the new version in Acrobat and from the Forms menu, select "Manage Form Data" and "Import Data". Browse to the XML file and click OK. This will import the data back into the form.
Note that if any object has binding set to "None", then data in this object will not participate in the export/import.
Good luck,
Niall

  • Email Completed Form, Not Data

    Hello,
I have created a form in designer with a "submit by email" button. It works perfectly as it should. What I would like to do is have the completed from sent back to me instead of the XML. Is this possible? The users are filling out the form as many as 10 times a day. I receive them in the field (in my car) via my web enabled phone. The phone will not open the XML file properly but it will display PDF's with no problems.
    Thank you,
    Patrick

    James,
What do I do if I only have professional 7.0? Can you help?

Some additional info to add to what SekharN said:
    1) Add a button (not the email submit button, just the "button")
    2) Set the Control type to Submit
    3) On the submit tab, add "mailto:[email protected]" in the Submit to URL box
    4) Change the submit as drop down to PDF
    5) Save the form
    6) Open the form in professional 8.0 (not livecycle designer)
    7) Go to the Advanced option on the toolbar and select "Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader" which will require you to save the file again.
once you've done that you should have no problem with the emailing the completed form.

  • A way for end users to email completed forms?

I would like my end users to be able to complete the form and then send the whole, completed pdf form (not just the data) to another person. I believe my users will probably be using the latest version of Adobe Reader. Now, I realize that saving information typed into a pdf form is technically not supposed to happen, and I imagine one would have to save the completed form in order to email it, but I believe a few months back that I followed a thread on this forum that discussed just how to circumvent this issue and allow an end user to email a completed form in pdf format. Naturally, I cannot find the thread now that I need it.
Anyone out there know if and how I can make this whole emailing business happen?
    Thanks!

First don't use the default e-mail submit button from object library, that will send just the xml data. Instead you can use the default button and set its control type to Submit. After this put in the Submit to URL field some thing like this: mailto:[email protected]
When you finish the form you need also extend the form by doing what our coleague said above.
Now when you click the submit button it will send the entire form through e-mail.
    I hope this helps.

  • Submit button to return a completed form as a pdf attachment

    Win XP SP3
    LiveCycle ES 8.2
I’ve created a submit button to return a completed form as a pdf attachment (see http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_How_do_I_change_the__Email_Submit__button_so_it_wi-16533.h tml “Use a regular form button”) but the fields in the filled & submitted form that arrives in me inbox are editable e.g. I can alter or delete what’s been entered.
This form will be accessed through a link on the organisation’s website & will open in a browser, rather than in reader itself.
How can I set the form so that once it’s been submitted the fields become uneditable? This needs to be something that I do to the form before it’s uploaded to the site so as to make it as simple as possible for the people filling it in.
    TIA

You can put a Signature Field on the Form and set the Property to lock the form Fields after signing.
So once the form is signed and submitted it cannot be edited.

  • Creating Secured Forms and Saving Completed Forms

    Hi,
I have been tasked by my manager to create a checklist form which me and my colleagues must complete and save when carrying out servicing of various medical equipment. For this, I have been using Adobe Acrobat Professional 6, using the forms feature. I created the form with various form fields and secured the pdf file with a password, only allowing the form fields to be filled in. However, when the user opens the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader, they can fill in the form but cannot save it as another file, it only allows them to print it. Ideally, what I would like for the user to do is to open up the template form, allowing them to fill in the form fields without being able to edit the document and then save the completed form with the job number as the file name. Is there any way to have the document secured but also allow the 'save as' button to be used? I would be extremely grateful if you could help :-)
    Thanks,
    Michael

You can upgrade from AA6. Keep in mind it is a good idea to keep your AA6 CD around even after the install of AA9. If you have problems in the future and have to reinstall, you will need the AA6 CD or at least the information from it. You can check the Adobe store for information about the update.
It sounds like your application would be within the bounds of the EULA as I read it. If you have fewer than 500 folks who will be using the form, then by the EULA you are allowed to activate Reader Rights. As I read the EULA, they can do multiple submissions of the form and such, just as long as the number of users stays below 500. You may want to read the EULA before the upgrade to be sure you will be in compliance (the EULA can usually be found on the Adobe site).
Starting with AA8, Reader Rights was an added feature that could be used to allow users of the Reader to save the form with the data.

  • Editing a pdf form that I created. Adding header error msg "do not have sufficient permissions to perform this task"

Editing a pdf form that I created. Adding header, currently the header only appears on page 1 of a 3 page pdf form.  I want it to appear on each page.  I am receiving the error msg "do not have sufficient permissions to perform this task"

  • Error when editing a PDF form

I created a PDF form with text field boxes and saved it. I opened it and was able to type in the field boxes no problem.
When I try to edit that same form and then re-save it the field boxes are suddenly no longer highlighted or able to type text in them.
Do you have to re-create a form each time you want to edit it???

I was able to figure out why they werent showing up. I stupidly had the "read only" button on.
Next question, how can I set it up so that when the form is typed into and then saved that it cant be edited after that?
Example: someone enters text into a text field, then saves it under a new name, then emails it to a 2nd party and they can not edit the text in the field box.
    Thanks

I have Adobe Creative Cloud.  How do I edit a PDF form I created at work and e-mailed to my home tablet?

    Hi Val,
I see! Please see this thread: Is FormsCentral part of the Creative Cloud?
Creative Cloud doesn't include FormsCentral, which is why you're being prompted to upgrade. (An Acrobat Pro subscription, on the other hand, does include FormsCentral.)

If the PDF is a form fillable PDF, which I assume that it is, email it to yourself or send it to DropBox and open it on your computer. You should see the fields filled in there. It works for me if I do it that way.
Adobe Reader supports it, but the other apps don't. I assume that if you email the PDF to a computer user it would be readable in Adode Reader.

  • Submit button on Android doesn't submit completed form via e-mail

We've created a form in Adobe Acrobat Pro with a submit button using the "mailto:" command.  When we are in the android app and click the button, the e-mail script works fine, but it doesn't send the actual file, just a blank e-mail.  Any advice?  I've seen some older posts saying java scripts aren't supported, but they were older posts.  Has this been addressed or is there a workaround to submit the completed forms via e-mail (with an added service or expense)?

    When you write this
    > but it doesn't send the actual file, just a blank e-mail
do you mean that it sends an email with a blank form attached?
If this is the case, this is currently as-designed, since your button has two actions: one that submits the form and one that resets the form.  Because emailing on an Android device is asynchronous, by the time the email is constructed by the mail app of choice, the reset form action has already executed and as a result, you end up sending a blank form.
I will look into the Android mail APIs to find out if we can make the behavior synchronous, that is, the reset form action will not execute until AFTER the submit form action has fully completed.  In the meantime, you can work around this by separating the submit & reset button into two separate buttons: one that submits, and one that resets.  Users will tap the submit button to submit and then have to tap the reset button after submit completes to reset the form.
    Hope this helps,
    Darrell

  • With a PDF Dynamic form using show/hide actions, how to ensure that when the completed form is saved, closed and re-opened, the form still show the fields as before it was closed?

With a PDF Dynamic form using show/hide actions, how to ensure that when the completed form is saved, closed and re-opened, the form still show the fields as before it was closed?
I have developed a form with fields hidden by default, that become visible based on box ticked or radio button selections.
My problem is that, when I close the form and re-open it, it comes back to it's default presentation, regardless of the information already recorded in the form (including in the now hidden fields.
    How to correct that
Thanks in advance for any hint you can provide.

I've had the same problem. This solved it...
Go to the "Form properties..." in the File-menu. Select "Run-time" to the left and in the box "Scripting" Preserve scripting changes to form when saved: choose Automatically (Script-based state changes are saved locally in an insecure fashion. This option cannot be used for certified forms).
Hope it works for you to...

  • What is tthe Best practice for Variant List, Add, Edit and Display Forms?

    Requirement:
I have single list.  The list has a large number of columns and a large number of items (lets say 20,000).
I want to show users a different view of the list based on clicking on a different left-hand navigation option.
Lets say I have four types of users:  Sales, Manufacturing, Shipping and Finance. I would like to have four options in the left-hand navigation.
All of them would be pointing at the same list, BUT, I want each of them to have a customer list form.  The only difference between the custom list forms would be:
Each would have its own set of views, and hence its own default view.
Each would have its own New, Edit and Display Forms.  The only difference between the forms in one variant list and another would be: The order of the columns and which columns are modifiable.
I would like to achieve this in SharePoint Designer in such a way that the "users" could still add/modify views and could even modify the forms from the SharePoint Menu.  BTW, I don't want to use InfoPath for obvious reasons.
What is the best approach to meeting this requirement?  I have at least 20 sites and 70 lists overall that need variant forms made.
    HELP!!
    Savin
BTW We are using SharePoint 2013 and I selected the wrong forum *sigh*.  But I think its probably the same answer.
    Cheers, Savin Smith

    Hi,
I understand that you want to have different forms based on different view.
Per my knowledge, there are no out of box method to achieve it.
As a workaround, you can add the JavaScript code to the different view page.
For example, to open different new form based on different view, you can get the windows.location, and then judge the view, then change the onclick event of the "New item" button.
For more information, you can refer to:
