Editing an uploaded excel document

I'm just starting to research this program and need to share an excel file with multiple authors. Is there a way to upload the excel file and be able to edit it? Or is using the Acrobat Table the only way to share a spreadsheet?

Not exactly. But I have a service (from automator) which is in my finder contextual menus which puts the selected file into an email message. Makes it very easy to email. With this you could just edit the attachment, select the service, and you're all set.

  • Uploading Excel Documents

    Hello! :)
    I'm working on a dashboard that requires me to "upload" or "attach" an excel document that users may choose to open or save. I've tried using a link and so far it worked well with .doc, .txt, and .pdf documents. When the link is clicked, the download dialog box opens and the document can be viewed without problem. Unfortunately, this did not work with an excel document.
    Does BIEE have a restriction to excel documents? Is there a specific way for me to do this? This may just be a simple problem. Hope someone could help.
    Thank you! :)

    Hello Kum,
    One approach is that immediately after uploading the initial file, put the loop at 'data_tab' and pass the last field which contains the file path and name and type of the file.
    For this purpose you've to use:
    1.) Variables for passing the vaule to FM (file name and type)
    2.) You need to use the string handing in order to get the type of file format from the file path from the 'data_tab' from 1st call
    Once you get the field containint the filename and path using string handling you can 1st measure the lenght of the full string using 'strlen' command and then check the string and check for the '.' and last 3 characters which is the format in general
    example:
    filename = 'C:\UPLOAD\UPLOAD1.TXT'.
    STRING = STRLEN( filename ).
    CAL2 = STRING - 4.
    TYPE1 = FILENAME+CAL2(STRING).
    IF FILENAME+CAL2(1) EQ '.'.
    CAL2 = CAL2 + 1.
    TYPE3 = FILENAME+CAL2(STRING).
    ENDIF.
    Pass the Filename and TYPE2 as filepath and type.
    One thing to remember there might be a performance problem since you said there are thousands of file for upload during one session.

    I have a excel sheet saved in Cryster enterprise. I was hoping a user could access this xls file from Infoview and edit the file from there. Is this possible?

    Hi jcol12.
    Have you solved your problem?
    In the folder where the xls document is stored, make sure the user or the user group the user is in has the proper access to edit the xls file/object.Then it should be possible for you to complete your request.

  • App for editing/reading/writing Excel, Word, Windows notepad text documents

    I was wondering if any of you's could recommend some apps (from experience) that would allow me to, edit/read/write Excel, Word, Windows notepad text documents.
    I could make do with an app that would do the above but without the ability to create, edit Windows notepad text documents. But been able to read, write, edit Word and Excel documents would have to be a must.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks everyone for the help it was much appreciated.
    After debating, I decided on Docs To Go at £9.99. For this amount its a universal app and as such I can have it installed on my iPhone as well as my iPad (which is what I have done), so £5 for to have it on each device is good value I feel. Quick Office on the other hand would have cost £8.99 for the iPad version and £5.99 for the iPhone version a total of almost £15, which is quite a bit more than I paid for Docs To Go.
    Upto now, I find Docs To Go does everything I want from it, with regards to editing, reading, writing my Excel files. I tried transferring a Microsoft Windows Notepad text document over to the iPad/iPhone, I was able to read this and also add additional text/words to it and save it too. I do use text documents sometimes because if I want to add them onto a friend's computer for example, I know that they will be able to read them because with them having a Windows PC and also my friend does not have the Microsoft Office program on their PC.
    The transferring of files from the computer to the iPhone/iPad is done via a free download of the Docs To Go desktop software program (which is both PC and Mac) compatible). You first need to go into the Docs To Go app and select 'ADD DESKTOP'. This then allows you to add a device to the Docs To Go desktop program thus enabling transfer. You are shown a pin number on the screen which you enter into the Docs To Go app, this procedure only needs to be done once.
    The Docs To Go desktop program creates a folder during installation, where all the files etc are stored that are transferred/going to be transferred over are kept.
    Some people might think needing to use a program to transfer files over is a bit of a nuisance, when other similar programs allow transfer via a web browser. Personally I find that those programs, the transfer is a bit cumbersome and can be a bit slow. I find the transfer via the Docs To Go desktop program is a lot easier and faster than using the web browser. The only downside I can see with needing to use the Docs To Go desktop program is that.. If I am at a friend's house and want to transfer something on to my iPhone/iPad. My friend would need to install the program, but saying that, its a very small program and its not a big deal having to install it. If they didn't want to install it, then there is either emailing the file or transferring the file to my Dropbox account. I forgot to mention that Docs To Go supports cloud/online storage such as Dropbox, GoogleDocs as well as others.
    Once the above is done, you switch the wifi on, load the Docs To Go app, load the Docs To Go desktop program. You then just drag and drop the folders etc that you are wanting transferred over into the The Docs To Go desktop program, then you click on the circular arrow button and they are then transferred over onto the iPhone/iPad.
    Once on the iPhone/iPad, you can view them, add additional information, when you make any changes you can press the circular arrow symbol (bottom left of the Docs To Go app) on the Docs To Go app and the changes are then synced back to the same file that is stored on the computer, so its very easy to keep everything in sync and up to date.
    It is possible whilst using a Microsoft Word document to have a word count, you just touch the symbol at the bottom right of the Docs To Go app and choose Word Count from the drop down menu. I have heard a few people in some reviews saying that 'Docs To Go doesn't have a word count', when indeed it does.
    One surprise is that Docs To Go, does not have a spell checker, but hopefully during later updates, the feature might be added. I sent my feedback to Docs To Go requesting this feature on future releases. I expect that there will be many other people who have requested this feature too.
    I just thought I would share my experience with using Docs To Go.
    Thanks again everyone for the help, it was much appreciated

  • Excel service and OWA - getting ERROR while trying to open/edit Excel documents

    Hi All,
    We have configured SharePoint 2013 with Excel Service and OWA (Office Web Apps).
    After configuring, we are able to view/edit Word or PowerPoint documents from the browser (as OWA is configured). But we are getting errors while trying to open/edit Excel documents.
    We are not able to view/edit the excel workbook from the browser (through OWA).
    To open the excel in the browser, decision has to be taken at the farm level on what to be used – Excel Service or OWA Server? Is it possible to do setting at site collection level?

  • Editing and uploading a downloaded document

    Have an application that allows for both uploads of documents (using a File Browse item and transferring the relevant fields from the HTMLDB_APPLICATIION_FILES view to my customized table) and downloads of documents (using a call via a URL to a customized copy of the Oracle download procedure presented in the sample application). Both the upload and download process work OK.
    The issue I'm running into, is that when a user wants to download a document, the user is presented with the choice of opening or saving the downloaded document. That works OK, but what we'd really like to do is offer the user a chance to edit the downloaded document and then by saving the changes (such as by closing the window in which the downloaded document appears, after making edits), the modified document is "re-uploaded" to the database. What we have to do now is save the download document to the user's PC, then the user has to open the document and modify it, save it, and re-upload it to the database.
    Any ideas on how we can save the users a few steps and upload the document directly after editing? Thanks.

    Well, you can only do that when the content being edited is plain text (mime type text/plain) and less than 32K (hard limit in PL/SQL)
    Looking at how that page (4000:46) is built in f4000.sql, there seem to be some APIs that do some magic
    l_text := wwv_flow_utilities.clob_to_varchar2(
      wwv_flow_utilities.blob_to_clob(p_blob=>l_blob,p_charset=>l_charset));Clearly, all these are undocumented internal-only Oracle APIs that Oracle is not obliged to support.
    Search around on asktom.oracle.com, I am sure you will find code examples that do this sort of thing.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I open an excel document in an email and use numbers to edit it

    I receive emails with excel documents in them.  Am I able to open the document and use the numbers app on my iPad 2 to edit this document?

    AFAIK - and I do use Pages on the iPad, you have to use the file sharing feature to transfer the file to iTunes on the computer. That is how I have always made to transfer. Obviously you have to have the iPad connected to the computer And set up for a sync, but I don't think the files will transfer unless to use file sharing. I may be reading the whole thing incorrectly because the article does state ...
    Using iTunes 9.1 or later, you can copy files between your computer and apps on your iOS device that support File Sharing (for example, Pages for iPad supports File Sharing, so you can create a document in Pages on your iPad, then copy it to your Mac so you can open it in Pages for Mac OS X). This article explains how to copy files between your computer and your iOS device using File Sharing.
    This may mean if you want to edit the files on the computer you must use file sharing via the sync process. However, I'm not so sure that syncing, in and of itself will actually transfer the files. The key here is if you want to have access in iTunes you use file sharing. Email, cloud services work as well as you know.
    I don't want to mess the OP up either, but this method is supposed to be the sure fire way to transfer the files. I will try when I get home just using a sync. Actually, once you try the file sharing method, it really is very easy to do.

  • Editing Office 365 Excel Doc in Excel Office 2013

    I have an excel document with macros uploading on Office 365. I understand that I can't use the macros in excel online so I want to edit in excel. When I click 'Edit in Excel' the program opens but the actual document doesn't. I am able to download a copy
    though. How do I get the document to open?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Does this only occur to this specific Excel file? or all Excel files?
    Let's first test with a simple Excel file without macros, or disable the macros in that specific file, upload it to Cloud, then try again. This will help to narrow down whether the issue is with the macros.
    Please feel free to post back with any findings.
