Editing Assistants and Templates

I am using a G4Powerbook with OS X 10.4.9. How on earth do I edit the assistants and templates in "starting points"? Most of these are ugly and just clutter the thing. (I have created a few templates, and they are hard to find because of all the other icons.) Also, how can I get rid of all the icons filling up the "recent items" tab of starting points? I've tried moving them to trash, but usually the message is "can't be moved because item has been deleted." !!
I can't seem to find the appropriate utility, and Pogue's section on "permissions" in his book seems to be all about iChat, which I don't use.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, SwissMaggie

The templates live in Applications>Appleworks (folder)>Starting Points>Templates and you could either trash them or move them to somewhere else.
You can automatically clear out the recent items and also the auto-save items: open AppleScript Editor and paste this into it:
tell application "Finder"
activate
select (every item of folder "Recent Items" of folder "Starting Points" of folder "AppleWorks User Data" of folder "Documents" of folder "username" of folder "Users" of startup disk)
move selection to the trash
select (every item of folder "AutoSave" of folder "AppleWorks User Data" of folder "Documents" of folder "username" of folder "Users" of startup disk)
move selection to the trash
close windows
end tell
obviously replacing 'username'. Save as an application somewhere, and then add it to your startup items in Preferences>Accounts so that it will run on each startup.
Or if you want to remove them manually, the script shows you where they live.

  • Lost Assistants and Templates

    i apparently trashed my assistant and templates folders and can't find my original appleworks disk. any ideas how i can restore appleworks to normal?
    thanks

    The only way that you'll be able to restore your Apple Works files is to reinstall them. You don't mention which computer you have - it may be that Apple Works is available on the bundled disks (or that it's on a bundled disk for one of your older computers). Let me know what computer(s) you have and I may be able to point you to the right disk. Failing that, you may need to turn to eBay.

  • How to delete editable regions and template?

    Hi everybody,
    I posted this question earlier in the web discussions area, being unaware of a forum specific to Dreamweaver. Sorry for posting in two different places.
    For the past week, I have been  learning Dreamweaver CS4 from an online tutorial. I got to the place  where I generated a template (index.dwt) from the main page (index.html)  and created some editable regions on it. At that point, I realized   that I had done all the steps by rote and did not actually absorb what I  was doing. I wanted to delete the template in order to repeat the steps and gain a better understanding of the process. When I tried to delete the  editable regions (modify-templates-remove editable regions), I was  unable to do so because "remove editable regions" was greyed out. Nor  was I able to delete the html code. I tried to  delete the template itself, but when I did that, the index.html page  retained those editable regions! Can anyone tell me if there is a way to  get back to the place I was in before creating the template?
    Thank you  for any assistance.

    All you need to do is detach the index.html file from the template.  Then you can delete the template and start all over.
    Go to the Modify menu --> Templates --> Detach from Template

  • Editable Regions and Templates -- Problem in IE

    Hello,
    I have a template that I use throughout my site. The template
    includes
    the Spry Menu Bar and three editable regions. The pages all
    look great
    in Firefox. But in IE6 and IE7, there is a problem--white
    space
    vanishes and the text is too close to the objects above it.
    Specifically, The <h3>Page
    Title</h3>appears to close underneath
    <td><!-- TemplateBeginEditable
    name="EditRegion1" -->. It's fine in
    Firefox, however.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    =====================
    Here's the code.
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    body {
    background-color: #878737;
    -->
    </style>
    </head>
    <body text="#333333"
    vlink="#333333" alink="#333333"
    leftmargin="0"
    topmargin="0"
    marginwidth="0"
    marginheight="0">
    <TABLE width="800" border=0
    align="center" cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0
    bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
    <TBODY>
    <tr>
    <td
    width="2%"> </td>
    <td width="96%"><img
    src="../SpryAssets/mainnav_logo.jpg"
    /></td>
    <td
    width="2%"> </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td> </td>
    <td><!-- TemplateBeginEditable
    name="EditRegion1" -->
    <h3>Page Title</h3>
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable
    --></td>

    TEST BED:
    I shrinked my test site to just 1 photo page with only 3 pictures and I I published it to a folder:
    Safari 3.1.1 has no problems
    Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.2 has no problems
    Opera 9.5 has no problems
    IE 7.0.5730.13 cannot render any picture !!!!
    DEEP DIVE:
    IE fails and if "notifications" are turned on complains about run time error "Error: Access Denied" on line 504 of a script. I went deeper and using the Microsoft Just in Time Debugging features apparently the offending javascript is "iWeb - iWebSite.js" with an ajaxRequest called "req.open('GET',url,true)"
    iWEB on LEOPARD is no better
    I booted with an external disk using Leopard and I used iWeb just 1 photos page
    no way IE still complains (so far I am using Mac Tiger level)
    HOW CAN YOU HELP
    To those of you who succeeded with iWeb+IE (and have time to lend) I can send the zipped 2MB actual iWeb "package" named "Domain.site2" used by my iWeb to save the site under editing before any publishing.
    you temporarily rename your "Domain.site2" + substitute it with my "Domain.site2" + start iWeb and see if you can publish/see it correctly.
    Please send me a private mail if you think you can help.
    Seriously thinking of dumping iWeb...

  • Can Contribute edit a DW template and allow it to propagate?

    I've created a fairly straightforward html/css site in DW CS3
    based around a template and have uploaded both the site and
    template to the client's web server.
    There's a little set of static text on the template which
    cross-populates all the html pages. If I edit the template in DW,
    it updates all the pages that are based on that template. I'm
    hoping that if I set up the client with Contribute, they can access
    the template, edit it, and see the changes propagate to all the
    html pages that are based on that particular template.
    Is this possible? If not, is there a breathtakingly simple
    approach I might be able to give the client to use?
    Many thanks.

    Users of Contribute cannot update templates.
    The 'breathtakingly simple approach' could be to use an SSI
    (server side include) in your template.
    Example php: <?php include("inc.included-file.php"); ?>
    You provide your user with an url to the include file, so he
    can edit the file in Contribute.
    NB: works also great with menu's (make an include file with
    just an unordered list, style it with css, and provide your user
    with the url to the menu).

  • When i set page as template, set editable regions and try to view in browser IE 9 a download box com

    When I set page as template, set editable regions and try to view in browser IE 9 a download box comes up and when i click open it just opens the file again in DW.

    Use the Template to spawn a child page.  File > New > Page from Template...
    Save the child page as some_file.html and then preview that in your browsers.

    I have a custom template.  When I edit it and try to save it asks me to name it and then I end up with an additional custom template.  How do I edit the template and save the changes without creating another template?

    Hi Atrec,
    If you don't need your old custom template, save your changes with the same template name. It will tell you that this template exists and will ask you Replace? Say yes (if you do want to replace the old with the new!)
    To delete unwanted templates, go to Finder > Menu > Go and press the option key. Your Library will show in the Go Menu. Navigate to Library > Application Support > iWork > Numbers > Templates > My Templates.
    Delete any unwanted template by dragging it to the Trash or click on it then command-delete.
    Having gone to all that trouble to find My Templates folder, right click (or control click) on it and Make Alias. Drag the Alias to any convenient place for a quick way to get back to that folder.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Incontext editing and templates

    Hi
    I´ve been trying to find documentation about the
    interaction between ICE and regular Dreamweaver templates without
    any success. Is it still possible to edit master templates locally
    and change e.g. a menu for a complete site even if some pages has
    been edited via the ICE interface online?

    Hello Simon,
    InContext Editing regions can only be applied (on child
    pages) on regions that have been marked as editable in the template
    – the .dwt page. On the other hand, only the modifications
    that are made in Dreamweaver outside the template regions (in the
    master .dwt file) are propagated to all child pages. Thus, when a
    change is propagated, it won’t interact in any way with the
    sections of the page that were modified by InContext Editing.
    So, if the menu you want to change is not in an editable
    region (in the template .dwt page), everything should work just
    fine. The change will propagate to all pages based on that
    template, and modifications made via InContext Editing will remain
    intact.
    Also, as a general rule of thumb, before modifying the master
    template, you should make sure to download/"get" the most recent
    version of the site from the server. Additionally, if your client
    is updating the site via InContext Editing while you are making
    changes locally in Dreamweaver, you will overwrite any changes your
    client made when you upload the site again.
    Please let me know if this answers your question, or if you
    need clarification.
    We intend to provide a tutorial on working with Dreamweaver
    templates in the near future. I will post an announcement in the
    forums when this is available.
    Best regards,
    Corey

  • I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant and my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.

    I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Sig.
    The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
    In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
    If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
    (I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

  • How do I leave editable text and images in a PDF?

    I recently bought a flyer template and it came as an editable PDF.  Here is one of the templates http://www.wendygarratt.com/images/flyer.pdf
    Every field, both text and graphic object, is fully editable in the free Adobe reader.  I have Acrobat X and have tried all the methods of producing something like this but nothing has worked.  I wish to produce not just one page template PDFs that can be edited like the one above, but I also have a 20+ page magazine, which currently is distributed in PDF form and I wanted certain image and text fields within the magazine to be customisable too.
    I design the magazine using InDesign and the exported pages are composed of 1 large background image with text fields laid over the top.  I have tried exporting it as an interactive PDF, ticking the layers option for Acrobat, but when I try to create an editable form (Tools>Forms>Create>Open file) it does not recognise any of the text fields at all.
    Can someone please help me before I slam my head repeatedly in a door?  I have been searching for a solution for so long and I'm getting rather frustrated.
    Thank you in advance
    Wendy-G

    Thanks for the replies I've had so far, but I really need some detailed help to sort this.
    I want to be able to create a PDF that has editable text and editable graphics over a background image, that can be edited in the free Adobe Reader, as per this item - http://www.wendygarratt.com/images/flyer.pdf
    I know this was designed in LiveCycle and I have LiveCycle and Adobe Acrobat Pro X, but LiveCycle is new to me.  I am a quick learner (I use Photoshop, InDesign, etc) and need help in getting started.
    I am willing to work with someone to help get this sorted but it is urgent that I get to grips with this.
    Thanks so much for helping

  • Using Office 2013 group policy template to define Trusted Locations and Template Locations doesn't work

    User Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates
    - Using Office 2013 group policy template to define Trusted Locations and Template Locations doesn't work
    Microsoft Word 2013/Word Options/Security/Trust Center/Trusted Locations
    - Allow Trusted Locations on the network:
    Enabled
    - Trusted Location #1:
    Enabled
    Path:  //server/sharedfoldername   [Edit:  Path:
    \\server\sharedfoldername]
    Date: June 10, 2013
    Description: Trusted Location
    Allow sub folders: Enabled
    The policy appears to apply to the client correctly by adding the following registry key and values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\15.0\word\security\trusted locations\location1
    allowsubfolders: 1
    date: June 10, 2013
    Description: Trusted Location
    Path:  //server/sharedfoldername  [Edit: Path:
    \\server\sharedfoldername]
    However, when you open Word Options/Trust Centre/Trust Centre Settings…/Trusted Locations
    There are no trusted locations listed under ‘Policy Locations’
    I have tried setting similar settings for setting the Shared Templates folder location and just like the trusted locations policy, the registry keys are created properly in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies however word doesn’t
    seem to recognize these either.
    This used to work flawlessly using the administrative templates for Word 2007 and 2010. Has anyone been able to get these policies to apply successfully, or know why office doesn’t recognize these settings from the Policies registry
    Key?

    This would have been an easy solution to the issue.  Unfortunately it isn't the problem.  This question was originally posted on another Microsoft site and
    was transferred here and when it was transferred the path's changed from the original post:
    \\server\sharedfodlername to //server/sharedfoldername.  (I will edit the question to show up as it did in the original post) Not sure how that happened.  This
    is still an issue that I haven't been able to get working correctly.
    As it turns out the 'New from Template' interface Word 2013 has developed is very bulky with large thumbnails and is not very customizable nor practical for an office
    that has a large number of templates.   Because I am unsatisfied with the display and performance of the 'New' template chooser I sought after a solution to change the way word creates a document from a template in another thread:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-word/how-can-you-change-the-display-of-templates-in/d49194b9-a6b4-4768-8502-7d7b50e9dd65 working through this issue with Jay we were able to develop
    some VB script with handles a very large number of templates in a list view and it works much faster than the built-in Word interface.  The above thread is how I've worked around trying to define a shared template location and I am quite happy with it.

    My assistant and I are using two Lightrooms (i.e. two serial numbers) and need to share between our two computers. I provide originals to her onto a flash drive. She tags them and returns them to me. I then copy the photos from her flash drive onto my computer and load them in my LR. The photos appear but witthout any editing or tagging. We need to be able to have her working on the photos on her computer with her copy of LR and me on my computer with my version of LR being able to access what is already tagged and given back to me. This seems hard. We need advice on if it is at all possible to have two computers simultaneously working on LR . I bought her her own version because I was told at the time of purchasing that that was the only way to share. Please advise urgently! Thanks.

    Sounds like your assistant isn't instructing Lightroom to write the tagging and editing to the files themselves, so wehn the files return to you, they don't have editing and tagging information. She need to select the photos in Lightroom and then Ctrl-S (Cmd-S on Mac). Or alternatively turn on the option to autmoatically write this information to the files.
    If you are using RAW photos, then this information will be written to a sidecar XMP file, and your assistant must provide you with the sidecar file. If these photos are not RAW photos, then the information is written directly into the photo file itself.
    Lightroom wasn't designed to be a multi-user program, and so it is truly not possible to have two people working on the same catalog at once. The way you are doing things, as modified above, is probably the way to go.
    As an alternative, you can transfer (portions of) catalogs as well as photos back and forth and then all of these issues disappear, but a catalog might be rather large for a flash drive (or maybe not, it depends)

  • How to properly read data from one DAQ-assistant and write simultaneously with another DAQ-assistant (which is inside a loop)

    Hello.
    I'm a newbie working on my Master's thesis conserning a project that is based on old G-code made by another newbie so bear with me.
    I need to create a sequance of output controls. For this I'm using a for loop that eventually creates two triangular ramps during a period of 90 seconds. I've confirmed that this function works properly by measuring the actual output of the DAQ-decice (NI USB 6353).
    The problem is the following: During this controll-cycle I need to simultanously collect data from the same DAQ-device. At this point there is only one DAQ-assistant output-block in the main loop of the program and all the signals are derived from it to where they are needed.There is a case-structure (the bottom case structure in the picture) that contains the functions needed to collect the data during the test cycle. However these two actions, outputting data and inputting data, are not synchronized in any way which may be the reason why I get the 200279 error or alternatively the 200284 error during the test cycle. I've tried changing the sample rate, buffer size and the timeout time as adviced but nothing seems to help.
    What would be the simplest way to solve this problem?
    Help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for quick reply.
    However, I did try it (see the picture) but I still have a problem: I only get 100 samples / channel during the test sequence (all from the first seconds of the sequence) in total even though I've set the data aqcuiring DAQ-assistant as "continous" and "samples to read = 95k" and rate is 1000Hz.
    Edit.
    And lastly, I have trouble adding this "extra" DAQ-assistant to the vi. because I get an error about a resource (The 6353) being reserved, even though I connected a false constant to the "STOP" -input of the main DAQ-assistant.
