Editing BDC List Items

Hi,
I have a Business Data Connectivity List Item web part that pulls information from a database but the format it displays is boring. The font is small and doesn't match the overall site. I would like to at least increase the font size. I know this is possible
with XSL editing and CSR but I'm new to this and don't know much about these.
Using the XSL Editor builtin to the web part, I think I've narrowed it down to the section of code that displays this information with $DataTableSummary being the variable from the database based to this web part. I've tried adding this line <xsl:attribute name="size">14px</xsl:attribute>
after the second line but it throws an unable to display this Web Part error.
Does anyone know an easy way to edit this code to add some basic formatting to this type of web part? Thanks in advance!
<table border="0" width="100%">
<xsl:attribute name="summary"><xsl:value-of select="$DataTableSummary" /></xsl:attribute>
<xsl:call-template name="dvt_1.body"><xsl:with-param name="Rows" select="$Rows" />
<xsl:with-param name="FirstRow" select="$dvt_firstrow" />
<xsl:with-param name="LastRow" select="$LastRow" />
</xsl:call-template>
</table>

You should be able to do all of these with a long press on the item you want to edit/delete.

  • Allow All Users To Add List Items But Only Certain users To Edit Them (SharePoint 2013)

    How do we allow all users to add items to a list, but only allow certain users to edit the list items? Site is SharePoint 2013. We have tried creating custom permissions. That does not seem to work.

    I've setup a custom list on my SharePoint Foundation using a custom permission level to accomplish this.  I setup a custom permission level on the site called 'Add Only to Lists'  which allows adding an item to the list and setup the group with
    the default read and the custom permission level and it works.  The users in the group get the add item but do not get edit item, not even items they created themselves.
    Any users who should have full edit permissions can be setup under the normal edit/contribute/design permission level and work normal.
    Below is the Role Definition pulled via PowerShell and Role Assignments on the list in question.  As well as a picture showing what it looks like to something assigned that role level.
    Role Definition
    Name : Add Only to list
    Description : Can add items to a list but cannot edit or delete
    Type : None
    Hidden : False
    Order : 2147483647
    BasePermissions : ViewListItems, AddListItems, Open, ViewPages
    List Role Assignments
    Member : Home Visitors
    RoleDefinitionBindings : {Read, Add Only to list}
    Parent : IT Equipment Request

    The user can create a new item, but cannot edit items - not even items he created.

  • List Item event receiver not working: SharePoint 2010

    Hi,
    I have ceated one custom list and also created a Event reciever solution using Visual Studio 2010.
    In the event reciever I added ItemAdded, ItemUpdated events and did some my business related coding.
    It was worked very well when I add/edit the list item.
    But, now suddenly it stopped working!, I i really don't know what went wrong suddenly.
    Only thing I did is, created one more solution event reciver and added some more columns to the list.
    I then reverted all these changes and deleted the new event reciever from the site solution.
    I am able to build and deploy the solution in VS 2010, and I could see the solution in site solution but events are not firing when I created/edited the list items
    Any idea what went wrong and how can I get it back to work.
    It has spoiled my all the work and I am unable to proceed.
    Please let me know if anyone have any inputs.
    I also tried following things: restart visual studio and deploy again, restart IIS, restart system itself, actvate-deactivate solution manually in site, GAC the dll manually.
    But nothing has worked for me.
    One more thing, I am using this solution as Sandbox solution and when I tried to make Sandbox as false and then deploy it gave me error like:
    "Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object."
    Is this something related to my above problem?
    Thanks, Sharath

    Check Event receivers using powershell:-
    Add-PsSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    $spWeb = Get-SPWeb -Identity "sitename"
    $spList = $spWeb.Lists["yourlistname"]
    $spList.EventReceivers | Select assembly,name
    Replace "sitename" with your site url and "yourlistname" with list name.
    Once you confirm  the event receivers, use below to delete them
    Add-PsSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    $spWeb = Get-SPWeb -Identity "your site url"
    $spList = $spWeb.Lists["TrackTravel"]
    $evts = $spList.EventReceivers | where {$_.Assembly -eq ""your assembly"}
    $evts
    if ($evts.Count -gt 0) {
                foreach ($evt in $evts) {
                    Write-Host("Deleting..." + $spList.RootFolder.ServerRelativeUrl + ", " + $evt.Type)
                    $evt.Delete()
    Once you run this, you can now redeploy your solution.

  • Webpart button that assigns user to list item

    I need a button event that when clicked assigns the user to the list item that is selected from a checkbox. All from a webpart. Unfortunately for me corporate will not let us use Visual Studio (security access to critical info and what not).
    I have access to InfoPath and SharePoint designer content editor and such. I tried circumventing it all together and built a button in the form that only shows when in edit mode from the webpart. The button simply assigns user to the people picker, which shows
    in InfoPath preview. But when I try to do the same in the live edit able list item the people picker just blinks and nothing fills the text field. I even tried using a simple text box which worked but only for userid()  not display name. Anybody know
    why people picker field appears blank in the live version? Or can someone point me to where I can build an outright webpart button that fills my assignto field? I don't quite understand how to do it. What I have seen has been done with visual studio. Any help
    would be great.

    Hi Jack,
    First of all, you can not create a coded web part using SPD.
    What you can do is create custom page (aspx) and do inline coading. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/211d3c10-ab83-473f-95b4-83b0174f9dd7/how-to-add-custom-web-part-to-sharepoint-page-by-using-sharepoint-designer?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious)
    Custom page allows you to add c# code with enable page compiling with
    <PageParserPaths>
    <PageParserPath VirtualPath="/PageLibrary/MyCustomPage.aspx" CompilationMode="Always" AllowServerSideScript="true" />
    </PageParserPaths>
    OR
    Write all into Content editor web part on that page.(http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/f6d8c243-71af-4a98-bdb6-750d4dd9dc27/check-box-and-button-in-content-editor-web-part?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious)
    Here you can use Javascript only and not "c#" due to security issue.(http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/74b676f0-3509-4b11-8725-b9f2626371e9/content-editor-web-part-and-c?forum=sharepointdevelopmentlegacy)

  • Error with Provider Hosted App on Edit Form of a list item

    We have an error on the Edit Form of one of our pages.
    We have developed a SharePoint Online Provider Hosted app which replaces the standard edit form of a list item and has some further events behind the save button. Since this is rather new territory for us, we're using a roundabout way of achieving this by
    using a script editor web part to display an iFrame of our app. That way we can pass the Url through to our app and retrieve query strings from them.
    Our issue comes quite intermittently in that we sometimes get a "web page cannot be found" error or sometimes a "resource cannot be found" error, however, when we load another app on the site (from the same app project, but using an app
    part), then go back to the Edit Form, the information in the iFrame suddenly renders.
    Any ideas on what might be causing this issue at all? Ideally, we should be rendering the app to the Edit Form is the proper manner, rather than scripting an iFrame that points to out app in Azure. Would this be the cause of the problem?
    Thanks
    Tom

    Hi thumper, if you have access to InfoPath, you can add the form to a page using the InfoPath web part. Otherwise, use SP Designer with instructions below:

  • How to restrict user rights so they can add list items but cannot edit them once saved?

    I appreciate if you can help me with this. My beloved company uses SP2010, and I got the task to solve this issue using it, though I am not a programmer (basic html is still ok).
    I need a simple annual leave list with the following capabilities:
    1. Group of users (~100 members) should be able to create list items in a list that contains annual leave data. Columns are: Name, Leave start date, Leave end date, Team leader, etc.
    2. Once they fill in the new item form, a workflow notifies the team leader to visit the item and set a column "approval status" to approved or rejected.
    3. Based on this column value, another workflow notifies the requestor about the decision.
    4. After approval, users should be able to see their items in the list, but they should not be able to edit it.
    Sounds so simple, but I have big issues with point 4. as Sharepoint does not differentiate create and edit rights to a list item. As a result, requestor can edit dates of the approved items.
    Any hints how to solve this? Can impersonation help with this? Or should I add a new permission level to the site?

    Hello
    We are going to do the following things to accomplish your task
    create a new security permission level that will allow submit only
    create your annual leave list
    assign everyone the submit only permission
    add a workflow to send the email and modify the item permissions
    Ok first things first, on the sharepoint server open a powershell window and type the following powershell:
    $spweb=Get-SPWeb -Identity "<site url>";
    $spRoleDefinition = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPRoleDefinition;
    $spRoleDefinition.Name = "Submit only";
    $spRoleDefinition.Description = "Can submit/add forms/files/items into library or list but cannot view/edit them.";
    $spRoleDefinition.BasePermissions = "AddListItems, ViewPages, ViewFormPages, Open";
    $spweb.RoleDefinitions.Add($spRoleDefinition);
    $spweb.Dispose();
    Now in your site you will have a new permission level called 'Submit Only'.
    Create your annual leave list and give all users read and submit only permissions.
    Now create a workflow against this list in sharepoint designer.
    Add a new step which should be an impersonization step
    1st action
    add permission: give the user and their manager (i am presuming you are capturing this information in your list so it will be recorded against the item) whatever control you wish, i.e. full control, contribute, etc.
    2nd action
    remove list permission: remove the group you initially gave read and submit only permission to and select the read and submit only permissions to remove from them, i.e. if you added the 'All Users' group, then when performing this action choose to remove
    the read and submit only permissions for the users 'All Users'.
    3rd Action
    Send an Email: Email Manager with notification.

  • List data validation failed when creating a new list item but does not fail when editing an existing item

    Dear SharePoint Experts,
    Please help.
    Why does my simple formula work in Excel but not-work in SharePoint?
    Why does this formula...
    =IF([Request Type]="Review",(IF(ISBLANK([Request Date]),FALSE,TRUE)),TRUE)
    ...work in Excel but fail when I try to use it in SharePoint?
    The intent of this formula is the following...
    If the field "Request Type" has the value "Review" and the field "Request Data" is blank then show FALSE, otherwise show TRUE.
    SharePoint saves the formula, but when a list item is saved where the formula is implemented, (under List Settings, List Validation), SharePoint does not, say anything other than that the formula failed.
    Note that the "list data validation failed" error only happens when I am creating a new item-- the formula above works just fine when one is trying to Save on the edit form.
    Can you help?
    Thanks.
    -- Mark Kamoski

    Dear Jason,
    I appreciate your efforts.
    However, it seems to me that this statement of yours is not correct...
    "If it meet the validation formula, then you can new or edit the item, otherwise, it will throw the 'list data validation failed' error, it is by design".
    I believe this is NOT the answer for the following reasons.
    When I create a new item and click Save, the validation error is "list data validation failed".
    When I edit an existing item and click Save, the validation error is "my custom error message" and this is, I believe, the way it needs to work each time.
    I think, at the core, the error my formula does not handle some condition of null or blank or other default value.
    I tried a forumla that casts the date back to a string, and then checked the string for a default value, but that did not work.
    I tried looking up the Correlation ID in the ULS when "list data validation failed" occurs, but that gave no useful information because, even though logging was set to Verbose, the stack trace in the error log was truncated and did not given any
    good details.
    However, it seems to me that SharePoint 2013 is not well-suited for complex validation rules, because...
    SharePoint 2013 list-level validation (NOT column-level validation) allows only 1 input for all the multi-field validation formulas in a given list-- so, if I had more than 1 multi-field validation rule to implement on a given list, it would need to be packed
    into that single-line-of-code forumla style, like Excel does. That is not practice to write, debug, or maintain.
    SharePoint 2013 list-level validation only allows 1 block of text for all such multi-field validation rules. So that will not work because I would have something like "Validation failed for one or more of the following reasons-- withdrawal cannot exceed
    available balance, date-of-birth cannot be after date-of-death,... etc". That will not work for me.
    The real and awesome solution would simply be enhancing SP 2013 so that column-level validation forumlas are able to reference other columns.
    But, for now, my workaround solution is to use JavaScript and jQuery, hook the onclick handler on the Save button, and that works good. The only problem, is that the jQuery validation rules run before any of the column-level rules created  with OOTB
    SP 2013. So, in some cases, there is an extra click for the enduser.
    Thanks,
    Mark Kamoski

  • Bug editing list Items using webpart connections ,group by and inline editing

    Hi Everyone. I came across a bug using out of the box features.
    Let me explain well the details to reproduce the error. I used :
    *2 Lists :
    -List one : the consumer list with two columns :
    -Number column
    -Choice column
    -List two :
    The sender list with one column :
      -Lookup column to gets the number column on the consumer list
    *A webpart Page
    *2 listviewwebparts in the webpart page
    *Connect webparts to filter by the lookup column/number column
    *Add inline editing in the consumer webpart
    Till now everything works perfectly, inline editing works fine. Let's add some more view details :
    *Add a group by in the view of the consumer webpart (group by the choice column)
    => Try to edit list items, you will notice that inside a group, inline editing is OK and inside another group it doesnt work!
    If you get the same error, that would be nice to find where is the problem (I already found a similar bug and the problem was the sorting that needs to be in the same way for both connected webparts , ASC or DESC). But this one... ???

    Hi Static,
    According to your description, I create the consumer list and sender list, create a webpart page , add a chioce filter webpart and consumer list webpart. But after I add a group by in the view of the consumer webpart, the inline edit still work fine.

  • How to edit the list box items in labwindow/CVI?

     how to edit the list box items in labwindow/CVI?

    Listbox items cannot be edited directly in the control: what you can do is to select a line an, transfer its content to a textbox control, edit text there and move text back to the listbox control. Available interactions with the listbox control are listed in the help.
    An alternative to it is to use a tree customized to appear like a listbox: tree item labels can be edited directly in the control, at least those in the base column of the tree. You can look at the example \samples\userint\treelist.cws that shows how a tree can be customized this way. I haven't opened it, but this old example too should show the ability to edit tree cells.

  • Open Edit form directly when list item is clicked in Sharepoint 2013 list

    Hi,
    I have a list web part, wherein the user clicks the item it should open in the Edit form directly. various forum i checked was for SharePoint 2010, as we do not have design mode in SharePoint designer 2013, I am unable to do.. I know
    if I the change the form type from default page to edit page, it will work, but not sure about how to go ahead. Could anyone help me to achieve this please....

    Sunitha,
    You can do this with some jQuery and JavaScript.  Look at this post:
    http://brandonatkinson.blogspot.com/2013/11/open-sharepoint-2013-list-items.html
    Basically, add a Script Editor Web Part to the page and include this snippet:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.1.min.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(function() {
    // Change all display form links to edit form links
    $('.ms-vb a[href*="listform.aspx"]').each(function(){
    var link = $(this).attr('href');
    link = link.replace("PageType=4", "PageType=6");
    $(this).attr('href', link);
    </script>

  • Multiple SharePoint 2010 list items edited simultaneously in InfoPath 2010?

    I am looking to distribute a list of accounts to salespeople, so they can update some of the fields for their own accounts and save the changes back to SharePoint. We are currently sending them Excel workbooks, but this isn't ideal.  Since the requirements
    include drop-down choices, conditional formatting, and data validation, I'm wondering if InfoPath can be utilized so that a salesperson can filter the list by their name and see (only) all of their own accounts (records/rows/list items) at once in InfoPath,
    then make multiple changes to different fields (columns) for their accounts, and finally submit the form--saving multiple edited records simultaneously.  Think Datasheet View, but with conditional formatting and data validation. Is this
    possible in any application?

    Hi ired25,
    Few point to mention here.
    InfoPath form will be linked with each SharePoint List item
    user can change/update their own record using Datasheet view(validation will be applied for sure if it configured as formula)
    you can think to use edit form InfoPath form to leverage infopath's powerful rule engine, which might delayed user's productivity but very safe for data.
    I dont think a InfoPath for can handle multiple item in one single form.
    For permission you can think of "Item level permission" from list settings => Advance settings
    As a thought "Content approval" can be used for data sanity.
    Hope this will help

  • Improvements to Export Item in Edit History List

    1st off - I really like that there is an 'Export - (date/time)' item in the history list - thanks .
    2nd - If a title could be added to the export, that would help.
    3rd - If an export plugin could intervene - that would be cool too.
    For example, my web plugin uses 4 phases of export, and I typically do it with 2 tree-sync exports, so I have 6 non-descript export entries each time I export after editing.
    If I could have that web export condensed from 4 to 1 and have the tree-exports labeled to distinguish - it would be perfect!
    Thanks for listening,
    Rob

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to show edit mode when click the "Picture" fields.
    We can use JSLink to achieve it.
    You can follow the steps as below:
    1. Save the following code as a js file(like PictureFieldTemplate.js).
    // List View – Field open modal dialog Sample
    (function () {
    // Create object that have the context information about the field that we want to change it output render
    var pictureFiledContext = {};
    pictureFiledContext.Templates = {};
    pictureFiledContext.Templates.Fields = {
    //"Picture" is the column name. "Picture": { "View": pictureFiledTemplate }
    SPClientTemplates.TemplateManager.RegisterTemplateOverrides(pictureFiledContext);
    function pictureFiledTemplate(ctx) {
    var url= ctx.CurrentItem[ctx.CurrentFieldSchema.Name];
    var itemID=ctx.CurrentItem.ID;
    var itemTitle=ctx.CurrentItem.Title;
    return "<img alt='"+url+"' src='"+url+"' complete='complete' onclick=\"openModalDialog('EditForm.aspx?ID="+itemID+"','"+itemTitle+"')\" />";
    function openModalDialog(url,title)
    var options = {
    title: "Item-"+title,
    width: 600,
    height: 600,
    url: url
    SP.UI.ModalDialog.showModalDialog(options);
    return false;
    2.  Upload the js file into Document Library.
    3.  Edit the list view page.
    4.  Edit the list web part. Go to Miscellaneous -> JS Link.
    5.  Add the following URL into the JS Link textbox.
    ~site/Shared Documents/PictureFieldTemplate.js
    Result:
    If you just want to show edit mode when click a picture, SharePoint provide a column “Edit” to achieve this function.If you don’t want to use the default image, we can use jQuery to change it.

  • Remove/hide "new item or edit this list" link of sharepoint online (office 365) with csom

    as title, I delevelop an app for sharepoint online, so I must use client api to operate sharepoint object. now, i need to remove/hide the link “new item or edit this list”, not use js do it, what can i do? help!!

    Hi,
    Per my understanding, you might want to remove the link “new item or edit this list” of a list view web part using Client Object Model.
    As there is no such property in
    WebPart object can be used to hide/remove the link, I suggest you apply custom CSS style to the page which contains the list view
    web part to hide it.
