  • Excel service and OWA - getting ERROR while trying to open/edit Excel documents

    Hi All,
    We have configured SharePoint 2013 with Excel Service and OWA (Office Web Apps).
    After configuring, we are able to view/edit Word or PowerPoint documents from the browser (as OWA is configured). But we are getting errors while trying to open/edit Excel documents.
    We are not able to view/edit the excel workbook from the browser (through OWA).
    To open the excel in the browser, decision has to be taken at the farm level on what to be used – Excel Service or OWA Server? Is it possible to do setting at site collection level?

  • How to edit Excel files in MacBook Pro

    I just got my first Mac and I am wondering if there are any programs/apps other than numbers or excel for Mac that I can use to edit excel files I have stored in my Dropbox account.  I only have a few files and don't really want to spend alot of money on the previously mention apps/programs since I probably won't be using it alot.   Any suggestion would be appreciated..thanks

    I agree with Niel - OpenOffice is the way to go - http://www.openoffice.org/download/.
    I have Office 2011, so I don't use OpenOffice too often, but it's nice to have something which costs nothing (save the blood and sweat of those who participate in making it work) that will open Word, Excel, etc., documents.
    Good luck,

  • Creating/editing Excel files(.xls)

    hi,
    does anyone knows java opensource library for produce/modify excel files?
    I need a very simple library because i'have not a lot of time for my activity. moreover i need to produce simple excel report from a ResultSet with simple basic formatting infos.
    for example i need to bold the header fields,etc...

    Imagine if the forum had an extra layer between the "Post" button and actually posting the thread.
    It would automatically search the forum (google too perhaps) based on identified key words (create edit excel) in this case and suggest a list of existing threads.
    That would give the originator the chance to find the answer they were looking for without starting a new thread.
    We know that some of these users can't be bothered to search (the beauty of the internet...) so why not do it for them.

  • How to edit Excel files online

    HI, is it possible to edit Excel files online, which where uploaded to webserver. I mean, opening an ecxel sheet changing different fields, and saving the changes without opening the .xls with my local office?
    If yes, how?

    you could try it with http://jakarta.apache.org/poi
    That is a package that allows reading and writing of excel files, it wont be easy as you have to parse the excell file into HTMl that is editable.

  • What is the best App for filing, viewing, editing excel?

    I need help choosing the best app to work with excel for the ipad. I have mariner calc and am unhappy with it. It drops out quite a bit of formatting and you cannot file in folders. What is the best option?
    Thanks!

    To Edit excel files the best app right now is currently Numbers, Numbers is severely limited in file organization and sharing right now. If all you need to do is look at excel files you have a couple options.
    Option 1 (Requires Connectivity):
    Place the file on the web and view it in safari
    Option 2 (Offline use):
    Use Goodreader to download and save your files, you can create folder Heiarchies and copy files from your computer using a sync cable from itunes, via email, or even through wifi.
    If you can find something that combines the two options please let me know as I have been looking for solutions to this problem too. I wish apple had a shared folder space where apps could save files to be used in multiple programs much like they do with the photo albums

  • Edit Excel in Sharepoint

    I have documents saved in a document library in Sharepoint 2010.  I want to be able to have multiple users edit a Microsoft Excel document in Excel by opening a document from this Sharepoint document library.  I am able to change my settings to
    allow multiple users to view and edit Excel documents in the browser.  But I am not able to have multiple users edit the same document at the same time in Excel itself.  Users are required to either wait until the current user finishes using the
    document and/or check out the document in order to make changes.  Is there a solution to enable multiple users to edit an Excel document at the same time from a Sharepoint library?  Thanks.

    Unfortunately, co-authoring is not supported for the Excel 2010 client application in SharePoint Server 2010.
    Check the following article.

    Hello friends recently shifted from windows to mac need some suggestion on which software to go ahead with for creating word editing, excel,power point presentation.

    Only Microsoft's Office for Mac 2011 14.4.8 will work on your Windows Office files in their native document format. Anything else, and particularly Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote will perform translation on open, and export. This can, and will, introduce differences to your original documents, especially when sharing with others in the Windows Office 2010/2013 applications.
    Here is my short list.
    Office for Mac 2011 v14.4.8
    LibreOffice (latest)
    The current iterations of Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are not what I would term business/professional grade applications. Apple updates them infrequently, ignores user friendly features, omits others, and has introduced default backwards incompatibility between Yosemite and prior OS X releases of these applications. Read the reviews in the OS X App Store. Even for free with a recent Mac purchase, these products will transform your mood.
    The free LibreOffice is aggressively developed and designed as an MS Office replacement suite. There are occasions where it can open documents that Office for Mac, and Apple's products ignore. Extensive PDF manuals for the individual applications. Unlike Word, you can have two-up page viewing with a button click, or edit multi-page PDF. There is a forms designer. It can open nearly any document including MS Publisher and Visio documents from the Windows space. I use it.
    MS Office 2015 Preview for Yosemite is available, but as its title would suggest, it is not done yet, and some features are missing. I created a single-page Word document with a DRAFT watermark. Only LibreOffice v4.4.1 was able to open this document and preserve the watermark.

  • Import and edit Excel 2004 graphs?

    There are specific features of Office 2004 that cannot be reproduced anywhere else it seems  – specifically Excel 2004's ability to print a graph to a specific size.
    So I have to keep separate Snow Leopard (the last OS with Rosetta) machines because of this.  Snow Leopard won't run off external drives on newer machines.
    Is there any other software that can import and edit Excel graphs? I receive all my manuscripts from authors with these, but they need standardising to common formats for publication - there are many and there is no time to remake each graph from scratch. Only Excel 2004 under Snow Leopard seems to be the only way of printing (esp to pdf) these graphs to size. According to Microsoft this is a 'known issue' in 2008 and 2011.
    Help!

    Can't answer you but am responding in hopes someone else can.
    Disclaimer: I no longer have 2004 or 2008 and am using 2011 now.
    Exchanging chart images (whether tiff, png, pdf, jpg) is always a challenge - not only between different OS and applications but also within same OS.
    Editing the chart itself that you receive would be a good trick if you mean editing the columns, lines etc.
    I think one solution would be to get the authors whom you deal with to standardize their output and format(s).
    Once in a while I found that importing an object into PowerPoint (2011) as an interim step has helped.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd797428(v=office.15).aspx
    There are various applications on the Mac side other than MS products that of course will open or import objects:

  • Unable to edit Excel file via WebDAV in IE

    LS,
    Aim
    To be able to open an Excel file in Oracle Portal via IE for editing (ergo, if changed it needs to be saved in the same location where it resides = database)
    What have we done so far
    OraDAV has been implemented (basic manner), a pagegroup has been created in Oracle Portal for security, next we stored some Excel files for test purposes.
    Opening and editing using Windows Explorer (when testing) works fine, but opening from browser (Internet Explorer) opens Excel-file in read-only mode!
    Workaround
    Create windows shortcuts to Excel files in the OraDAV Webfolder, shortcuts are then placed in a public Windows-share which is running on a workstation.
    Accessing these shortcuts from both Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer works fine then.
    But...
    Unfortunately, implementing a windows share on a server is considered to be not an option by the network security team, and it's also not an option to continue using a workstation for that purpose.
    What does Metalink say (we created TAR for this)
    CLARIFICATION
    ====================
    This issue happens on WEBDAV.
    Using=>Windows Explorer it works fine.
    Using=>Internet Explorer it does not do as the customer aspected.
    Webdav:
    Using=>Windows Explorer
    going to folder
    http://<machine>:7778/dav_portal/.../QA1.XLS
    double clicked QA1.XLS and this opens in Microsoft Excel.
    After made modifications the file is saved correctly without any issue.
    Using=>Internet Explorer
    Calling the
    URL:http://<machine>:7778/.../QA1.XLS
    the file QA1.XLS opens within Internet Explorer the Microsoft Excel plugin.
    Problem is it the file opened in read-only mode and when you click save it wants to save
    in local drive.
    ISSUE VERIFICATION
    ===================
    Verified the issue by the OWC session.
    RESEARCH
    =========
    TESTCASE
    I have tested the same issue on 9.0.2.3 and 10.1.2 portal versions.
    They are all behaving the same.
    CAUSE DETERMINATION
    ====================
    This is intended behaviour.
    CAUSE JUSTIFICATION

    Details => http://www.webdav.org

    Integrating with the desktop
    File-type item content can also be published to the portal repository via the Webbased Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol. Using a WebDAV client such as Windows Explorer, a portal page group can be mapped as a Web Folder. Users can then simply drag and drop content, files, and folders between portal pages and the desktop. File-type items can also be opened, edited, and saved directly from WebDAV desktop applications like MS Office 2000.
    Thus...
    Even though Metalink is implying it is not possible, one would think it IS possible, since IE is also a valid WebDAV client.
    Bottom line
    Does anyone know how to set up Portal in combination with WebDAV to ensure editing of Excel files will happen via Internet Explorer AND changes will be saved back onto the original location
    Thanks, Patrick

    hi patrick,
    this problem is not solvable on the serverside since this is a desktop integration problem. since you want to use excel as your editor you have to use excel's client side software.
    oracle drive purely addresses desktop integration and is not meant to be a server side component. it is a webdav client and for that only ensures that the communication between the client and the portal server has as much useful functionality as possible.
    the only other option that i see is downloading the document to the client, update it and copy it back up to the portal server, which is cumbersome.
    all webdav clients are client side software that is either shipped with the OS (MS webfolders) or needs to be installed on the client (oracle drive).
    you could check if there is software availble that is an excel plug-in for internet explorer which at the same time talks webdav to portal. not sure if this exists ?
    regards,
    christian
