Editing Libraries

I am trying to edit and save a library item but end up the
change does not propagate to the dependent files. I am accessing
the site remotely via FTP because there are other developers
working on the site and we do not want to overwrite each other's
edits. How can I edit a library item and ensure the change gets
propagated to all pages using this item ? Your help is much
appreciated.

You cannot. Neither Library items nor Templates will function
when you are
editing the files live as you are. You should replace them
with server-side
includes. Or you should change your method to allow each
developer to have
their own local files with checkin/checkout to ensure file
integrity.

  • Convenient way to edit libraries

    Hello everyone!
    Is there any convenient way to edit symbol, swatch or graphic style libraries? The way I do now is  quite time-consuming: I open a library I need to edit, create a new symbol, select other symbols of the opened library (so that they appeared withing the generic "Symbols" tab alongside with the new symbol), then press "Save Symbol Lybrary", select the library I've already opened and replace it with the new one  (with a new symbol added).
    I would prefer just to open a user defined library, drag and drop a new symbol to it and save changes to the library. Is the latter method out there and I just don't know about it? If so, would appreciate a trick to activate that method. Thank  you in  advance.

    Glad you posted as I entirely agree. Updating symbol libraries is time consuming, when it really should be one drag & drop. Makes better sense to save a .file on your desktop and edit and close that as needed.
    The save symbol library command saves to  a .ai file, which is great but the problem is that it comes up with a lock icon on the bottom right. You can overcome the lock icon, by editing the .ai file directly. You have to drill down to that file location, and after all that you need to close and reopen the floating palette.
    So no sadly I believe there is not a better way, unless there is a script or plug in I have not heard about.

  • Editing Libraries Causes Forms to Crash

    I have just installed 6i and am in the process of testing the new version. I have found a problem today with my libraries. It seems that any time I double click on a program unit in a library, Developer crashes. I am able to compile and save libraries fine, I just can't edit them! Has anyone experienced anything like this?
    Thanks...

    Sorry folks... that is in IE10 and IE11... it would seem that this has been hanging around for a while...

  • Unable to find data visualization component in JDEV 11g Preview 4

    we have installed jdev11g preview 4 and we are unable to find ADF data visualization component.
    Is there anyway we could add this component.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
    in the component palette (while having an ADF Faces page open), right click and then choose "Edit Libraries" from the context menu. Choose the DVT libraries and toggle them to the selected libraries. The DVT components should show now

  • Accidentally deleted 'originals' folder

    while re-importing iphoto pictures into the library due to an earlier system error, I realised that both originals and edited libraries were added, hence every photo set was duplicated and this slowed down the program greatly.
    I then deleted the 'originals' folder from the view window and from trash. I then found, to my horror, that the original and existing picture files were deleted from iPhoto library and I am only left with the 'thumbs' folder, in which the resolution of each photo is average of 30kb and very poor resolution!
    I am wondering, is there any way I can restore the original photos again back to its original resolution and not the scaled down 'thumb' sized? I am really upset because the photos mean so much to me. pls help! thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Sorry for your difficulties.
    1. Stop using your mac - it only increases the chances that the files will be overwritten
    2. Download a file recovery software such as File Salvage, you'll also need a HD for the files to be recovered to.

  • Dreamweaver eblast HELP

    I am creating an eblast using photoshop and dreamweaver CS6. I have uploaded it to our FTP, the eblast site looks perfectly fine in our FTP but then when the html is pasted into our maliling service (savicom) there are weird spaces. I get these error codes:
    The message contains links and/or images which reference relative URL's. Relative URL's will not work in an email message. We recommend that you edit the HTML and make these fully qualified URL's.
        The message contains images. Images which are hosted on third-party servers may cause server loading issues in large-scale mailings. If this is a large-scale mailing, we recommend that you take advantage of the Savicom Image Hosting service. To use the image hosting service, select the 'Import message images into image library' entry in the 'Edit Libraries' menu of the HTML Editor. We will import the images into your Image Library and update your HTML to retrieve images from our servers.
    I am not sure what I'm doing wrong...

  • Xml --- edit tag libraries

    I am currently using Dreamweaver 8.0 on Windows XP OS.
    I have created an xml file and added some data. However the
    format of the data is presented as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
    <productListing title="ABC Products">
    <product>
    <name>
    Product One
    </name>

    Product One is an exciting new widget that will simplify your
    life.
    </description>
    <cost>
    $19.95
    </cost>
    <shipping>
    $2.95
    </shipping>
    </product>
    </productListing>
    But I would like to view XML files in the following format
    without line breaks:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
    <productListing title="ABC Products">
    <product>
    <name>Product One</name>
    <description>Product One is an exciting new widget
    that will simplify your life.</description>
    <cost>$19.95</cost>
    <shipping>$2.95</shipping>
    </product>
    </productListing>
    I looked at the tag libraries to see if I could edit
    something there, but had no effect.
    Can anyone assist please ?
    regards

    Unfortunately, Dreamweaver makes a mess of formatting XML.
    The only way
    it will improve is if you and others tell the Dreamweaver
    team directly
    that this is important to you.

  • Editing Between Libraries Notifications

    In working with 10.1.1. and the new Libraries, I find myself working with assets located in different libraries. Is there any possible way of disabling - turning off - the notification window that keeps popping up and reminding me that I'm editing between libraries. I know this. Okay, so how do I disable it? It's just annoying constantly having to take another step in my work flow and click OK.
    Any suggestions to alleviate this issue in 10.1.1?
    Thanks.

    Select Library 2 and i the Inspector, click on Modify Settings. Click the Media button and choose the location you want in Library 2. Then hit Consolidate. That will create a copy of the original media on drive 2. Test to make sure everything links properly and if you want, you can then delete the original file on drive 1.

  • Aperture. Imported libraries, edited images corrupted!

    All existing libraries (old and newer) imported into this latest version of Aperture appear corrupted - not all the images, only the ones round-tripped through photoshop and back. The images show up either as a blanket of messed up coloured lines (garbage) or a black screen with "image format not supported" error. All these images were originally imported in aperture and round-tripped back into aperture - Never touched by any other software and saved in .psd format.
    Has anyone else run into this? Any thoughts would be much appreciated as I have hundreds of hours of editing tied up in the editing of these images and now they are all messed up! Older versions of aperture had no issues like this!
    Please see attached screen grab
    Thanks!

    A lot more than 10% for me unfortunately! The masters seem fine! I had just archived a bunch from my laptop a little while ago and thought that I could then transfer them to my mini easily - well one of Aperture's famous updates screwed that idea up!
    Yeah I too am in the process of trying to re-edit etc. and save some of them. But soo much time already invested. I had one project, among so many, with over 200 pictures heavily edited for a particularly artsy project and not a single one renders properly! And worse, I posted tiny copies of them so people could review and now those that want them want what they saw - So now have to try and duplicate those exact edits! This program is getting far to useless!
    Aperture WAS a good idea but it's costing me much than the organizational help it provides!
    Sorry for the rant, hope you get your stuff sorted out!! And thanks for the thumbnail suggestion, tried that too!

  • Duplicate libraries, multiple edits

    I've made a mess.
    I have a laptop and iMac. I do a lot of editing on the road. I decided to use an external hard drive and keep my iPhoto Library on it. I think this might have been mistake #1 -- I just copied the library over to the hard drive and left the original in place. It was a managed library so I thought this was okay. I'm not sure that it is. I did this probably a year ago. No issues were apparent.
    Eventually, I opened the wrong library on the iMac (had the original open on the local drive), not the external. I edited files like this for a couple of months before I caught my mistake. (I used to keep the ext drive where I couldn't see it. Not any more.)
    All the while, when I was on the road, I was editing files on the external drive, too. So I have two months of edits in two different libraries.
    1. While trying to fix this, I opened the external library on the iMac. I selected Reveal in Finder and uh, oh. It went to a folder in the orginal iPhoto Libary on the local hard drive. Yikes. So, I'm thinking I had a problem from day 1 and didn't know it?
    2. I tried to make a smart album of photos that had been edited. I'm not sure this works. It came up with about 30 photos out of 2200. I'ved edited probably 150 photos, over the life of the library, with the iPhoto editor. At least. I've also edited many, many more with an external editor (PSE), but those got new file names and are easy to find. Is there a better way to find modified files?
    3. I have iPhoto Library Manager. Can this help me solve these problems?
    Thanks.

    Has to be a rather high resolution monitor for this window arrangement to show up... a 15" MacBook Pro will "just" do it.

  • Reinstalling libraries and Edits

    Hi all
    First time on here so please be gentle.
    I have several libraries on Lightroom all edited etc.
    I am wanting to back up all my libraries and the edits done on the files and resintall the computer as the hard drive is dying.
    How do I back up the images and the edits made to them and then resintall them? I know I can back up the libraries but it says nothing about the edits made on them.
    Thanks for your help

    You make backups of the catalog file via Lightroom
    Edit->Catalog Settings->General, under Backup select the desired frequency (for you, if you have never made a backup this way, you should select "When Lightroom Next Exits")
    Then close Lightroom, and a dialog box will appear to make the backup, and you should select a destination for the backup that is on a different disk than the actual catalog.
    You also have to make backups of all of your photos, if you haven't already done so. This needs to be done via your operating system or via third-party software, as Lightroom does not have this function.
    Re-install ... copy photos and catalog file back to their original locations, then double-click on the catalog backup file that you copied back to its original location

  • Locked Libraries ( Actor Framework ) but still editable

    I have a peculiar problem, that is hard to trace.
    I have a project where we use AF quite extensively.
    Upon a run of the project, and shutting down of all the actors, after sending the normal stop to all our actors, many libraries in the project have the locked icon.
    All actors are closed. ( we use the Monitored Actor and our actors inherit from it so we can see that the actors are actually down).
    The most peculiar thing is that even though the libraries are flagged as locked, you can open the VIs , edit and save as if they weren't locked.
    This is happening for us in LV 2013 SP1.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Daniel,
    The issue doens't happen after you first load the project in to the LabVIEW environment.
    If you run the software once, and close all actors, the issue happens; at the moement I'm not 100% sure if it depends on the execution path in the program or if it happens all the time.
    I can't really post the project ... the code belongs to our customer of ours, legal issues etc.
    With respect of the changes that have been made, we have 4+ people working on the project constantly, adding editing vi's etc ,,
    One thing is for certain someone made  a change somewhere at some point of time .
    But we're not really sure when this started occuring, hunitng it down would not be 5 minute job so I decided to post in case someone else had encountered this behaviour.
    We might end up having to do some forensics to try and undertstand when this started occuring by carefully taking consequent versions of the project and running them.
    The problem is that we have a LOT of actors in the project. And the load time of LabVIEW itself to do such experiments is a bit of discourageing.

  • What happened to the default folder set (for your own libraries) in Edit/Preferences, in Adobe Photoshop CC?

    Once again I come to my computer, and it's not the way I left it. While I love cloud, I think in some way, the concept of Customer Service i.e. Providing a Service to a Customer "Set Service, for a Set Price" has lost the value of "service"
    I find it extremely disheartening, to always be dealing with changes Adobe makes, it costs me an exorbitant amount of time. I don't work with a team, so it's just me. And every other week, there is some changes, when my 3D quite working in CS6 I had no forewarning, just woke up one morning and "Poof" no more 3D, the software turned off the feature in my CS6, however, it did work in CC.
    The things I find most disheartening
    features quit working with NO PRIOR WARNING.
    Plug-ins, libraries what, now have to be stored in the cloud in order for MY system to automatically see them?
    Again No Default Libraries on our machines ( unless you think I'm going to store 2 Terabytes of libraries on the cloud and/or in my AppData Directory *not*  Nothing but system/program files themselves go on my Primary drive, everything else is on external drives, this is a security issue and one I'm not about to change, nor should anyone have to change it, since it is a *best practices* standard.
    I still can't access items in (for instance: Color Themes created on Kuler, are available on my computer, but not for me to put them into a library on the cloud. I have over 100 color themes there I have created, on my Creative Cloud account, why can they not be imported or drag/drop into the library designated for it. When I log into my Cloud Account on My iPad it is the same cloud account as on my PC, yet it doesn't even see my previously created color scheme's? Why? Does anyone have any ideas?
    I use a font manager for Windows called High-Logic, a Font Manager, Creator and a Scanner for Hand Writing Fonts Great Program, I've had it for over a year, while there is no plugin for Photoshop there is for In-Design and for Photoshop, I use the Font Manager on my computer to activate the font I want and it shows up in the Character Tool Box automatically.  Yet, just in the last week, every time I try and create something in Photoshop, I'm fine, until I go to use a font, at which time, my working project goes "dark" ( no longer visible) until I click on another tool in Photoshop.
    I cannot keep having these issues, it's way too time consuming, it's exorbitantly time consumer attempting to get a response to questions in the forums (no one's fault, it's just the nature of the forums themselves)
    The true cost of a product is not only in it's subscription based fee, but also includes the time it takes to keep up with product changes, additional training, the cost of delivery (cable connections/provider).  So far since the first of the year I have logged over 100 hours to either 'fix something that quit working with no notice', time spent re-reading documentation seeking a solution, time spent perusing the forums for a solutions, or posting a question, time spent in additional training/books, etc."
    While I understand I'm relatively new, as I had a 5 years off from working, I went from Macromedia Suite 8 to CS5.5 -full suite  (heck-of a learning curve)
    Yet, I cannot believe I am the only person having these issues, otherwise the forums wouldn't be so full.
    I did try limiting the permissions to not allow Adobe to update the software automatically, however, the permissions I wrote, were in fact re-written by adobe's cloud synchronization, Which I did find disturbing on a few levels. None of which I'll go into, but it needed to be mentioned that *yes, I tried that too*.
    *I ended up re-configuring my machine AGAIN* and deleting CS6 altogether, The performance change after I deleted CS6, was/is the difference and why I am still with my cloud membership.
    **I have reconfigured my machine numerous times, to facilitate the cloud, I am on a PC, Adobe and Microsoft Development Environments do not play well together, I ended up removing them altogether and creating a vm for them and basically all my development work. And have twice since reconfigured it for various reasons.

    Hi
    One of the reasons that Edge fonts and web fonts are though to be preferable to the old font stacks was because of Android tablets/smartphones only having the Droid font family available, (Android 4.3 added the Roboto font family also).
    This meant that Android device users defaulted to the 'Droid' font or a user installed font. The default font if the user had installed a custom font and set it as default, could be anything, (even a comic script font) thus possibly destroying your text and/or layout completely.
    If you are not using an Edge font or a downloadable font do not forget to set the last three fonts in your font stack to -
    '...., Roboto variant, Droid variant, default font'

  • Latest version iMovie: cannot see clips in project OR event browser, but they are there in both libraries! So cannot create/edit/publish ANYTHING.

    HI All. I have been having a HECK of a time with iMovie 11!!!  Converted a bunch of video to .mov format, imported into iMovie, and created a project. No problem. Finalized, and published to iTunes, no problem. Saves extra copies. No Problem. SO ... I want to create another project, and follow the instructions RELIGIOUSLY. I can import the video files into the event library, and can drag them into a newly created project, but I CANNOT see the clips in the browser pane for events or library! When I click the playhead in either the event library or the project library (where the clips are edited - supposedly), they play (ie, i hear the audio just fine) ... but NO real-time playback.  ALSO - the video no longer plays for the already completed project when I click the playhead - same deal - not in the project browser, not in the event browser. The playhead runs, but as it moves from thumbnail to thumbnail, each one goes black, and no video plays in real time in the other pane. I closed out of iMovie, did a restart, repaired permissions. No change. I get no error messages, and can find no way to 'reassociate' a project with a set of clips (like one can do in software like Illustrator etc).HELP!!!

    I've spent 3 hours in Apple Covent Garden trying to have this fixed. Most of those were spent doing something to content in iPhoto. It didn't work. Then I left them my computer to reinstall software (Snow Leopard and iMovie) which they said they could do better than me and my discs. But I got back a computer with a new user profile and no files. When I used Time Machine to restore my files to my old profile the problem was just as before except now I've lost a week worth of photos, despite the Time Machine file having been saved just hours before I gave my Mac to the muppets in the Apple store.
    If it's any clue, the other I get is that iMovie searches for four missing movie files when it tries to load. I've tried solving this by creating new files and changing the names to match the ones that are missing (as I read elsewhere in the community works) but it doesn't work.
    So I've wasted hours, a day of Apple having my computer and no one replies to my thread here. What's to be done? Do I give up on iMovie and buy Final Cut pro? And how can I get my week's worth of photos back that have disappeared from TimeMachine, even though everything else in the restoration (e.g. mail and Firefox windows) are completely up to date?
