Editing template text

Hi all,
I'm having problems with the Classic Brochure (marketing) template. The italicised text on page 2 in the left hand column underneath the two photos refuses to be selected or highlighted for editing.
I can't figure out why and it's very frustrating because it is the last bit I need to change to complete my new brochure.

One of the theories mentioned around here since iWork '05 came out is that the designers of the templates did things in many different ways to demonstrate how things could be done. Great idea, but I think it would be nice if there were some kind of documentation of the methods used for each template. With Pages 2, they could use the comment feature (including a comment to turn off comments before printing!).

Can you use lower case in other files? If not, then go to the far right of the tool options and click the little four-lined square and choose Reset Tool.

Newborn Newbie Needs To Edit Flash Template Text

First, I AM learning Flash 8 at Lynda.com. However I have the immediate need to know how to edit the text in a .fla file in F8. I am fairly proficient in Dreamweaver 8 and Photoshop CS, although that may not matter in the case of Flash.
I do not know how to get at nor edit the text in an .fla file. I've opened an .fla in Flash but it looks like everything's on one layer and I assumed Flash was like PS in that there are many layers of content. I tried but I mangled it badly. I don't really know how the text tools work in Flash.
I purchased the following template from Flashden:

Xml files are included but unfortunately they only drive the galleries and not the rest of the site. Can someone please school me in very very (to the 100th power) basic steps on how I get at this text, edit it, and how I convert the .fla to a .swf and export it to Dreamweaver?

The text may be in an external .txt or .xml file. If you think that the text is written directly in the Flash movie, you can use the Find and Replace tool to find the text. Open the movie, select the stage window, go to the Edit menu and select find. When this window opens type in some of the text that you're trying to find, select Text and Actionscript in the options and and hit the find button. This should give you a list of the places where that text exists in your movie.

Can an InCopy editor add, remove and edit a text frame placed inside the main story text frame?

I think I already know the answer to this which is - no. I'll explain why I am asking the question in a second, but the reason I think the simple answer is no is because - text frames are controlled by a designer in the layout file, an editor using incopy can only edit the text and images placed inside text frames, and so cannot resize them, add or delete them.
Ok, so the reason I have asked this.
Is there a way around this so that editors in incopy can edit certain types of text frame that are contained within the main text frame? I'm using these text frames to contain specific paragraph styles, giving them a boxed look and also with an anchored icon in the top left of the text frame depending on the type of paragraph it is. See screenshot as an example of a green text frame that I am using to contain paragraphs of type "tip".
If it is not possible for editors in incopy to add, edit or resize these text frames (green tip frame in the example above), then how else can I style these paragraphs to give the same visual appearance, but without the use of wrapping them in a text frame?
One (not so good) way around this is for the designer to add the text frames in the layout file after he gets the content back from the editor, then moving the "tip" paragraphs into these newly created text frames. However when the editor updates the content in incopy and gets these new text frames in their copy, they can not then delete them if they wish to, or if they add or reduce content inside of these green text frames then the frames dont grow to fit their edited content. So I dont think its a solution for the designer to control the adding, removing and resizing of these frames.
UPDATE: I have just discovered that once a text frame has been placed into the document by the designer and the editor updates their copy in incopy- they can then use the "Position Tool" to select that text frame - allowing them to resize it, or delete it! Fantastic. But would the editor be able to add these frames in themselves to begin with? Maybe have a document containing all of the objects available to them, copy and paste one of them into the main document and edit its content? Does anyone have any advice on how to go about this? Essentially I would like the editor to control the insertion, editing and removal of these inline text frames.

True. But when all I am trying to achieve is a border around a paragraph, use of a table seems overkill to me. But if thats the only solution I have so far then I will have to go down that route.
It would be useful to have an object libraries panel in InCopy so that editors can drag across predefined text frames into their doc via InCopy, but I cant see that option in InCopy. is there one? I have also thought about exporting the frames as seperate InDesign Snippets and saving them to an objects folder, then when an editor needs to insert one into their doc they simply use File > Place > "Choose required text frame snippet". However I have found that InCopy can't place InDesign snippets so that theory was a failure. Is there another format I could use to save the objects and bring them into InCopy? List below shows my findings so far for trying to save/export a text frame from InDesign and then import into InCopy:
InDesign Snippet (.idms) - can't import into InCopy
InDesign Document (.indd) - imports content as an image - only editable in InDesign
InDesign Template (.indt) - imports content as an image - only editable in InDesign
InDesign Library (.indl) - can't import into InCopy - no panel available in InCopy for object libraries (that I can see...)
InCopy Markup (.icml) - only imports the text, loses the text frame

Editing template content of 'standard' templates in Business Catalyst

I used the Uniquate template example as the basis of the development of a new site. While I can update content I cannot find a way of editing the text within the standard template framework. For example I cannot edit 'Uniquate' to my required title. Have searched through the help pages. Surely there should be an easy way to overtype / edit the backbone structure or is it better to start from scratch? Can anyone advise the best approach. Thanks Stewart

I dont use templates in BC but content can be found in the system layouts, module layouts, templates, pages and things like content holders. What is the context of where that is. Knowing that will help lead you to the layout or content holder or template etc...

Problem on editing template   .dwt file

I have a problem with dreamweaver template.
When I edit a template in dreamweaver, and apply changes to all the pages , it propogates on all pages and .dwt file also ,
but all the design or layout or graphics of the pages are gone and everything gets messed up.

The problem is your link to CSS file. Template is incorrectly pointing to files on your local hard drive.

Template Text Appears Reversed "Mirrored" After Burning

Greetings, I am using DVD Studio Pro 3.02 with Final cut 4.5
I have imported my Video asset with Markers created in Final cut, into DVD Studio, I drag the asset to the menu stage, and am asked to build a menu index I pick a template with the right amount of buttons, edit the text on the buttons for proper spelling an capitlization... Hit the preview button, all looks great... I burn a DVD, it pops out, pop it into a P.C. or apple and all the text is reveresed, backwords, DVD plays fine. What is up?

It is a known bug with an incompatible graphics card in some [older] Macs. If you change your preferences to 'software encoding' instead of 'hardware encoding' in DVD SP, the problem should go away.
Also have a search of previous threads for "backwards" et c. for more detail.

Editable template for client?

Is there such a thing as to build a template in Illustrator so that the client can change the text on it? Kind of like a Content Management System on a Website?
If so, what would the client be able to use to edit in? Of course, the client would like little to no expense.

It's done all the time using Illustrator (or most any other graphics program that can export to PDF) in combination with Acrobat.
1. Draw the artwork in Illustrator (or whatever). Everything except the text that needs to be editable by the end user.
2. Export to PDF.
3. Open in Acrobat Pro.
4. Add text fields.
5. Enable the PDF for Reader Extensions.
The recipient can now simply open the PDF in Reader, edit the text in the fields, and save a copy of the PDF with the edits intact.

BUG: EL does not evaluate when used in template text but does in tag.

When I run the jsp below the EL on Line1 evaluates but the EL on Line2 does not. It was my understanding that the form in Line2 should be valid.
Environment is Jdev 10.1.3.3, Servlet 2.4, JSP 2.0, J2EE 1.4, JSTL 1.1
Does anyone have any thoughts?

The problem appears to be related to jdev j2ee 10.1.3.3. I installed a fresh copy of jdev j2ee 10.1.3.3. I created a new application, project, and jsp. I placed the ${1+2} EL in the JPSs body as part of the Template Text. The EL did not evaluate.
I then installed a fresh copy of jdev studio 10.1.3.3 and followed the exact same steps. Using jdev suite the EL does evaluate.
It is my understanding the EL is part of the JSP API under JSP 2.0 so I would have assumed that it should evaluate under JDEV J2EE 10.1.3.3.

How do I add image upload to web app edit template?

How do I add image upload to web app edit template. When creating fields I am selecting image from the field type. But the only way to upload and image is when I create the web app item within the admin. The option to upload an image is not available when the user submit web form opens.
Wont send any of these questions through this email anymore but really needed assistance.

On the Details tab of the Web App setup, under Web App Item Options; have you ticked "Allow File Upload" and specified a Default Upload Folder?

Editing Multiple Text layers in Photoshop CC

Hi,
I have a problem when tyring ot edit multiple text layers and it's really a big problem as it crops up with virtually every design I do (websites, games apps...)
In previous versions of PS, you could select multiple text layers and edit them in bulk, so for exmaple, select a number of text layers, then change their font size (to say 20pt)... done.
However, with CC, there seems to be some odd 'ratio' editing goign on - if I select multiple text layers of different size and edit them (to all be 20pt, for example), it seems to just 'add' 20pt to what ever font size the individual layers were
It's a real issue/pain for me (and I suspect many others)
Please is there a fix or a way to switch off this 'feature'?
So to clarrify, I want to edit multiple (often different) text layers in one go to be the same font size... like I used to be able to.

The last few times we saw this, it was due to a bug in a video card driver.
Please update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website.

Design Editor Crashes on editing USER TEXT

I am running Designer 9i version 9.0.2.10 on windows XP. Everytime I try to use either Text Editor or HTML editor for editing user text under USER TEXT tab of a module definition, the Designer crashes. I have checked the Text Editor options under the Options menu and they are correctly formatted and defined.
Any clues?

We launch DE from the Front Panel. Inbetween we found out that it probably is caused by a conflict with other software on the PC. The problems occur on a PC with a pre-installed developer's image, and then Developer suite 10g installed on top of it. On a PC with "normal" company image it seems to be OK.

Can you edit the text of a PDF that is placed in inDesign

I have placed a PDF in inDesign and am curious if I can edit the text of that PDF while in inDesign.

How can I merge 3 or more individual text fields into an editable summary text field?

I am stuck and do not know where to begin. I am self taught in using Adobe LiveCycle and have found many answers here in the forums and via trial and error.
I cannot find or create the correct java script or form calc to feed multiple text fields into one text field. My supervisor is asking me to do this for two sections of a form I created using Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2.
1) Merge all 3 user entered text fields to an user editable summary text field at the end of the form.
2) Merge all 24 user entered text fields to an user editable summary text field at the end of the form.
Since they are all individual text fields in response to various questions, I cannot use the global binding function. I do not want the summary text field to override the individual text fields.
Here is the java scripting I placed on Show: calculate* Language: javascript Run: at client
