EJB-QL and ejb-name bug

Hi,
I think I found a bug when using EJB-QL with oc4j.
If the name of your bean (<ejb-name> tag) is set to something with a "dot". E.g. "mytests.MyLocalBean" then the finder methods (using EJB-QL) will return an SQL exception. The exception says that no table named "MyLocalBean" can be found. The "mytests" prefix seems to be missing in the dynamically generated SQL statement.
If I change the bean name to "MylocalBean" everything works fine.
I'm currently using Iterbase DB, but I think this is an error in the oc4j container.

    nickname to the JNDI location of its choice
    EJb Reference are declared in the deployment descriptor

  • Error trying to deserialize EJB HomeHandle and EJB Handle classes

    I get the following exception when I try to deserialize both a javax.ejb.HomeHandle and a javax.ejb.Handle.  I serialize and immediately deserialize within the same application using the same classloader so there are not alot of external variables that may cause the problem.  Any ideas on why I can't deserialize an ejb handle?
    The reason I am doing this is to try and get around the need to reference another application just to call a remote method in that application.  I want to serialize the remote home interface handle or the remote component interface handle and deserialize it using my local application classloader.  Does anybody know if this would work?

    Has anyone been able to get this to work?  Or can anyone confirm that this is a bug?
    As a simpler test, I modified the UserManagementBean of the Car Rental example application.  I added some code in the register method that serializes and deserializes the Handle object obtained from the SessionContext.getEJBObject().getHandle() method.  The serialization completes without issue.  However, I get the same error when trying to deserialize the Handle object:

  • Servlet jndi lookup to remote EJB, servlet and EJB not in the same application

    I have Oracle IAS9i 9.0.2.0.0, and JDeveloper 9.0.2.829
    I have deployed and EJB in IAS9i and i want to use from the developer machines, which have JDeveloper.
    how can i to do remote calls from JDeveloper?.
    I have modifed the orion-application.xml, and added remote=true.
    I have modifed the rmi.xml and added the hosts where the Jdeveloper placed.
    Any ideas?

    have these deployment descriptor tags?Yes, to write portable J2EE components, every time you have a dependency on an ejb, you need to declare an ejb-ref (for a Remote EJB client) or ejb-local-ref (for a Local EJB client). This is true no matter what kind of J2EE component is accessing the ejb (Application Client, JSP, Servlet, or another ejb).
    Think of the ejb-ref or ejb-local-ref as a pointer. It's different from the thing that is pointed to. Instead, it represents a dependency between a client component and a target ejb.
    2) What is purpose of ejb-link tag ?Every ejb-ref or ejb-local-ref must be resolved to unambiguously point to the target ejb. The ejb-link tag is one way to resolve this dependency for the case where the target ejb lives in the same .ear as the referring component. The ejb-link tag is the ejb-name (or <ejb-jar uri>#<ejb-name>) of the target ejb.
    Note that this means ejb-link is the ONLY way to resolve an ejb-local-ref, since by definition Local EJB access can only take place between two ejbs within the same .ear or a web component/ejb that live within the same .ear.
    For ejb-refs, you can use ejb-link if the target ejb is within the same .ear. If not, the ejb specification does not prescribe how the dependency is resolved. It's left up to the J2EE implementation. The most common approach is for the vendor to provide a product-specific runtime .xml element that resolves the ejb-ref by associating it with the global JNDI name of the target EJB. That's the approach used in the J2EE SDK and Sun Java System Application Server.

  • How will be the weblogic-ejb-jar and ejb-jar xml for EJB Local Interface?

    I have one ear application which is using Stateless Session Beans. I don't have any Bean to Bean communication . At present, the client is invoking remote methods thro Home/Remote interfaces. My doubt is , shall I implement EJBLocal home/ local interface to obtain this same functionality cos, in this app, both client and EJb bean have been deployed in same JVM. Can Local interfaces only be applicable to Bean - Bean relation ship?If LocalHome/Local interfaces can be implemented in my scenario, then may I know how will be the ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml?

    Local interfaces are for communication between ejbs and their clients when both are in the same JVM. The clients can be normal clients, jsps, servlets, and other ejbs. If the client is not in the same JVM you cannot use local interfaces even though your client is another ejb.
    Advantage of using local interface is it reduces the network overhead.

  • Many EJB's and ejb-jar.xml

    I will have about 20 EJB's who have relationships with each other.
    Now all those EJB's come in the same deployment descriptor, causing it to grow to over 2000 lines.
    Is it possible to split the ejb-jar.xml in several ejb-jar.xml's? One for every EJB or one for every EJB group as a business object pattern.
    Or is there another solution?

    No - this is a case of "what you sow, you reap." In other words, if you have that many relations, you have a large ejb-jar.xml, since all the Entities involved in the relations must be in the same .jar file. What I would try to do is break down the relations into logical groupings and, ideally, those groups would not have relations with each other. Then split those groups out into separate deployments. Or if the relation between two groups is "light" (maybe only one), you can manually handle the relation through remote calls, instead of using CMR.

         jndi-name- name by which remote components identify a particular bean.

  • EJB Refs ( coded name and JNDI name )

    I am just starting to develop EJBs . I can't get to work the EJB refs as expected . In a session bean I have a lookup for an Entity bean . Both beans are in separate JAR files , but in the same ear .
    The lookup from session bean to entity bean only works when
    the coded name in EJB ref is defined exactly the same as JNDI name for enity bean , also the name in lookup method must be the same in session bean .
    To my surprise , the JNDI name for the target EJB , defined in EJB ref for session bean , does not mater at all . Even if I change it to a non existant name , the bean lookup works .
    Theoritacally I understand that EJB ref is there to provide a mapping between the name of bean mentioned in code to the actual JNDI name of another bean , at the time of deployment .
    The above is happening in J2EE 1.4 envoirment .
    Please let me know , what am I doing here that is wrong .
    ( All examples and tutorials , usually give coded name same as JNDI name ) .

    Hi Tarun,
    The ejb-ref-name lives in a different namespace than the global JNDI names. Any names of ejb-refs, ejb-local-refs, resource-refs, etc. are scoped within a particular component's private namespace. All environment references are accessed via the java:comp/env namespace at runtime. So, if your ejb-ref-name(a.k.a "coded name") is ejb/foo in the deployment descriptor, you would access it from the code as follows :
    initialContext.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/foo");
    This way, neither the standard deployment descriptor nor the code has any dependency on the global JNDI name. That's a good thing since the decision about which target EJB should be linked to is often not made until deployment time rather than development time. Furthermore, it means if you want to change the linking you can always do it without recompiling your code.
    As for the global JNDI names, the first thing to note is that they are completely vendor-specific. That's why they don't appear in the standard deployment descriptor. In the J2EE SDK, each EJB that exposes a Remote view is assigned a global JNDI name in sun-ejb-jar.xml. This JNDI name is assigned from the global namespace of the application server. There's nothing stopping it from also being "ejb/foo", but it refers to a different thing than the "ejb/foo" above.
    Now we have an ejb-ref called ejb/foo and an ejb whose JNDI name is ejb/foo, but we haven't linked the two. When it comes to linking, you have two choices:
    1. If the target ejb is in the same .ear as the client component, you can use the ejb-link mechanism. This allows you to specify the target ejb by referring to its ejb-name. Since ejb-name is only guaranteed to be unique within an ejb-jar, the syntax allows for you to give the uri of the containing ejb-jar, followed by #, followed by ejb-name.
    2. Alternatively, you can specify the global JNDI name of the target ejb using sun-ejb-jar.xml Note that this will work whether the target ejb is in the same .ear or not. However, it's the only option if the target ejb is in a different .ear. In this case, you would create an ejb-ref entry for the client component within the sun-ejb-jar.xml. e.g. :

    <ejb-name>MyClientBean</ejb-name>
    <ejb-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>ejb/foo</ejb-ref-name>
    <jndi-name>ejb/foo</jndi-name>
    </ejb-ref>
    </ejb>
    Again, it's just a coincidence that both names happen to be ejb/foo. They refer to different things.
    When you do a global lookup from your code, initialContext.lookup('ejb/foo"), it will work in some environments because you're simply bypassing the level of indirection provided by your component environment and going straight to the global namespace. This is non-portable and not a good idea, since you've now tightly coupled the name of the target ejb to your client component. That means if it changes you need to recompile your code.   • EJB 3.0 Bean name

    Is there a way that we can override the EJB 3.0 Bean name in the deployment descriptor? I know we can provide the name in the Annotation via @MessageDriven(name="bar").
    For example, if I have the following Bean,

    For a JEE5 EJB module, rather than using EJBGen, you can use WLS specific annotations for configuring common settings. If you follow the link below, you can see a list of supported EJB annotations. Disregard the fact that the documentation section title is WebLogic Kodo Annotations. That is incorrect and I've filed a bug for it.

    Unfortunately, we don't yet support setting all weblogic-ejb-jar.xml configuration values via annoations so in some cases a weblogic-ejb-jar.xml is still required.

  • OC4J EJBQL and EJB 2.0 features

    I've got all howtos and I mangaged to get some parts of OC4J [Oracle9iAS (9.0.3.0.0) Containers for J2EE (build 020323.1689)] working.
    There are still some issues that are stalling our development. Could you please comment on them, maybe providing an estimate of when they will be solved/implemented?
    First of all, a little background. Our application uses many Java Swing application clients that connect to the EAR application in the container.
    The ear application has the following structure:
    All database access (Oracle 8i, located in its own server) is done exclusively by means of CMP entity beans. A entity bean may access other entity beans. There are workflow session beans (stateful and stateless) that access the entity beans. All clients see only the workflow session beans (session beans fagade).
    Our applicatoin is complex, having more than 80 session beans and more than 25 entity beans (not counting entity beans that exist only to represent relationships among entity beans).
    There goes the questions:
    1) It seems that entity beans cannot currently be referenced by remote interfaces. We couldn't deploy our application using it. Since we could use only local interfaces fot entity beans, thats what is been done now.
    2) There is no CMR supported. Is this true?
    3) EJBQL seems to be very limited. In the howto examples there are EJBQL statements that compare two numbers. However, when we tried to use String comparisons, it didn't work. Here is the statement:
    "SELECT DISTINCT OBJECT(p) FROM Person p WHERE p.name = ?1"
    If I compile, package and deploy the ear applicatin with the above EJBQL statement, OC4J generates an exception when executing the finder method. The exception is:

    Some colleagues and I are trying to port a large project from JBOSS to OC4J. We used JBOSS 3.0 (beta) in order to evaluate EJB2.0 features and see if we could use it. We already have OC4J in production, but only as a JSP/Servlet container. The next step would be to deploy our EJB application to OC4J.
    We have read the material and it is written that OC4J (developers preview) is EJB 2.0 compliant. However, the specific documentation and the examples don't show how to specify OC4J specifc XML files. We absolutely need CMR and Local Interfaces, because we don't have the time required to downgrade our JBoss EJB2.0 application to the EJB 1.1 specification. We have over 80 Session Beans and over 20 Entity Beans.
    Is there anybody there that can confirm that OC4J developer's preview is really EJB2.0 compliant? If so, could you send me some pointers to information about OC4J container specifc deployment descriptors? The docs listed at the web site don't have EJB2.0 features listed, nor does the Oracle samples.

  • WebLogic 11g EAR EJB Classpath and class loaders

    All,
    I have been having issues migrating Spring based EJB applications from OC4J to WebLogic 11g (10.3.1). I have been in communication with Oracle who has suggested a work around however I am keen to see if anyone else can suggest a solution.
    The application is dependant on stateless session EJB beans that communicate with a Spring managed service tier to perform the business logic and database access. PitchFork is used to inject the Spring managers into the EJB’s using the spring-ejb-jar.xml configuration file. Note originally I was using the SpringBeanAutowiringInterceptor however I could not get this to work. See WebLogic 11g and Spring beens injected into EJB for details.
    When the application is deployed packaging all the dependant jars within the APP-INF\lib folder I get a verity of errors from the following InvalidClassException, NoSuchMethodError, AbstractMethodError and IllegalArgumentException. I am using Spring 2.5.3 to match the supported WebLogic version. Note within the EAR application.xml the library-directory is set to APP-INF/lib. The issue appears to be Spring, PitchFork, commons-logging and aspectj libraries are being loaded form WebLogic and do not have visibility on jars within the application or have been modified when bundled for WebLogic. An example of this is the PitchFork jar within WebLogic has been changed excluding the spi package resulting in java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.jee.spi.PitchforkUtilsImpl errors.
    Moving the jars to the domain library path does not resolve any of the issues. I have been unable to successfully deploy the application picking up the application jars using the prefer-application-packages configuration.
    Oracle has advised me to deploy the libraries into the WebLogic system classpath by modifying the startWebLogic command to load the libraries into the classpath. I am concerned that modifying the system classpath will result in an unstable WebLogic server as I will be replacing modified jar files packages with WebLogic (such as PitchFork). This will also limit the applications that can be deployed within the server as each application must use the same libraries and versions (as the application ibraries are leing ignored).
    Has anyone else hit this issue and corrected it? Can anyone think of an alternative solution?

    I am in the process of updating the tracking bug# 331569 with copies of the eclipse EAR/WAR projects and the EAR for these scenarios. Here are some details on how I got past the 2nd CCE on the org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider class (not the javax one)

    Essentially an SE persistence unit running both JPA 2.0 api and the 2.0 XSD schema work fine. I will next retest the EE case with variations of the 3 types of injection on the SSB or Servlet.
    Update: There are 3 (possibly 4) issues here (all of these may become obsolete when the next WLS version ships)Initially I got the same 2.0 schema error and the ClassCastException on org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider
    It turns out that my import of the 2 eclipse projects from my bug # 296271 for WebLogic 10.3.2.0 lost their facets(specifically the dynamic web facet) because I associated them with a different WebLogic 10.3.3.0. - this caused the CCE I was experiencing like Sri.
    Anyways, after creating an EAR/Web project combination from scratch in eclipse associated with the 10.3.3.0 instance - I predeployed/deployed/ran fine - even with the 2.0 schema - in SE bootstrap mode (no EE yet).
    Reproduction Procedure:

    I am trying to configure an EJB 3.0 but not able to do so properly.
    I have a single business interface and 2 bean implementation class of the same business interface doing different things. How do I access the EJB's if I have the same business interface class.I am getting JNDI error while trying to lookup.
    Also what does the "name" and "mappedName" in @Stateless(name ="...",mappedName="") signify.
    Then in case of Dependency injection,how should I look for the EJB? What would be it's JNDI name in this case?

    In @Stateless, @name() is the annotation equivalent of <ejb-name> in ejb-jar.xml. It gives a unique bean name identifier to the component within the ejb-jar. It is completely independent of mappedName. If no @Stateless name() is specified, it defaults to the unqualified bean class name.
    In @Stateless, mappedName() is used to assign a global JNDI name to the bean's remote interface. This can be used to explicitly lookup the EJB reference to that interface or as one way to resolve a caller's EJB dependency.
    In @EJB, if the target of the dependency lives within the same application, you can always fully resolve it using only beanName(). beanName() takes the value specified in @Stateless name(), or the default as described above.
    @EJB name() assigns a name to the client dependency within the caller's component environment. It is optional. In most cases that value doesn't matter since if the dependency is being injected you never have to refer to the name() attribute anywhere else.
    @EJB mappedName() is used to resolve an EJB dependency that spans applications. It holds a global JNDI name, e.g. the one specified in @Stateless mappedName(). mappedName() is not required to be supported by all vendors.
    So, to sum it all up, it's fine to have two different beans that expose the same interface. E.g. :

    I am compiling and creating jar file for this class. Then I am creating a .ear file for this.

    Dear gurubbc,
    I don't know if it still matters to you but you can use the javax.ejb.MessageDriven annotation to point your bean on your queue. I had the same issue like you but i could not solve it properly by switchihg to weblogic.ejb.MessageDriven.
    Use the following annotation and it should work out:

    Here you can see that the mappedName is the JNDI name of the queue you are trying to connect to. The name is the name for your Bean, and the only property passed is the destination type.

              Some days ago (before the final remarks from my client) there used to be only one DataSource configurated on the basis of the
              connection pool with non-XA jdbc driver. Everything worked fine
              including the transactions (if anything wrong happend not only wasn't the replymessage sent, but also no changes were written
              to database and the incomming message was thrown back to the my bean's
              queue).
              When I deployed the second DataSource I was informed by an error message, that only one non-transactional resource may
              participate in a global transaction. When I changed both datasources
              to depend on underlying datasources with transatcional (XA) jdbc drivers, everything stopped working. Even if
              EJB transaction was theoretically successfully rolledbacked, the changed were written to the database
              and the JMS message wasn't resent to the JMS queue.
              So here are my questions:
                   1. How to configure connection pools to work in such situations? What JDBC drivers should I choose?
                   Are there any global server configurations, which may influence this situation?
                   2. Which jdbc drivers should I choose so that the container was able to rollback the database transactions
                   (of course, if necessary)?
                   3. Are there any JMS Queue settings, which would disable the container to send message back to the
                   queue in case of setRollbackOnly()? How should be the Queue configurated?
              As I am new to the topic and the deadline for the project seems to be too close I would be grateful
              for any help.

              I found these information extremely useful and helpful.
              The seperate transaction for sending messages was, of course, unintentional. Thanks a lot.
              Anyway, I still have some problems. I have made some changes to the
              code cited in my previous mail. These changes included changing QueueSessions
              to non-transactional. I also set the "Honorate global transactions" to true.
              I am using XA JDBC driver. After setting "Enable local transactions" to false
              (I did it, because I assume that JDBC transactions should be part on the global
              EJB transaction) I got the following error:
              java.sql.SQLException: SQL operations are not allowed with no global transaction by default for XA drivers. If the XA
              driver supports performing SQL operations with no global transaction, explicitly allow it by setting
              "SupportsLocalTransaction" JDBC connection pool property to true. In this case, also remember to complete the local
              transaction before using the connection again for global transaction, else a XAER_OUTSIDE XAException may result. To
              complete a local transaction, you can either set auto commit to true or call Connection.commit() or Connection.rollback().
              I have also inspected the calls of methods of bean inside of onMessage() method just to check, whether
              the transactions are correctly initialized (using the weblogic.transaction.Transaction class).
              My questions are as follows:
              1. Any suggestions how to solve it? I have gone through the google answers on that problem and only
              thing I managed to realize that JDBC must start its own transaction. Is there any way to prohibit it
              from doing that? Can using setAutocommit(true/false) change the situation for better?
              2. How to encourage the JDBC driver to be a part of EJB transaction?
              3. As I have noticed each of ejb method has its own transactions (transactions have different
              Xid). Each method of the bean has "required" transaction attribute. Shouldn't it work in such
              way that if already started transaction exists it is used by the called method?
              4. The DataSources are obtained in my application via JNDI and in the destination environment I will have slight
              impact on the configuration of WebLogic. What is least problematic and most common WebLogic configuration which would
              enable JDBC driver to participate in the EJB transaction? Is it the WebLogic configuration problem or can it be
              solved programmically?
              Currently my module works quite fine when "enable local transactions" for DataSources is set to true, but this way
              I am loosing the ability to perform all actions in one transaction.
