EJB3 and/or Toplink and setting context for VPD

We are looking at moving to the latest version of jdeveloper and taking advantage of the ejb3 and/or toplink features for the model part of applications. I have a question on how to set the vpd context using this new model. Currently we use:
Jdeveloper 10.1.2.1
Oracle application server 10g R2 Enterprise Edition ver 10.1.2.0.2
OracleOCI driver
Oracle 9i database
Our database access is in regular java beans where we get a connection from the pool , set the context for the current user (by running a stored procedure on the connection) perform the required data access and then release the connection. It looks like when you use Toplink or EJBs with CMP the database access is out of the developer's control. How will I be able to set the context for each connection ( it's different for each user) once I move to the new model?

I have been told though, that since we are deploying to the OC4J container and it will manage persistence and since EJB 3 simplifies the creation of entity beans that we should use EJB 3 entity beans and a session facade for the model and not add toplink as it would be an extra layer we don't really need , would you agree?

SGA_MAX_SIZE and SGA_TARGET how to set minimum for pools

Hello, we are on 10.2.0.4, Solaris 5.10. We are using ASMM, so SGA_TARGET and SGA_TARGET size are set. Hence, buffer cache, shared pool, large pool and java pool are automatically sized. However, we do not have any minimum values for those. How do I determine what this minimum value should be?

Can't login to certain sites and Firefox doesn't set changes for Permissions

Each time Firefox upgrades I have difficulty logging into www.cokeunleashed.com.au. Had this problem in the past and was fixed by going to Tools, Page Info, Permissions. When I go to Tools, Options, Privacy and make changes, click OK but when I go back the changes have not happened.

Rename the file "permissions.sqlite" to permissions.sqlite.sav in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file is corrupted.
This will remove all exceptions (cookies, images, pop-ups, software).<br />
If renaming didn't help then you can undo and rename the file permissions.sqlite.sav to permissions.sqlite to get back the old exceptions.

Toplink and VPD

Hi,
In a three-tier architecture, has anyone successfully implemented VPD in combination with Toplink and a ConnectionPool?
When all my web-users are connecting to the database with the same (connection pool) credentials, how, when and where do I tell my database who is really logged in (web-user) and thus how to set the specific VPD for that web-user?

Just to add an extra question: Is it true that when one is using chained Toplink actions in a request-response cycle that each action will fetch its own connection from the pool and thus for each time a connection is fetched the VPD needs to be set again?
This in contrast with BC4J, where all actions in a request-response cycle will share the same application module and thus the same connection.
Bottom line: how to configure Toplink so that for each fetched connection it tells the database: "Hey, its me again, please set the application context (VPD) to my own personal values, so I will only see my own records"?
. And to clean it up nicely: just before the connection is released to the pool: "Ok, I'm done, please reset the application context, so other users will not be bothered by my context".
Hard to believe nobody has tried this before.

Best storage set-ups for large Libraries?

Let's say "large Library" means 500 GB and/or 500,000 Images, and above.
What set-ups for storage, on a Mac maximized with RAM, will provide the best Aperture performance? The best bang-for-the-buck? Assume Thunderbolt is available. I don't know much about hardware: RAID, hybrid drives, etc.
What sensible considerations should one make for backup and data-redundancy?
How can I determine if the storage media is a bottleneck in the performance of Aperture on my system?

Some of that, demonstrably, comes when I run a three-monitor set-up. (But this provides some welcome advantages to me.)
Additionally, some back-ups and database repairs now take 12 hr. or longer.

I kept my c. 2011 MPB and use it for making back-ups, which is done automatically after I leave for the day. My early-2013 MPB is so much faster (and has such a higher-resolution screen) that I don't use the older computer at all.

OWC tech explained to me that TBolt2 allows 2x the throughput, but that the drives have to be able to provide it. The problem, for me, is that the large Libraries are close to 1TB (with Previews). While I don't expect them to grow (the data acquisition phase is, for now, done), it would be short-sighted to assume they won't. That brings up the second consideration, which is how to best use spanned drives that contain an Aperture Library.
As I see it (with my limited understanding of hardware), what I really want is _a lot more RAM_, or, barring that, a huge SSD scratch disk. I have 200 GB free on my system drive, which is an Apple-supplied SSD, but it doesn't seen to be used as effectively as I'd like.
WD is now selling a new portable TBolt SSD, the "My Passport Pro", available with 4 GB of storage, and with a throughput of 230 MB/s. My current largest Library is on WB Passport drives, whose throughput is not faster than 480 Mb/s (Max) (I assume BITS, not BYTES, so 40 MB/s). That's a huge difference, while still only 1/4 of the speed possible with TBolt1, and 1/8 the throughput possible with TBolt2 (which my early-2013 MBP does not have, afaict).
These are the questions I am trying to answer:
- How can I measure my current throughput?
- Can I determine the bottleneck in my use of large Libraries in Aperture?
- Will new storage give me faster performance?
- Which storage will give me the best "bang-for-my-bucks"? (The La Cie "little big disk" seems to have it's bang limited by my computer, which greatly lowers its quotient value.)
In short: how can I get 900-1000 MB/s throughput on my machine, and is there any way to set up my Library so that, even though it is close to 1 TB, I can use a smaller very fast drive for the most read/written files?

EJB3 and Toplink pre-allocation size for Sequences

How do I override the Toplink pre-allocation size for Sequences for a EJB3 Project?
My problem in detail:
I have a DB sequence which gets incremented by 1. I am using this sequence to generate primary keys for one of my tables. If I try to use the @GeneratedValue annotation for this primary key, then I am getting toplink validation exception 7027. I gather that this exception comes because the default pre-allocation size (increment-by value) is 50 for TopLink while DB uses 1. Now is there is any possiblity for me to override the default pre-allocation size for EJB3 project?
Currently I am leaving the primary key empty when I persist the entity and letting a DB trigger insert the sequence value into the DB.

When defining a sequence generator in JPA you also have the ability to configure a preallocationSize that should match the DB sequence's increment.
Here is a simple example:

How to determine the system color and set them for my app?

I'd like to set the colors of my application to the system's colors. Especially the backgrounds of my JPanels, JButtons and so on should look like in the operating system. If you change the systems color scheme, my application looks really wierd with it's grey canvas an components and the border and menu of the window is displayed in the system's colors.

koemActually, the truth is quite the opposite, the UIManager only has control over swing components.
There are many ways you can set these globally. You can sublcass your own look and feel, use the system look and feel, call UIDefaults.put() etc.

How do I set MacBook to an external display when the plug and play doesn't recognize it? I am trying to set my Samsung 530 LCD as a monitor but HDMI and VGA cords (and the adaptor for them) doesn't seem to work.

I have tried everything I can find on line but they all claim that the plug and play works, and they don't for me. I tried the mini dvi to HDMI and a HDMI cord and that was not recognized no matter which unit I rebooted first. I found someone who said that my Macbook might be too old for the HDMI technology so I returned the cords and went to the VGA cord and adaptor.

I contacted Samsung support and they said I needed to set the display settings to external display on the mac. I went to the display settings and moved the icon to my status bar. When I click on search for displays or whatever it says (I'm not at my Mac right now) it does nothing.
What am I missing?

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system. The TV says "No signal. Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection." I do not need two e-mail accounts It should have read that when you are setting up an e-mail address use the one that you first signed up with. Not after you go through all the set ups for I cloud it tells you at the end to use your account that you first started with. Can you please help me I am new at this and I still can not set up on my computer with my phone to I cloud so if I had my phone stollen I can find it I also have and I pad to set up yet It is 3 days and I still can not set it up

If you selected open a new Apple ID account, go back a step and enter use existing Apple ID.
You will have to set up a separate iCloud account or your iPads will mirror each other.

They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.

me.com accounts can be used for iCloud. See the FAQ section in:
