Ejecting ipod shuffle

i cant eject my ipod shuffle as it keeps saying that the data is in use by other applications???? How can i eject it safely as orange light is flashing continuously?

I do. does that make a difference for this problem?

Error Message Cannot eject ipod shuffle

Hi. I would appreciate any help possible. I just received an ipod shuffle as a gift. I cannot get it to play anything whatsoever. An error message I receive provides a possible clue to the problem, however. Whenever I try to eject the ipod shuffle, I receive an error message stating the ipod "cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." No application, other than iTunes, is running.

select ipod from the itunes source menu (on the lefthand side, w/ ipod icon). Click the Eject iPod button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window. when it has been succesfully disconnected you should get a msg that it is ok to disconnect on the itunes screen.
If it still appears, it is ok to disconnect, then simply reset it by turning it off, wait 5 seconds, and back on. This will save anything you may have on it.

Can't safely eject ipod shuffle

i connected my ipod shuffle to a computer, but it said i need i newer version of itunes.
i tried downloading the new version but i don't have the admin rights to install it on the computer.
the orange light is flashing and when i click to safely remove the hardware it says "'Apple ipod USB device' cannot be stopped right now. try again later"
is there anything i do to sort this out and what happens if i just unplug it?

The worst that can happen if you disconnect it is that it'll need to be restored.
btw, what's the "Other OS"?

Can't eject ipod shuffle. Says files in use by another system...what do do?

I can add files to my shuffle, but I get a continuously blinking orange light while it's plugged in to my computer. When I try to eject, I get the above message. All software is updated. I would like to restore at this point, but the instructions say to "click the summary button," which I don't see. Any ideas?

Thank you for contacting Apple support Communities. Did you by chance enable your iPod as a storage drive? That could also account for the flashing orange light.

When connected, in iTunes click on shuffle icon in Devices, then click on Settings tab. Scroll down and click the square in front of "Enable disk use", the adjust slider for amount of flash memory to reserve for data. Click Apply, and you're done!
When you use iPod shuffle as a disk, the status light on the front of iPod shuffle blinks orange continuously, and the iPod shuffle disk icon appears on the desktop on the Mac, or as the next available drive letter in Windows Explorer on a Windows PC. Drag files to and from iPod shuffle to copy them.
Ejecting iPod shuffle Important: If the iPod shuffle status light is blinking orange, you must eject iPod shuffle before disconnecting it from your computer. If you don’t eject iPod shuffle before disconnecting it, you could damage files on iPod shuffle.
To eject iPod shuffle:
Click the Eject (C ) button next to iPod shuffle in the iTunes Source list. If you’re using a Mac, you can also eject iPod shuffle by dragging the iPod shuffle icon on the desktop to the Trash.
If you’re using a Windows PC, you can eject iPod shuffle by clicking the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray and selecting your iPod shuffle.

The blinking orange status light indicates that the device is syncing with iTunes. Please see the following for more information:
Blinking orange indicates that the unit is syncing with iTunes or that disk use was enabled in iTunes. In this state, iPod shuffle may be charging or fully charged. Check the charge status icon next to the iPod shuffle in iTunes or eject iPod shuffle from iTunes but leave it connected to USB and determine if the status light changes to solid green or solid orange.

My iPod shuffle won't be safely ejected from my computer.

Some how my iPod shuffle's Enable Disk Use got enabled and my didn't know it and I just disconnected my iPod without safely ejecting it. Now everytime I take it out it says error. When I put it in the orange light on the front keeps blicking continuesly. I click safely remove hardware like the manual said but it wont stop so I can safely disconnect. My iPod shuffle has been like this for a week now and it is making me upset. If anyone has any idea how to help, please reply to this post. Thank you.

I suggest you restore your Shuffle using the following procedure: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300701. The latest iPod updater for the Shuffle is 2005-11-17. Once you have the Shuffle restored open, iTunes and, with the Shuffle plugged-in, click the Options button and make sure that "Enable disk use" is deselected.

Ipod shuffle cannot be ejected; in use of applications

Hi! I just purchased a second generation ipod shuffle for my nephew on his birthday and thought I would put some music on it for him to make use of it as soon as he opens it.
First problem is it keeps blinking orange.
Second, after downloading itunes, I plugged in the USB dock while the itunes window was on my screen, and it says "sync is complete" in the source pane. Nothing else will show, unless I try to eject the ipod and it will tell me it cannot eject because it contains files that are being used by other applications.
I'm trying to restore the ipod to the original settings, but am stuck.
Any advice before I have to give this to a 13 year old on Sunday?

I was able to get this error message today when I connected both of my nanos to my computer simultaneously (both were auto-syncing).
While the one ejected fine, the other one started having problems, and then I got this error when I tried to eject it through iTunes.
The only relatively basic method I found that cured this error was to just reset the iPod while it was connected to the computer.

For an iPod with a clickwheel:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times. (Make sure to leave it on the white side of the switch).
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
Your iPod should disappear from the iTunes Source List as the Apple logo appears on its screen, and it resets.
Then, is will soon go back to the Do Not Disconnect screen, appear in iTunes, and begin to sync.
Let the sync complete. And, if needed, eject your iPod through iTunes.
See if you can get past that error message - or do you still get it?

IPod Shuffle refuses to eject; won't stop syncing.

I have a 2nd Generation iPod Shuffle and a Windows 8 laptop.
My iPod is stuck in an infinite syncing loop. I can plug it in, and it'll sync with iTunes, but then even after it's finished syncing with iTunes, it still flashes as if it's syncing, and iTunes won't let me eject it because it says it's in use with another program--I can't imagine what.
It'll charge while it's flashing, but if I remove it without ejecting--which I have to, because it won't eject--the next time I plug it in, it won't flash OR charge, and the computer won't even recognize that it exists, although iTunes will still recognize it.
Then I have to restart the iPod Service on my laptop to get it to charge again, but doing so makes it flash again, and refuse to be ejected again, ad infinitum.
I don't know what could possibly be latching onto my iPod. I recently reset this laptop to factory defaults and the only thing I've installed since the rest are iTunes, GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), and Microsoft Office.
I guess it's not unusable, since it seems I can kind of get around it by resetting the iPod Service every single time, but that's kind of a pain.

It never stops syncing. I've been syning it for 6 hours and it hasn't finished with no sign of stopping. There are no errors and it doesn't have any messages of what it is syncing.

This is the last problem I am having with my Apple product. This is a brand new Ipod shuffle, to replace my first Ipod which broke, I have had so many problems getting it to work. Among other things I got error messages and had to reinstall ITunes which I couldn't do but finally succeeded after visiting this community. I am very annoyed right now. I need help! Thank you for helping me. There was no Ipod shuffle community in the menu so I went for Ipod Touch, sorry about that. In the end I ejected my Ipod Shuffle through my lap top, it works fine. When I clicked on the eject button I got a message that the device was being used by antoher device or something like that.
To use my new Ipod shuffle I had to restore the original settings and was able to build a playlist for the gym, that's all I need! Originally I wanted to use the voice over feature, I wanted my playlists from my Ipod nano to sync up to my new Apple device but that didn't work so... I am not a techie and having to reinstall, restore and the like irritates me.

As a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub (except for standard keyboard and mouse if normally used). If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power). Do this to reset the shuffle

Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer. Does this problem recur when the shuffle is the only USB device?
If it does (as another test), select the shuffle in iTunes, so that its Settings screen is showing. Check the box for Enable disk use, and Apply. Does that make any difference regarding this problem?

IPod Shuffle 4G no Sync-Problem: Ejects USB device

i got an iPod Shuffle (4. Gen) with some strange behavior.
I connect it to my laptop or pc (Windows 7) and then i try to sync music with iTunes.
It syncs about 30-150 songs and then i hear the "Eject-Sound" of usb devices
from Windows and i got an Error message from iTunes that "not all objects could
be transferred to the iPod. The iPod itself then is not listed in iTunes anymore.
If I then plug out the iPod and want to listen to the music which it should have been
transferred to the iPod it says: "Please use iTunes to sync music to this iPod"
Plugging it in again theres the windows dialog if i want to "check and repair this device"
Starting iTunes it says that all the space is free on the iPod.
Somethimes I hear the sound from windows for the eject usb media permanent
and cant copy anything to the ipod. I also tried "restore ipod" via iTunes several times
but without success, problems exists further.
I think, that perhaps the flash memory of the iPod is defective or something which
has to do with the transfer process.
I got another iPod (4. Gen) which works without any problems, with the same cable.
So it must be something wrong with this iPod.
The iPod is like 10 months old and in warranty.
Should i send it in to Apple? I think this is a hardware problem....

You've ruled out a bad cable, a bad USB port on computer, and a software problem on the computer, because your other shuffle works fine. And a Restore does not help. That pretty much says the cause is a hardware problem on the shuffle.
So, if it's under warranty, definitely have it checked by a tech before the year is up. If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can do so at the store's Genius Bar. You can make a reservation at the store's web page (not required but it may save you waiting time)

HT1477 How do you eject your ipod shuffle?

I've got a ipod shuffle and attached to my computer with a USB. I've Sync it, now it saids to eject. Eject what? The USB from computer or the adapter end to shuffle?

I have a similar problem ejecting my iPod Classic after syncing in iTunes on my MacBook Air. It tells me that "cannot be ejected because it contains files in use by another application". When I pull the usb out I get a message "disc not ejected properly" I know that Windows users also are having problems too. Some users say that closing Google Chrome solves the problem. I have tried that but it does not solve the problem on my MacBook Air.
Can anyone please tell me what the files are that are in use?

I get this error when I have a Windows Explorer window open that is browsing the iPod Shuffle disk drive. If you have that open, try closing it.
