EM upgrade woes

Hey all,
I am upgrading a standard GC 10.2.0.1 for Linux x86 without any modifications to the latest patch set 10.2.0.4 and have run into problems. All the configuration assistants complete successfully except the last one "Starting Oracle Management Server". This one seem to fail on the command:
oracle.sysman.emcp.oms.StartOMS -configureOms
But it doesn't tell me much about what is wrong. I checked the various logs and found out that I had http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_15/caching.1012/b14046/trouble.htm#CACHFJGD <-- this error. I seem to have fixed that one, but I still get a fail when retrying the assistant.

But I've checked around and it seems at least some of these errors are ignorable. The emoms.trc file shows the same info. The configToolFailedCommands file just contains the oracle.sysman.emcp.oms.StartOMS -configureOms command. The other logs seems to be fine.
I am a bit at a loss on what to search for or where to go from here. Anyone have any tips or pointers in the right direction? Is this command debuggable in any way so I can see what it's output may be? I can't seem to find it in a log, but I might have missed something.

DV9428NR hard drive upgrade woes

Why is it impossible to successfully and functionally change and upgrade the secondary HDD on the DV9428NR? I tried for two days, Geek Squad tried for two days and a local computer repair shop tried for two days to do a simple HDD upgrade on this particular model and nobody was sucessful. This is a bone stock laptop that has been repaired only at HP twice for the motherboard. It has two 120 GB HDD's. I was trying to upgrade the secondary drive (D:data) to a 320GB HDD. Is this a common issue and what are my options?

I'm sorry you're running into this upgrade issue. Are you getting error messages? If so, what do they say? Does the Windows reinstall get stuck at some point? Did you format both of the drives as dynamic rather than basic?

G4 and cs3 upgrade woes

Does anyone have any suggestions how i might get the cs3 upgrade loaded onto an older g4. it does not have a dvd drive, so i was wondering if there is a way to use our server at work to load it to my machine? i assume we could buy a cheap dvd player to download it,but not sure the easiest way.

Neil, they must think i will be surfing all day or something. i think the drive has about 50 gigs free. i honestly have looked at all the g4 specs shown on apples site and i still cant find this model. i was hoping to nail it down to figure which and how much ram i need. their idea of lots of ram is giving someone 5-700 megs of ram. the more i think about it, just to get photoshop to see 1 gig means i will need like 2 gigs. its so *** backwards,they give the layout dept g5s and i am doing pictures that are 10 times the size and i have this relic of a g4.
Any way to figure out ahead if i need toast,if i buy an external dvd drive?

CS6 upgrade woes

I'm in the same boat as others here--back and forth, jumping through hoops to get to the point where I could be ignored. It's been two weeks since I was informed by email that my paperwork was accepted and that I would get my serial number in 5-7 days (or a reason why I was being denied). It's been two weeks, my trial CS6 has VERY inconveniently expired as of yesterday, and still nothing.
I'd like to note that, like thousands of others I'm sure, we only bought CS5.5 a few weeks before the release of CS6 because Adobe made the generous offer of the free upgrade. We could have waited for the release and bought that, but we trusted that Adobe was making a fair bargain. We still expect the company to come through, but it has been a very frustrating experience.
Can anyone give me advice on the next step?
If there is an Adobe employee lurking about, my case number is #0208405682.
I'd appreciate any help to move this along--my daughter is in the middle of a school project using this software, and we'd really like to see Adobe uphold their end of this bargain.

I am trying very hard not to lose my cool over this whole issue, but I think I am now at my breaking point.
I, like every other "smart" cs5 owner saw an opportunity and jumped on it thinking and hoping the same things that Cole1881 was thinking.
Unfortunately as of today, almost 3 1/2 weeks later I am still without my upgrade.
In end July I had not heard anything from adobe concerning my upgrade (checking my email everyday twice a day at this point fully knowing the upgrade came out in May). I went to the FORUMS as the support had directed me to and read a post (man I wish I could find it) explaining that Adobe was being overloaded with serial requests and that everyone would have there’s shortly. So I took that as a "be quiet we'll get to you don't worry!” I waited a month. Trying to be patient... still no email.
Then, beginning of Sept, I decided enough is enough, I’ll go through the annoying task of sitting on the phone waiting to explain my missing code story to some overseas agent who won't be able to understand me fully anyway and we'll inevitably send me in the direction of "upper management" so they can handle the request and get me my missing email with the serial code.
I did this and not only was I in compete shock when they told me "you can't get your copy now you are past the redemption time" but I was dumbfounded when they didn’t get that I NEVER RECIEVED AN EMAIL TO TELL ME WHEN I COULD NO LONGER GET MY COPY! Then they proceeded to tell me that this issue was being forwarded to basically someone who could resolve the problem and that I would receive an email AND a phone call in 24-48hrs. I received nothing for 72hrs.
On the fourth day I decided to call again, it is now middle of Sept. and still no resolution or any respectful apology for them not sending me an email of my upgrade. I go through the motions again, this time explaining that I now never got an email or phone call. I am hoping this time the light bulb will click and someone will say, "oops our bad!" and finally send me my serial code. Nope. Just the same BS over and over. The best part, Prince, the customer service rep I was working with the second time around, said that he would "personally" make sure that someone emailed and called me back within 24-48hrs with a resolution to my issue. He even told me that if they don't call I could ask for him personally and speak with him again.
You can guess they never called or emailed. I called again TODAY, this time, was given a 1hr 30min run around (oh and I did ask for Price and the lady said, "we cannot do dat here, dunno who tod you dat but there is no way to do dat". Unbelievable). Also, during this time, while I was on the phone waiting to get connected to the upper management AGAIN I get my very first email from adobe. In broken English. ...saying "we cannot give you your code. We can only give you 25% off for a new cs6". You can imagine my face at that point. When they finally pick up, I tell my whole horrify story again, and he tells me all he can do it offer me 25% off. That is all. I cannot get my code. I have to buy a new cs6.
Way to go Adobe. You really know how to screw over valued customers. You are so luck you have a monopoly in this department because you must know your customer service SUCKS and people would ditch you asap.
Can someone, anyone, point me in a direction where I can get some actual help? I feel that I did absolutely nothing wrong and I’m being penalized for being an adobe user. My ticket number is #209129334.

More CS2- CC Upgrade Woes

When using CS2, I placed files from MSWord and the paragraph styles worked correctly - identically named styles were imported correctly. Since "upgrading" to CC, and using the same ID and Word templates, some of the styles now are modified when I place them in the ID document (i.e, have the + symbol in the styles list and use different fonts and/or spacing). I can reset them to the ID style with the Alt-click method, but it's a pain in the neck to do this over and over again. How can I fix this?

Well, it depends on what induced the overrides. I've found that, as Word and InDesign have respectively expanded their multilingual capabilities, that it's possible to define stuff in your Word files that CS2 ignored, that later versions won't. Like, for example, whether or not OpenType methods are used when determining diacritical distance from base glyphs in Arabic.
So your only choices are to either a) groom your Word styles really carefully, figuring out some way to remove the information that is causing the override, or b) finding a better method to clear the overrides. A) may require some VBA scripting ability, or other in-depth Word knowledge. B), however, can be really easy if your entire document is one long text flow. My workflow often features "select all, whack keyboard shortcut for Clear All Overrides." I assigned an easy shortcut because I Clear All Overrides all the time. There are other solutions out there - I recall seeing a clear-all-overrides script recently, for cases where the user doesn't necessarily thread every single text box without fail.

Iphoto 11 upgrade woes

upgraded to iphoto 11 and my photos lost their connections. I've read all about backing up the photos but i'm using iphoto from an external drive to keep my hard disk free. Does that count as a back up or will rebuilding it from there cause me to lose my photos? I have about 4 different iphoto accounts I was usuing on the external drive as I merged data from multiple computers a few years back. Prior to the upgrade I didn't have any photos on the iphoto on my computer. Everything is on the version on my hard drive. How do I fix this?

So, you're saying if I copy them onto another drive, then rebuild them, these broken links will be fixed?
No. A back up is a copy of whatever you got. If you have a damaged library making a copy will get you a second damaged library, it won't miraculously fix it. The point of backing up now is that you can at least get back to this point should your efforts to fix the library make things worse.
As for the core issue:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Upgrading woes.

I upgraded iTunes to 7.2 and got this message...
The file “iTunes Library.itl” does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. ITunes has created a new library and renamed this file to “iTunes Library (Damaged).itl
iTunes then opens with no music in it.
So I did the whole uninstall and reinstall older iTunes and keep having the same problem. I even tried upgrading to 7.3 with the same results.

OK, so I upgraded to the latest iTunes and got the same error. So I start importing my library folder by folder. I get to a certain point and the error comes back. I close iTunes, re-open it and only the first few folders worth of music are in it.
I walk away from the problem for a few days so I don't end up throwing the computer out the window. I try to open iTunes today and I get an error saying that iTunes won't open because there are missing files.
FWIW according to my Norton antivirus, there's no viruses on my computer.
Please help.

Upgrade Woes

Been steaming along quite happily on the infinity option 2 and took the offer of the upgrade to infinity two a few weeks back, over the last couple of days my net has slowed to way below what i was seeing on the old system so i went to bt's speedtest site, i found that my upstream profile has beeen changed to 20 meg but my downstream profile is still reading 37.5 meg, on the download test i got about 6meg download and 7 up, i would have expected my upstream profile to be now be showing 80/20?, on a download of a file i am getting around 500k over usenet where i would normally see 4 or 5mb downloads ever since i joined infinity.
Thought it was too good to be true, reported the fault yesterday and was told there was a line fault and an engineer would be in touch, so went to the fault tracking page on bt and it said the issue has now been resolved, it looks like they have not even looked at it as its no different today and i have had no contact from the engineers, mods can you help get some movement on this as i dont trust the support lines and the fault tracking is obviously useless.

Yoga 2 Pro Win10 Upgrade Woes

I updated my Yoga Pro 2 to windows 10 yesterday. The upgrade process went smooth. The first thing I noticed is that the laptop got really hot. I have owned this laptop for 1.5 years and it has never gotten this hot before. I reverted back to Win8.1 and immediately the temperature returned to normal. (In Win10 the battery also lasted mabe 2 hours if i was lucky, in win8.1 my battery lasts at least 5 hours). i also noticed that with nothing major running, the RAM usage was 60% of 4 GB. Compared to 30% in Win8.1. I tried to install win10 again, only this time I did a factory reset to delete all data and apps. I only installed the Lenovo Drivers and Chrome. This time RAM usage is OK, battery life is decent from what i can tell. But the Laptop still gets hot. It's not as bad as the first time, but it's still warmer than i am used too.I noticed that after I installed Lenovo Energy Meter, the computer started to get warm and I uninstalled it and it got better. But now the Yellow colour issue is back. Some questions I have:1) Did anyone else install Win10 onto their Yoga 2 Pro? Does it work ok?2) Do you notice it getter hotter than normal?3) Is my latop getting warmer due to windows being installed and it will get better once the install settles? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your keyboard had been setup as USEnglish and win10 changed it to UK/HongKongEnglish, You could manually change it back to US English if you wanted to. http://www-01.ibm.com/software/globalization/topics/keyboards/registry_index.html

Iphone post 2.0 upgrade woes

Hey gang. Anyone experiencing problems with their phone not working? I downloaded a photo form an email. Then deleted it. Now I still see the photo when I launch the photo file. When I touch the photo my screen goes blank. iphoto does not see the photo on my iphone when I sync. Plus my camera on the iphone won't open the aperture when I try to take a photo. The camera crashes back to the root screen.
I know we are all having difficulties with the transition, but has anyone had this problem yet?

I'm having a similar problem but with maps. Everytime I try to go to maps, the application just goes back to the home screen. I stopped in at an at&t store and they had no clue about it and told me to contact apple (that's not the quickest thing to do at this time). Does anyone have any clue what I need to do? I've reset, restored, etc but nothing. By the way, it's the original 8gb iphone upgraded to 2.0

10.8 upgrade woes - mysql is broken

Hello:
I upgraded to 10.8 and it broke PHP, Apache and MySQL. It was easy enough to re-enable PHP and Apache but MySQL is broken - clearly it can not find the existing installation I had previously (which does exist because I can see it with some my MySQL admin app).
I've tried updating the paths in PHP.ini so it will see the existing stuff but it has not worked - I would really like to use the same database before I give up and reinstall it (I do not want to lose the data).
Has anybody successfully been able to upgrade to 10.8 and utilize a previous installation of MySQL? And, how?

I found the answer - it's YES - thanks to Chris Tate-Davies. The above blog post is the clearest answer I've found to resolving this.
In addition to his quick terminal commands, I also needed to edit the default sock paths in the PHP.ini. The default is /var/mysql/mysql.sock and my setup was using /tmp/mysql.sock. Once I updated and rebooted Apache and MySQL things were good again.

MAC OSX 10.3 Upgrade Woes

Very top line reads:
some languages were not installed.
Some languages are not installed (i.e. Asian Language Support) as everytime I try to do a basic installation with those languages installed it fails out with errors from the Asian Language Support.
I can get a very base installation of MAC OS 10.3 installed, booted into the desktop, and update six of the applications from the auto updater. However, I cannot update the OS to 10.3.9.
I have been getting help from a nice Mac user, but he is even baffled at this point. So any insight to fixing this issue would help.
Yes I have ran Repair Disk, Verify Disk, Repair Permissions.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you ran Repair Disk in Disk Utility, did you notice whether the S.M.A.R.T Status (at the bottom of the main pane) read Verified? I am wondering if you are having issues with the HDD itself.
My suggestion that you make a good backup of everything you don't want to lose, then do a complete reformat, zero all data to spare out bad blocks, and re-install. Here's how:
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
Select language
Go to the Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
Select number of partition in pulldown menu above Volume diagram.
(Note: 1 partition is normally better for an internal HDD. External HDDs usually have more than one)
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
Select Erase tab
Select the a volume under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
Select on Security Options button.
Select Zero all data. (This process will map out bad blocks on your HDD. However, it could take several hours.)
Click OK.
Click Erase button
Quit Disk Utility.
Open installer and begin installation process.
Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Check box to install BSD subsystems.
Proceed with installation.
After installation computer will restart for setup.
After setup, reboot computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
Click Repair Disk Permissions.
Connect to Internet.
Download and install 10.3.9 Combo Update
Restart computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
Click Repair Disk Permissions.

I think I fixed my OS4 upgrade woes

I was having horrible problems with my fairly new 3G iPhone since I upgraded to OS4. Apps would take several seconds to launch; apps would crash. The last straw was when I tried to answer an important incoming phone call, and the "slide to unlock" ignored me!!!
Anyway, here is what I did:
1) Did a backup of the iPhone using iTunes
2) Did a restore of the iPhone (using the backup I made in step #1)
3) Did a reset ("Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings")
When the iPhone restarted, everything is fast again. The only thing I had to do was re-enter my wireless network settings.
I think I'm going to avoid the "Folders" feature of OS 4 (where you can arrange apps into "folders"). I'm not sure if that is what caused the problem, but I can live without it, and I don't want to take any chances. The iPhone is working great again.
Anyway, I hope this helps.

An update a few weeks on....
Taking everything out of folders did help. But over a period of days it reverted to its painfully slow response times. I have ended up having to look for another solution - more resets hard and softs, more trawling for solutions...
My phone has never resumed working with the same speed and reliability that it had before I "upgraded" to IOS4.
I am very unhappy that I was invited to update software which in fact has destroyed the proper functioning of the phone. That's 'destruction of property' in my book. I would be happy to do without whatever supposed benefits there are in IOS4 but now I find that Apple have done all they can to ensure that I cannot even revert back to the earlier system.
First they **-up by releasing and recommending installing an OS which can create problems in an iPhone 3G
Then they remove the files for the old OS so I can't even go back to what I had.
I want Apple to hold my hand and help me go back to the operating system I had before.
Not happy.

WRT54Gv2 v1.5 upgrade woes

Let me start by saying I got it to work luckily after about an hour of torture.
I had bought a stock WRT54Gv2 from BestBuy a few months ago and it worked fine for a while, but recently my packets would be dropped at random but only while connected through the router. Running ping -t 192.168.0.1 (my router's ip) would for the most part be <= 1ms but sometimes it would spike up to about 120ms or just not respond altogether whereas running ping -t google.com directly through the modem would give 32-70 ms with no packets lost.
So I figure I'd check for a firmware update. Fortunately, there was one (FW_WRT54G2V1.5_1.5.01.013_US_20091021.bin), but installing it was quite the pain. First I disabled the wireless radio on the router per the warning on the instructions and tried downloading/uploading the firmware with google chrome. Tried about 5 times and every time it would say Upgrade Failed after about 10 seconds.
I unplugged everything else from the router so it was just my laptop, the router and the patch cable. No change.
I redownloaded the firmware in internet explorer (old routers I used had problems with uploaded firmware from non internet explorer browsers (?)) and tried uploading again with the same result: failure.
I reset the router to factory defaults via the web interface, waited a few minutes and when I logged back into it, it brought me to a Maintenance Mode Firmware screen where I could upload firmware . Another 4 tries in internet explorer and it finally worked. The first 3 tries brought me to a screen where it said it can't access index.tri and the fourth said upgrade successful.
Simple, right?
Anyways its been a few hours now and it seems to be running fine.

Good to know that you were able to solve your problem. Since the firmware upgrade is completed i think it should work perfectly fine.

T43 Hard Drive Upgrade Woes...

I recently purchased a Fujitsu MHV2120AT 120GB HDD to replace the Toshiba 40GB HDD in my T43.
From the looks of things, this drive should be supported with a firmware update, avoiding the dreaded 2010 error at startup. "MHV2xxxAT" is listed as "supported in this update" on the firmware update page. Yet, when I run the firmware update utility, it tells me there's nothing to update.
Perhaps there's a way to manually update to the correct firmware without using the utility?
The HDD works. I've installed XP Pro SP3 on it and everything runs fine. But the error message is mildly annoying and I would like it to go away. And no, I have no interest in downgrading the BIOs to an ancient version to avoid the error message.
Also, what exactly is it that won't work if the HDD doesn't have the right firmware? The active protection system I'm guessing? I guess I can live without that if I must.

Personally, I've had absolutely zero luck updating firmware on any supposedly "supported" drive...
Regarding the date...I've had IBM-branded Hitachi drives with older production dates (2003/4) throw error on T43s although they shouldn't...I don't know what the catch is, but there's got to be one...
I've installed dozens of Fujitsu drives on T43s, no error incured, ever. Meanwhile, quite a few people have had the same experience as you...
