Email 2x size of attachment
When I check the size of a .mov file in the finder it is 10.7 MB. When I add the file to an email Mail says it is 20 MB and the smtp server rejects the file because it is over the limit. Why does the email double in size?
When an attachment to an e-mail is sent, is converted using a method called "base-64 encoding" into plain text (electronic mail doesn't handle binary, just text). Using that method, every 6 bytes of data in your file is represented as as string of 8 printable (human readable) characters. Additionally, and end-of-line character is added after the 80th character. There's also a little bit that goes before the attachment and after it to indicate that there's an attachment and where the attachment starts and ends.
The practical upshot is that an attachment is ALWAYS just a little more than 33% bigger than the file it was created from.
Given that, your 10.7M attachment would probably balloon to 15,400,000,000 bytes or so. If the attachment was included in-line (you drag-and-drop). I don't know where the rest of it comes from. The headers for the e-mail message aren't likely to exceed 2K, and the HTML in the message (if sending as rich text) is only likely to increase the size of the text part maybe 1K + 2x the amount of text you put in there (and, I take it you didn't include a megabyte of text).

There isn't an attachment size limit as such, the limit applies to the entire message including all attachments, which is 20 MB.
if you are using a mail application to send emails (ie not via a web browser) you may be subject to smaller limits imposed by your own ISP. -
I get a weekly email with a PDF attachment and when I open it it's to large to print and I know of no way to shrink or resize the doc. It's created in M/S excel. Can anymore assist....TX

Urgent: Sending an Email with Excel sheet attachment

I am preparing a report and has to send mail with excel sheet attachement. In report i am getting everything fine. But in the mail i am not getting the data, data is passing to the FM succesfully. But in the mail, excel is not having full data.

1. On Approval Of Quotation, Run Report.
2. Generate PDF.
3. Send an Email With PDF as attachment.
As i have gone through many forums for this topic, but creating a plugin code for generating Report PDF is not possible in CRM ONLINE.
So, What is the alternate way to do this..?

How to use UTL_SMTP to send email with existing file attachment
Hello! I am trying to create a pl/sql procedure that lets me send an email and include an existing file to a email address. So far, I found information on how to send a file and create an attachment with information I put in the procedure. This is NOT what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to send an email and include an attachment for a file that already exists. I need the pre-existing file to be sent to the email recipient.
This is how far I've gotten, but this only allows me to CREATE an attachment with the information I put in it from the procedure. I got it from the following site:

Hi all. I am currently using Thunderbird 24.4.0 so I don't know if newer version may have this feature.
On the main screen, I select several emails and right-click. There we will get "Forward as attachment" on the list. If we choose that, those emails will be put in attachment of a new email.
My question is, is there any way we can indeed put those emails as attachment but leave out the attachment of each respective email selected?
For example, I have 3 email:
Subject: one. with attachment 1.txt
Subject: two. with attachment 2.txt
Subject: three. with attachment 3.txt
I select those three with Ctrl+Click on my main Thunderbird screen. Then I right-click and choose "Forward as attachment". I will be brought into new email screen with those three email as attachment already but have their respective attachment brought along. While what I need is to attach those three email without 1.txt, 2.txt, and 3.txt. It is because the recipient of my email does not need those attachment. How can I get this done?
PS: Deleting or detaching the attachment on each respective email beforehand is not preferable.

I just got my new macbook pro retina display. I am using Mac mail and want to know how I can print an email without printing the attachement. Any suggestions and solutions would be appreciated.

But when I receive an email that has an attachment (shown by paperclip symbol) The email opens and shows the attachment(jpg picture) at the end of the email so when I go to print - the email pops up with the picture already opened inside the body of the email. Can not figure out why this happens in mac mail. when i used outlook in windows only email would show. in order to see attachment you had to click on paperclip and only then would the attachment (picture apprear).

My HP Officejet 8500a All-In-One forwards faxes (as a tiff file) to my iphone. Can only view/receive 1st page, embedded into email as a non-attachment. Iphone receives email(s) pdf attachments well. What can I do?

Why can I not attach a document to an email? Every time I want to send an email with a document attached to it, an error notice pops out. It tells me that the file is being used even when iall other programs are closed. How can I fix this issue?
Thanks Jeff, I was not aware that a template could be multi-page. (All the existing templates were 1 page)
But it worked, saving me some steps. When I was finished I renamed the document, and locked it.
Then tried to save it but could not because it was locked. I closed it, went to my Spread Sheet Folder ,
to find it, it was not there. The Finder could not find it either.
So I start over again.
I opened up Numbers and it showed my personal Numbers template folder, it contained both my new
original 4 page template and the vanished saved document!
I tried to delete the template containing these document data and could not - I had to go to the Library/Application Support/Numbers to physically remove it from this folder. Then I started over again. I Finally found out how to make it work: I can now "save as", and then lock, and it will go to place where I want it to be saved and locked.
The secret is: Click on the document title in the menu bar, and it opens up "Save as...", which works the same as in OS 10.4.11, and you can pick the place you want for saving. Once done that, you can then lock the document in the same pull down menu, and then close it.
I also found later that I can delete a template from its folder, by letting Numbers open the templates,
clicking on the one I want to remove, then go to the "Numbers Menu/File/Move to...", select "Desktop"
and from there the selected template can then be thrown into the Trash from there.
It appears now that the real fault of the Numbers software is that the "Save as" command is not available in the "Edit" or "File" pull-down menus, but hidden behind the title of the document. -

My wife wrote her resume. Wants to email it as an attachment only. But whenever it is received it comes as an attachment and as an open document in the body of the email. How do we stop the resume from opening in the body of the email?

I don't have any problem attaching just a MS Word file in Mail. My process is pretty simple....with a message open I click the attach icon (paperclip) at the top of the message, then navigate to where the file is located and select it. I make sure I have the cursor at the bottom of the new message below my signature line. FWIW I use MS Word 2011.
