Email client of choice?

As big drawback of being a guru I do not like using email much.
I think forums are more sorted, easily browseable and such...
Unfortunately few people (almost none actually) of important project (kernel, gcc, ...) agree with this idea so I need to overtake this dislike for email and email clients.
So, what is your email client of choice?
Here a little list of what I'd like:
- easy to configure (I do not want spend days for connecting to a smtp server)
- capable of doing some autosorting (from address, subject, ...)
- easy to backup the emails somewhat
- keyboard usable, I do not hate mouses. But I hate when a program force me to use the mouse for something trivial.
Well. you see.... I thank everyone for pieces of advice.

I have this in my .muttrc
set imap_user = '[email protected]'
set imap_pass = ''
set spoolfile = imaps://imap.gmail.com:993/INBOX
set folder = imaps://imap.gmail.com:993
set record="imaps://imap.gmail.com/[Gmail]/Sent Mail"
set postponed="imaps://imap.gmail.com/[Gmail]/Drafts"]
set mail_check=90
set timeout=15
And together with checkgmail I have a wonderful setup.
Mutt is extremely fast, very stable and beats all other maillapps in speed and usability.
I've tried them all and keeps returning to mutt

  • List of email clients/address books that will sync with palm desktop 6.2

Is there (and if not, I think there should be) a list somewhere of email clients whose address books will sync with a palm Treo (palm Desktop version 6.2)? I have been happily using various palm handhelds for about 6 years now and have been syncing the address book with Mozilla and now Thunderbird  for the last couple years. I currently have an m130, but it's time to upgrade to a "smart phone" as I'm tiering of carrying around two devices. Unfortunately, the Treo requires palm Desktop version 6.2 which is not compatible with the Thunderbird palm sync. I have had the idea that Outlook (which I've never used or been exposed to) will sync with palm, but something I read gave me the impression that I would need to buy some third party software to make that happen, plus the $110 they want for Outlook. I would like to think there are other choices for someone who just wants to sync their smart phone with their email client's address book. It seems that such syncing ability would be esential to palm's sales and that a listing of all such syncing possibilities would be extremely beneficial to sales, particularly for new sales to people aren't already insiders on this sort of topic. The lack of ability to sync with Thunderbird may just cause me to stick with my old m130 awhile longer and give up on the idea of a nice new smart phone.

Wow, thanks a bunch! You just saved me from a long, involved, and discouraging search for an alternative. I'm using WindowsXP, palm m130, palm desktop 4.1, Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 and Thunderbird's palm sync conduit palmsync-2.0.0.x-wsm .  I'm wanting to purchase a Treo 700 on ebay, but went to the palm site, clicked on the support link, then the Treo 700, then the downloads tab and it directed me to desktop 6.2, which made me believe I would have to use that to sync a treo 700.
I do wish that both palm and Thunderbird would talk more about the palm Thunderbird palm sync. Unless you're a real geek or very determined (I'm the later), you're not likely to find out that such capability exists. I can't believe I'm the only one out there who needs to have my email client address book contacts with me all the time, so there has to be others who are looking for this.
Next stop, ebay - I have a smart phone to buy.

  • Need to avoid Select Email Client dialog when submitting Acrobat X form

We are using Windows 7 / Office 2010 32-bit with Adobe Pro X, and have found that when creating a PDF from a Word 2010 document (via either print or convert or Word PDF or XPS), then using Acrobat to create a form from it, when we apply the action Submit a Form, the finished product presents users with a Select Email Client dialog.  The choices within the dialog are Desktop or Internet email.  We are using a direct email address, not a server location.  This happens even when NOT using the Distribute wizard.  Outlook is confirmed as the email choice in Adobe Preferences Internet Settings.  Anyone encounter this issue and have a fix or workaround?  We want the email to auto-create as it does in our XP / Acrobat 8 Pro environment without a dialog presentation.
Thanks for any and all thoughts!

Yes, you are right that is the way to go.  Thank you!
I have tested and am now using successfully:
    // Set email address
    var cToAddr = "%email.address%";
// Set the subject and body text for the e-mail message
    var cSubLine = "Survey Response";
    var cBody = "Message body text";
// Send the form data as a PDF attachment in an e-mail message
    this.mailDoc({bUI: false, cTo: cToAddr, cSubject: cSubLine, cMsg: cBody});

  • Link Won't Automatically Launch Email Client

We use an intranet application database for CRM (ColdFusion) via Safari (5.0.3). Our accounts include email addresses which, when selected, previously opened a New Message in the email client of user's choice (whether Mail or Entourage, etc.)
Some employees using iPads and iPhones were noting that Mail was not automatically launching when they selected an email address (appears as a hyperlink in the database). I began to investigate, and the links are not working (automatically launching a New Mail Message in the email client) on one of our MacMinis (10.4.11) either. The links to a New Messsage are working on some of our Macs (some 10.4.11, some 10.6.6), but not all.
In my playing around with settings, somehow I have made the links not work on my MacBook Pro (10.6.6)!
Here is the copied link (with inserts for security):
    https://www.[site].com/secure/customer/log_email.cfm?id=481&mailto=[name]@[domain].org
Again, this WAS working fine in Safari on my MacBook Pro, but it is not now. I should point out that the email links ARE working in Chrome BUT NOT FireFox or Safari.
I have changed my default email client in Mail, back and forth, to see if this would make a difference, but it has not.
The CRM provider has said they haven't changed anything on their end (and again, it is working for many of our Macs).
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
On the iPads and iPhones. Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset All Settings. Then restart the devices.
On the Mac for Safari. Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. See if made a difference. If not, try emptying the Safari cache from the Safari menu, Safari / Empty Cache or Command + Option + E.
Since you have changed the default Mail client several times, you may need to delete the com.apple.mail.plist file also from the user account: ~/Library/Preferences
Make sure to make note of all your Mail preferences first before delete that.plist file.

  • Adobe elements 11 Organizer.  Setting Outlook 2010 as email client.  (Windows 8 OS)

When I try to setup outlook 2010 as email client in the preferences Adobe services is the only option that will show up in the lookup list for selecting an email client.   Is there some kind of issue between Adobe organizer and Windows 8?

    MCOOK1155
Using my recently obtained Windows 8 64 bit, I have not been able to get Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer Share File Attachments or Photo Mail to work. From what I have read, Windows 8 has a problem with POP servers. But I suspect that what we are encountering goes beyond that.
At the onset, my only choice was Adobe Email Services for the Email client. After I installed Windows Live Mail 2011, I then had the choice for EMail Client of Windows Live Mail 2011 as well as Adobe Email client but neither solved the problem of no email generated.
    a. For Adobe Email Service, used three different email addresses, got valid verification codes for each, was told by the program that I was good to email, yet after the email was prepared, no email with send button was generated for emailing.
    b. I have looked at the system with two different anti-virus program...first McAfee and then Windows Defender.
    c. I have changed the send to email addresses.
    d. I have had no better luck using Windows 8 built in Mail app. In fact, my lack of success with the Photoshop Elements Photo mail feature and the Windows 8 built in Mail app was the reason for my looking for alternatives.
On a comparative note, when I use Photoshop Elements 11 in Windows 7 64 bit, I have the same problem with Adobe Email Service as the Email client. However, if Windows Live Mail 2011 is the Email client, no problems..email generated and sent successfully.
So based on my result, I would say that the answer to your question
"Is there some kind of issue between Adobe organizer and Windows 8?"
    is Yes.
If Photoshop Elements 11 support says there should be no problem with this feature in Windows 8, then I would also be interested in knowing the details of its use of the feature to get the expected Photo Mail and File Attachment results.

  • Having a problem selecting the Email Client

I recently installed Elements 12 and I want to send some pictures I have in my organizer as email attachments. I followed the directions from the tutorial video but when I get to where I select the Email Client the only choice I am given is Adobe Email Service. My computer runs Windows Vista and the tutorial shows Windows Mail as one of several choices that should pop up when I click on the arrow in the Email Client box. How do I get the Email Client box to display the options as indicated in the video so I can make the selection I want to use?

If you want to use Windows Mail as your eMail client then the first thing you need to do is to configure windows mail so that it can send and receive eMail from your eMail account.  If you are using Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail or the new Outlook.com (to replace Hotmail for new accounts) then the configuration would be easy because we can give you instructions here;  If you are using eMail from your ISP then you need to search for these instructions.  The instructions you need are for:
SMTP and POP servers and port numbers to be used and where SSL or no SSL
Hotmail/Outlook will configure automatically if you use Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail or Microsoft Outlook;  GMAIL and Yahoo details can be found online.
After doing this, you need to send a test message to yourself ideally to your other e-mail account or to somebody in your family who has an e-mail account.  The test is to ensure that everything is working as it should.
After this, PSE will be able to recognize this when you go back to sharing in PSE configurations.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best (or best for me) email client

I've just started using my new MacBook Pro with OS 10.4, graduating from a PB G4. And I'm looking for guidance on the best email client to use with it. I abandoned Mail ages ago, because it didn't handle HTML - has that changed?* I abandoned Entourage because it didn't allow bulk sends, so I've been using Thunderbird.
So I want an email client that will handle HTML, groups, and bulk sends. And I would like to centralise all my contacts on the Apple Address Book, so ideally I want the email client to read that for email addresses when I start entering a recipient.
    Suggestions please!
    * I tried to open Mail to look at it, but it asked if I want to import all my emails etc. As the answer is currently no, it won't load - a bit silly!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

"One negative to using the Mac Mail app in OSX is it doesn't
include a HTML composer like most of the others do."
Do you regularly need to insert your own HTML code within the body of a message?
If not, RTF with Tiger Mail is HTML but you must select a font via the font panel when composing a message and/or bold/underline selected text or change the color of all or selected text for the message to be sent as HTML.
Using Tiger's Safari, you can send a web page in its entirety via a Mail.app message. At the Safari menu bar, go to File and select Mail Contents of This Page. The web page will be copied to a new Mail.app message which will be sent in its entirety.
If you don't regularly need to insert your own HTML code but need to do so on occasion, you can use the HTML editor/composer of your choice (Apple's Text Edit application can be used for this) and save the complete HTML document. Open the saved document with Safari and after confirming the HTML layout is as desired, use Mail Contents of This Page.
Just thought I throw this in as an FYI.

  • Invoking web based email client using Email button

I have developed a form using Adobe LiveCycle designer 8 which has an email button. Right now, when the email button is clicked, the form is attached as PDF to the desktop based default email client, Novell or Outlook express.
Is it possible to have the users select a email client of their choice (Hotmail, GMail etc) as most of our users are general public and are unlikely to use desktop clients.
    Appreciate your help..

How do I add multiple email clients on my machine. I navigated to Tool->Options->Programs, in Internet Explorer and in the Email field, I have Hotmail, Novell, Outlook with Novell set as default. However, when I click Submit, it is not asking me to select the email client.
Another issue: I changed my default mail client to Hotmail, however, when I submit , the "To" address is populated but the pdf is not attached to the compose message window.
    Thanks for your prompt response.

  • How to use email submit button with webmail; not a desktop email client

We've made a form that will submit data via an xml attachment to an email. It was all tested as fine (using Adobe Reader 7...) and has been deployed - DISASTER.
People using Adobe Reader 8 cannot choose to save the xml file. AR 8 just opens up their default email client. If they use webmail and it's not on the list of default email clients (IE/Tools/Options/Programs)then we don't seem to be able to get the xml data out.
How can you get AR 8 to give you a choice of what to do with the xml data when a user clicks the Submit by email button? Just like the email client choice in AR 7!!!! Please, if anybody from Adobe sees this, help us...

Did you ever get a solution to this problem. I have several clients who use internet email and it always worked with earlier versions of reader because it would display the "Select Email Client pop up.
    Please let me know.

  • How can I use Thunderbird email client to send photos

    Hi,
I am having lots of problems trying to send photos PSE8 with Outlook Express and Outlook and really don't use either of them for regular email.  How can I edit the sharing "Choice" to allow Thunderbird?  Anything in the Registry to edit?  I don't want to reload XP, going back to an earlier install just to get Outlook back working.  Too many wondows updates to make sense of that.
And if it can't be done, when will Adobe PSE8 give us a patch to add more email client choices for their user base?
Thanks, appreciate any info you can provide.

Apologies. I should have said Ignore. I can't answer the question as it relates to an iPhone.

  • Will the email client on my MacBook Pro remove mail from my Exchange 2003 in order to receive it?

I just received my new MacBook Pro yesterday and I have an Exchange 2003 server that I would like to work with the email client. now I know some email clients in certain modes will download the mail from the mail server removing it from there at the same time. My question is will the email client remove the mail from the server in order to receive it? I want the mail to remain in the mailbox so I will still have it available at my office later. I am honestly not certain what version of OS X it is, and I don't have it handy, but I just bought it last week. Thanks!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    If that fails:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • URLRequest and navigateToURL to open email client but HTML email, not plain text???

I want users to click a button that uses URLRequest and navigateToURL to open the user's default email client with email body pre-populated with HTML email.
Even though I have tried to set the contentType property to one of the following, the HTML tags always display:
    application/xml
    application/html
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mailto: ?subject=Test Email&body=<h1>Test Body</h1>");request.contentType = "multipart/form-data";
    navigateToURL(request, "_self");
BTW, the above code is simplified, so I am using escape() on the subject and body text, etc.
So, is there any way to use mailto in this way to open the default email client and pre-populate with HTML email but not see the tags (BUT NOT REVERT TO PLAINTEXT)?

Jason, can I ask you: is it your assumption, or there is/was reliable polling showing that majority of users prefer manually go the mail server instead of using the mail client application of their choice - Outlook, FireBird, Mail, etc?

There are numerous reasons behind avoiding mailto links in relation to design. And it's been debated back and forth for years. Form vs Mailto link both have their pros and cons and intended usages.
After panelling groups of individuals for three seperate projects regarding various design perspectives in the RIAs we developed, it became quickly apparent that on numerous occasions users clicking a mailto link were unaware of what the resulting screen was actually for. Several had never set up the default mail client on their pc. Many thought that "Yahoo" was the only email service in the world... Now, with that said, the target demographic for those applcations may or may not be what his, yours, or anyone's project may be. The key there is going to be identifying your dedmographic and determining the tech prowness. Also, what exactly is the email's intended result? Refer a friend style? Might be better handled through a web form due to the possiblity of being able to properly track how many referrals were actually made. How many resulted in a visitor. Simply notifying admin that there is a problem on the site? Might be better to fire off a mailto.
Reliably sending a preformatted HTML email can only be guaranteed on the server side. Otherwise, you run into problems just like he is having here. Now, if the email is plain text, different story.
Again, it all comes down to identifying your usage and properly utilizng the available tools.

  • Verizon Email to MSN premium email client?

When I had Verizon DSL, I had no problems.   I switched to FiOS 2 weeks ago, and up until yesterday everything was fine, but all of a sudden, MSN email client(MSN Premium) keeps telling me that my username or password are incorrect.   I've checked the POP3 settings, and as far as I can see, they are correct.    In so far as nothing is changed from when I used it with DSL.   So, what's going on?   I would like help with this because I HATE the FiOS Yahoo experience!!!!   I would like to remove it and NOT take the AOL experience either.  But I don't see where that's possible.  The only option is to change to the AOL experience. I don't want either.

    hbic3,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with the email switch to FiOS from DSL. Unfortunately, Verizon no longer has MSN as an option for a Portal Experience. The current choices are Yahoo!, AOL, or no Portal Experience. Do you currently have Yahoo! as your portal experience? If so, your only option is to call into FiOS Tech support and request assistance getting switched over to the AOL experience, which doesn't require that you use AOL. THEN, you'll have no portal experience and will be able to proceed on through Verizon normally.
So, in short, IF you have the Yahoo! experience right now (as your post seems to imply), you will have to switch to the AOL experience through FiOS Tech Support. Call 1-800-Verizon and request change over. Once you have been successfully changed over to AOL (pretty quick and easy usually), you will just not use the AOL features. They really consist of having a Verizon connection to an AOL account.
    Hope this Helps,

  • Sending emails from preview with alternative email clients

Hi, I've got a problem. I've changed my standard email-client from Apple Mail to Unibox. And, of course, I changed the standard email client in the adjustments of Apple Mail too. So everything is working fine except one thing:
When I try to send a pdf-file from Apple preview.app as a mail, nothing happens. What can I do to tell Apple Preview to use my new Mail-client Unibox for sending mails?

    Hi, Kevin.
I understand your need to support sales leave-behinds from your DPS app, which is why I wrote that blog post in the first place.
The mailto: hyperlinking approach works well from a web browser, but the webkit overlay that we we get from iOS (that we use in DPS) is definitely not a browser. Browsers have special access to the local file system, where we would like to store PDFs to attach to email. The webkit overlay does not have this access, so we can't use the normal scheme of:
mailto:[email protected]?subject=my%20email%20message&body=see%20attachment&attachment="\\myhost\myfolder\myfile.p df" to pass the path to Mail.app.
This limitation means that you need to use some other method to provide access to that PDF. In my blog article (to which you refer), I provide a method to provide a form that would compose an email that contains a link to the PDF, which would need to be hosted somewhere the reader could access in their browser. An alternative to this approach would be to construct a server-side form that lets a validated user (sales rep?) select some files and send them to their customer. The email would need to be composed and sent from the server, and a quick Google search reveals whole pile of PHP examples of how to send email from a web form.
Frankly, for your use case of sales enablement, I believe that a server-side system is the better choice, because it would provide you with a way to manage that content outside of DPS, so you can update it without having to republish your .folios.
    Thanks,
    James
