Embedding a bean in a jsp  application

guy's
i am trying to use a bean in my jsp page ,but i dont know how to deploy my bean with my page ,so please tell me how to deploy my bean with my page step by step.
thanks
john

Put your bean / class into a package :
WEB-INF/classes/yourPackage/yourClass
Then in your jsp header
<jsp:useBean id="yBean" class="yourPackage.yourClass" scope="session">
To use the bean in jsp
yBean.getYourMethod();
Theres loads of stuff in these forums and on google if you get stuck......

  • Complete BI Beans JSP Application Issues

    Hi,
    I have few issues with using BI Beans in a JSP based web application
    1) I have created a new project of Complete BI JSP Application in Jdeveloper 10. When I run this application there are NULL Pointer exceptions logged on the console. But it doesnt effect the application and the application runs smoothly. Can any one suggest what is causing these NULL pointer exceptions.
    2) Secondly, I want to use my custom logging using log4j for this application, but since everything is done in jsp itself in this application, there is no scope of java classes for logging. Can anyone advise me what is the actual way of doing it.
    Regards,
    Vigo

    peter is right, Use the same driver version as that of your database. Copy the classes12.zip and nls_charset12.zip from database_home\jdbc dir to your application directory.
    Hope it works

    Hi beattris,
    No I dont close the rs and conn objects.
    The relevant method of my bean is :
    public void processQuery() throws Exception{
         try{
              Class.forName(getDrivername());
              conn = DriverManager.getConnection(getUrl(),getUsername(),getPassword());
              st = conn.createStatement();
              rs = st.executeQuery(getQuery());
              rsmd = rs.getMetaData();
              int columncount = rsmd.getColumnCount();
              int rowcount = 0;
              setCount(columncount);
              while(rs.next()){
                   rowcount++;
              setRowcnt(rowcount);
         }catch(Exception e){
              throw e;
    I did some searching on the internet for this error and found that it is tricky one and so far I havent found a way to correct it.
    The link i went to were:

    and

    Well, I hope I get some answers soon.
    Thanks.

  • Confirm Delete in a JSP Application

    Working in a JSP application I need to show a delete confirmation when the user clicks on the red button (delete) in JS Navigator Bar Web Bean.
    How delete works behind this button?
    Code that implements the delete confirmation (a custom web bean, for example) is well received.
    Thanks.

  • BEAN : Bean included in JSP Page

    Hi ,
    I had developed a web-application in that I had included a bean in a JSP code by using the following
    <jsp:useBean id="testbean" scope="session" class="path.test" />
    now the problem is some times when we click on that particular JSP page where this bean is included the screen instead of generating the jsp page it gives a complete path of the bean location as specified in the JSP ( i.e ) "path.test" .
    When I click the refresh button then the page get's loaded properly.
    This issue taken place rarely but it's very important to solve this and it happens in all the JSP pages wherever I had included a bean but only sometimes .
    Why so??? and help me to solve this problem
    Server: Apache  Tomcat 5.0
    thanks in advance

    You are absolutely correct. All your java classes should be in packages.
    I actually think its a java limitation introduced in Java 1.4 - they no longer allow access to the unnamed package.
    For full details check out: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4361575.html
    My suggestion: include all your beans in packages. Its not that hard is it?

  • Sharing a bean btwn two JSP's

    Hi all
    I have a bean that I want to use in two JSP's. When I use it the first time it works fine but for the second JSP it returns a NullPointerException. I have my scope as "application".
    In my JSP I am calling the bean as such:
    <jsp:useBean id="abc" scope="application" class="ABC" />
    <%
    ABC bean = (ABC)session.getAttribute("abc");
    %>
    Please assist me with this.
    Thanx

    I thought <jsp:useBean id="abc" scope="session" class="ABC" />and<%
    ABC abc = (ABC)session.getAttribute("abc");
    %>do the same thing...!!!!! Am I wrong..?
    Getting back to the problem. One reason, I can think about, causing a NullPointerException may be because the session attribute is not set previously. Do you have piece of code somewhere in the servlet or before which sets the attribute in the session.?
    Some thing like session.setAttribute("abc", new ABC());

  • Confuse..where are the java files(bean) related to JSP in Portal??

    Hi..
    Can anybody plz help me..
    I already deploy the new JPDK Jan 2003.
    It's works fine in the Portal.
    Just, i don't understand, where they put the java files(bean) related?
    For example..the Lottery (lotto.jsp)
    it called this bean..
    "<jsp:usebean id = "picker" class = "oracle.portal.sample.devguide.lottery.LottoPicker" scope = "page" />"
    but, when i searched in the Server, i cannot find this LottoPicker.java.....
    Pls help me, it is urgent..

    Hi,
    All the bean files are in samplev2.jar at %OC4J_HOME%/j2ee/home/applications/jpdk/jpdk/WEB-INF/lib. If you extract the zip you will see all the class files for samples in JPDK.
    btw, as per J2EE container specification, the default location for any java class file (i.e. '.class' files) is WEB-INF/lib (packaged as a jar) or inside WEB-INF/classes as individial class files (with their complete package structure)

  • Security in an jsp application using BIBeans

    Hi all,
    We are developing a system with BIB to access OLAP 9.2.0.5. We need to implement some access rules at database level, i.e. user 1 can read levels 1, 2 and 3 of a hierarchical dimension, but user 2 can only read level 3. We do not know how to pass this database rules to BI catalog user, or replace this BI user with database connection information, to have more than one different user connection accessing the system. Anyone can help me?
    thanks in advance,
    Alexandre Martins - Commit Consultores - Brazil

    We are developing a jsp application with TAG libraries
    Ex.:
    <orabi:BIThinSession id="BIThinSession1" configuration="/Project1BIConfig1.xml" >
    <orabi:Presentation id="untitled1_Presentation1" location="Presentation1" />
    </orabi:BIThinSession>
    <FORM name="BIForm">
    <!-- Insert your Business Intelligence tags here -->
    <orabi:Render targetId="untitled1_Presentation1" parentForm="BIForm" />
    <%-- The InsertHiddenFields tag adds state fields to the parent form tag --%>
    <orabi:InsertHiddenFields parentForm="BIForm" biThinSessionId="BIThinSession1" />
    </FORM>
    This application hás a login screen, where the user will pass his database username and password, which corresponds equally to a user of same name at the BI Beans catalog.
    Here is the moment that we face the Problem: We can not change the user to switch to the database user. The catalog user is switched by BIUser().
    Workarounds performed:
         1 – We created a ConnectionProvider class to establish the connection with the properties and another class - AuthenticationProvider - to pass parameters to the connection.
              Problem: Could not pass parameters to Application Authentication class. Tried to force application to connect to authentication or vice-versa to pass username that was informed at login screen but this does not work.
         Ex.: trying to set this classes at configuration file (.xml).
         User “ALEX” has database access (OLAP , MOLAP) and catalog access .
    public class AuthenticationProvider implements oracle.dss.security.AuthenticationProvider {
    public void authenticate(Hashtable properties) throws BISecurityException {
    properties.put(“user_name”, “ALEX”);
    properties.put(“password”, “ALEX_1”);
    public class ConnectionProvider implements oracle.dss.security.ConnectionProvider {
    public Object connect(Hashtable properties) throws BISecurityException {
    Connection conn = null;
    try {
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new OracleDriver());
    String sUSER = properties.get("user_name").toString();
    String sPW = properties.get("password").toString();
    String connStr = "";
    if(properties.get("jdbctype").equals("thin")) {
    connStr = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@" +
    properties.get("hostname") + ":" +
    properties.get("port") + ":" +
    properties.get("sid");
    conn = (Connection)DriverManager.getConnection(connStr, sUSER, sPW);
    catch(Throwable t) { throw new BISecurityException("Erro na conexão!", t); }
    return conn;
         2 – Tried to get configuration through session searching all the connections and changing user to desired connection (in this case “thin”, MM.MDM) and reconnecting or disconnecting and reconnecting again.
    At this point, debugged the database connection and could see that username actually changed, but when the program reached the open presentation TAG received an error because TAG could not understand the connection.
         Ex.: This is in between session TAG
    <orabi:BIThinSession id="BIThinSession1" configuration="/Project1BIConfig1.xml" >
    <%
    ManagerFactory mf = BIThinSession1.getManagerFactory();
    MetadataManager mdm = null;
    if (mf != null) {
    mdm = (MetadataManager) mf.lookupManager(
    ManagerFactory.METADATA_MANAGER, null, true);
    if (mdm != null) {
    try {
    int iAttachStatus = mdm.getAttachStatus();
    if ((iAttachStatus != MM.ATTACHED) &&
    (iAttachStatus != MM.ATTACHING))
    mdm.attach();
    Connection[] connectionArray = mdm.getConnections();
    if (connectionArray != null) {
    int count = connectionArray.length;
    for (int index = 0; index < count; index++) {
    String driverType = connectionArray[index].getDriverType();
    if ( (driverType != null) &&
    (driverType.equals(MM.MDM)) &&
    (connectionArray[index].isConnected()) ) {
    if(driverType.equals(MM.MDM)) {
    connectionArray[index].setUsername("ALEX");
    connectionArray[index].setPassword("ALEX_1");
    connectionArray[index].reconnect(connectionArray[index].getPropertyBag());
    catch (Exception ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace(); // just for demo purpose
    %>
    <orabi:Presentation id="untitled1_Presentation1" location="Presentation1" />
    </orabi:BIThinSession>

  • Running a BC4J JSP application for Oracle Lite on OC4J

    Hi,
    My BC4J JSP application is working with Oracle and Oracle Lite on Apache (Oracle 8i Personal Edition) and on Tomcat 3.2. The same BC4J's could be used from the BC4J Tester as well.
    But if I run the application on OC4J (standalone and embedded in JDeveloper 9i RC1 and RC2) using Oracle Lite, a Fatal Internal Error (or with JDK1.2 a NullPointerException) occurs.
    I think I found the reason:
    1. the Java Trigger in Oracle Lite and
    2. the Timestamp used in Oracle Lite instead of Date.
    My problem is, that I can't find any information about configuration of OC4J so that it could work with Oracle Lite as well as Apache and Tomcat.
    Claudia

    The tell tale sign that the application is communicating with the running cache server is the membership information that is logged. In your previous running of the example you would have "members=1" embedded in the logging. From the sounds of what you are doing, you'd expect this to be different as the application would be joining a running instance. Check out section 1.3 of this doc on the system you are using.

    You can use JDeveloper's Data Web Beans - these are data-aware controls for JSPs.
    Start by creating a JSP from scratch using the Business Components JSP application wizard. Instructions are in the online documentation, under:
    User Guides
    ->Developing Applications
    ->Developing Web Applications
    ->Creating a JSP application
    Or you can learn how to do this by stepping through the Business Components tutorial. The tutorial is also in the online documentation, under Tutorials and Sample Applications.
    Once you're more familiar with data-aware JSPs, you can customize a data-aware JSP or create your own from scratch. Instructions for customizing JSPs are also in the online documentation, following the instructions for creating a JSP.

  • Can Forms call ADF (JSP) applications of Jdeveloper?

    Hallo all, i created a JSP application to show Master-Detail page, Guages,Pivottable. Gantt charts in Jdeveloper using the ADF BC. I want to create a button in Forms that will call these application without dependency on Jdeveloper.Pls can anyone advice me step by step on the possibility. I tried useing the web.show_document package in Forms. it only works if the jdeveloper embedded server is running. But i dont want to have any dependency to jdeveloper at all.
    Is there any suggestions to doing this. pls help!!

    no chance.
    Forms is running in an Oracle Container 4 Java in the middle-tier. This Forms Service communicate via HTTP with the generic java applet locally in your browser. They communicate with some meta-data to show you the forms application in your browser. Your form runs in the application server.
    You can communicate via web.show_document with other URL's, but you cannot integrate them into forms.
    Here is a good example how you can interact from forms to ADF (thx 2 Wilfred)

  • Accessing user connected to my JSP application

    Does somebody know how can i access the informations of all my
    connected users at a given time in my JSP application with OC4J.
    I want to pick a user randomly in that pool and make him win a
    prize so that my users will want to come back frequently.
    I tought of a autonomous Java thread that can access those info
    of my users and pick someone ranomly at a given interval.
    Thanks

    You need to make sure that your users are logged in using one of
    the OC4J usermanagers. I am assuming you have already worked
    that one out.
    You will need a bean that collects all of the usernames, and
    then a method in the bean the randomly selects one. So the rub
    is, how do you get at the usernames?
    Depending on the usermanager, you would get the users with the
    method
    List users = usermanager.getUsers(0,usermanager.getUserCount());
    See the api on usermanager's
    http://www.orionserver.com/docs/api/index.html

  • Protect JSP application

    How can I protect a JSP application published on server client?
    How can I be sure that the client(supose he can and want to understand my JSP code),
    does not try to sell the app again?
    Thank you.

    You can't.
    Anyone who can read the files on the server could copy them to some other medium and sell them.
    It's the same as with any other software, there's a measure of trust needed between supplier and customer.
    You could use some form of hardware dependent key that is referenced from each bean or servlet you use and causes it to fail if invalid, but that would not protect your JSPs which are after all plain text files and can be easily edited (that's the big plus of JSP after all).
    If your relationship with your customers is so poor that you can't trust them with source code (which is what JSPs are effectively) you may be better off changing your business model to either get other customers or get your customers to pay you not just for the software but also for hosting it.

    Can anybody please help ?

    Your middle tier has the incorrect JDBC libraries installed. The documentation on the BI Beans section of OTN explains how to deploy a BI Beans app and how to include the correct JDBC files with the deployment:
    Setting up a separate OC4J instance in Oracle9i Application Server on Windows for BI Beans Deployment
    Setting up a separate OC4J instance in Oracle9i Application Server on Unix for BI Beans Deployment
    Deploying Applications to BEA WebLogic Server
    For example in the Windows documentation, the following steps are required:
    Log into the machine where you created the oc4j_bibeans instance. You must log in as the user who installed Oracle Application Server.
    Create a new directory named jdbc under new_oc4j_instance. This is the name you specified in the -Djava.ext.dirs option in step 2.
    Copy the JDBC driver files (classes12.jar, classes12dms.jar, and nls_charset12.jar) to this new directory. The correct source for these files differs, depending one which type of JDBC driver you are using.
    If you are using the Oracle JDBC Thin (Pure Java) driver, then copy the files from the $ORACLE_HOME\bibeans\jdbc\lib_92 directory in the BI Beans installation. Do not use the files that are installed with JDeveloper.
    If you are using the Oracle JDBC Thick (OCI) driver, then copy the files from the Oracle9i client or server installation. When you use the thick driver, the version of the JDBC driver files must match the version of the database client. The files are located in the $ORACLE_HOME\jdbc\lib directory, where $ORACLE_HOME is the Oracle Home for the database.
    Return to Oracle Enterprise Manager and click Application Server Instance.
    Select the oc4j_bibeans instance from the list and click Start. You are now ready to deploy your Oracle BI Beans 10g (9.0.4) application.
    Hope this helps
