Embedding DOC's and PDF's dynamically in Crystal Reports

Hi,
Is there a way to embedd PDF/word documents dynamically into the Crystal Reports. I do understand we can do that for Images using 'Graphic Lcoation' option but that feature wont work with word docs and Pdf's.
Please let me know if there is any 3rd party utility tool that makes it happen or Can it be coded using any codes like VB/C#/Java etc.
I have posted this question in Crystal reports as well. But I want to know if it is programatically possible using Java SDK or not.

I don't think you can embedd a pdf or word document in the crystal report. The only alternative I think of is:
add a text object to the report. Right click > Format Text > hyperlink tab > select Hyperlink type as a file and use browse to specify the pdf or word file on disk or network location the file you want to open. So it will open the pdf or word upon clicking the link.
This can be done at runtime only using Report Application Server SDK and not Crystal Reports for Java.

Adobe reader problem on viewing PDF file created by crystal report

I have a VB6 application to export the PDF file by using crystal report 9. However, when I viewed the PDF file under Adobe reader 8, I have a following message when I hit the page down key.
"An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly.
Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem."
After hit okay, this message will be gone and I can see the PDF file without problem. However, I don't have this issue when using Adobe reader 5 or 6 version.
If I crystal report 11 version to export the PDF, everything works fine also but our production machine can only use crystal report version 9, not 11.
Anyone have idea?? Thx!

Sounds as if there is a bug in the older version of Crystal reports.
If you are prevented from installing fixes for bugs, you may well be
stuck with the effect of the bug.

Permissions - Viewing PDF Instances of a Crystal Report

I have the following registered and installed products.
Crystal Server V1
Crystal Reports V1
I have a number of crystal reports setup to schedule to create a pdf output instance.
I am trying to allow specific Active Directory Groups access to view the PDF instances of the Crystal report. The users are only allowed access to view the PDF instance not the Crystal report. The users will view the pdf instance within InfoView.
Can someone please let me know the correct path, as I have been through the permissions and have set everything to allow and the report nor the pdf's show.

Does not look like you are using this in a .NET app at all(?). That being the case, you're in the wrong forum. And if this a high priority, having BOE you should have phone support. I suggest you contact support via phone. Else, you can create a case here;

Embedding .doc in a .pdf

I have Word 2007 and Adobe Reader 9. In my Word doc, I have an embedded .doc. When I pdf it, the link no longer works.
Any ideas? thanks

you're right...it's not a link, it's an icon, and by "not working" I mean when I click on it in the pdf, it doesn't go to the document - just nothing happens.
To create the PDF, I was in Word, and did "file>save as> pdf" ...perhaps this is Adobe Pro?? Sorry I don't know all the techie words...I'm new at this.
But apparently I'm on the wrong forum - I think I need to discuss this on the Adobe Acrobat Pro forum.

PDF Export Output in Crystal Reports Developer 10 vs. Crystal Reports Developer XI

Hi -- First post here, so forgive newbish behavior (at least for today)Quick question:Why does my output differ (margins and image size) for the same report exported to PDF via Crystal Reports Developer 10 vs. Crystal Reports Developer XI? It's the same report with the same data and same design. When XI is compared to 10, the output in XI seems to remove an extra 1/4-inch on the left, right, top, and bottom margins and makes my images shrink by about a factor of 25%.While not the end of the world, it would be nice to get an explanation as to why this happens.Thanks in advance,Amasis

How to set path of MS-Access databse file dynamically in crystal report

i have windows application and crystal reports and access database.when i connect crystal report to database through followingpath like
\\machinename\FolederName\AccessDBFile.mdb..here machine name is my machine name(i.e:PCNAMe).but when i will deploy this application on cliet machine then how i can set the path to crystal report with his machine name dynamically..or is
there any other provision to do this so that i can set it dynamically.

Adding the columns dynamically in crystal report

I am developing a application using asp.net and crystal report. In a report the column is created dynamically( ie, the report gets input from a sp which returns N no. of columns). Since i dont know the column name and no. of columns at design time i am not able to create the report. If any of you have any idea on adding the columns dynamically please send me the code or the link.

Problem creating a SQL command object and adding it to a Crystal report

I'm trying to add the following SQL command object with the following sql for MYSQL 5.1

This sql runs fine in the Query Browser of mysql and returns what I want.
When I try to add this SQL command to a new Crystal Report, (by right clicking in the sql editor and selecting Crystal Reports - Add to new Crystal Report), it locks up my Eclipses and it ends up not responding. If I just do a simple SELECT * FROM license it works fine.
The Eclipse I'm using is from the CR4E download page with the crystal plugin already installed.
Any help with this would be greatful, as I am not having much joy with this CR4E 2.0 with MySQL and may have to scrap it and go back creating reports in Apache POI.
Any help greatly received.

For tax description u can go ostt .
Evert tax have a taxcode , in inv4 check the tax entry by taking the refrence of a particualr docentry from oinv and then fetch the required data .in inv4 look for linenum field which is also in inv1 , link that two on docentry and linenum for particualr row item,I think u got little bit idea for that , Just try to start query , pls let us know if u face any issue in query .

Passing parameters dynamically to crystal report from oracle

I have a Crystal Report that is based on an Oracle Stored Procedure. This was created using Crystal Reports XI R2 and it is published on a Infoview environment.
There are 2 parameteres in an Oracle Stored Procedure, of which one parameter is Region which contains values like AP,GJ,HP,MP,TN. The report run daily at scheduled time in infoview and the output of the report for each region is passed and stored in that particular region folder for easy access to enduser. The other parameter is a refcursor.
Now my issue is i want to add new region value like KA. As i am new to crystal reports i am unable to understand how to do this also if possible can any one send me liknk which explains the procedure how to run a report that is based on an Oracle Stored Procedure.

Typically when you create the report this way the Store Procedure will query the table for values and present those in a drop down list in the report Prompts when viewing. Or if it's not interactive then simply typing in 'KA" into the parameter UI should/could return data.
So it all depends on how you have this configured and how it was set up in the CMC when the report was scheduled. The BOE Administrator may have manually added the filter for each state or it's part of the report itself and other than updating the table field values is all that is required.
So it's not clear what role you play in the Admin group of BOE but it appears to be fairly simple to do. If you are not the Administrator find out who is and that person can explain it to you also.
I'll move this post to the Business Objects Enterprise Forum for someone there to give you specific details.

Capturing and displaying user input in Crystal Reports

Hi all,
Iu2019m creating a crystal report with SAP as data-source and want to capture user input and display it on the report. I have defined parameters to capture the input and added them to the report header. I have then created formula fields to capture user input using the JOIN statement to accommodate multiple values. Everything works well when users enter values for all the parameters, but when they leave some blank I get an error message u201CParameter value is nullu201D.
Has anyone encountered this type of problem; Anyone knows how to resolve this?

Date Span - Validation for start and end date parameters in Crystal reports

Hi,
I am new here and am unsure if this is the right place to post this issue. If so, I apologize for that.
I am working on Crystal Reports 12 and don't know if it is possible; to validate the parameters - Start Date and End Date are within a specific span of time. For Eg. Start Date and End Date should be within 6 months or Start Date should be a future date.
Can we prompt that parameters entered are invalid and have users re-enter it?
I will really appreciate any help into this issue.

Hi,
Well, it is not possible to validate the date/datetime values in the prompt window, however there are other alternatives.
One of them is to create an Alert with the condition:
datediff("m",Minimum({?DateParameter}),Maximum({?DateParameter})) > 6
//This is to check if the start date and the end date are within 6 months
Another way of doing this is by displaying a message on the Report Header and suppressing all other sections if the date range values do not meet the condition.

You are in the right place for Crystal Reports and you may also want to look in the BI Forums.
A good place to start is the Help file for Crystal Reports Designer and download our sample reports. They don't use B1 as the data source but it will help to see how to use CR.
You need to specify specific questions and "how to's". Books have been written on how to use Crystal reports which is beyond the scope of this forum on one post.
