Embedding fonts and images for printing (press quality PDF)

I have a question about a document I have produced in InDesign that needs to go to the printers. They have told me to make sure it is a print ready document with all of the fonts and images embedded. When I convert an indd document for printing 'locally', I normally just use the Adobe PDF presets and select press quality. I thought ID works its magic and does everything required to make it print ready. Is there anything else I need to do regarding fonts and images to make the PDF ready for print?
Thanks
Mark

Thank you.
As to bleeds, the printers came back and said my pdf is okay but that yes, I need to set an extra bleed edge of minimum 3mm. Do I set this when converting to the print quality pdf or do I set this whilst working in the actual INDD document itself?
Is the bleed then on every page regardless of the content?
What are the steps for setting bleed and crop marks. Does that mean when I place an image for example on a page the image needs to hang slightly off the edges by 3mm or am I barking up the wrong tree?

  • Where can I define font and size for printing sourcecode

    Hi all,
I'm looking for the definitions to print sources. I find only the settings for the editor, but not for printing ?
    Can somebody help ?
    Thanks

    Hi all,
I'm looking for the definitions to print sources. I find only the settings for the editor, but not for printing ?In JDeveloper 9.0.3 go to Tools -> Preferences. Look under Code Editor, and there is a page for Printing.
I don't think these options were exposed in 9.0.2, but they are in the 9.0.3 preview release.
    Hope this helps,
    Rob

  • When Patch for embedded fonts and Lion OSX to be released?

Was reading through the thread about the problem with embedded fonts and Lion OSX and a patch being released the 3rd week of August. Does anyone know about the patch being released?

This patch was released as 11.5.9 a couple of weeks ago. See this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/895280?tstart=0
You should be able to get it through the Help / Check for Updates menu - but I would definitely be aware that it seems to have created a couple of new issues for some users (documented in other forum posts at forums.adobe.com).

Not sure what you mean by that: is that URL in an image, or is it actual text?
If it is in an image, then you need to extract the image, edit it with something like Photoshop, then add it back to the PDF.
If the URL is actual text, I suggest that you remove the entire URL, then add the corrected link.

  • BLEED:  How can I tell it's embedded in my Press Quality PDF?

When saving a Press Quality PDF from an Indesign document, I then open the PDF document but can't figure out how to tell if my bleed is there.  The document view is only the actual trim size.  I've looked at all the menu options but can't figure it out.  I don't want to send it to the printer without verifying it's there.  Thanks,
    Jim.

Thank you!  My printer requested that I include 1/8" bleed for my book.  Now he'll get it.  Printing is a world of it's own.  Seems kind of complicated to me at times.
Thanks again.  You were a great help.
    Jim.

  • Iweb 08 loosing fonts and images

I built my website and uploaded (published) from my laptop. I have begun to lose fonts and images associated with the website as each page comes up with these error messages. A search reveals that the files are still on my computer. Is there a logical explanation for this. Better yet, is there a fix?
    Please advise.

The original iWeb turned all of your text into graphic images. That had the advantage that the person viewing the site did not need to have any of the fancy fonts you used to make an attractive web page. It also had the disadvantage of making your site a lot bigger and slower loading, and a lot less adaptable to different screen sizes.
The new iWeb 08 still uses graphic images if you make a shape with the shape tool and type your text into it. But if you use a text box it now puts real text on your site. As a result my site is now about a tenth as big as it used to be, and my friends who still have dial-up internet can use it. (If you want a really small site, avoid the themes that use an image for the background.)
The down side is exactly what you discovered. If you view the site from a computer that is missing a font you used in iWeb, the browser will substitute some other font that is a completely different size, and you end up with text overlapping other text and other ugliness.
My solution was to change all my fonts to either Verdana or Comic Sans MS. Every Windows computer has them, and so do most Macs. Text spacing for Mac and PC is close enough that if you leave a little space inside and around your text boxes they look fine.
I'm surprised that there was font substitution if you were running Mac Firefox on the same computer where you used Safari. Of course if it's a different computer it's doing exactly what I would expect.

  • Upsizing Images For Print Via Aperture

    Hello
What is Aperture like for upsizing an image for printing greater than 16x11"? I need to output an image for print 36x24". Has anyone done this and if so, what were the results like? Should it be done using other third party software(Photoshop)?
The image is full resolution from a 12MP camera.
    Thanks

I print pretty big images (up to 60 inches by 36 inches - > 1gb) and I use Photozoom to upsize and then print in PS.
    My workflow is:-
    1. Import and basic wok in Ap
    2. Specialist work in PS - save back to Ap
    3. Export as TIF and upsize in Photozoom
    4. Save big image outside Ap (smaller, origimal image - my negative - is still in Ap)
    5. Open big image in PS - reduxe noise, sharpen etc amd print
    6. Save back to HD or delete - I always have 'negative' in Ap
    Hope it helps....

Why are the graphics/page in facebook suddenly smaller font and images? Is not happening in IE and screen resolution is correct.

I heard back from Nike+ support and they said that there will be newer pics soon and it also appears that this corrected itself for my runs, but not the user pic, I only get girly options, I wouldn't mind a picture of a guy on 'ROIDS!!! Just kidding, but something less feminine or cartoon like, I'm trying to be serious about this and the site should reflect that.

  • Fonts and Colors for Sub-Tabs

Does anyone know of a way that I can specifiy fonts and colors
for sub-tabs. I have a second row of tabs (sub-tabs) on one of
my pages and I can't seem to find where I can set the font and
colors for the sub-tabs. Also, the sub-tabs do not inherit the
same font and color as the main tabs.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, What I can tell you is that you can either edit the page and
hit the style tab then edit the current style(the one you are
currently using in your page) and change all the banners tabs
(active and inactive) the background color, background image,
etc, I believe the second tab row and any others are by default
the same as the first row.

  • Why are the colors (red mostly) in my Press Quality PDF file darker than Original AI file?

    Hi,
I am new to CS5 and have been doing a lot of researching and testing saving AI CS5 files in "Press Quality" PDF format.  When I preview the PDF files in MAC's Preview application (will get Acrobat Reader as well) everything looks nice and crisp, but the colors are a bit on the dark side compared to my original AI files, namely the burgundy.  Needless to say, I am only using CMYK and the resolution has been set to High.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi again John,
Now I am sitting in front of the right computer and I just checked the CMYK profile in AI and it says: North America Prepress 2.  I found the following tutorial on the internet and this guy says that it is best to use a CMYK profile called BEST WORKFLOW which is supposed to accurately display colors across all platforms.  In the tutorial, he also added that if you do not see this profile listed then you should Load (directly from the CMYK profile window) it from your computer.  However, I was unable to locate this profile on my MAC and since this tutorial is based on AI CS2, I am unsure if I can use it.

Which CMYK profile would you recommend that I use?

  • How to Give an Image for Print and Not Web

So, I have designed a logo for a web site and the site owner wants it for a business card and letterhead.  Saving an image for web is easy and I understand all that but how do I prepare a file for a printer?  I'm guessing this is just nipping in to the local print shop on the high street.
Sorry for the basic question and I'd be as happy with a link to a tutorial as with the answer!
    Thanks
    Martin

Saving an image for web is easy...
...Which is why your workflow is backward. Design for print first; repurpose for web. Not the other way 'round.
Proper advice on preparing the artwork for press is dependent upon specifics of the artwork and the printing parameters. You haven't provided any specifics at all. So your question amounts to asking someone to write you a manual on how to prepare artwork for presswork in an online forum post.
Do a Google search for "preparing artwork for offset printing" or some such.

  • Help! My 300 dpi images are printing low quality!

I've purchased print-ready images (300 dpi) from an extremely well-known stockphoto website to use in a brochure I'm creating.  On the brochure cover (which is 8.5" x 5.5"), I have placed 14 of these print-ready images.  (FYI-all of these print-ready images are pictures of people smiling while doing various activities.)
As you can imagine, I have had to reduce the scale of each of these print-ready images to approximately 1" x 0.7" to fit on the page.  The layout itself looks really nice, but when I attempt to create a .pdf using the "Print Booklet" option, all of my images look horrible!  I've also attempted to create a .pdf using the "Export" function and selecting "Press Quality" and my images are slightly better, but still look horrible!
I have also re-scaled the images in Photoshop (leaving them at 300 dpi) and created a .tiff file, but no matter what I do (and I've been wrestling with this single problem for DAYS), I can't get these images to actually appear clearly on a printed page.  When I forwarded my brochure (in .indd, .pdf, and .eps formats) to a professional printing company, they came back to me telling me to use print-ready images.
I've been working with print-ready images for well over a year and have sent multiple jobs to professional printers and this is the first time I've ever had a problem with images looking like they aren't print-ready.  Could it be that you can only reduce the size of an image so much?  Has anybody had this problem before???
Thanks in advance for your input!

Thanks for the comments thus far! I forgot to mention that all of my images are .jpegs (300dpi).
I've reviewed my "Print Booklet" settings and under my "Images- Send Data,"  I have "All" selected as opposed to "Optimized Subsampling."  My Effective Resolution is also set at 300 dpi.
I'm still working, and am open to more suggestions.
    Thanks!
