Embedding questions

Being new to Flash, I have a few questions about something
basic. I used to think that swf files were embedded into html with
<embed> tags. But, apparently, there is a need for javascript
to embed the swf.
1) Why is it that simple <embed> tags load a swf fine
in firefox, yet IE blocks them (and calls them "ActiveX")?
2) It seems that the javascript (AC_RunActiveContent.js)
simply adds <embed> tags dynamically. So, why does IE accept
the tags when javascript inserts them?
3) What is the best way to embed a swf?

>> 1) Why is it that simple <embed> tags load a

One more thing. There's no need for JavaScript to embed
anything. IE uses
the <object> tag, FF uses the <embed> tag. That's
why you'd normally see
both. The JS solution simply lets you easily embed for either
browser, and
takes care of the lame eolas problem that is an issue with
IE.

  • Font Embedding Question in PDF exported from PageMaker v7

I am having difficulty embedding the majority of my fonts in PDFs exported from PageMaker v7. When exporting to PDFs, a "cannot embed font" error is generated.
    Technical Details:
The fonts I have are ALL LEGAL, and were purchased with complete licenses when required.
The fonts properties show them to be completely embedable, with no restrictions in terms of installation, etc.
The fonts can be placed and embedded in PDFs from all other programs I've attempted this with (Illustrator, Acrobat, MSWord, WordPerfect, etc.).
    Disclaimer:
Yes, I know PageMaker is old, and yes, I am in the process of upgrading to Creative Sutie (although, as an aside, it is extremely disappointing that even a token discount is not offered to those who have purchased every Adobe and MacroMedia software package in the past, but I digress...). However, several of my clients require PageMaker files (for a variety of reasons I won't go into here).
Thank you in advance for any advice on what might be the underlying problem.

When generating PDF output from Pagemaker, I've used 2 methods:
    1. File>Export>PDF
This method works fine for a limited number of fonts (AGaramond for example), which is why I started this post. Bob Levine had suggested using Distiller instead.
    2. File>Printer Styles>Acrobat
I usually used this method when an offset printer requires crop marks, since the other method does not provide an option for crop marks.
This opens a window with numerous options, the pertinent ones to my question are:
Printer: New 2002 PPD for Adobe PS Driver on file
    PPD: Adobe PDF 3015.102
    Postscript: Download Fonts (3 options):
         None
         True Type and Type 1
         True Type Only
When I choose download "True Type and Type 1", I get the same "cannot embed font" error if I use most of my fonts (with the exception of a few that work).
When I choose NONE for the option, the PS file is generated without errors.
Once the .ps file is generated, I then use Distiller 4 to open the file and output PDF file.
If I used "True Type and Type 1" for download font option, and the font does not generate an error, the PDF file is fine.
If I used "NONE" for download font option, when I open the PDF, it indicates that the fonts are embedded. However, since I do not download the font, I am nervous that this might cause problems when I go to an offset printer.
I do not print to a file using a printer driver (for example Linotype, Acrobat, etc.). The 2 processes I've used seem to be independent of what the default printer is on the operating system (XP).
    Thanks!

  • Customization and embedding questions

    Hi guys!
I am trying to make a page that will show all my movies. I thought using the Podcast set up would work well, however, I see that at the bottom of every post, there is a link that says, "listen..." I'm sharing movies! I want the link to say "watch..." Is there any way to customize this?
Also, my movies are big files. When I publish to a folder and upload to the web, I have to republish my big movies every time. I thought maybe it could work better if I have my movies elsewhere on the server and then embed them into my page. How can I do this in iweb?
Thanks so much for your help!

Keep in mind that .mac doesn't give you very much transfer volume per month and having a number of big movie files would eat it up fairly quickly if a lot of people watch them. One alternative would be to post your movies on google movie and use the code to embed them into your iweb page. I personally have not done this, but I have put videos from youtube on and it works great and saves you the transfer volume. Another thing you can do is use the movie page, highlight the movie box and copy it to make another movie box. To copy highlight the movie box click apple+c and then paste apple+p. This way you can make as many movie players on one page. Good luck

  • Wipe Hard Drive clean install of Window Server

What is the best way to wipe Hard Drive? Save a partition for later use and use remaining partition to install Sever OS, save to external drive(to use later) and wipe completely(cleanest install, I believe), complete wipe completely not worrying about
    saving anything, or suggestions?
NOTE; The machine has never been turned on, still in the box.  Hardware goes above and beyond Min. Requirements for software.
Which is the best way to install Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Evaluation download - ISO image? Azure?

How to install Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials from Azure? (Don't have Azure account)

There are a lot of embedded questions here, I'll try to hit them all:
    1) If you're reinstalling on the same partition, you do not need to be too crazy in how it gets formatted.  There's no performance gain to using BCWipe or anything.  When you format, you're just erasing the table of contents, then overwriting the
actual data later on anyway.  Just keep it simple.
    2) If you want to save the data, just copy it somewhere else before you delete anything.  If you're not concerned about the data, don't worry about it, just go back to answer #1.
    3) You can download the Evaluation OS from the MS website.  You cannot turn an eval copy into a full install without reinstalling, so are you sure that is what you want?  You'll end up test building, then when you like it, you'll have to do it
    all over again.
    4) ISO to DVD or USB: Doesn't matter how you end up installing it.  Today's machines can usually support any install media.  Some ways are faster, but you're only talking about saving minutes.  What does it really matter?

  • Install Image Missing from List

I am trying to deploy Windows Embedded Standard 7 from our WDS server, built on Windows Server 2008 R2.  I've added the install.wim file from the WES7 DVD, and I can see it listed under Install Images in the WDS control panel, but it doesn't appear
as an option on the client computer when I boot into PXE.  I've also tried restarting the WDS service, as well as the
WDSUTIL /Update-ServerFiles command, to no avail.
Searches have given me 3 possible causes, all of which have been ruled out:
Wrong Architecture - I have tried both x86 and x64 client machines, and other x86 images are showing up and installing fine
File permissions - I have double-checked that users have write access to the folder holding the WIM files - again, other images in the same folder work fine.
HAL mismatch - the WES7 image has the same HAL type (acpiapic) as other images that are working.
Is there something I'm missing here?  I'm using the boot.wim from the standard Windows 7 install DVD - does this make a difference?

  • Completion in LMS

I am using Captivate 3 to create e-learning, and up until now
I was using my LMS to mark items complete once launched. This was
OK, but I don't want my users to know that all they have to do is
launch the content in the LMS and it will mark complete.
I have now embedded questions into my latest Captivate
project and would like Captivate to tell the LMS when to mark the
module complete. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this. I am
fairly familiar with publishing in Captivate 3, but not sure what I
    am missing.
Does anyone know how to make Captivate tell the LMS when to
    mark a project complete?

You need to publish your content with reporting enabled in
    the Quiz properties.
Choose the LMS option in Captivate that matches the reporting
capabilities of your LMS (typically SCORM or AICC). Then, configure
your LMS as needed to work with the reporting method you chose.
At a minimum, you'll need to add a scored interaction at the
beginning and at the end of each Captivate file. They can each be a
"Continue" button with a score of 0 (zero), if necessary. The idea
being that the first scored interaction tells the LMS that the
course has begun, and the last interaction tells the LMS they're
done (scored materials are assumed to be complete when the last
    scored interaction is complete).
You'll likely need to scour these forums for hints as you
encounter problems (and you will). Every LMS has it's own
    particular needs and quirks.
    Best of luck,
    John

  • MDT 2012 Capture not working right?

I am trying to capture an image of a computer that has been set up.
It is running Windows POS Embedded XP. Basically the computer has been setup with it's software and drivers and I want to push an image back to WDS so I can set up more machines.
I ran a test using a Sysprep Capture Task Sequence on a Windows 7 test machine. It pushed the image back with the software I installed however at the same time it looked like it installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 and my systems settings were all changed.
The only thing that remained the same were the applications I had installed.
I don't fully understand how the sysprep works. I thought that using this task sequence would just capture an image of the current setup, push it back and save it as a .wim file. Why do you need to select the OS as part of the sequence?
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Branching to multiple projects within a SCORM-compatible LMS

I'm close here, but I'm not quite getting what I want. Hopefully someone can point to the "easy" way to do this...
I am creating a single course that is composed of multiple Captivate 5 projects. The user is branched to different projects along the way based on the answers to embedded questions (such as passing/failing a pre-test). In the final project I have a post-test. That's the only one that needs to send a score to the LMS.
So let's simplify it for an example:
User enters in Module 1 and takes a pre-test.
If they pass with a certain score, they go to Module 3. If they fail, they go to Module 2.
If they're sent to Module 2, they go to Module 3 after they complete it.
In Module 3 they take a post-test and that score gets recorded.
Running this scenario on my desktop is easy. Putting it in a SCORM environment is taxing my brain.
Currently, I'm publishing each Module as its own SCO, keeping the Course ID and Title consistent between them.
I tried using the Multi-SCO Packager, but that results in entries in my LMS for Module 1, 2, and 3 separately. Not what I want.
I have tried moving the folders for Modules 2 and 3 to make them sub-folders of Module 1. That seems to work (I get one course entry point, for Module 1, and I exit with the correct score from Module 3), however in reviewing the LMS reports, this results in an artificially elevated "# of accesses" figure. The reason seems obvious: every time I load Module 1 it's one access, and then when I branch to Module 3, it's another access, because really I'm reloading the page with a new module and SCORM manifest, right? Plus I'm a little worried that this kind of gerry-rigging is going to break something.
I don't really want to use the Aggregator, because I don't want a TOC - they shouldn't have the ability to jump directly to Module 2, for example - but I tried it anyway. And I found that even if I can get it to flow the way I want to, I can't figure out how to package the Aggregated project into a SCORM Manifest.
There's got to be a way to do this. What am I missing? Is there something obvious I'm not considering?

The sequencing and navigation capabilities of SCORM 2004 are designed to work between shareable content objects (SCOs). Whether you publish to SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004, Captivate always publishes a course with exactly one SCO, and so doesn't make use of the SCORM sequencing and navigation capabilities. There are ways to implement branching in Captivate, but they're independent of the SCORM capabilities.
You may want to try RELOAD Editor (free) for a mainfest editor:
    http://www.reload.ac.uk/editor.html
Here's a tut on how to package multiple SCOs:
    http://captivatedev.com/2011/09/30/packaging-adobe-captivate-scos-into-one-course-using-re load-editor/
The tutorial doesn't speak directly to sequensing, but it does describe how to use RELOAD.  Your situation is a bit more complext than just sequential prerequisites.  You need conditional sequencing and that's done by specifying sequencing rules in your manifest:

  • Locally stored embedded QT movie (.mov) won't play (question mark icon)

Hello. I have the same problem on two different computers, both running Firefox 3.0.4 and Quicktime 7.5.5. In a web page with a quicktime movie embedded using the <object> element, if the page refers to a file on a local drive (for example, within the same folder as the html file), it will not display. I see the Quicktime logo with a question mark in it, sometimes after a fleeting glimpse of the video. If I put the same video in a remote location and change the data attribute to point to that remote URL, the file works as it should. I haven't noticed any problems playing Quicktime files on the web, in general (but I haven't looked around too much). The same code (with the movie file in a local folder) works fine in Internet Explorer, and I tested on a third machine with Firefox 2.0.0.2 and Quicktime 6.3, and it worked there. Any ideas? Thank you.

Well, thanks, that might explain it. So the reason I can simply click on the local file to open it in my browser and it invokes the Quicktime player just fine is because it's not an http request? And this might be a boneheaded question, but aren't most media files invoked on websites local to the html files in which they're embedded and referenced with a relative URL (like /media/movie.mov)? Or is it that because those files are residing on a server, the relative URL is translated into an absolute URL when a client submits an HTTP request?
I guess I'll look around at existing web pages that use the object element to call up media files and see how it's done (and if they work in my browser). Also, I'm new to this stuff, so sorry if my questions aren't making sense.

  • Code for Embedding Quicktime Movies in Web Pages-Question

I have been embedding QT movies in web pages for years. I used to use the embed and object tags, but due to the problems with the default settings of IE7, in regards to ActiveX, I recently changed to the javascript method.
I will paste sample code below, of how I use it, with the movie title change to sample: (of course I change the dimensions, depending on the movie size.)
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"><!--
    QT_WriteOBJECT('sample.mov', '644', '76','','controller','true','autoplay','true','showlogo','true','cache','false' ,'enablejavascript','true');
    // --></script>
and I put at the top of the page, right before </head>
    <script src="AC_QuickTime.js" language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"></script>
I forgot where I got this code. Perhaps from someone on this forum, or elsewhere. It seems to work with the default settings on most browsers.
I have a couple questions, however, regarding fine-tuning it a little more.
    1) If it takes a while for the movie to load, users who open my pages see a static Q QT icon. How would one make the icon flash, with flashing text that says "Loading", so that the user knows that the video is loading? (I have seen that on other sites, and don't know how to do that.)
2)As said the javascript works with most browser default settings, as most have javascript enabled by default. But what if a user does not have javascript enabled? Could the code sense that, and if non-existent, tell the user to enable javascript? Or, if javascript is disabled, could the embed and/or object tags be activated?
    3) The code above, that I got from someone, says "cache=false". That means that each time someone sees the movie, it has to be reloaded from the net, and not from the browser cache, correct? If so, why would one want it to be set that way? If it's a large movie, a user with a slower computer and/or internet connection would certainly prefer if it could play from the cache the next time, loading much faster. Is there any reason to prefer "cache=false"?
4)Is there any code that could be put in, to allow the user, if they prefer, to download the file,(perhaps with a right-click or CTRL-Click), instead of playing it in the browser?
Thank you very much in advance, to whomever can help with these code questions.

Thank you for your reply, Kirk,
1)Yes, I do have "fast start" enabled in my files, and they were made with QT Pro, newest version. So no, there is no "trouble with my files".
However, I would still like to have that flashing "Loading" icon when the file is loading, as I see on other sites. (And yes, even with "Fast Start" enabled, depending on the size of the file, the speed of the computer and internet connection, it can take a little time beforeit starts.) Anyone know how to create that flashing "Loading" icon, rather than just the static Q?
2)I just wondered if there was a way for the javascript to recognize if the user does not have javascript, and bring up a message if that is the case, telling the user they need to enable it to see the content. (As would happen if the user does not have the QT plugin installed.) Yes, I realize it would not work to include in the normal way the embed and object tags as well, I wondered if there was a way to invoke them only if the user doesn't have javascript. Perhaps impossible, but I thought I'd ask, in case someone knows of a way to do that.
4)Yes, I guess I could just put a separate direct text link to the movie file for downloading. I just wondered if there was a way to put that in the javascript, so that if someone right-clicks on the QT icon, they can download rather than view it, rather than use a separate link. That may also be impossible, but I thought I'd ask, and see if there is a way to do that.
Your question to me regarding dimensions--I forget which was the QT movie, that I took that sample from. Yes, I have some in unusual sizes. They are not normal movies. I don't have time to explain more now though, and that has no bearing on the questions I asked.
Once again, thanks for replying, and if you or someone else could help further with my questions, I would appreciate it very much.
    Have a nice day!

  • A year later...same question: How can I get a Pages document embedded ???

How can I get a Pages document embedded into an email? (so that the recipient sees it immediately and does NOT have to open a PDF). Although I know a PDF is universal and would allow anyone (mac or not) to open, read and see my business newsletter, I want it to be instantaneous for viewing. So, which leads me to a question I've kicked around for a year now on this discussion board. How do I turn a Pages doc into html for email purposes? If there isn't a way with Pages, How about with Word (the newest version) for Mac? Someone has to know this art, I receive emails like this all the time, probably from Apple! ha ha .

In Mail.app, single page PDF are directly readable so you may try to
print your page #1 in a PDF
    then
print your page #2 in a PDF
    and so on.

As Apple removed the export to html feature, I assume that it's no to reintroduce it one day

If you do an explain plan or set autotrace on against this update statement,
you'll find that the select operations are actually executed first by Oracle
    - I believe because of the nature of the transaction. Thus, no problem.

  • Embedded images replaced with blue square/question mark

    Guys,
Am new to Macs so it's probably user error however, I regularly receive mails with embedding images in them. On my PC I had they came in fine however on my new Mac all the images get stripped out of the e-mail and saved as attachments. This means all the image place holders in the mail show as small blue squares with a white question mark in them and doing quick look on the attachments shows the correct images!
Is there a config setting that stops mail stripping the images off as attachments when they're "in" an e-mail??
Hope someone can help as this is bugging me now!!
    Thanks,
    Mark

Don't know if this suggestion will help but..........
I experienced problems with attaching images to outgoing mail. When I did this with my new iMac (OSX 10.4.11) the attached files were replaced with a blue square containing a question mark.
I browsed various forums and found quite a few references to the same problem and I tried all the various 'fixes' to no avail.
Earlier today I called Apple's tech support and spoke with Mujahid. He went through the problem, established that it was 'system wide' on my iMac and then he suggested that I trash Mail (v2.1.2) and re-install Mail (only Mail) from the disks that came with my Mac. I followed his instructions and after a shut down/restart cycle, Mail now functions correctly. When I attach an image file to an outgoing email, the file no longer appears as a blue square with ? mark but as the original image.
I wonder if the same sort of fix might resolve the problems with Safari?
    Thanks to Mujahid.
    Regards.

  • Can't play embedded videos.  Shows large question mark where the video is.

Need some help. I'm not able to play any embedded videos and all I get is the big Q with a question mark over it. I've tried reinstalling and checked the permissions in the registry. The problem that I found is that in the QuickTime preferences, on the File Type menu, there is absolutely nothing in there, just a blank white space. Any suggestions?
    Much appreciated.
    Scott

Had the same problem; quicktime plugin would only work for administrative users not normal "limited" user. I temporarily promoted the user to administrator and the plugin worked fine. When I restored the user back to limited it still worked. I only had this problem on one computer so I don't really know the root cause. For reference, the computer was running Windows XP Pro, SP3, on a Windows Active Directory domain, using free Quicktime version 7.6.2.

  • Question on embedding

i have a client that we did a intro video for, for her website. We were using youtube but they pulled it saying it was promotional. Now she embedded quicktime player but she's freaked out because people get the "active x control" message. She wants it to autoplay when they reach the site. My question is, is this because she embedded quicktime wrong? Is there a workaround? Is that same message going to come up if she embedds Windows Media Player instead of quicktime? and if I have to convert the file from .mov to .wmv is there going to be loss of quality?
    Thanks,

I bet she viewing the video with windows IE. No, it not that it's embeded wrong, it's a IE thing that Microsoft implemented a while back.
Here's a free program that can generate the embed code correctly. (using javascript) It's under the option button to change the embed code to javascript. Just cut and paste the html code that this program generates and paste it into your web page.
