Embedding SWF in MS Excel and MS Access

I have a SWF (FLASH) file which accesses external XML data source. As per Flash Player's default settings, this file has to be made trusted in order for it to access the data.
When this SWF is embedded in MS Excel, I have the Flash Player Trust Settings coming up. But when the same file is embedded in MS Access , I do not have any issues/Settings and it can access the external data.
I would like to know the reason why MS Access prevents such issues while MS Excel does not?
This will be greatly helpful as I want to prevent such issues in MS Excel. Please help out on this.

But I require the data source to be in XML as the flash file needs to be refreshed with new data and XML is the only option for that. And the location of XML has to be hardcoded. It cannot be changed post development. Hence this current approach.

Problems Embedding swf In Site Built and "Sliced" From Photoshop CS5

Made a slide-show in Flash, and want to embed in new site that is being constructed. When using "Insert/Media/swf", or copying the code that came with the swf file, it "Splits up" the website in DW. It's like it gets cracked like a mirror. However, in the current website, which was not sliced up, and brought in to DW(Made from DW template), it simply embeds into the page and works perfectly. Not sure if this makes sense, but, it seems like I need to find a way to "Lock" all the slices or something. This is first website, as some may have guessed. Any help is appreciated.

Is this a public site? If it is can you provide a link, so that I could try?
Also, are you using AS2 or AS3?
You could anyway check the following:
Are all the security permissions given ? may be the page tries to load a local resouce instead of http and the swf is a network swf ? (just check the URL when you load the website on your computer - if its not http:// - you should be running it as http://)

as we all know the interface for accessing Captivate variables from embedded SWFs tends to change between Captivate versions. Shortly after it's release we upgraded to version 5.5, and I'm not succeeding in accessing the Captivate variables in my Flash/AS3 code the same way it was done in version 5.
How should I access the Captivate 5.5 variables (rdinfoCurrentSlide et al) from my SWFs?

Hi,
You can use system variable : cpInfoCurrentSlide to show the slide number.
So you can use text captions to display the value of the variable, the format for displaying the value stored in the variable is $$<system variable>$$. So for slide number use : $$cpInfoCurrentSlide$$, type this in the text caption and then check it in the preview.

Office 2010 & 2007 - Excel and Access File Locking Out On the Network With Multiple Users

An issue that's happening is that Excel and Access files are locking on the network. We're currently using Office 2007 and 2010.
Here are some different scenarios that are happening:
When opening the file it is locked out by “User X” which is the person that has the file locked out and no one else can open the file.
When opening the file it is locked out by “User Y” which is NOT the actual person, but is locked out by “User X” and no one else can access the file.
When opening the file it is locked out by “…another user” which is generic and no one else can access the file.
The two more common events are incident 1 and 2 with 3 happening the less common.
This message will continue until the sessions are closed through computer management on the file server.
The file server is running Windows Server 2003.
This does happen on both Windows XP and Windows 7 clients.
This does happen for users using Office 2007 and Office 2010.
There are two sets of Office 2010 Users when it comes to patches. Everyone has the most current patches with Office 2010 SP2 while anyone that has Microsoft Project 2010 is using all the current update before Office 2010 SP2.
All users that are using Office 2007 have all the current patches and service packs.
Another variable is that we have users that will leave a file open on the network for 3+ days and after a while it will lock the file out.
Also we have Shadow Copy that runs daily on the system which I'm not for sure if that impacts anything if a file is opening during that time.
Any ideas on how to mitigate the lock out issues would be appreciated.

Edit November 12, 2013: This issue can occur if and if not another person actually has the file open. If the person doesn't have the file open then there is a hung connection which needs to be disconnected by going to the Computer Management of the File
server.

I know that the description of the hotfix does not relate to the issue. The purpose is to install it for upgrading SMB related file.

If you have older versions of excel and word that previously ran under the Rosetta emulator (allows PowerPC code to run on Intel system), they will no longer work with Lion.
You can use the Apple programs Pages and Numbers to access the files. They can be bought and downloaded from the App store. NeoOffice is available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php which has Lion support. OpenOffice doesn't talk to Lion support, it's at http://www.openoffice.org/

Converting from Excel and saving embedded links

I'm using Microsoft Office Excel 2003, sp3 and Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional (7.0.9). I have some Excel pages that have embedded hyperlinks in them linking to other internal web pages. When I print to "Adobe PDF" it shows the links underlined, but they're not actual links, rather underlined text. I used to be able to do this but I'm not sure if a patch was applied that made this not work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why do audio tracks for embedded .swfs for Slide 14, 25 and 36 audio tracks auto play on Slide 1?

I have created a Captivate course with no audio.
Slide 14 in the course has an inserted .swf animation WITH audio (a demo with ‘Kate’s voice’).
Slide 25 in the course has an inserted .swf animation WITH audio.
Slide 36 in the course has an inserted .swf animation WITH audio.
These animations are ‘hidden’ in the slide 14, 25, 36 Properties, and are told to ‘show’ when user clicks a button on the slide.
When published to my hard drive, the course runs as it should, and the animations play correctly when user clicks the play button on slides 14, 25 and 36.
When published course is uploaded to a file server, the course runs as it should, and the animations play correctly when user clicks the play button on slides 14, 25 and 36.
When published course is uploaded to a web server, all 3 .swf animations show up for a split second, (plus 2 other small animated images) one after another, and then disappear, and then the audio of the 1st starts playing, 5 seconds later the audio of the 2nd starts playing, and 5 seconds later the audio of the 3rd starts playing.
The odd thing about this is that once the course is in the Internet Brower cache and the course is refreshed, the audio of the 3 embedded .swfs does not start playing on slide one, and the course works as it should.
Can you please tell me what to do to make the 3 .SWFs NOT execute when slide one of the course is opened?

Did you ever get an answer to this question? Since you have partial success, perhaps you can share some info. My main .swf is loaded on a web server and links to other URLs works well but links to other .swf that are loaded in the same directory as the main .swf do not activate at all..no sound, no visual. Did you load your sub-swf files in the same directory? did you use a special naming scheme? did you load the .html file for the sub-swf?

I have Microsoft Office 2008 and only use Word and Excel. It takes 980 mb. I am considering replacing it with Apple iWorks 2013. If I do, can I delete Office, and still access and modify my Word and Excel documents?

Just adding to what CSound has said.
Pages and Numbers will change Word and Excel documents when they open and close them.
Sometimes the change is subtle and sometimes not. With the latest versions of Pages and Numbers, more likely not.
So don't think you are going to work with MsOffice files without problems. You will always have something not right and in some cases really annoyingly not right. Like having all the text from Pages appear bold in MsWord, or page breaks in the wrong place or some objects and graphics not appearing in one or the other.
If working between different Operating Systems and MsOffice files, I also recommend LibreOffice. It opens and saves nearly all file formats. Unfortunately not .pages or numbers. Yet. The folks at LibreOffice are busy adding to it all the time, and making sure it works in all Operating systems, Mac, Windows and Linux and they are promising iOS as well soon.

Need help with embedded SWF Playing

I have an embedded SWF file (A 4 photo slide show) created in Flash Professional CS5, Action script 3, flash player 10 selected.
I have placed this into the flash catalyst CS5 file. The file previews in the browser perfectly.
The problem is when published it will not start the slideshow until you refresh the browser (Safari and FireFox) the local version runs fine
the published version does not even when uploaded to the web server. www.ngambaisland.com
This site was woking properly before I made some changes to the slide show and rebuilt the file to optimize it for loading performance.

Thanks for looking but I have tested the website on 5 different computers an the slide show only activates after you hit the screen refresh button.
I am afraid I am a bit limited in flash. You mentioned to check access settings. I used the default action script 3 settings in the publish settings.
Could you please be more descriptive as what to look for or what settings I would need to change?

Controlling one embedded swf with another

I have a flash website where I am using the loadMovie()
function to load multiple swfs, buttons, etc. into my index.swf
file (so it is easier to update one component than the whole
movie).
I have a series of buttons (home, about, services, etc.) that
in are in a file called "buttons.swf" and are loading into
index.swf. I also have another button called "envelope.swf", which
brings up a screen for a "Tell a Friend about this Page" box. I
would like to have the "buttons.swf" files disabled when when the
"envelope.swf" button is clicked, but I'm not too sure how to go
about doing it BECAUSE it is called through loadMovie.
Can this be done? I know about using enabled=false/true, but
how can I use that when referring to an embedded swf?

That's a very wise method of developing your website.
My group uses something like this:

createEmptyMovieClip("myComponent", getNextHighestDepth());
this.loadClip(src, this.myComponent);
Then when you need to access a function or value in your
component, you just use standard dot notation:
this.myComponent.myFunction(values);
this.myComponent.button1,_width=220;
You can even embed components inside other components.

Refresh data in SWF based on excel file saved from SAP BW workbook

Hi, is there a way to get data refresh in SWF dashboard from excel file as a data source. SAP BW workbook report will be saved as an excel file daily and placed in somewhere. I would like to create a dashboard which can connect to the excel data source and refresh on load.

If I understand correctly from your advice, that is I should create QaaWs to pull data from SAP BI, which will return data in tabular format. Map the data in the cell range of a hidden tab, re-arrange and format the data into the row?
Another concern: I need to display data for 4 quarters (Q1, Q2, Q3,Q4) in the dashboard, but QAAWS will only pulls data when the data is available in the database.
   Eg. Only data for 3 quarters are found in the database, QAAWS will return data for Q1, Q2,Q4.
         This will mess up the position fixed in the xcelsius. Do you have any suggestion on this?

How to link Excel file to Access

I created a barcode database using excel and labview. Now i want this data to be in access as a database and continuosly update it.
I have a doubt also as i have created excel sheet of various product barcode and there is always a new sheet that is saved when ever working( this is a requirement) so how can i link all the file and creat one access database.

i want labview to link my excel and acess, so that a database is created.
second thing is i am having verious barcode data like for eg. for product X i have a particular barcode and for product Y another so my software create a new excel file whenever we change a product or a particular quantity of any product is filled. Now the question is if everytime i creat a new excel how do i creat a single database by linking all files using labview.

Firefox doesn't play embedded swf

I've looked on many forums, including Firefox, with no real answer. Running Firefox 4. It just doesn't play embedded SWF. My Adobe Flashplayer is up to date, so is the plugin. The page displays properly. But the area that should be displaying a movie is just represented by a tiny square. No error message appears. The same page doesn't show the movie in IE9 either.
Now from looking at the page information, it just requires Flashplayer 6 and above for the SWF area. I do have Flashplayer 10. The plugin says Shockwave Flash player 10 is up to date. Many other pages with different types of embedded movies play properly.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Problem with "Save as Adobe PDF format" in Excel and Word

When I use printing zone in Excel and make a «Save as Adobe PDF format» (menu File / Save as Adobe PDF), the first save is well done. But when I make it a second time, what's not in the printing zone is printing in the document.
I have also problem with the «Save as Adobe PDF format» in Word. The images superposition are not well print.
I'm using Windows 7 in french, Office 2010 french and Adobe Acrobat XI standard. All is in the latest version.

The Save As PDF feature in Office2008 Call up a PDF Creator similar to the AdobePDF Print Driver. whch OX.6 can't use.
To create Pdf you have to use method used:

Not before you attempt to use this method if Rossetta is not installed. pop in your Systems DVD and install Rosetta. Then follow directions to install the Adobe Quality PDF Automator Script which will show up in the Print Menu. Click on Print > then click PDF. Then Click on Adobe quality PDF. AS for setting up Job options and other details Supposedly your suppose to have access. But I have no idea.
First thing Rosetta should be installed out of the box. and Second Adobe should install this Script from their installer. So their should be no intervention from the user. it should just work. Early report when OSX.6 first came out almost no one was able to get this to work. and I see periodic reports that people still can't get it tork and they have to to resort to saving as .ps files then droping on distiller.
