Embedding video in a .SWF

I would like to create a site that has a small video of a
person welcoming users to the page. What is the best way to do
this?
1. should the video be encoded as a .flv and then be brought
into my .fla?
2. How do I set the .flv to not start on load, but to wait
until the user clicks a play button?
Thanks!

The FLVPlayback component is there (Window -> Components
-> [from "video" dropdown in Components list] ->FLVPlayback)
From what I have discovered, you need to be scripting in AS 2.0.
The component does not seem to be an option in AS 3.0. If you need
to change the scripting version, you can do this through
File->Publish Settings and in the window that opens, choose the
"Flash" tab and change the scripting version from the drop down
menu third from the top. As a rule, if the .flv is larger than a
couple megs, I would stream them via the FLVPlayback. You can
choose to have the file (s) simply play on open, or you can use
buttons to trigger the upload. Very simple and effective tutorial
on how to do this here:

Hope this helps!

  • Embedded Video Audio Sync Problem

    I have been exporting Flash Video from Adobe Premiere
    Elements 3.0. I import the .FLV into Flash 8 as embedded video. The
    published .SWF works fine, audio and video start in sync and stay
    in sync, but about 3/4 through the video, audio stops.
    This occurs no matter how short or long the exported clip.
    I did my best searching through these forums, looking for an
    answer to this issue, but have had no success.

    Do you need to embed the FLV file in the SWF file? I would
    recommend playing the FLV as an external file. If you need to use
    embedded video, make sure the frame rates are identical (SWF and
    FLV). I can't remember if Premiere Elements enables you to output
    with Raw audio for FLV files, but Flash 8 (or CS3) will recompress
    an embedded video's audio track on publish/export--so, try to use
    Raw if you can to avoid recompression. This might have something to
    do with your problem too, the recompression of the MP3 audio track
    in your original FLV when re-exporting as embedded video in the
    SWF. (Your audio stream setttings in the Publish Settings control
    the quality/recompression of your FLV output when embedded in the
    SWF.)

  • Embedding video in an embeded SWF

    Hello people. I'm building a site with a flip book component.
    The book is a movie and then I load the pages via an XML file. The
    pages are SWF files. You can see the book at
    http://www.thiez.com/evf/main.htm
    Now, If I add a video on a particular page by embedding it in
    the flash movie, I will be able to see it when I test that
    particular page, but it wont show when I test the whole book. So
    basically, my problem is: the video shows ok in the file where it
    is embedded but not in the main SWF file that calls the SWF file
    containing the video. Any idea will be appreciated.

    there sure are a lot of angry peeps on this forum lately.
    Hard to tell exactly what you are doing -
    allow me to quote you:
    "I am importing Mpeg2 into an embeded video in SWF and play
    timeline"
    not exactly sure what that means - are you importing an mpeg
    into flash to the timeline?
    you cant import into an embeded video - that sounds like you
    already have a video file in your FLA
    and are trying to import another video "into" it - cant be
    true and must be a typo.
    Make it easier for us to help you by explaining in detail
    what you are doing.
    Also - this is a volunteer based peer to peer forum - it is
    not official adobe support - you need to
    contact them directly if the issue can not be solved here.

  • Swf with embedded videos pauses in PDF output (CP6)

    I've created a CP project that includes several simulations recorded on slides. The HTML and HTML 5 outputs run smoothly, but the PDF output pauses at the end of each embedded video. Is there a setting or property that will run the entire swf without pausing?

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
    Is your Simulations are Video Demo & Automatic Recording ?

  • Playing hidden embedded videos in swf?

    Hi all,
    A plea for help with a problem encountered.
    Firstly a big thank you for the help recieved in solving a previous problem, with animations not resetting themselves of frame reset!
    My next issue is as follows:
    The project I am working on involves a lot of video and Flash games that use video as part of the game.  The current animation has 5 videos embedded and are set to .visible=false at the very start.  The user is then asked to drag an object over various parts of an image.  If they drag the object to the wrong part of the image, the video is set to visible.true and is played. On video completion it is set to .visible=false and the original image is displayed with the user given another attempt at dragging the object to the correct area of the image.
    The game works perfectly when published in Flash, but on import to captivate, I get the dragable object and the image, but when the object is dragged to the incorrect sport, nothing happens and the video is not played.  The whole animation just freezes :-(
    So, does anyone else have any expereience with hiding/playing embedded videos in an animation with captivate? Any tips?
    Thanks for any help!
    Tristan

    You've got to be kidding me.
    One and a half years ago, the product manager (Dennis Griffin) almost sounds surprised to learn that people actually want to use some of the features of Acrobat within the Adobe Reader app. Fast forward to today, and nothing has changed. Adobe Reader still can't play videos, still doesn't offer most of the interactive features that the PDF format (wasn't that your baby, Adobe?) provides, and still is the most basic of apps. Granted, you can get a third-party app like "PDF Expert", but I find it hard to justify to my customers to stick with the PDF format if they need to purchase a separate app just to use their files, because Adobe hasn't managed for the last 18 months to get their own technology working.

  • Embedding video and audio for internet flipbook

    Dear All,
    first of all, sorry if it's been asked before but I could not find direct answer.
    My company, small translation agency in Poland, plans on to buy InDesign to improve quality of our output documents, but we have one more feature in mind and we don't know if InDesign CS6 supports this.
    In a movie http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs55-design-standard-feature-tour/create-more-compelling-ebooks- with-indesign-cs55/ Terry White presents how to make an eBook with embedded video. We need a solution to create a similar effect, but the final document would be accessible from WWW (eg. http://essentialabsurdities.com/dance/ - there is no video in the example) - we want people to be able to browse content like in a book (flipbook?) and access video and audio (embedded or stored on a serwer along the document) when needed.
    Does InDesign support this? What should be the final format of such a document? Interactive PDF? SWF? Everybody says Flash is going to be retired soon (Apple does not support it, Android devices are soon to follow, the same for PCs in the nearest future probably) so we do not want to use this.
    Many thanks for your opinions on the issue.
    Best wishes,
    Michal Kornacki

    I have no incoming video for my Jabber account. I was doing some testing for one of my customers who had this issue. Here is what I found. I have a EX90 registered to VCS on a corporate network. I have my Jabber Express client I downloaded and installed. When I call to or from either I don't receive video on Jabber Express but I get audio from the EX90. I get Audio and video on the EX90 from Jabber. What I found when I was troubleshooting is that if you leave the call up for 30 seconds I finally start recieving video on Jabber from the EX90. After testing a few calls this happened every time. I then checked the call settings on both sides during the call. Both endpoints are experiencing 50% or so packet loss until the video started being sent to Jabber and then the packet loss dropped to 0. So I would assume there is something wrong on the Jabber Express end that is causing a 30 second or so delay when the video is being sent through the proxy. Has anyone else had this exact issue?

  • Embedded video skins

    Embedding video in swf and placing in InDesign for export to
    PDF. Don't see a way to include embedded skins with embedded video
    to get a single swf to place in InDesign to ultimately get PDF
    playback with the skin. Procedure or examples to do this?

    Hi Steve
    I believe you would do this as follows.
    1. Click Project > Skin...
    2. In the Skin: drop down, scroll to the bottom of the list
    and choose "BMP Playbars".
    This should result in a single file that contains the former
    version of controls. However, you will also find that Captivate 2
    will still output two .SWF files along with the HTML file. If you
    upload both the HTML file and the .SWF file to your LMS, you will
    need to amend the HTML file so it correctly references only the
    base .SWF file. It seems that Captivate 2 will seemingly always
    point at the playback control file in the HTML file. The playback
    control file then loads up the main .SWF file. Also note that the
    HTML file will also contain a differing height statement for the
    movie. Presumably this is to account for the added playback
    control.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • How do I create/host interactive articles with embedded video for use in browsers?

    I'm seeking a little guidance -
    How do I create/host interactive articles with embedded video for use in browsers?
    The aim is to bring together video, design, images and writing in one place. A little like Born Presents, but very accessible and user friendly.
    I'm happy using InDesign but want to create interactive articles / magazines that have embeded video files as required. I've been looking at .SWF files but I've come unstuck.
    I want people to view the articles via a blog, ideally with them opening in a lightbox style viewer. It's not intended for tablet viewing and people should be able to view and interact with the files with little effort on their part.
    I think I know how to create these files within InDesign, but I'm not so hot on web design and I'm not sure how to host these online. Does this start coming into the realms of Flash?
    If anyone could point in the right direction I'd really appreciate it - Thank you in advance.

    PDF is one thing. Folios for DPS is another. There is a little bit of
    overlap but not much.
    The interactivity in the folio overlays panel is for DPS only.

  • Play/Pause button for embedded video

    I'm working with an embedded video file and have set up some
    basic controls. The client wants the play button to be able to go
    from Play to Pause and have the button visually do this as well.
    Currently I have one Play button and one Stop button. How do I do
    this?
    Right now I have this for the play button:
    on (release) {
    _root.embeddedVideo.stopped = false;
    _root.embeddedVideo.play();
    And for the Stop button I have:
    on (release) {
    _root.embeddedVideo.stopped = true;
    _root.embeddedVideo.stop();
    Any thoughts or ideas?

    What would that look like? Right now they're loading using the following code:
    btnCashCollect_btn.onRelease = function () {
          mcLoader.loadClip("CashCollections.swf",myLoader);
          btnEndPeriod_btn.enabled = false;
          btnCashCollect_btn.enabled = false;
          btnFinancialMGMT_btn.enabled = false;
          _root.btnHome_mc._visible = false;
    So would I use something like:
    btnPause.onRelease = function() {
         myLoader.content.pause();
    Actually I just tried that and it didn't work...I need the buttons to work for multiple external swfs that will be loaded into myLoader

  • Problems with embedded video

    Thanks Dave
    Re the no controls in SWF problem, I did try adding the SWF resources. Camtasia places all the products of production in a folder, I loaded the main swf as the media and went Add Resources and added everything else, but still no controls appear when it runs. Camtasia has  Preview option available at the production stage and I ran this and it showed controls.
    Re the clip extending beyond window problem, Is there some way of posting a picture of the troublesome window? I tried a few tests. Firstly I embedded the clip with floating window and the default window size (320 * 240). It ran fine (although the clip was way too small) with the clip centred in the window, black bars on the right and left between the clip edge and the window boundary, with clip extending to the top and bottom of window. Next I doubled the window size, everything OK again but clip too small. I trebled the window size, still OK. When I set the window at four times default size (1280*960) the problem occurred. It looks exactly like the clip is extending beyond the right hand border of the window. You can see the windows’ X (close window) button on its to right corner, but it’s about an inch (to the left) in from the clips top right corner. It looks  like there may be some maximum window size.
    Thanks again.
    I am very new to embedded video so forgive my ignorance here. I am creating clips with Camtasia and embedding them in a pdf with Acrobat pro X. I have tried SWF and MP4.  The clips are large so I have set them to run in a floating window. There are two issues:
    Although I have set the Width and Height slightly larger than the clip, I get a black band up the right hand side and the clip appears to extend beyond the Right hand side.
    No matter what settings I use, when I embed a SWF I get no controllers when the clip runs.

    Thanks Dave

    Re the clip extending beyond window problem I think I have worked out whats happening. The clip was definitely extending beyond the right hand edge of the Window. You can see the windows’ X (close window) button on its to right corner, but it’s about an inch in from the clips top right corner.  However I experimented with various window sizes, smaller sizes worked fined but big windows created the problem. Then I noticed that when I moved the window, it is not fully floating on the desktop,as is the case with an avi loaded from a hyperlink, but floats in the pdf document. As I stretched the pdf's right hand edge (made the pdf window bigger) the extent to which the clip extended beyond the clip window decreased until it disappeared. I can understand that if the pdf window is too small you won't be able to see all the clip window, but something still seems a bit wrong here to me. If you have the pdf window maximised the clip appears centred in the clip window. If you drag the clip window to the right the window and clip remain together as they disappear beyond the pdf window. This is the behaviour I would expect to see in a smaller pdf window, it seems wrong that as you shrink the pdf window that the clip window shrinks in a manner which is out of sync with the shrinking of the clip itself, which is what happens. I can send a picture or avi if you like.
    Thanks

  • Why does embedded video cause audio sync issues?

    Greetings all,
       I have a question that is perhaps best answered by an Adobe developer or someone who knows the SWF file format and various audio/video standards fairly well. When one drags an FLV file into the library in flash authoring tool, a window appears. If you click "Embed FLV in SWF and play on timeline", an awful message appears, "WARNING: Embedded video is likely to cause audio synchronization issues...". My question is: why would there be any audio synchronization issue? Is this really just a bug/unimplemented feature? Or is there some fundamental shortcoming of current versions of the SWF file format that does not allow for the FLV audio/video signals to be properly encoded in the SWF file? Or is it that the flash player plays SWF and FLV data in fundamentally different ways and that even if the audio/video is perfected sync'd in the SWF file, the fact that it's a SWF file causes flash player to lose sync?
       I'm guessing only a Flash developer could answer this (and probably not just any Flash developer!), so if there are any out there, please spare some wisdom for a poor lost SWF surfer.
       Thanks!

    Hi:
    Welcome to discussions!
    From what I am reading, you are trying to use the audio that was in the original video-right? By that, I mean, you haven't added a voice over or music-just using the speaker's voice on the tape.
    If so, you might want to try using something like a Fade Out or Fade In instead of one of the transitions that add or subtract to the length of the video
    [Quoted from iMovie Help]
    Some transitions (for example, Cross Dissolve and Push) shorten your movie by a few seconds, depending on the speed of the transition. For example, if you add a transition with a speed of 2 seconds, iMovie overlaps 2 seconds from the first clip and 2 seconds from the second clip as it renders the transition. This shortens your movie by a total of 2 seconds.
    The Overlap transition freezes the last frame of the clip on its left and superimposes it over the next clip. Fade In/Fade Out blackens the last frames of the clip on the left and the first frames of the following clip.
    [End quote]
    Or you could try extracting the audio from the movie so that you could edit it and sync it that way.

    i met this error every time if i compile a "BIG " project.(with 1G+  image resources).   And also ,if you  import 500+ images into Flash CS ...you  know ,its prefix is  "Adobe".
    i guess , it's  because somebody not like "BIG " thing.
    So..on  32bit windows  platform ..i  upgrade my JVM to  1.7 ,and..modified  -XSS value . it will help us ..but not 100% resolved.

    I think ,it's  because of the bad RAM Manager  of  JVM. on 32bit windows machine .it's only can manager 1024M ram .(such a stupid VM).   And  on 64bit platform ..JVM seems  to be d normal.

  • Embedded Video Encoding Question

    I'm wondering what your opinion is when it comes to embedding
    video in a timeline: Should I import an uncompressed movie directly
    to the timeline and let the encoding take place then... or should I
    encode the FLV prior to even opening Flash and then importing the
    final FLV? I'm mostly concerned about quality. In the latter
    scenario, I'm wondering if it's encoded twice.

    I'd recommend doing a test, just for your own info. Having
    the video external from the timeline would be the better way to go,
    though. Import a video and check out the .swf file size vs. one
    that pulls in the flv from an external file via stream. The
    embedded video will need a preloader just to handle the size of the
    .swf while the external video will buffer.
    ...And...no, it doesn't do double compression on the video if
    it was external. If you want to play around with FLV settings,
    check out the bitrate calculator
    http://influxis.com/assets/other/FBC_v1.0.4/index.html
    which is an excellent resource for quickly figuring out aspect
    ratio, optimal bitrates and more! Good luck!

  • Embedded videos from Viddler unable to play

    I have been having this problem for quite some time now and it finally bugged me enough to post about it. Anyway, on the Gawker Media sites (specifically Deadspin for this example) embedded videos from Viddler show a "Video not found" error message. However, if you get the link from the video and watch it directly it works fine. Also if you go to viddler.com and watch any video, they work fine. It appears as though something is messed up in how Firefox handles the embedding of the videos. Not sure if it is an HTML5 thing, a Gecko thing, or what but it works fine in G0ogle Chrome.
    Here is a link of an example of what I am talking about:
    http://deadspin.com/5833185/espn-is-airing-a-tv-commercial-for-grantland
    and if you get the link for the video and go to it directly it works fine:
    http://cdn.static.viddler.com/flash/as3/full-publisher.swf?ref=&key=8ed093e8
    The actual link was:
    http://www.viddler.com/embed/8ed093e8/
    but I had to change it to
    http://www.viddler.com/player/8ed093e8/
    based on advice from:
    http://www.viddler.com/forums/bugs/7491/
    I am running Firefox v7.b1 and I tried it both with and without my add-ons enabled. My Flash and all other plugins are up to date. I had the exact same problem with Firefox v6 as well. Please fix this issue. Thanks

    Based on rschmitty's reply, I attempted a clean install. This seems to fix everything. Not sure where, when, or how something got screwed up, but this is a fairly simple fix. It even continued to work after installing all my add-ons.
    After a little research I did find a couple things that can cause this to mess up. Viddler is very picky about their hotlinking and tries to control who links to their videos. Thus if you go to about:config and change the network.http.sendRefererHeader (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.http.sendRefererHeader) to anything other than the default of '2' that messes up any video links from Viddler, not just the links on Gawker Media websites. This change is often required by websites like http://crazedlist.org/ or any other mass craigslist searching sites. Just remember that if you change the network.http.sendRefererHeader option, you must change it back for videos to work.
    Another thing that can screw with the Viddler video linking are add-ons which basically do the same thing as modifying the network.http.sendRefererHeader option. One such add-on is [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/refcontrol/ RefControl], which if you change from anything but the default will cause the 'Video Not Found' error. If you use add-ons like RefControl be sure to add viddler.com to your whitelist/normal referer list so that this doesn't happen.
    This is not an exhaustive list of things which can cause this problem, but it appears that anything like the two above examples which mess with the http referer header will cause it. Maybe reinstalling is not necessary if you simply check anything that may be modifying this option.
