Enable midi on my mac

Hi.
I am on an ibook G4 running OS X 10.4 tiger.
When I open a java .class file which creates and plays a midi sequence, I get no audio, although no error is thrown.  Control is not passed back to terminal, either.
Here is what this looks like:
Here is the code for my java file:
import javax.sound.midi.*;
public class MiniMusicCmdLine {
static {
System.out.println("Initialising...");
public static void main(String[] args) {
MiniMusicCmdLine mini = new MiniMusicCmdLine();
String errorMsg = "Error - Main requires two intigers for input.";
try {
int instrument = 123;
int note = 123;
mini.play(instrument, note);
catch(Exception ex){
System.out.println(errorMsg);
System.out.println("End of programme");//wrap up
public void play(int instrument, int note){
try {
System.out.println("entering play()");
System.out.println("Initialising variables...");
Sequencer player = MidiSystem.getSequencer();
player.open();
Sequence seq = new  Sequence(Sequence.PPQ, 4);
Track track = seq.createTrack();
MidiEvent event = null;
ShortMessage first = new ShortMessage();
first.setMessage(192, 1, instrument, 0);
MidiEvent changeInstrument = new MidiEvent(first, 1);
track.add(changeInstrument);
ShortMessage a = new ShortMessage();
a.setMessage(144, 1, note, 100);
MidiEvent noteOn = new MidiEvent(a, 1);
track.add(noteOn);
ShortMessage b = new ShortMessage();
b.setMessage(128, 1, note, 100);
MidiEvent noteOff = new MidiEvent(b, 1);
track.add(noteOff);
player.setSequence(seq);
System.out.println("Our control flow has reached open() and start().");
player.open();
player.start();
System.out.println("Now calling open(), start() five times...");
try {
for (int i = 1 ;i < 6; i++)
player.open();
player.start();
System.out.print(i + " ");
System.out.println("\n");
catch(Exception ex)
System.out.println("Error Caught while looping.  Throwing to play()");
throw(ex);
System.out.println("Calling stop() and  close() on our midi sequence");
player.stop();
player.close();
System.out.println("Exiting main()...");
catch(Exception ex)
System.out.println("Error caught in play...");
ex.printStackTrace();
If it helps, I have installed 'mandolane', which hasn't helped, and have tried running java on both 1.4.2, and 1.5  Because I am on os X 10.4, I cannot upgrade to java 1.6.  (Niether can I upgrade to itunes 10)
Any comments would be very much appreciated,
Thanks,

    How do I hook up MIDI to my Mac? I have a new I/O that does not have MIDI in/out. I do have a M-audio Midisport 1x1.

    Yall rock.  Just tested Back to my Mac with my phone's hotspot and it worked!  and so does airplay!  Much Much appreciated!!
    For double NAT the reset didn't work at first and I had to unplug all the connections but eventually got it back.  I also checked "Enable detection of router-behind-router conditions" in the RG.  Not sure if that did anything but I'm not seeing any AE warnings anymore.
    Thanks again!

  • HT4908 how do I enable back to my mac

    I'm not sure how to enable bac to my mac laptop. I'm not sure Icloud set up correctly.  I have a mac desktop and a mac laptop and would like to share information.  Having trouble with the icloud back to my mac set up.

    I am able to use Back to My Mac (BTMM) after obtaining an iCloud account.  To get both File Sharing and Screen Sharing to work between my Mac Mini and my Mac Pro (both running Lion 10.7.2), here is what I did:
    On both machines (or however many Macs you have), click on System Preferences --> Users & Groups
    Make sure that the email address listed next to "Apple ID" is your iCloud ID (i.e. [email protected])
    Also go to System Preferences --> Sharing and make sure that File Sharing and Screen Sharing are both checked.
    After you have changed these settings on each Mac, start Finder.  Your shared Mac icon should be visible in the sidebar under Shared.  If not, go into the Finder Preferences and under the Sidebar tab, make sure Back to My Mac is checked under the Shared heading.
    If you still have problems, try restarting both Macs.
    To use File Sharing, start Finder and click the icon for your shared Mac under Shared.  In the top right corner of the window, there is a button labeled, "Connect As..."  Click this and enter your iCloud ID and password.  To use Screen Sharing, click "Share Screen..." and enter the same information.
    I hope this helps,
    jjw

    Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!!  How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??

    We are suffering very similar issues when communicating from my iphone to a friend who has both iphone and iPad enabled.
    As long as I reply to an existing text chain, then it is visible on the target iphone.  If I SMS the phone number, it gets routed to the IPAD!!   And NO, I should not have to disable imessage when I want to send an SMS!!

  • HT4907 Password Issue when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in iCloud Preferences - HELP?

    Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have a problem enabling Back to My Mac. When I try and enable B2MM in the iCloud preferences window, I am asked to enter my Apple ID password. It says the password is incorrect, even though it IS 100% correct. I've even tried resetting my password (so that the password lives up to the latest security requirements for passwords, etc). So, it's definitely correct, and I'm able to login to my Apple account here (on this Apple laptop as well as on my iPad and iPhone)... it's not an issue when I log in anywhere else... I am only told my password is incorrect when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in the iCloud preferences pane.
    Help?
    Many thanks!

    Do these make installation of memeo superfluous? Would I need memeo for daily back up?
    From what I gather, you couldn't pay me to use Memeo, nor actually a Seagate enclosure, nor many USB only drives, (USB is not bootable on PPC Macs).
    I've used maybe a few dozen backup Apps on the Mac, and I'd personally judge only Apple's Time Machine worse than that one.
    If you had it to do all over again, you'd get a case with Firewire, one with an Oxford chipset, not containing a Green Drive, not a Seagate Drive, not less than 7200 RPM drive, & a 32MB Cache, not with a One-Button touch feature, ( not a Bus powered drive like...

  • Mid 2008 17" Mac book pro PLEASE HELP

    I have a mid 2008 17" Mac book pro and the display won't turn on it appears to have a problem with the video card since this is out of my hand and I had nothing to do with it what should I do the computer is out of warranty already

    Have you considered taking the MacBook Pro to the Apple store for an assessment of what it would take to fix?  It could be a screen failure or a video circuit issue.
    If you have a monitor or display handy, you could try hooking it up to your MBP to see if it will display anything.

    Hi EVO67 !
    I checked out your solution, but.... sorry it doesn't works.
    So I cut off the bluetooth connection of the magic trackpad from my iMac and pair it again, but the problem is the same.
    May be it's bigger bug with LION, so I need an update for this function.
    But thank you very much for your help.

    Please tell me waht to do.
    thanks a lot.

    Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays andhigh-performance data devices through a single, compact port. It sets new standards for speed, flexibility, and simplicity. And it’s on MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini.
    I don't see mention of the Mac Pro.

  • Enable Hardware Virtualization On Mac Pro 8 Core (Early 2008)

    Hi,
    Has anyone has any success enabling the Intel VT-X feature on the Xeons on the Mac Pro (Early 2008, 8 core Xeon)? The VMWare ISO indicates that its turned off on all cores, and NOT locked. VMWare confirms that its not enabled, by not allowing me to boot a 64bit guest OS.
    Has anyone had any success? ive got the latest EFI BIOS, hoping that it would fix it (like a BIOS upgrade did aparently for the Mac Mini).
    As the feature bit is not locked, maybe there is a way of doing it in software (normally the BIOS turns the feature on or off, then locks it, the lock holding until the next cold boot). We would need ring0 access to the processor.
    Alternatively, there is a EFI exe floating around that aparently enabled it for the Mac Mini (on old firmware with the bug).
    Whats the best way to report this to Apple? do they have a history of fixing user-reported issues?
    Thanks
    George

    Interestng about firmware. Sounds odd to have cpu from different batches.

    One security expert uses a Mac Pro and runs multiple VMs was interviewed and up on Tom's Hardware - there have been changes since 2006 (1st gen Mac Pro) compared to even 2008. Probably nothing to help but VT -d and other stuff was news to me.
