Enabled Usage Rights turned off when form filled out in Acrobat vs Reader

I created a form in Acrobat Pro 9 and enabled the usage rights so the end user can save the form. Anyone who opens it and fills it in using Reader has no problem.
However, if one user begins filling it in using Acrobat (so far only Std to my knowledge), and then either that user or another opens it to continue in Reader, the form fields are no longer fillable. It has become a read only pdf.
I didn't see anything in the properties I could set to avoid this. Is there a way to save the form to avoid this problem?

You mentioned AA7 users. I don't think they can not edit the form at all, just fill it in unless you saved it with backward compatibility. The PDF to them would be like using Reader and that may be the difference for AA7 use. In fact, I am not sure how far back in compatibility the user rights will extend if activated and it might be lost if backward compatibility is used with the PDF Optimizer. Those are some thoughts anyway about the comparisons you made. The other guys are the forms experts and I am not in a position to debate their comments, only offer a possible explanation.

  • Large file size and slow pagination when form filled out in Reader 7

    Hi all,
    I have designed a form with Livecycle Designer 8. For compatibility, I have made it an Acrobat 7 (Dynamic) XML Form. The form itself is 18 pages long and when filled in with Reader 8, pagination is quick and the file size only jumps about 100KB. However, when I fill in the form with Reader 7, it takes about 10-20 seconds to repaginate the form each time a field is filled in and the filled in form size jumps to about 6MB!
    Can anyone explain this behavior and tell me if there is a way that I can work around this for my clients using Reader 7?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Performance of forms was a known problem in Reader / Acrobat 7. There were afew things you can do to help but it can't be fixed other than by upgrading to version 8.
    This document contains afew ideas to help with form performance:
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/lc_designer_perf_guidelines.pdf
    There also used to be an Adobe document around for version 7 which stated that 8 pages was the practical maximum for form sizes. You could go a bit bigger than this, but the performance would degrade pretty fast.
    As Jared stated before, for large forms, moving to version 8 is about your only realistic option.

  • Instead of going to sleep macbook turns off when it runs out of power

    Sometimes (not all the time-- I'd estimate 50% of the time) when I am running my macbook from the battery, and I run out of power, my computer shuts itself off instead of going to sleep.
    B/c I use my macbook a lot from the battery to write etc., the shutting off is getting annoying.
    Has anyone else had this happen, or know what I can do about it?
    I am running the most updated version of 10.5.1

    This problem affects pre Santa Rosa MacBooks so you need to check the following.
    Check and see if you have battery update 1.3 installed. You should find it at the location listed. Right click on the bundle and check *Get Info* a window will open and you can check the version there.
    MacBook/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater.bundle
    Leopard(10.5.1) and Tiger(10.4.11) installs it. It is the MacBook Pro update.
    If it is 1.3 drag it to the trash and then reboot. After you reboot you will be able to empty the trash. Once you have done that run software update and it should install Battery Update 1.2. You should reset the SMC (System Management Controller) after doing this.
    Where is this "bundle" located at?

  • Why does the tab order I set change when I enable usage rights?

    I am using Adobe Pro 9.1.2 - set the tab order manually in a 4 page document - test everything - works great.  Then, I enable usage rights, go back into the document to test, and the tabbing is out of order again.  I have done this multiple times and what should have been a simple task is now taking hours to complete.  Help!!!  This didn't happen until I upgraded to this version.

    Helvetica Neu 10 pt is the default text style for Numbers tables.
    Setting a different style to one, some, or all cells does not make that different style the 'default.' Here's an example of the effects of three different sets of actions. All cells in the table had been set to display text as Jazz LET, 12 pt. The original content of B3, C3, and D3 was the same as is shown in C4. For each of the cells in row 3, the procedure described below was carried out, then the text shown was typed into the cell.
    When you Select a cell, then "Cut" the cell, the cut includes the text AND any style that has been set for that cell, and the cell reverts to the default style. See cell B3 in the example.
    If you Select the cell, Copy, then press delete, the text (and style) are copied, the content (text), but not the style, is deleted. See C3.
    If you click on the cell to select it, click again to place the insertion point in the cell (to edit the text), then Select the text and press delete (or Cut), then the text is removed from the cell, but the style remains. See D3.

  • Enable Usage Rights Resetting in Adobe 8.1.2

    Hi!
    I've created a series of forms using Livecycle that need to be sent off to multiple recipients, who need to be able to save/print/etc. from Acrobat Reader.
    Using Professional 8.1.2 I've been Enabling Usage Rights with Acrobat Reader but when I open the forms up again the next day the rights are no longer enabled and I have to enable them all over again! It doesn't happen every time - they stick with some forms - but most of the time they seem to be reset and it's getting very hard to keep track of which forms are still enabled.
    Is this a known problem? Any ideas??

    I've double checked my fonts, and the only fonts used are Myriad Pro which I'm pretty sure is embedded across Acrobat.
    Do you know what kind of scripts might cause the change? I've got a couple running in the forms - the ones that I've written myself are:
    1. calculation scripts (just pretty simple numeric calculations on inputted data)
    2. an if... then script that runs on a dummy e-mail submit button that clicks the actual submit if a check-box is ticked
    I know there's also script running in the 'current date' field, which is the only thing I could think of that might be running every time the form is opened, and which might explain why the rights stay until the next day. However, if I try to recreate the problem by changing the date on my comp calendar and re-opening the forms, the usage rights are still sticking there fine.
    Do any of these seem like likely causes, or are there other scripts that might be hidden around on the form? What's the best way to check?
    Also, all of my scripts were written in Formcalc instead of Javascript - would this make a difference?

  • Why is Enable Usage Rights creating Duplicate Pages?

    I have created a dynamic PDF form in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2.  The form is formatted correctly and has no duplicate pages when examining the not-enabled form in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  However, when I attempt to Enable Usage Rights so that external users can download the form and fill in the fields, the ENABLED version has duplicate pages.  I do not understand why because the original document does not have these duplicates - they only appear when I Enable the Usage Rights.  I cannot delete these duplicate pages in the Enabled version.  Please help!

    hello, these are the files where firefox stores its cache - you won't need ccleaner (in fact it will only slow things down as you've already noticed, since those files have to be recreated after the next start of the browser), you can also clear the cache with the built-in mechanism in firefox: [[How to clear the Firefox cache]]

  • Enabling usage rights in Adobe Reader corrupts PDF text

    Hi,
    I've created a registration form using Open Office writer which has editable fields. I convert this to a PDF and then add a signature field in Acrobat 8.
    At this point everything works fine, all the editable fields etc convert across, but I want people to be able to sign and save the form in Reader, so I check the "Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader" feature and save it. Now when I open the PDF in either Acrobat or Reader all the text is completely corrupted and illegible (see image).
    Any idea what's going on here?
    Thank you

  • Enabling Usage Rights on Livecycle PDF Causes Problems with Table

    I have a form that uses a script to dynamically add rows to a table.  Everything works great, except that once I enable usage rights on the PDF, the header row repeats 3 times on the document.
    LINK TO DOCUMENT WITHOUT USAGE RIGHTS  (link removed) Everything works perfectly, but once I enable usage rights...
    LINK TO DOCUMENT WITH USAGE RIGHTS (link removed) As you can see the table is all messed up. The header row repeats 3 times.
    I am at a loss as to why this is happening. If anyone has any ideas, I would be greatful!
    EDIT:  Okay so I figured out what my problem was for anyone else who has this problem. I UNCHECKED: "Repeat Row for Each Data Item" in the Object Properties of the Header Row.  No more repeating headers!

    Hi Sachin,
    Just run into a solution. You should upgrage to Reader Extensions v7.0.2 for this to work. Read the section
    "Enabling commenting in a PDF document rendered in a web browser"
    in the ReadMe.htm file that accompanies Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions Version 7.0.2
    The procedure described lets you enable Adobe Reader 7.0 and later to allow commenting when the PDF document is rendered in a web browser, similar to Adobe Reader 6.0.

    Hi there 8472kck!
    I have some information for you that can help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. That information can be found right here:
    Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
    Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    After at least 15 minutes, if:
    The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
    The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
    Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
    If the display turns on, go to step 4.
    If the display remains black, go to next step.
    Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Batch processing for Enabling Usage Rights for Reader

    Hello,
    We have a lot of documents that we are converting to fillable pdfs using Acorbat 9 which will then be sent out via email to be filled by users. Since there are 50-100 different files, is there a way to use Batch Processing to enable usage rights to Reader for all those documents? Any help or advice is appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Sam

    There's no way with Acrobat. You can with Adobe's LiveCycle Reader Extensions product, but it's likely not worth it for just this.

  • Problem with enabling usage rights for Adobe Reader

    Hi All,
    I have designed a form using Live cycle. From Live cycle I export it as PDF. As a final step, I open the PDF by using acrobat professional to enable usage rights for Adobe Reader. As soon as I enble the rights it saves the document with a different name, which is fine. However; at the same time it also runs the postsave events from the form and removes a couple of objects. How do I avoid this? My form has very little code:
    There is a drop down field called 'LearningSolutionsAdvisor' which has the following code on PostSave event:
    NewHorizons.Page1.LearningSolutionsAdvisor::postSave - (FormCalc, client)
    LearningSolutionsAdvisor.access ="readOnly"
    There is 'Save' button which has the following code:
    NewHorizons.Page1.Save::click - (JavaScript, client)
    app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
    NewHorizons.Page1.Save::postSave - (FormCalc, client)
    Save.presence = "invisible"
    I thank you for your help in advance.

    This video is very helpful as it explains exactly what I want to do:  Extend Features in Adobe Reader, to allow my readers to save their changes.  However, I do not have that option in my version of Adobe X Pro 10.1.4.  Can anyone explain to me why I don't have that option, and what an alternative would be?

  • Pavilion dv6- turns off when power cord removed

    There's a certain way I can unplug it where it doesn't shut off- but 99% of the time when the adapter is pulled out it shuts off. Has a new battery that shows 100% charged, and lasts a good hour if I can get it to stay on when unplugged. ONce it shuts off, it only comes back when the adapter is plugged in. Do I replace the adapter, battery (again), or something else?

    Hi @SavannahsDad
    Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
    I understand that your notebook turns off when the cord is unplugged. I am happy to assist. If the battery is showing as fully charged whenever you do this it almost sounds as if there is a bad connection between the battery and the notebook.
    Here are some things you can look at for now.Computer Does not Start (Windows 7, Vista, XP)
    AC Adapter Battery Charging Indicator LED Does Not Display Immediately When Plugged In
    Battery Charging Is Not Indicated in Vista or Charging LED Does Not Turn On
    Improving Battery Performance (Windows 8, 7, Vista)
    Let me know if any of that is useful to you, or if you see any other symptoms.
