  • Delete a database option is not available in DBCA

    Hello,
I have HP-UX 11v3. I have installed Oracle Standard Edition 10.2.0.1 and after that I installed 10.2.0.4 Patch Set.
I configured two databases using DBCA. At the end I save scripts (not create database) and run script from shell.
The databases are up and running.
I tried to delete one database through DBCA, but option Delete a database (and also "Configure Databse Option") is not available, they are grey.
What is the problem? What should I do to get option to delte both databases from DBCA?

LovroDBCA reads the ORATAB file on Unix to determine what databases exist to be dropped (and DBUA does the same to determine which databases are to be upgraded). Most likely the ORATAB file does not contain an uncommented entry for your database.

  • DBCA - "Configure Database Options" is diabled

    Hi,
I installed Oracle Database 10.2.0.4 without Oracle JVM. Now I want to add Oracle JVM.
However when I run dbca the option "Configure Database Option" is disabled. What can I do to enable it?
I read in Oracle doc http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/java.102/b14187/chfour.htm#BABGAHEE the following:
If you have already installed Oracle Database without Oracle JVM, then you can add Java to your database through the modify mode of the Database Configuration Assistant of Oracle Database 10g. The modify mode enables you to choose the features, such as Oracle JVM, that you would like to install on top of an existing Oracle Database instance.and I'm trying now to do that. Is "Configure Database Option" what I need or it is something else?
    OS: Solaris 10 x86

The issue is resolved. I just have forgotten to add an entry for my database to oratab file. Now the option is enabled in dbca.

  • How to Delete a Database on ASM

I am trying to delete a database which seems to be on ASM but I get the errors below. I have limited exposure on ASM so not sure how to proceed. Can someone help?
$ dbca -silent -deleteDatabase -responseFile dbca_response.rsp

ORA-01565: error in identifying file 'string'
Cause: An error occurred while trying to identify a file.
Action: Check the error stack for detailed information.
issue (Metalink Note 390591.1). We encountered similar issue in Linux RAC cluster and has been resoled by following this note.
    Cause
    =====
Installing the 10.2.0.2 patchset in a RAC installation on any Unix platform does not correctly update the libknlopt.a file on all nodes. The local node where the installer is run does update libknlopt.a but remote nodes do not get the updated file. This can lead to dumps or internal errors on the remote nodes if Oracle is subsequently relinked.
    Solution
    ========
There are two solutions for this problem:
    1) Manual copy of the "libknlopt.a" library to the offending nodes :
    - ensure all instances are shut down
    - manually copy $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/libknlopt.a from the local node to all remote nodes
    - relink Oracle on all nodes :
    make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle
    2) Install the patchset on every node using the "-local" option:
    On Unix:
    runInstaller -updateNodeList -local ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_HOME CLUSTER_NODES=node1,node2,...
    On Windows:
    setup.exe -updateNodeList -local ORACLE_HOME=%ORACLE_HOME% CLUSTER_NODES=node1,node2,...
ORA-10577: Can not invoke test recovery for managed standby database recovery
Cause: Test recovery option is used for managed standby database recovery.
Action: Either remove the test recovery option or invoke manual test standby database recovery

  • "Delete on Database" in /SAPAPO/SDORDER_DEL

    Dear All,
    Can somebody help explain what happens when we execute "Delete on Database" in /SAPAPO/SDORDER_DEL? and how would the program acts for each selection parameters, if;
    - we have not put anything in the selective deletion portion of the screen for "Location", "Product", and "Last Changed Before" fields, don't tick the check box for "Without check" option; but tick the check boxes for "Adjust ATP tables with /SAPAPO/POSMAPN table" and "Delete Obsolete Records in the /SAPAPO/POSMAPN table" in the additional function, what will happen? Will it delete anything? Or will it only do as what the additional function says?
    - how about in the product allocation data portion, considering that we have specified a location, what is being deleted when the check box for "Delete Product Allocations" is ticked? and what is being done if the check box for "Check Product Allocation Assignment" is ticked?
Thanks in advance for any response.
    Regards,
    Philip

    Dear Philip,
Find below few points about this transaction.
    1. check is normally carried out before an order is deleted to see if this order still exists in liveCache. If this is the case, the order is not deleted.
    2. You can also print out a list of the orders that cannot be deleted if you have set the relevant indicator.
    3. In exceptional cases, you can deactivate this check and nevertheless still delete the selected orders.
    4. If you have set the Delete all orders indicator, the order data from the database is completely deleted without any check. You should take great care when using this function.
    5. A location product or a location can only be deleted if SD sales documents for this location product no longer exist in the database (that is, if, for example, no more entries exist in the tables /SAPAPO/ORDADM_I or /SAPAPO/ORDPART).
    Regards,
    Siva.

  • Database options under UCM

With regard to this thread: Few interesting facts about database under UCM 10g what Oracle database options can be effectively used under UCM? The comprehensive overview of the options can be obtained here: http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/index.html
Real Application Clusters* - this option can be used to increase the database performance and availability. It is fully transparent to applications.
Partitioning* - this option can affect performance, enable hierarchical storage management (using cheaper hardware to store large amount of data) and help with disaster recovery (backup/restore). I believe, if documents are stored in the database, this option is a must. Even if a project does not use HSM, partitioning of large tables such as FILESTORAGE will enable: a) faster backups - once a partition is "closed", it will not change - therefore, future backups can work only with "open" partitions and unpartitioned data; b) faster restores - large tables can only be partially restored - e.g. few "last months" and the system can be running whilst restoring the remaining data. Watch out for partitioning of metadata tables, though (DOCMETA, REVISIONS, DOCUMENTS)! At least, there are no clear criteria how these tables should be partitioned - and various checks and validations may actually require to have those tables restored fully before you may perform such basic operations like check-in.
Advance Security* and Database Vault* - these options may increase security, when content is stored in the database (no one, not even administrators might be able to reach the content unless authorized). The only drawback to that is that even if content is stored in the database, in initial phases it is anyway stored in the filesystem (vault), too, and the minimum retention period is 1 day
I will also mention two options that might look appetizing, but UCM probably does not benefit from them too much:
Advanced Compression* - compresses data in the database. This, and Hybric Columnar Compression used in Exadata, can do the real magic when working with structured data (just read a report from Turkcell, who compressed 600 TB to 50 TB, which means by 12). For unstructured data, such as PDF or JPEG, the effect might be very small, though. Still, if you have a chance, give it a try.
Active Data Guard* - Data Guard is a technology for disaster recovery. Advantage of Active Data Guard is that it allows using of the secondary location for read only operations, rather than leaving it idle (stand-by); this means, you might decrease sizing of both locations. With UCM, also do not forget about CONTENT TRACKER (which might require a "write" operation even for otherwise read only ones, such as DOC_INFO, GET_SEARCH_RESULTS, or retrieving a content item), but db gurus know how to handle even that. Unfortunately, Active Data Guard cannot be used with UCM at the moment, because not all the data is stored in the database and the secondary location might not be fully synchronized.
In my opinion, other options are not so relevant for a UCM solution.

Compression and Deduplication of SecureFiles LOBs, which is part of the Advanced Compression Option, can potentially deliver huge space savings, and performance benefits. If the content is primarily Office documents, or XML documents, or character-based (email?), then it will likely compress very well. Also, if the same file is stored multiple times, deduplication will cause the Oracle database to store only one copy, rather than storing the same document multiple times. There's more info on Advanced Compression here: http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/advanced-compression/index.html

  • Manually delete a database

    Hi everybody,
on this forum i cannot find a procedure to manually delete a DB.
I've got 2 database installed on a Linux server and i'd like to get rid of one..
What can I do to completely delete a database?
I haven't got any utilities (like dbca)..
Hope somebody can help me, thanks in advance!

You have not said why you need to manually delete it. Also you did not state your Oracle release.
You can use DROP DATABASE command. This will drop the database, deletes all control files and all datafiles. If you are using spfile, it will delete it. Archivelogs and Backups are not deleted with this command, but you can then use RMAN or your Operating System command to delete all archivelogs and backups where required.
    e.g
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    SQL> STARTUP MOUNT;
    SQL> DROP DATABASE;

  • Solman 7.1; delete old database from SMSY

We have done upgrade to solman 7.1 . So we use SMSY with datasource LMDB now.
In former times the database host of some SAP-systems  were changed.
So we have some old obsolete entries like database <SID>_0001 in SMSY (sent by SLD BEFORE the solman upgrade.
If we try to delete old entry in SMSY-> databases by right mouse click , system opens the LMDB maintenance, because maintenance should normally done in LMDB.  There is no database <SID>_0001 in LMDB and the SLDs  - only the correct  System <SID> with database <SID> with correct server data.
How can we properly delete the obsolete entries in SMSY ?
In the LM Db Setup Guide I only found some troubleshooting for sync problems between LMDB and SLD, but not how to delete manually in SMSY in SM 7.1. Any ideas ?

    I have solved the problem.
The obsolete database was only in SMSY and NOT in SLD + LMDB - so no deletion possible in SMSY and LMDB (as suggested by community)
The obsolete database <SID>_0001 was not used by any SAP system in SMSY.
I used the workaround of creating a dummy database system with the obsolete name in LMDB for later deletion  and sync to SMSY.
    steps:
I create a new technical system  in LMDB: select type " Database system" instead of default "ABAP ....."
    Identification of technical system:
    databasename: <SID>_0001
databasehost:  you can use the correct server if you like
    databasetype: DB2, oracle, etc...
    Next screen (identification technical system):
extended systemname: SID>_0001 (change it to the value you want to delete in SMSY.  My solman suggested <SID>00001)
    Save
Optional: In next screen you can adapt the description of the system, which will be displayed in SMSY very quickly!
Then delete system from LMDB => deletion of database will be synchonized into SMSY.
    Work done.

    Hi,
if you want to enable or disable any option or field in SRM portal find the web component of the field by right clicking on it, Then enhance the web component and in the post exit of WDModify_view add the code for enabling or disabling the field.

  • Delete the database

    Hello frnds
In my test server I have to delete my database including all tablespaces and datafiles everything and create the new database with new character set which i need ,
So i just need a sujjestion which is best method to delete a old database ...
simply delete all the files from Operating system or is there any safe method to delete database
    environment:
    OS: Sunsolaris 10
    database:10g R2
your sujjestions will be valuable for me
    thanks

    Hi!
It's completely up to you how you delete a database. You may do it with OS rm command without any problems. Another way that is as safe as the rm command is the database configuration assistant that is also able to delete your DB. It is also possible to delete your DB with the DROP DATABASE commando from SQL*Plus. As I know there is no big difference in all three ways. My favorite way to drop a database is the DBCA because it is easy to use.
    yours sincerely

how to delete oracle database from OEM?
    regards
    wire

You can't delete the database from OEM.
You can do it either manually or using DBCA (database configuration assistant) utility supplied by oracle.
I believe 10g has drop database command.
