Encoding error when attempting to burn dvd using iDVD

I made a movie out of a slide-show I made in iPhoto using iMovie. I then went to share-media browser-large. Once that was completed I went to iDVD and selected the movie in the menu to the left, then drug it to the idvd menu screen and it added the movie. I added some photos and music to the menu screen as well. I then clicked on the burn symbol at the bottom and it began burning then I got an error message saying "error during encoding/rendering. Burning terminated." I had at least 90 GB remaining in my hard drive. Is there a defect in this software? I would like to get to the root of the problem. Please help.

How much space is available on the boot drive?
Ensure all your software is up to date (Apple Menu > Software Update).
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches (I remove the whole folder. It will be re-generated upon restart.)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iDVD (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
If the issue persists I would try a brand new project with different content added (say a still image and a slideshow in iDVD) and save as disk image again. Just to make sure iDVD itself is working.

    Hi Patrick,
Welcome to Apple Discussions. I see you're a new member. Hope you're enjoying your new Mac Pro. What are you trying to burn to exactly?  I use Verbatim Dvd-R with excellent results. If you are using a higher quality media like Verbatim, Maxell, or Taiyo Yuden but to no avail then I need to ask if you have first tried making a disc image from the file menu in iDvd and then playing back said image with apple's dvd player app (prior to burning to Dvd-R).
This approach helps us narrow down the issue so we can better assist you.

  • Sense Code 0X00023A02 error when attempting to burn RW

Hello. I am recieving this error when attempting to burn from to a DVD-RW or a DVD+RW. I know the first thing that is going to be mentioned is additional software such as on the "things to avoid" list when burning DVD's, however, I have all versions of Encore that have been produced, so I simply uninstalled 2.0 which was giving me the error code, and installed 1.5 and was able to burn a project with the same exact disc. I uninstalled no other software and did nothing else, besides rebooted, which I always do when I install and uninstall my applications. Therefore my thinking is that it is within Encore. It also with another RW in 2.0 states that it cannot erase the disc even if I do not have auto erase selected, and the disc was previously erased with Nero. I am actually sort of angry because I purchased a new burner to test out this error that I was recieving, and while I can indeed return the burner, I noticed others are being advised to check other software they have on their system. I have none of the software listed on the detrimental applications that may interfere with the burning process and I also now have (2) less than a year old burners along with a "not soo inexpensive" application that in essence does not work in a way I need it to. Yes, I can uninstall 2.0 and simply use 1.5, but I should not have to do this. And though I know this is not going to be answered by Adobe techs, please take note that the burn "Does complete without error simply by uninstalling 2.0 and installing 1.5 and creating the same exact project with the same source files". Therefore there is something within 2.0 causing these errors.

Neil and Jeff, thanks for the response. I am running a 965P chipset board and my PATA is connected via the JMicron controller, so my drive do not appear this way. It only shows the General, AutoPlay, Hardware and Sharing tabs. This is something that is an issue with this chipset from what I am being told. However, if this were the case(and god no man, no roxio installed on the system), shouldn't it be interfering with 1.5 burning the project also? This is why I am soo set it being 2.0 since 1.5 burned the project with no issue whatsoever. It's only in 2.0 that it is stating this error with the +RW or with the -RW it is stating that the disc cannot be erased. I understand completely what you all are saying, but I honestly do not believe this is the issue since one version of Encore will work and the other will not, unless something has changed in Encore 2.0. I understand that it was pretty much re-written(I was on the beta myself), but at that point, I never needed to use RW's, so I did not test with them, otherwise I would have reported it.
I cannot even get into the drive for recording via the Device Manager, so changing this option is not a possiblity. It is unfortunate that from what I have seen only one mfg makes a SATA dvd burner, and from what I have read, it isn't that great of one.
I am just at this point lost and wondering if I should simply return the burner I purchased and buy an external USB 2.0 unit and see if it works with that. What do you all think?

Me: title of error is    Unable to Download
Me: i dont see how that would be an adobe problem?
Charles P.: I understand, but it appears that the reason for the download issue is because of the license error the license is related to the Adobe Digital editions software. I understand how this could be confusing but it's due to the authorization of the ADE software. Adobe would need to correct your account issue with the license
Me: ok but i thought this was a free license from adobe??!!  this is just a digital editions reader, right??
Charles P.: That is correct it is a free license but your account has to be associated with one license and yes the Digital edition is a ebook reader that our ebooks use for you to view

Well, just for the halibut I tried opening the book again today and , GLORY BE!,  it worked.
Guess it may have taken overnight for Adobe to OK my license to their free ADE software. Also works now using Bluefire app as the reader on my android phone, although it was a pain

  • Error when trying to burn DVD

    Hi
I get this error (repeatedly) when trying to burn DVD recently.
    Error code 0x80020022
Burning disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed.
It's self explanatory I know, but what am I supposed to do about it? Is it a problem with my hardware?. I can't see the icon for my disc drive in Disc Utility to check it.
I've shut down and restarted, tried different DVDs, they're all DVD-R although I did try at first with a DVD +RW and hope this hasn't caused some damage.
    Hope someone can help thanks.
I'm having loads of problems creating iDVDs as well. But I think I need to resolve issues one at a time....
    Helen

Hi Helen - here are some general purpose iDVD tips that may address some of your unspecified troubles. In terms of communication troubles, could your hard drive be going to sleep, or screensaver kick in and interrupt the process?
    General tips:
Do something small first; get some experience before you need to do a big project.
Lots of memory helps; and you'll need 10-15 gigs of space on the hard drive for scratch space.
Buy good quality disks - I've seen recommendations for Maxell, Sony, TDK and a few others based on testing. I primarily use the first two and usually don't have trouble.
    Give yourself lots of time.
Turn off your screen savers and energy savers; don't let your hard drive go to sleep.
Get your computer healthy and ready for some heavy lifting. (video work could be the hardest job your computer can do) MacJanitor and Apple's DiskUtility's Repair Permissions is my routine.
Most of the time iDVD is working, it is encoding (compressing) your video to fit on the DVD. Create an image .img file (patchburn for iDVD 4 and older) and use Toast or Disk Utility to burn it to disk. Burn slow (1 or 2x) and let it cool down.
I keep my projects under 60 minutes (for highest resolution).
Try testers; you can use DVD-RW
I import into iDVD rather than export from iMovie (fewer errors).
    No other apps open.
Let it encode and burn while you go to bed; it can take awhile, esp. on older Macs. Don't quit iDVD even when the DVD is burned, until you've played the DVD in a regular player (it's much easier to burn another disk and check to see if the problem was a bad disk, than to go back through all that encoding again by quitting iDVD).

  • What does error message when trying to burn DVD from iDVD mean "not enough disk space to burn the remaining assets"

I created a DVD in idvd and now when trying to burn to DVD using external burner, I get the error message
"not enough disk space to encode the remaining assets". I am using a brand new blank DVD.
I have read the help info on computer but hasnt proved helpful.
    Any suggestions?

iDVD requires a fair amount of disk space to carry out the encoding process; depending on your project, you may need to have over 25 GB free space on your startup hard drive.  How much free space do you have?

  • Multiplexer error message when trying to burn DVD in iDVD

When I try to burn a DVD in iDVD, at the end of the burning process, I get a message that reads "Multiplexer Error" "There was an error during formatting".
Can anyone out there give me advice on how to remedy this?
    Thanks!

When iDVD isn't functioning correctly, a basic maintenance procedure to try is:
    1) Closing iDVD and trashing the file com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User/Library/Preferences.
    2) Doing a permissions repair using the Disk Utilities app on your Mac.
Instead of burning directly from iDVD, try saving as a disk image (an option in the iDVD File menu). This will take a while as the encoding is redone. If you get a successful disk image, open it in your DVD Player app to check it out. If all O.K. burn it at a burn speed of 4x or less with Disk Utility to a DVD-R disk of good quality, like Verbatim or HP. On my computer, Disk Utility defaults to 4x burn speed, which is good.
See if any of the above helps.

  • "Medium Write Error" when trying to burn DVD

i have recently been receiving the message "medium write error" every time I try to burn a DVD in my mac book pro 13 inch  It doesn't matter which program I use to burn, they all give me the same (or similar) message. I also tried booting into Windows and burning from there using ImgBrn it and it was
    succeed
the program went from "preparing disk" to writing to  "finishing", ejected the disk and made the usual error and it looks like it don't start writing as when i put the dvd back the dvd is still empty
I used to burn these disks perfectly well with no problems, before i install lion i don't know if this is lion problem or what
i also tried to attempt to reset the PRAM.  by holding down CMD+Option+P+R while booting MBP and waiting until it chimes a second time to let go of those keys.i haven't changed anything so don't understand why the error occurs. I've bought a lens cleaner disk and ran that for 2-3 minutes and repaired permissions on the HD but that didn't work either. The drive works flawlessly reading DVDs and CDs with no problem no problems.
any one can help please ????

    Sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand this.
It doesn't matter which program I use to burn, they all give me the same (or similar) message.
The problem is that it's not relevant if the programmes use the same burn engine (eg, iTunes and Finder). You need to test apps which do not use Apple's burn engine, eg, cdrdao, cdrecord, Burn, LiquidCD, Disco, Roxio Toast, NTI DragonBurn, etc. But, FWIW, my bet is not on a software issue.

  • I keep getting encoding errors when trying to burn a disc

I created an iphoto slideshow and then shared it to idvd.
every time that i try and burn to a dvd it goes for about 4 to 5 hours and then gives me " there was an encoding error"
I checked the encoding settings and made sure to set it to just high quality but same issue occurs
    Any ideas?

    Hi
    A. try to split the process into two parts
    • Encoding part
    • Burning part
by - instead of press burn key - go up to File and down to
    • Save as a DiskImage
    • then burn this .img file with Disk Util tool
    B. What did the Error Messages read ?
Very helpful to get this info - to be able to give any true help at all. There are zillions of things to guess.

  • Itunes authorization error when attempting to burn idvd file

The software updates should take care of it, but I got this help from the ilife team at Apple. If you encounter "your computer is not authorized to play this song" error messages when trying to burn an idvd movie, it may be because the file contains music you downloaded from itunes. This fixed everything: Go to the apple.com and go to the apple store. Go to "Account." Go to "Change 1-click settings." Make sure 1-click setting is turned on. Then go to the itunes store though the itunes page, and authorize 1-click ordering and ensure that all of your account information is correct in the itunes store.
That fixed all of my issues.
    Good luck!

alright, i added new ram, so i am running 2 gigs now, tried again...failed. i get all the way to burn and a popup comes up saying burning finished errors found during the burning process, i click ok and the burning wheel is still turning and i need to force quit to get out of idvd. i might go crazy, so any help is appreciated.

  • Seq Header Duplication error when trying to burn dvd

I am using DVD Studio Pro 4
    Mac OS 10.49
I imported a 36 minute QT video edited in FCP to DVDSP. When I try to burn a DVD, I get an error message that reads, " Seq Header Duplincation. I cannot figure out the problem.
Incidently, the 30 minute DVD seems to contain 7.4 GB on my hard drive, but DVDSP converts it to 3GB automatically. Does this sound customary?
    Thanks,

ocfilmmaker, I hear you. I am trying to run DVD Studio Pro on my new Mac Pro under Leopard and I am having nothing but problems. It always worked fine on my G5 iMac. First, it won't recognize my DVD burner (there have been several posts about that) and now I'm seeing the "Seq Header Duplication" error, with no further explanation. My video is already encoded. I don't know whether it is the Xeon, Leopard, or the latest build - but this thing is useless right now.

  • Transcoding error when trying to burn dvd

Hi, I created a slide show in pse7 and sent it to pe7 to burn a dvd. I keep getting transcoding error. Could you please help?

    Debbie,
Is this your first expereince using the workflow of Photoshop and Premiere Elements to make a slide show? If yes, I realize that Premiere Elements can be confusing at first (been there: been thru that) so I am trying to keep my instructions as straight forward as possible.
I numbered my specific questions so you can respond by number :
    1-- for the
    b resolution of the images
that Allen requested : if they came from a digital camera, it may be simplest to post how many megapixels in the photos that your camera takes ?
    2-- aproximately
    b how many photos
are in this slide show ?
    3-- what is the
b duration of the slide show
as shown by the Photoshop Elements slide show editor? (the duration is found to the left of the controls for playing the Preview within the slide show editor)
4-- from the PSE slide show editor Output command, did you choose
b "Burn to Disc - DVD"
    or did you choose
    b "Send to Premiere Elements"?
Do you know how to do the "render your slideshow" that Allen suggested?
Across the bottom of the Premiere Elements window, you should see either a Timeline or a Sceneline.
-- Within that area, Click on the word "Timeline" that is in the upper left of that specific panel/section of the screen. This will put you in the Timeline view.
--Click (left click) on the clip that you see in the Timeline and then next hit the Enter key.
-- As the clip is being rendered, you will see a popup showing progress and a line above the clip that was red will start turning green. If rendering completes successfully, that entire line will become green.

  • Vibration, error when attempting to burn CD

I've had this 13" MacBook Pro for about a year. I've always had some trouble with burning CD's. Now it's gotten to the point where I am lucky if I can burn one without a failure (maybe 1 out of 3 success). I know I have to do something, but need this computer on a daily basis. There is a very loud vibrating noise, and then after some time, a failure. What it says about my disc burning is below. Before I take it to service, is there anything that I might do to correct the problem? I already tried setting the burn speed to 16x and 12x, helped once then not.
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N:
    Firmware Revision: SB03
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh

    Hi
is there anything that I might do to correct the problem?
assuming that you're not working through a batch of bad discs & have tried another brand - then no, it sounds like a problem with the optical drive.

  • Cannot burn DVD (using iDVD, and iMac G5 with Superdrive)

Hi. I'm trying to burn an iMovie onto a DVD-R (16x). I have an iMac G5 w/ Superdrive (PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K04F). I have plenty of available disc space. iDVD goes through the entire burn process, then at the very end it spits out the disc with these errors:
The recording device reported the error #8: No additional sense information. (0x00, 0x00.)
The recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)
Can someone PLEASE help me? What am I doing wrong?
    THANK YOU!

Could be the brand of media you are using. Most users here find the most reliable to be Verbatim DVD-R.
Also, try burning at a lower speed.
Using 16x DVD media is fine - in fact it is difficult to buy any other - but there is a consensus in the Apple Support Forums that a slower burn is a better burn and that the most reliable brands are Verbatim, Maxell and Fuji, all DVD-R, burned at 2x or 4x (slow burns are better burns!). I always use Toast for burning.
I generally use Verbatim and when I can't get those, Fuji, and have never had a coaster from either.
Plenty of coasters in the early days from Sony, TDK and a few others.
The term "Best" means the fastest speed that the drive told Toast it can write to a specific disc. The drive's firmware and info on the disc decide what speed burns are available. When you press the speed setting button in Toast (after inserting a disc) you'll likely see some speeds in italics and some in bold face. The ones in bold face are supported by that media on that drive. The fastest one is what Toast calls Best.
Audio CDs in particular should be burned at the lowest supported speed.
Verification is a good indicator the disc is burned okay. However, other DVD players can still have problems with the disc. Media problems with various drives is not uncommon. Slower burning may reduce the chance of those problems, and is one of the reasons why RW (read/write) media is always rated slower than DVD-R.
There are some interesting facts here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm and here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm
But many will tell you that the 'slower burn is best' theory is outdated. Who really knows? At the end of the day, if your home-made DVD was verified by Toast and will play anywhere on anybody's DVD player, then that is the result we are all after!
