Encoding in apex

hi !
i create application whit 1 report page thae get data from a table .
this table has charactor set WE8ISO8859P1 and when application build , the web browser can't display , and when i change encoding of my browser to arabic(windows) i can view my reasult, what can i do ???
i want that when application run , set view encoding of my browser to ,arabic(windows), by default,
this is charactorset that i need to set = ar8mswin1256

With a WE8MSWIN1252 (or comparable charset) database, fronted by APEX listener, and the absense of NVARCHAR2 support in APEX, is there an option to build an APEX application supporting UTF-8 characters anyway, without converting the whole database to UTF-8?
As "Application Builder User’s Guide" is quite tight-lipped when it comes to UTF-8 support, can somebody recommend an APEX FAQ concerning UTF-8 support in APEX?
Thanks and regards, Tom

  • How to set encoding in Apex Listener

    I have a problem conversion characters when using Apex listener
    The problem occurs in two different configurations:
    1. APEX Listener 2.0 running on GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.0 Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.3.0 (NLS_LANGUAGE: AMERICAN, NLS_CHARACTERSET: AL32UTF8)
    2 . APEX Listener 2.0 running in standalone mode Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 (NLS_LANGUAGE: AMERICAN, NLS_CHARACTERSET: AL32UTF8)
    to demonstrate the problem I created a restful service, which is in the GET method returns the result of the query :
    select: p_param as "result" from dual
    parameter : p_param transmitted via http header
    parameter : p_param set to 'sample data дф ' , the last two characters - Cyrillic
    Http Request is as follows:
    GET http://xxx.xx.xxx.xxx:8080/apex/encode HTTP/1.1
    Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
    param: sample data дф
    Host: xxx.xx.xxx.xxx: 8080
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    User-Agent: Apache-HttpClient/4.1.1 (java 1.5)
    in both cases, the return value - <result> sample data 4D </ result>
    I could not find documentation on how to avoid re-encoding?

  • What XML encoding do I use to get APEX to import an XML file?

    Environment:
    APEX 3.1.1.00.09 on AIX 5.3
    SQL Developer 1.5.5 on Windows XP Pro SP3
    Oracle 10.2.0.2 EE on AIX 5.3
    Trying to import an XML file generated from SQL Developer into a table using APEX Import utility.
    I'm getting the error: ORA-19200: Invalid column specification
    All I've done is exported the EMP table from SQL Developer (v. 1.5.5) into an XML file and then tried to load into an empty EMP table in the database (10.2.0.2) using APEX and the Data Load Utility.
    I've tried creating the XML file using different encodings out of SQL Developer but so far an still getting the above error.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Scott
    First of all I was successful in exporting and re-importing the EMP table to and from APEX.
    When I exported the EMP table in XML format using SQL Developer, the resulting XML looked very different from the same data exported from APEX. My APEX exported XML looked just like yours. Here are the first 3 rows of the XML file exported from SQL Developer. I'm NOT an XML person so I can't judge whether or not this is valid XML but I can tell you that it doesn't import into an empty EMP table through APEX. I can control the encoding type in SQL Developer and have tried several different flavors.
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>

  • Capture Web Cam image in APEX and Upload into the Database

    Overview
    By using a flash object, you should be able to interface with a usb web cam connected to the client machine. Their are a couple of open source ones that I know about, but the one I chose to go with is by Taboca Labs and is called CamCanvas. This is released under the MIT license, and it is at version 0.2, so not very mature - but in saying that it seems to do the trick. The next part is to upload a snapshot into the database - in this particular implementation, it is achieved by taking a snapshot, and putting that data into the canvas object. This is a new HTML5 element, so I am not certain what the IE support would be like. Once you have the image into the canvas, you can then use the provided function convertToDataURL() to convert the image into a Base64 encoded string, which you can then use to convert into to a BLOB. There is however one problem with the Base64 string - APEX has a limitation of 32k for and item value, so can't be submitted by normal means, and a workaround (AJAX) has to be implemented.
    Part 1. Capturing the Image from the Flash Object into the Canvas element
    Set up the Page
    Required Files
    Download the tarball of the webcam library from: https://github.com/taboca/CamCanvas-API-/tarball/master
    Upload the necessary components to your application. (The flash swf file can be got from one of the samples in the Samples folder. In the root of the tarball, there is actually a swf file, but this seems to be a different file than of what is in the samples - so I just stick with the one from the samples)
    Page Body
    Create a HTML region, and add the following:
        <div class="container">
           <object  id="iembedflash" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"
    codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" width="320" height="240">
                <param name="movie" value="#APP_IMAGES#camcanvas.swf" />
                <param name="quality" value="high" />
              <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" />
                <embed  allowScriptAccess="always"  id="embedflash" src="#APP_IMAGES#camcanvas.swf" quality="high" width="320" height="240"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" mayscript="true"  />
        </object>
        </div>
    <p><a href="javascript:captureToCanvas()">Capture</a></p>
    <canvas style="border:1px solid yellow"  id="canvas" width="320" height="240"></canvas>That will create the webcam container, and an empty canvas element for the captured image to go into.
    Also, have a hidden unprotected page item to store the Base64 code into - I called mine P2_IMAGE_BASE64
    HTML Header and Body Attribute
    Add the Page HTML Body Attribute as:
    onload="init(320,240)"
    JavaScript
    Add the following in the Function and Global Variable Declarations for the page (mostly taken out of the samples provided)
    //Camera relations functions
    var gCtx = null;
    var gCanvas = null;
    var imageData = null;
    var ii=0;
    var jj=0;
    var c=0;
    function init(ww,hh){
         gCanvas = document.getElementById("canvas");
         var w = ww;
         var h = hh;
         gCanvas.style.width = w + "px";
         gCanvas.style.height = h + "px";
         gCanvas.width = w;
         gCanvas.height = h;
         gCtx = gCanvas.getContext("2d");
         gCtx.clearRect(0, 0, w, h);
         imageData = gCtx.getImageData( 0,0,320,240);
    function passLine(stringPixels) {
         //a = (intVal >> 24) & 0xff;
         var coll = stringPixels.split("-");
         for(var i=0;i<320;i++) {
              var intVal = parseInt(coll);
              r = (intVal >> 16) & 0xff;
              g = (intVal >> 8) & 0xff;
              b = (intVal ) & 0xff;
              imageData.data[c+0]=r;
              imageData.data[c+1]=g;
              imageData.data[c+2]=b;
              imageData.data[c+3]=255;
              c+=4;
         if(c>=320*240*4) {
              c=0;
              gCtx.putImageData(imageData, 0,0);
    function captureToCanvas() {
         flash = document.getElementById("embedflash");
         flash.ccCapture();
         var canvEle = document.getElementById('canvas');
         $s('P2_IMAGE_BASE64', canvEle.toDataURL());//Assumes hidden item name is P2_IMAGE_BASE64
         clob_Submit();//this is a part of part (AJAX submit value to a collection) two
    }In the footer region of the page (which is just a loading image to show whilst the data is being submitted to the collection [hidden by default]) :<img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#processing3.gif" id="AjaxLoading"
    style="display:none;position:absolute;left:45%;top:45%;padding:10px;border:2px solid black;background:#FFF;" />If you give it a quick test, you should be able to see the webcam feed and capture it into the canvas element by clicking the capture link, in between the two elements - it might through a JS error since the clob_Submit() function does not exist yet.
    *Part 2. Upload the image into the Database*
    As mentioned in the overview, the main limitation is that APEX can't submit values larger than 32k, which I hope the APEX development team will be fixing this limitation in a future release, the workaround isn't really good from a maintainability perspective.
    In the sample applications, there is one that demonstrates saving values to the database that are over 32k, which uses an AJAX technique: see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/packaged-apps-090453.html#LARGE.
    *Required Files*
    From the sample application, there is a script you need to upload, and reference in your page. So you can either install the sample application I linked to, or grab the script from the demonstration I have provided - its called apex_save_large.js.
    *Create a New Page*
    Create a page to Post the large value to (I created mine as 1000), and create the following process, with the condition that Request = SAVE. (All this is in the sample application for saving large values).declare
         l_code clob := empty_clob;
    begin
         dbms_lob.createtemporary( l_code, false, dbms_lob.SESSION );
         for i in 1..wwv_flow.g_f01.count loop
              dbms_lob.writeappend(l_code,length(wwv_flow.g_f01(i)),wwv_flow.g_f01(i));
         end loop;
         apex_collection.create_or_truncate_collection(p_collection_name => wc_pkg_globals.g_base64_collection);
         apex_collection.add_member(p_collection_name => wc_pkg_globals.g_base64_collection,p_clob001 => l_code);
         htmldb_application.g_unrecoverable_error := TRUE;
    end;I also created a package for storing the collection name, which is referred to in the process, for the collection name:create or replace
    package
    wc_pkg_globals
    as
    g_base64_collection constant varchar2(40) := 'BASE64_IMAGE';
    end wc_pkg_globals;That is all that needs to be done for page 1000. You don't use this for anything else, *so go back to edit the camera page*.
    *Modify the Function and Global Variable Declarations* (to be able to submit large values.)
    The below again assumes the item that you want to submit has an item name of 'P2_IMAGE_BASE64', the condition of the process on the POST page is request = SAVE, and the post page is page 1000. This has been taken srtaight from the sample application for saving large values.//32K Limit workaround functions
    function clob_Submit(){
              $x_Show('AjaxLoading')
              $a_PostClob('P2_IMAGE_BASE64','SAVE','1000',clob_SubmitReturn);
    function clob_SubmitReturn(){
              if(p.readyState == 4){
                             $x_Hide('AjaxLoading');
                             $x('P2_IMAGE_BASE64').value = '';
              }else{return false;}
    function doSubmit(r){
    $x('P2_IMAGE_BASE64').value = ''
         flowSelectAll();
         document.wwv_flow.p_request.value = r;
         document.wwv_flow.submit();
    }Also, reference the script that the above code makes use of, in the page header<script type="text/javascript" src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#apex_save_large.js"></script>Assuming the script is located in workspace images, and not associated to a specific app. Other wise reference #APP_IMAGES#
    *Set up the table to store the images*CREATE TABLE "WC_SNAPSHOT"
    "WC_SNAPSHOT_ID" NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
    "BINARY" BLOB,
    CONSTRAINT "WC_SNAPSHOT_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("WC_SNAPSHOT_ID")
    create sequence seq_wc_snapshot start with 1 increment by 1;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "BI_WC_SNAPSHOT" BEFORE
    INSERT ON WC_SNAPSHOT FOR EACH ROW BEGIN
    SELECT seq_wc_snapshot.nextval INTO :NEW.wc_snapshot_id FROM dual;
    END;
    Then finally, create a page process to save the image:declare
    v_image_input CLOB;
    v_image_output BLOB;
    v_buffer NUMBER := 64;
    v_start_index NUMBER := 1;
    v_raw_temp raw(64);
    begin
    --discard the bit of the string we dont need
    select substr(clob001, instr(clob001, ',')+1, length(clob001)) into v_image_input
    from apex_collections
    where collection_name = wc_pkg_globals.g_base64_collection;
    dbms_lob.createtemporary(v_image_output, true);
    for i in 1..ceil(dbms_lob.getlength(v_image_input)/v_buffer) loop
    v_raw_temp := utl_encode.base64_decode(utl_raw.cast_to_raw(dbms_lob.substr(v_image_input, v_buffer, v_start_index)));
    dbms_lob.writeappend(v_image_output, utl_raw.length(v_raw_temp),v_raw_temp);
    v_start_index := v_start_index + v_buffer;
    end loop;
    insert into WC_SNAPSHOT (binary) values (v_image_output); commit;
    end;Create a save button - add some sort of validation to make sure the hidden item has a value (i.e. image has been captured). Make the above conditional for request = button name so it only runs when you click Save (you probably want to disable this button until the data has been completely submitted to the collection - I haven't done this in the demonstration).
    Voila, you should have now be able to capture the image from a webcam. Take a look at the samples from the CamCanvas API for extra effects if you wanted to do something special.
    And of course, all the above assumed you want a resolution of 320 x 240 for the image.
    Disclaimer: At time of writing, this worked with a logitech something or rather webcam, and is completely untested on IE.
    Check out a demo: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=trents_demos:webcam_i (my image is a bit blocky, but i think its just my webcam. I've seen others that are much more crisp using this) Also, just be sure to wait for the progress bar to dissappear before clicking Save.

    Hmm, maybe for some reason you aren't getting the base64 version of the saved image? Is the collection getting the full base64 string? Seems like its not getting any if its no data found.
    The javascript console is your friend.
    Also, in the example i used an extra page, from what one of the examples on apex packages apps had. But since then, I found this post by Carl: http://carlback.blogspot.com/2008/04/new-stuff-4-over-head-with-clob.html - I would use this technique for submitting the clob, over what I have done - as its less hacky. Just sayin.

  • Flash contents not being displayed on the published Apex application URL

    I've had to publish one of my apex application through an bluecoat proxy to reach my Oracle HTTP server. It works fantastic for everything - except my flash charts. Flash contents are not getting loaded.Issue is only in the published application URL,the same application is working fine internally without proxy.
    Does anyone have any idea why this is failing and how I might fix this?.The bluecoat support enginner is having the following findings
    I am seeing some strange behavior when the browser goes through the
    proxy vs when it does not.
    When the browser uses the proxy the last thing it requests is the
    following(packet 354):
    GET /i/themes/theme_20/btn-bg.gif HTTP/1.1 Via: 1.1 GITS6ISA Cookie:
    WWV_CUSTOM-F_941005998277888_193=7DE31ABFD8D9E680 User-Agent:

    That is the browser requests
    http://ithelpdesk.anupcomp.ae/i/themes/theme_20/btn-bg.gif and gets a
    200 ok from the proxy/server.
    When the browser does not use the proxy I see the following
    behavior(packet 2783):
    The browser requests
    http://anupserver:7777/i/themes/theme_20/btn-bg.gif 2 times, each time
    the server responds with a 304 not modified status, this means the
    browser has the most recent copy of the .gif file. The browser finally
    does a post to http://anupserver:7777/pls/apex/wwv_flow.accept. Given
    that the browser gets a 200 ok response from the proxy when requesting
    http://ithelpdesk.anupcomp.ae/i/themes/theme_20/btn-bg.gif and then
    stops requesting data, we need to understand why the browser is behaving
    differently without the proxy(i.e. why does it request the content 2
    times and why is it doing the post). The interaction between the
    browser and the proxy appears normal, a 200 ok response with content is
    normal, why does the browser stop requesting content?

    Hello Orton,
    I think this has something to do with network access, may be a firewall restricting access to the server.
    Thanks,

  • Apex-config.xml is broken after password change with encryption

    Greetings,
    I am using Apex Listener 1.1 with Oracle GlassFish Open Source Edition 3.1.
    I found something strange when changing the connection password in apex-config.xml.
    If I change the password to keep it plain text like the following, it works fine.
    <entry key="apex.db.password">my_password</entry>
    But if I change the password to a value to be encrypted, the new password is accepted but the configuration file get messed up.
    <entry key="apex.db.password">!my_password2</entry>
    After restarting the listener, I get the following content in my apex-config.xml.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE properties SYSTEM "http://java.sun.com/dtd/properties.dtd">
    <properties>
    <comment> Updated: Mon Mar 14 10:58:16 EDT 2011 Version: 1.1.0.60.10.38 </comment>
    </properties>
    Needless to say that after the next restart nothing works. Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

    You have corrupted your web.xml somehow, repeat the steps making sure the web.xml is well formed.

  • Apex Listener prints ### instead of cyrillic symbols

    Hi everybody!
    Apex listener (2.0.4/) prints ### insead of cyryllic symbols when printing to PDF from APEX.
    In Glassfish log I found next entries:

    I have tried other fonts (Times-Roman and Courier), but result is the same.
    Can anybody answer how to teach Apex Listener to work with cyrillic symbols?
    My system is: Windows XP SP3, Glassfish 4, Apex Listener 2.0.4, Apex 4.2.3., Oracle XE 11g.

    Finnaly, with help from other forums, solution is found:
    1. In defaults.xml add entry:
    <entry key="fop.configfile">C:\some_path\fop.xml</entry>
    2. In fop.xml:
    <fop version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8">
    <renderers>
       <renderer mime="application/pdf">
       <filterList>
       <value>flate</value>
       </filterList>
    <fonts>
    <directory>C:\WINDOWS\FONTS</directory>
    <auto-detect/>
    </fonts>
       <stroke-text>false</stroke-text>
       </renderer>
    </renderers>
    </fop>
    3. restart glassfish.

  • APEX Listener 2.0 - RESTful Services Failure with  404 - Not Found

    Versions used:
    * APEX Listener 2.0.0.354.17.05
    * Application Express 4.2.1.00.08
    * Oracle Database 11.2.0.1
    When testing the sample RESTful Service Module oracle.example.hr I always get 404 - Not Found page.
    I followed the documentation to install and configure APEX 4.2 and the Listener 2.0. Everything in my APEX installation works fine except RESTful Services.
    For example, when calling this RESTful Service:
    http://company.com:45678/apex/DEV/xxuapex/hr/empinfo/
    I get a 404 page.
    The corresponding entry in url-mapping.xml is:
    <pool base-path="/DEV" name="od01" workspace-id="xxuapex"/>
    where xxuapex is the name of the schema as well as the workspace where the RESTful Service is installed.
    Moreover, the corresponding od01.xml, od01_rt.xml and od01_al.xml in the conf directory seem correct.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Eddie Awad.

    Hi Eddie,
    +> try the other option base-url of the url-mapping+
    I did. No change. Still getting 404.When active it should transform the 404 page into a detailed 404 with a description of what the error is. Just to be sure, this is activated in the defaults.xml file of the APEX Listener as: *<entry key="log.logging">true</entry>*.
    You should then see a detailed 404 output in your browser of what's going wrong first of all.
    +> Could you post your url-mapping.xml file?+
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <pool-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/apex/pool-config">
    <pool base-path="/DEV" name="od01" workspace-id="xxuapex"/>
    <pool base-path="/TEST" name="ot01" workspace-id="xxuapex"/>
    </pool-config>
    Despite using the url mapping script, it didn't map mine correctly and had to edit it manually. It was the use of "apex" that got it to work for me:
    *<pool base-path="/" name="apex" workspace-id="workspace-name-here" updated="2013-01-09T20:48:59.75Z"/>*

  • Application Import broken in Apex 3.2.1.00.10?

    Hiya, trying to import my app into a new installation of Apex. I choose the file type, choose the encoding (utf-8), choose the file, click "next" and it says:
    *1 error has occurred*
    File must be selected to upload.
    (also, I cannot login using Internet Explorer as it always returns to the login screen without any error messages, but Firefox and Chrome I can login in, just that the import will not work. )
    What's up?

    Hi, I don't know the DAD (we're using mod_owa to boot so..)
    But it appears that there is a 32 kb limitation in file uploads in mod_owa, and that's causing it. I don't know for sure since I do not administer the server and have no access to it in any way other than the apex web gui.
    But I assume it is also possible to run the application import script through sqlplus?
    As for the IE login problem, that was caused by the host name having an underscore. IE would not accept the cookie :)

  • Generate pdf with apex listener 2.0

    hi,
    we would like to generate pdf out of apex.
    as long as we have text (IRR) WITHOUT special characters (öäü), everything is working fine.
    when we have this characters in a text-columng (IRR), then we get a .pdf with the following content:
    javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: com.sun.org.apache.xml.internal.utils.WrappedRuntimeException: An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x3) was found in the element content of the document.
    could this be a problem of the characterset? but if, where to change what?
    - we defined in ADMIN in 'report printing' / 'instance-settings': oracle-apex-listener
    - we are working with apex-listener 2.0 (integrated in weblogic-server)
    - we work with APEX 4.2.1.00.08
    thanks for any ideas

  • How to open file system file from Apex?

    Hi,
    Can someone help me to find how to open a pdf file e.g. test.pdf from apex when someone click on a button ABC?
    The file is located in /C/
    Thanks in advance
    Dip

    You can use the Onclick event and window.location to show the file when the user clicks a button.
    <input type=button onClick="window.location= 'file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/rchamarthi/Desktop/test.pdf' + document.form1.cmuds.value;" value="Open File">The actual location of the file is "C:/Documents and Settings/rchamarthi/Desktop/test.pdf"
    Since the location is treated as a URL, remember that it should be URL encoded.
    Hence all spaces should be replaced by '%20' (32 being the ASCII for space and 20 in hex -> 32).

    - Then I test the webservice and it give the response as I have it in the browser.
    - Then I tried to create new page with type "Resport on Web Service Result" in the application with following setting: Web Reference Type: REST, Werb Service Reference: Test Sample DB but I can not continue because I do not know what to enter when I need to supply the Temporary Result Set Name (Collection).
    Any helps are appreciated.

    Firstly I apologize that I haven't seen this post sooner, and that you are having trouble with consuming a RESTful Web service in Application Express 4.0. Perhaps we can do a better job of documenting the feature in a future release.
    The Create Report on Web Service response wizard assumes that you already have a process that is using the Web service reference to call the Web service. In that process, you specify the name of the collection to store the results in.
    An easier approach in your case would be to run the Create Form and Report on Web service Wizard. You can then move the process to before or after header, make it unconditional, and hide the form region it will create. First though, you will have to make some changes to your reference. Based on the XML document you have provided, you need to change the XPath to the result set, the Namespace (for this XML document, it should be null), as well as the output parameters. In the case of creating a report on a Web service response, the output parameters are the parts of the document that you want to report on. So here are the specific changes you should make:
    Response XPath: */emps/emp*
    Response Namespace: <leave this blank>
    REST Output Parameters
    Name Path
    empno /empno
    ename /ename
    hiredate /hiredate
    job /job
    sal /sal
    Also, you may wish to review the Application Express 4.0 Web Services Evaluation Guide available at: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/apex40webservicesevaluationguide-172753.doc.

  • WSDL issue in Apex 4.0

    Hi All
    I am just beginning to broach the area of web services with APEX and running into some issues..
    Environment I am working in:
    Apex 4.0
    Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 database
    OHS Server
    Unix OS
    I have the following wdsl from a web service developed in house here:
    http://appclstr1.oft.state.nyenet/wilma/getsetdataws.asmx?op=getDataNoSerialization
    partial code -
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    - <wsdl:definitions xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/" xmlns:tm="http://microsoft.com/wsdl/mime/textMatching/" xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:mime="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/mime/" xmlns:tns="http://sdc.oft.state.nyenet/wilma" xmlns:s="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soap12="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap12/" xmlns:http="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/http/" targetNamespace="http://sdc.oft.state.nyenet/wilma" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/">
    - <wsdl:types>
    <wsdl:operation name="getlargeDataNoSerialization">
    <soap:operation soapAction="http://sdc.oft.state.nyenet/wilma/getlargeDataNoSerialization" style="document" />
    - <wsdl:input>
    <soap:body use="literal" />
    </wsdl:input>
    - <wsdl:output>
    <soap:body use="literal" />
    </wsdl:output>
    </wsdl:operation>
    Here is where the problem starts.
    1) I wanted to use Apex-Shared Componments- Create Web Service Reference - provide wsdl
    No luck I received the error below. (Also when I tried to create it manually within Apex I got the same error)
    Error
    ORA-20001: The webservice was unreachable because either the URL you supplied was invalid, your environment requires a valid proxy server address for HTTP requests, or a wallet needs to be configured for HTTPS requests.
    Error sending request.
    Also when choosing one from the dropdown like amazon I get the same error.
    2) I've search forums etc.. on the problem. Many say it's a problem with the ACL?? See below
    Is is true that a host can only have one acl?
    select host, lower_port, upper_port, acl from dba_network_acls order by acl;
    HOST LOWER_PORT UPPER_PORT ACL
    * */sys/acls/power_users.xml*
    smtp.nysemail.nyenet 2525 2525 /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml
    smtp.nysemail.nyenet /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml
    * 20 5000 /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml
    select acl, principal, privilege, is_grant from dba_network_acl_privileges;
    ACL PRINCIPAL PRIVILEGE IS_GRANT
    /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml CONNECT connect true
    /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml ML_TEST connect true
    /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml QYDDBA connect true
    /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml ACTR connect true
    /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml GINODBA connect true
    /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml CMSDBA connect true
    /sys/acls/utlpkg.xml APEX_040000 connect true
    /sys/acls/power_users.xml APEX_040000 connect true
    3) Additonal Details - I can open the url (webservice) in my browser no problem, I can append the ?wsdl and get the soap info which I used in my attempt to create one manually. It is not https so i do not need to create a wallet.
    I also tried to copy my proxy server info from my broswer into the apex application definition page and try to create the web reference - did not work.
    Query on the db-
    SELECT DBMS_XDB.getPrivileges('/xdbconfig.xml').getCLOBVal() FROM DUAL;
    DBMS_XDB.GETPRIVILEGES('/XDBCONFIG.XML').GETCLOBVAL()
    <privilege xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/acl.xsd" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.
    This is all new terriority for me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Again
    I have more info on the issue...
    I tried to reach the the webservice from OAS/HTTP with mod_plsql directly. At first I was not able to.
    A firewall request was completed and now I am sure the http server can reach the webservice in question.
    Unfortunatley creating a webservice either manually or through a wsdl is still not working! Please Help , what else can I check.
    Also
    I'm confused ..taken from APEX 4.0 online documenation
    SOAP offers two primary advantages:
    SOAP is based on XML, and therefore easy to use.
    SOAP messages are not blocked by firewalls because this protocol uses simple transport protocols, such as HTTP.
    I can't see why it would be a firewall issue based on the statement above.
    Thanks Again
    Moe
    -- just added to my post. Issue still unresolved
    I'vw been trying to troubleshoot it myself.
    From my database server -
    I'm not able to use utl_http - example
    set serveroutput on
    DECLARE
    req utl_http.req;
    resp utl_http.resp;
    value VARCHAR2(32000);
    BEGIN
    req := utl_http.begin_request('http://www.psoug.org');
    resp := utl_http.get_response(req);
    value := utl_http.request('http://www.psoug.org/');
    dbms_output.put_line(value);
    utl_http.end_response(resp);
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN utl_http.end_of_body THEN
    utl_http.end_response(resp);
    END;
    error received is
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-29273: HTTP request failed
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1130
    ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
    ORA-06512: at line 6
    Using ping
    ping www.psoug.orgPING 66.221.222.85: 64 byte packets
    ----66.221.222.85 PING Statistics----
    16 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
    However I'm confused if I'm using Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.1)/Apache
    Should I need to modify the firewall on the database side to access a webservice? Does it need to be port 80?
    Getting frustrated by my ignorance
    Thanks
    Moe
