Enhancement suggestion: debugging pl/sql scripts
It would be really nice if you could use the PL/SQL debugger on blocks of PL/SQL that are run as a script through the worksheet, rather than only PL/SQL functions and packages.
Here is a hack that lets you do this...
Right-click on any proc, func or pkg in the Connections object tree and select "Debug". When the Debug option dialog comes up, copy and paste your anonymous pl/sql block into the code window of the dialog. The debugger will step through whatever you paste in there, even if it doesn't call the proc, func or pkg that you clicked in the Connections window.
The disadvantage is that SQL Developer seems to store the anonymous block you pasted as the default for debugging whatever proc. you clicked on, so the next time you want to actually debug it, you will have to re-type a short block that calls that proc. to debug it. Of course, you could create a dummy proc. that does nothing, which you could use exclusively to debug anonymous pl/sql blocks.

What is the easiest tool to debug an SQL script in Oracle XE environment?
I try to run a simple sql script that creates tables with their keys on Oracle XE. When it runs into bunch errors, I have difficult time to locate the mistake. One of the reason is, I don't know how to view the script in color that distinguishes the syntax like virtual C++ editor treats their text code.
Can XE do this? If not, is there any easier way to debug a script in its environment?
Much appreciated. Pardon for the triviality nature of the question.[PL/SQL Developer|http://www.allroundautomations.com/plsqldev.html] lets you step through a SQL*Plus-style script one command at a time.
SQL*Plus (Oracle's very basic command-line tool) has [WHENEVER OSERROR|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/ch12051.htm] and [WHENEVER SQLERROR|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/ch12052.htm] settings that make it jump out of the script on OS or database failure, but that's about it. Other tools such as PL/SQL Developer, SQL Developer and (if you must) TOAD attempt to emulate SQL*Plus commands to some extent but you'd have to check the documentation to see what commands they support.
Scripts aren't a compiled programming language like C++ or PL/SQL so there is no interactive debugger. -
I cannot debug with SQL server 2008 SSMS asks for Firewall permission?
hi friends,
I run SQL server 2008 R2 developer edition on windows 8 basic edition. SQL server is installed in my local machine. when I tried to debug a sql script it asked the firewall permission as show on image
when googled I found this
Article from MSDN with fix tool but it cannot installed on my Windows 8 OS, is there way to fix it without giving any unauthorized access to my system?
thanks
I use Visual studio 2012 Ultimate and SQL server 2008 developer edition!Hi,
The hotfix you provide applies for Windows Server 2008.
The windows firewall on this machine is currently blocking remote debugging.
According the message, the following ports need to be enabled for remote debugging. Use the procedure that is described in the section
Configuring a Port in Windows Firewall to enable the following ports through Windows Firewall:

Hi Gurus,
We are in the process of building the SAP HANA views. As we know there are multiple options
1) Attribute , Analytic & Calc views
2) Scripted Calculation views and CE functions.
I have read many articles and as per SAP Documentation, they say build the information view with Attribute, analytic and calculation View (Graphical) If it does not suffice they go for scripted calculation view.
Just wanted to understand. Are there any limitations or any issues faced in the projects with scripted calc views. If we look at the John Appleby tips, it suggests that avoid SQL script unless it cannot be done with graphical views.
http://scn.sap.com/community/hana-in-memory/blog/2013/12/29/6-golden-rules-for-new-sap-hana-developers
If we build the views with graphical method, then it seems the parallelism can very well achieved ,means query is split into multiple sub queries and executed in parallel as in Visualize plan.
If we write the Sql script, can this parallel processing achieved or not ? If the requirement can be achieved without writing script which method to choose.
I have included the 10 to 12 attribute views in analytic view then Calculation view; it seems there may be some performance issue which I am going to check. As we know we can use base table directly in calculation view. What is the best method to use .Can we use these base tables in calculation view directly or build the attribute views first, then analytic view and after that build calculation view.
As we know we use the attribute views from re usability perspective. Is there any other reason that we need to use attribute views instead of joining the base tables in calc view .
Regards
Ram RamanathaiahThank you Krishna for the answers. I have gone through those links. But there is nowhere consensus opinion that the way we use the views. Some of the answers conflict each other .When we are starting the project we need to make decision about the best approach we wanted to take. If possible I would like to understand more about this from you and other experts.
1) Build the views with Attribute analytic or calc views or
2) Build the views only with base tables in calc views or
3) Build everything using the SQL script /CE functions.

Out of memory Error while querying SQL Script based Calculation View
Hi All,
I wanted to test the performance of Graphical and SQL Script based Calculation views.
Created Graphical (CA_GRPH) and SQL Script (CA_SQL) Calculation views.
Analytic View (AN_GRPH) for both Calculation views are the same which is Graphical based (90 Attributes and 5 Measures)
In Analytic View data foundation I have a Fact table which has 1.5 Billion records and 9 Dimension Tables –collectively 500 million records (7 Attribute Views). 9 Referential joins with cardinality N:1 and 1 Referential join with cardinality N:N.
I wanted to keep (CA_GRPH) and (CA_SQL) as a base Calculation views and leverage those to create various calculation views (Will be creating different Calc views for respective Business segments)
In order to test this I have created below calc views on top of base calc views.
Graphical Based: Created (CA_GRAPH_XYZ) by having CA_GRPH in projection with 30 Calculated Columns. – This retrieves data in 13 secs
SQL Script Based: Created (CA_GRPH_ABC) by having CA_SQL in projection view with 30 calculated columns – This errors out after 1.50 mins.
Could not execute 'SELECT "COLUMN_A","COLUMN _B"," COLUMN _C"," COLUMN _D", SUM("COLUMN _REVENUE") AS ...' in 1:50.480 minutes .
SAP DBTech JDBC: [2048]: column store error: [2048] column store error: search table error: [1000002] Error executing physical plan: exception 1000002:

exception 1000002:
Any suggestion / help in fixing this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
AvHi Raj,
Thanks for your time, please find edited snap hot of Analytic View (AN_GRPH) below,
Calculation view(CA_SQL)
/********* Begin Procedure Script ************/
BEGIN
var_out =
SELECT
"COLUMN_1"
"COLUMN_2",
"COLUMN_84",
"COLUMN_85;",
SUM("REVN") AS "REVN",
SUM("MGN") AS "MGN",
SUM("ORD_QTY") AS "ORD_QTY",
SUM("SYS_QTY1") AS "SYS_QTY1",
SUM("SYS_QTY") AS "SYS_QTY"
FROM
"_SYS_BIC"."XYZ/AN_GRPH"
GROUP BY
"COLUMN_1"
"COLUMN_2",
"COLUMN_84",
"COLUMN_85";
END
/********* End Procedure Script ************/
Later i have built one more Calculation view(CA_GRPH_ABC) using (CA_SQL)in projection. i have 30 calculated measures in this final calc view. this final calc view is throwing above mentioned error.
Not sure if i can use SQL script based calc view in graphical based calc views?

Error when calling a stored procedure from a SQL Script
Apologies if this is a really dumb question but I can't seem to call a procedure in package from a SQL script. I have a simple package.procedure containing a loop to populate a table. I would like to include a call to this procedure from my database install script, that also includes my CREATE and INSERT statements. I run the script using "@install_databae" and the CREATE and INSERT statements run fine. The script gives an error when it reaches the line below:
exec lazarus.PopulateGridPositions;
and gives the error.....
BEGIN lazarus.PopulateGridPositions; END;
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-04063: package body "LAZARUS.LAZARUS" has errors
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "LAZARUS.LAZARUS"
ORA-06512: at line 1
The procedure and package have both compiled without errors and the statement on its own works fine in SQL*Plus.
I've obviously missed some fundamental concept with scripts and SQL. Please can anybody help me?Histon FTM wrote:
ORA-04063: package body "LAZARUS.LAZARUS" has errors Above, obviously conflicts with the statement that follows:

The procedure and package have both compiled without errors and the statement on its own works fine in SQL*Plus.I suggest you take a look in the USER_ERRORS view to see, what the errors are.
And just checking:
You have schema called LAZARUS, which holds a package named LAZARUS, which holds a procedure called POPULATEGRIDPOSITIONS?

Debugging mode - sql query not showing up in console
Hi,
I have turned on the debugging mode via Admin->Server Configuration->Debug Level. Set it to debug mode.
I restarted the server. I wanted to test if the query will show up if there was an error in the query.
However I am not seeing any query. It complains that there is some error, but doesn't show what query string it is using.
Anyone got any idea how I can get query to show up on console (BI Publisher web interface) as opposed to
going and seeing the log files on the server.
Please let me know.
Thanks
GirijaThankyou Vetsrini.
I will try out custom log table approach.
I see that there is a way to test pl/sql scripts via the DBMS output
and for that we need some invoking program like SQL PLUS to get the
log out into a file.
However, we wanted to see if there is a way to set Pl/SQL log files
and get PL/SQL logs when the calling program is BI Publisher.

The contents of the csv file are to be retreived from the Database as well as the content of the mail and to whom it needs to be sent has also to be picked up from the database.
Can somebody suggest me with a suitable code for the same?
Would be of great help..!!

OIM 10g : SQL Script to Delete or Cancel process instance tasks for user resources
Hello,
I have users with a resource with a process instance that have a large number (1000) of task instance related to reconciliations (Reconciliation Update Received).
And when trying to revoke this resource, OIM take a long time to perfom this job, it is due to the fact that all this taks are canceled one by one...
My question is : I want to perform manualy using a script this cancel of all this tasks, or maybe better, delete all this tasks when there'are too many, can someone provide me this sql scripts.
Thanks in advance.I'm running this script into an adapter with the following code :
public boolean clearTaskInstances(String user_key, String process_name, String task_name) throws OIMException {
$logger.debug("Utils.clearTaskInstances() : Inside deleting task instances debug 1");
tcDataProvider provider = getOIMConnection().getDataBase();
$logger.debug("Utils.clearTaskInstances() : Inside deleting task instances debug 2");
String query = "DELETE FROM OSI WHERE OSI.MIL_KEY=" +
"(SELECT MIL.MIL_KEY FROM MIL WHERE MIL.TOS_KEY=" +
"(SELECT TOS_KEY FROM TOS LEFT JOIN PKG ON PKG.PKG_KEY=TOS.PKG_KEY WHERE PKG.PKG_NAME=" +
"'" + process_name + "') AND MIL.MIL_NAME='" + task_name + "'" +
"AND OSI.ORC_KEY IN (SELECT ORC.ORC_KEY FROM ORC WHERE ORC.USR_KEY='" + user_key +"'))";
$logger.debug("Utils/clearTaskInstance : Delete Query = " + query);
PreparedStatementUtil preparedStatement = new PreparedStatementUtil();
preparedStatement.setStatement(provider, query);
try {
preparedStatement.executeUpdate();
$logger.debug("Utils/clearTaskInstance : Delete Query executed");
return true;
} catch (Exception e) {
$logger.error("Utils/clearTaskInstance : Error while executing Delete Query : " + e);
return false;
, but this generate 18M of SQL error logs !!
The same SQL request in SQL Dev works fine, the same code with OIM 11gR2 works fine too, the problem seems to be only with OIM 9.1.
The first lines in the logs are :

Copying SQL Script from Oracle SQL Developer into Excel with formatting
I need to copy a SQL Script into Excel in order to develop some VBA code. Is there any nice way that I can copy SQL Script from Oracle SQL Developer into Excel and retain its formatting? I am a stickler for having legible, readable SQL and like to have all my columns lined up and aliases lined up. When we used to use SQL Navigator, the tab formatting seemed to copy and paste just fine. Now that we have migrated to Oracle SQL Developer, the formatting seems to get all messed up.
And suggestions are greatly appreciated and Thanks in advance for your review and am hopeful for an answer.
Thanks.
PSULionRPI suppose you want a real tabulator instead of spaces. You can configure this in the preferences (SQL Formatter - Oracle). You have to apply it then to your existing code (e.g. CTRL-F7), but new code should get it right from the start.
Hope that helps,

SQL script with a prompt functionality.
Hello experts,
I tried searching this on the net but was unsucessful...
Bascially I need to update an sql script with a prompt functionality..Basically I would like a user prompt that would enter 'Yes or No' to compile invalid objects using utlrp.
If Yes, it should compile it
If No it should exit out...
Can anyone please help.. Need to do this today.
Edited by: user568296 on Oct 2, 2009 8:18 AMHi,
As someone suggested, you're probably better off doing this at the OS level.
SQL*Plus does not have any good mechanism for conditional branching. One trick you can do in SQL*Plus is to run one script from another by saying <tt>@@filename</tt>. By using a substitution variable (which can be defined based on the results of a query) in place of a literal filename, you can make this dynamic.
For example, the following script runs either
recompile.sql or
goodbye.sql
based on the answer to a prompt:
ACCEPT recompile_now PROMPT 'Do you want to recompile objects now? '
COLUMN next_script_col NEW_VAL next_script
SELECT CASE
WHEN UPPER ('&recompile_now') LIKE 'Y%'
THEN 'recompile'
ELSE 'goodbye'
END AS next_script_col
FROM dual;
@@&next_script<tt>@@filename</tt> assumes filename.sql is on the same directory as the calling script. You could also give a full path name using only one @-sign:
<tt>@pathname</tt> -
SQL Script in XE Cancels during Execution without returning any error(s)
Hi all;
I'm running a SQL script with a drop table and create table statement along with several hundred insert statements to load data into this table in a Oracle 10g XE database. There's a total of 213 SQL command lines in the script. (1 Drop Tbl/1 Create Tbl/211 Insert(s)).
I run the script within the Script Editor in the Oracle XE web interface and it processes 45 of 213 of the SQL commands in the script successfully(1 Drop Tbl/1 Create Tbl/43 Insert(s)). Then the Manage Script Results screen shows a status of "Canceled". It doesn't even attempt to insert the other rows and spit back any error messages. I tried debugging by checking the consistency of the insert statements at the break point and couldn't find any discrepancy. The script just stops executing and shows this cancelled status? Can anyone help me figure out why all the lines of this script aren't being executed? I'd appreciate it a lot!
Thanks.
-GMI've spooled output to a file which I've pasted below in italic pre-tags. I abbreviated some of output to save space in this thread. I didn't want to include 600 rows showing "1 row created" 211 times with 3 spaces between each of them. So here is my abbreviated output:

The last select statement above results in continuous spitting out of column headings with no data. I've truncated it here to save space. When I go through the Oracle Database XE web front end I see that the table was created; however it says "This table has no data". So still no luck. Hope you can help. Thanks.

file under the Ownership of OS user which is connected to the system.
The problem we are facing is when we are executing the stored procedure i e exec run_sql(), the file is creating under
Oracle User.
Could u please suggest me a solution inorder to create the output file under the user who is logged to the OS.First of all, your usage of IM speak is NOT appreciated. Please do not address anyone as if they were a 12-year old.
'Our Applcation is in C. So we have to call the procedure to run the sql script.'
This is just utter nonsense!
Oracle has Pro*C which allows Embedded SQL in C. There is also OCI (Oracle Call Interface) to call Oracle directly in C, and there is OCCI, to do the same in C++.
Apart from that, Oracle has Ole DB for Windows platforms, to allow for a .NET compatible interface to Oracle.
There is NO NEED AT ALL to call PL/SQL to run a SQL script.
