Enhancements / Modifications in Web Dynpro Java

Hi, all!
I' ve a more general question: Are there any enhancement concepts for Web Dynpro Java available or at least planned that would give developers the same comfort and possibilities ABAP programmers have?
I mean, will there ever be an Enhancement Framework like in ABAP - modification free enhancements via BADIs or customer exits?
Think of one of SAPs WDJ flagship - the ESS/MSS. If you want to change anything within, you have no other possibility but to modify the sources. Considering this - together with the weak possibilities of backend access via JCo - I give the WDJ not a chance to stand the challenge of WD4A.
Regards,
Thomas

Hi!
I' m just going through the hep-pages, but what I can definitly say by now is that there' s no enhancement-concept in sight. This matter is getting kind of really embarrassing and leaves the question open: What the heck should an SAP customer persuade to focus on Java Development? No enhancements, no direct data access, no easy debugging possibilities like in ABAP.
I' ve started with WDJ, but digging deeper into WD4A I' m getting more and more convinced that the whole Java thing was just something like a playground field for the development of the programming model and is now getting more and more obsolete with the rising of WD4A.
Correct me, if I' m wrong, and forgive me, if I' m flaming, but when I started with Java development in SAP enviroment I was quite enthusiastic and didn' t understand resentiments of the ABAP developers against our programming language, but now I' m more and more joining their opinion.
Regards,
Thomas
PS: I' ve - by the way - done the SAP Java Certification and am already regretting it.

  • Modification of Web Dynpro ABAP ESS application

    Hi,
I'm familiar with the modification process of ESS Web Dynpro Java applications using NWDI. However I have to adda button a view in the "Create Expense Report" iView which is a Web Dynpro ABAP application from ERP 6 Ehp3. On the click of this button a pdf report should be shown. The Web Dynpro ABAP application is FITE_EXPENSES.
Can anyone tell me what is the process for modifying ESS WD ABAP code? Do I copy and create a new application and then modify?
I'm not getting any documentation on this on SDN or SAP Help.
    Regards

    hi,
->You dont have to copy and create new application.
-> You can use Enhancement Framework Technology.
-> Look out for Blogs by Thomas Weiss. They are very useful.
-> Easiest way out to create new button would be as :
-> Put your application in display mode.
-> There is button for Enhancement in the tool bar (Spiral shaped).
-> Press that button and create a new enhancement.
-> Now add any UI Element you want to add.
-> In Enhancement Framework we do have some Post Exit and Pre Exit Methods.
-> Some Enhancement Points are already given by Standard SAP.
-> You can write the logic there and activate the Enhancement.
Check out this link for basic idea about enhancement.

    Regards,

Please try to avoid modification of WD4As. This is the last resort!
FITE_EXPENSES uses the WD-Component FITV_FPM_START, there it has the Application Configuration "FITE_EXPENSES". The Application COnfiguration is mapped with the Component Configuration "FITV_FPM_EXPENSES" (this is just for your interest how things are mapped here).
Bottom line the Application uses the WD-Component FITE_VC_GENERAL_DATA you can open it via TA SE80 as above poster suggested. Here. navigate to Views and open the View GENERAL_DATA_VIEW. Navigate to Tab METHODS, open Hook-Method WDDOMODIFYVIEW. Here you can make an implicit enhancement at the end of the method and dynamically generate a Button in runtime, this would be a cleaner approach than hard modification of the standard Layout.. I reccomend you to consider this!

  • Web Dynpro Java code changes

    Hi,
I need to put some validations in web dynpro java page which is "employee address page". I checked the BADI's but no badi exists which serve my purpsoe.
Now I want to make the code change in web dynpro java. Pls answer the followng questions.
1- I have installed NWDS on my local machine. Do i need to install NWDI also?
2- How to import and export the required page and from where?
3- How to modify the standard code, I mean in ECC we have enhancement and modification concept.
    Thanks,

NWDI is a part of NWDS, So you would need both as mentioend
NWDI - Netweaver Development Infrastructure is an SAP sytem for java development & change management. It's a repository for java code and change management system.
NWDS is a developer tool to build applications similar to Eclipse. NWDS uses NWDI to check-in & check-out java code and move java changes to SAP runtime systems (like portal etc).
Read the basics of NWDI and its utility in the below help document

  • Web Dynpro Java - Light Portal Desktop

Hi Guys... I have a web dynpro java application that I want to display on a Light Portal Desktop, but when I display the iview... it gets cut. I mean I can see only part of my application and there is also a right scroll bar... It looks like the height size of the iview is set to "FIXED" but it's not. I Actually  modifed all values for size even on the Light Framework Page used...to FULL_SCREEN. I don't know what's wrong. If I display the same iview using a Default Framework Page it looks fine... I'm using SAP EP 7.00 SP 16.
Is there any restriction for using Web Dynpro iviews for Light Porta Desktops?
    Thank you.
    David

    David,
Webdynpro content is considered heavy and I dont think we can use it in LPD.

Further to what Faraz has said, Web Dynpro can be seen as an implementation of the Framework pattern.
Essentially you write normal Java code with access to various Java objects exposed/generated by the Web Dynpro Framework inside "hook" functions.
The Web Dynpro framework then calls your functions at various stages when the page renders and when actions are triggered.
For a high level understanding of this, not specific to Web Dynpro, research the concept of OO Frameworks pattersn.
    for example [Article explaining frameworks|http://www.cs.wustl.edu/~schmidt/CACM-frameworks.html]
Here is an excerpt from the above article which highlights the major points
The primary benefits of OO application frameworks stem from the modularity, reusability, extensibility, and inversion of control they provide to developers, as described below:
Modularity -- Frameworks enhance modularity by encapsulating volatile implementation details behind stable interfaces. Framework modularity helps improve software quality by localizing the impact of design and implementation changes. This localization reduces the effort required to understand and maintain existing software.
Reusability -- The stable interfaces provided by frameworks enhance reusability by defining generic components that can be reapplied to create new applications. Framework reusability leverages the domain knowledge and prior effort of experienced developers in order to avoid re-creating and re-validating common solutions to recurring application requirements and software design challenges. Reuse of framework components can yield substantial improvements in programmer productivity, as well as enhance the quality, performance, reliability and interoperability of software.
Extensibility -- A framework enhances extensibility by providing explicit hook methods that allow applications to extend its stable interfaces. Hook methods systematically decouple the stable interfaces and behaviors of an application domain from the variations required by instantiations of an application in a particular context. Framework extensibility is essential to ensure timely customization of new application services and features.

  • Problem in completing the TASK when using Web Dynpro Java and BPM

    Hi,
I am using Web Dynpro Java and BPM.
i see my Web Dynpro View when i run the process.
Just that the task is not completing.
when i click on the Web Dynpro button to signal the completion of the event, nothing happens.
i have appropriately created events in both Component controller and Interface Controller and used the same in creating the Task.
a method in Component controller fires the event and a button click in the view calls this method.
i have successfully completed Donka Dimitrova's "SAP Netweaver Business Process Management-End-to-End Process Implementation Sample " but when i tried my own with slight modifications, it is not working !!!

    regards,
    -Amol Gupta

    Hi Amol,
The way you described the things, I dont see any problems. Just to make sure that you are triggering the right event that you mapped as completion event for the task, try to cross check once again and see if the correct event is getting triggered. Also try to put some messages for debugging to see till where the control goes.

  • Maintaining custom Web Dynpro Java applications

We are a relatively new Web Dynpro Java shop, and I hope to propose a standard for code modification documentation to my organization. I have a few questions for WDJ maintenance developers:
When documenting creation and modification activities, what is the benefit of using the javadoc comment convention?
In the controller implementation tab, when I use the Source --> Add JavaDoc Comment tool, the comment block is always inserted into the
    //@@begin imports
tag. Is the automatically generated tag
    //@@begin documentation
in the controller implementation tab useful? Should summary information and ongoing modification comments for the controller be stored here?
Does anyone require full javadoc comments on every new method? @param, @return, @exception?
Do the NWDS/Eclipse Tasks and/or Bookmarks provide any real value? I have observed that bookmarks are useless for flagging code changes because they are dropped whenever edits are saved. I'd like to leverage Tasks, are there any examples of using them successfully that can be shared with me?

The Java source in Web Dynpro is generated from the meta-data. Manual changes must be done exclusively inside the so-called user coding areas marked by comments //@@begin ID ... //@@end. That has the consequence that many of the Eclipse source code and refactoring functionality does not work anymore resp. is overwritten by the code generation step. Please be careful.

  • New to Web Dynpro java

hi I am new to Web Dynpro java, From where should i have to start
where can i find examples and documnets on web dynpro java.

    beardenrick

    Hi,
Web Dynpro is the SAP programming model for user interfaces (UIs).
It provides a programming framework within which you can achieve a:
u2022 Clear separation of business logic and display logic
u2022 An application specification that is both:
    Client neutral and
    Backend neutral
It consists of a runtime environment and a graphical development environment with special Web-Dynpro tools that are integrated in the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio
The Web Dynpro technology provides a development and runtime environment for Web applications and enhances classical Web development to build easily adaptable user interfaces. SAP's Web Dyn-pro technology closes significant gaps between typical Web development tools and the needs of cost-effective, responsive, easy-to-use, maintainable, and professional browser-based user interfaces for business solutions. Web Dynpro uses design principles similar to SAP's Dynpro technology, but it is a completely new technology geared exclusively towards Web applications. Its main features include the following:
    u2022 Usability
    u2022 Abstract modelling
    u2022 Personalization and customization
u2022 Separation of presentation layers and business logic
    u2022 Generic services
    u2022 Portability
Web Dynpro applications run in the SAP Enterprise Portal.

  • Logical Destinations in Web Dynpro Java

    Hi!
Is it possible to access logical HTTP destinations maintained in SAP NetWeaver Administrator via Configuration Management -> Security ->Destinations in Web Dynpro Java source-code.
I would like to use such a destination to configure an URL target for a IWDFrame UI element.
Thank you very much in advance!
    Regards,
    Thomas

I found out that there is a [Destination Service API|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce711/helpdata/en/8b/8e7dac1e661d44bf2a676fd3948cc6/content.htm] for this purpose. Unfortunatly I am still not able to provide the required components security.class and tc/sec/destinations/interface to the web dynpro component. Maintaining them via Project Properties -> Web Dynpro is not allowed any more, and I couldn't find them in the DC perspective to add them as DC dependency.
Has anybody got an idea where these two libraries have gone?

PS: The 7.0 procedure, which can be found in various posts, doesn't seem to work any more for CE 711.

  • Date Column not getting sorted in a table in web Dynpro Java

    Hi All,
I am facing an issue while sorting the date column in a table in my web dynpro java application.
When the date is displayed in the sql format in tha table, I am able to sort the date column successfully but when we convert the date field from sql format to util format in our table and then sort it does not work.
Kindly let us know the steps to be followed in this case to sort the date column of a table in Simple Date format as we do not want date in the sql format to be displayed.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anurag

    Hi,
You might want to check whether both your browser's language settings are identical. The browser language could also determine the date format.
As a workaround, you could add an extra attribute to your context, and set the calculated property to 'true'.
In your table, add a new column and bind to this new attribute, and hide your original date column
If you sort using the date column that's hidden now, you could use the calculated field to fixed-format your date the way you prefer (by using the SimpleDateFormatter class for instance)
    Cheers,
    Robin

My Requirement is user can register his/her user id in SAP Portal 7.3 UME database.
    Please suggest me.

    Hi Amit,
    Generated Documentation (Untitled)
This is what you're looking for, there's no real cook-book -- though Amey mentioned there might be some material on SDN, perhaps some tutorials.
You should be looking into com.sap.security.api.IUserFactory, methods newUser(String) which gives you and IUserMaint and commitUser(IUserMaint, IUserAccount) -- IUserAccount can be obtained using com.sap.security.api.IUserAccountFactory, method newUserAccount(String)
    Hope it helps,

  • How to configure SSO for web dynpro ABAP (not web dynpro Java)

    Hi Experts,
I am testing SSO in IDES for web dynpro ABAP (Not for web dynpro Java / not for portal). When I am entering url of web dynpro application in web browser like internet explorer, then it should ask for user id and password first time, after login whenever user would access that url, it must not ask for user ID and password (url would be access web browser in mobile). For this I select to configure single sign-on for web dynpro ABAP. I have done below works:
1). I have created a web dynpro application having url: http://susws076.sap.swk:<port>/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/zadb_hello_world2
2). I run TCode SICF and access service node to "Zadb_hello_world2". Double click on it, hit change. pressed "logon data" tab, select "Alternative logon
         procedure"
Then deleted all logon procedure other than "SSO Authentication" and saved.
3). Go to "STRUST" and create certificate, choosed "Environment==> Logon Ticket" fill the required parameters and execute. It is OK (no red traffic

  • How to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.

    Hi,
I have created a web dynpro application, which is running inside portal. I have created a role called "R1". Inside role R1, i have created 3 workset W1, W2 and W3. and inside each workset i have some pages and iviews.
My requirement is when user logins to the portal , and when he clicks on role R1 for the first time, a login page should come (so that we can do revalidation), and when he enters his password again in that login page , then only workset W1, W2 and W3 should be visible/accessible to him and after successful revalidation, if he clicks again on role R1, in that particular portal session, than that login page should not come.
for this, i thought i will set a variable in portal session, whenever user successfully revalidated himself, and if after successful revalidation he clicks again on role R1, i will check in doinit method of webdynpro whether variable is set or not (which i already set on successful revalidation), and if it is set then i will do Donavigation else i will present login page to the user.
Can anyone tells me how to set a variable in portal session using web dynpro java.
    thanks

    Hi,
    Try this:
    WDScopeUtil.put(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE, key, value)
    WDScopeUtil.get(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE, key)
    Ex:
    WDScopeUtil.put(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE,"Key1","Value1");
    String value1=WDScopeUtil.get(WDScopeType.CLIENTSESSION_SCOPE,"Key1").toString();
