Entering a letter in a number field

Hi there,
I am using structure binding for many of the contexts in my application to get all the data types automatically. It works ok, but when the data type is decimal, like a currency field, and if the user types in any letter in that field, it is looking at parsing the Decimal and raises a nullpointer exception. You cannot catch the exception on an action because it does not reach to the action code, and the application is terminated before that. I thought that just like in R/3, where the system automatically gives an error if a letter is input in a number field, the error handling should be automatic here as well.
Does this mean that I cannot have decimal types in webdynpro, referencing corresponding decimal types in R/3 just because it gives up an exception if the user enters wrong data?
Is the only solution to change all my data types to Strings without referencing any data element?

Hi,
Please refer to the messages in the thread. Opened OSS message. SAP got back saying that it is resolved in SP17 and have to upgrade. Thats not very handy for me at this stage because there is no plan of upgrade.
Meanwhile, I noticed that another field, which is currency as well, does not throw up the exception, and SAP also validates the field and asks u to enter the data in the desired format. Which is good. But what I cannot figure out is why this field is working and why a similar field is not working.
Even stranger, I assigned this field to all the currency fields in my application,which worked fine one day, but this morning I find that it has stopped working!!
Any idea why
1) One particular currency field is working, whereas others dont? (The only difference I can see in this currency field is that it is a Z field and not refer to sap std domain).
2) Why it worked one day and then stopped working when I changed the data type to this field.
I know these questions are vague, and you maynot have a readymade answer, but just checking..you could have faced a similar issue..

Easy question, but I can't find the answer.
I know how to use STARVC, and I enter a new value as a parameter, provide a name, and fill in the LOW field. But the NUMB field is ALWAYS 0000. I want to make it a 0001.
SM30 is out of the question as it isn't available in our prod environment.

When you enter it as Parameter, the numb field is always 0000 as it is one to one relation between name and value i.e.
for one name you can assign one value.
If you enter it as select-options then in multiple selection this NUMB increases by 1 starting from 0000.

How to prevent users from entering '+' or '0' in front of country code in the phone number field?

Requirement:
How can I prevent guest users from entering '+' sign or '0' in front of country-code in the visitor phone number field during self registration?
Few SMS service providers are not looking for '+' sign or '0' or '00' in front of the international phone numbers to trigger the sms. Providing these values in front of country code during self-registration may fail to deliver the sms to recipient.
Solution:
Using a simple regular expression, you can validate the entered phone number during the guest registration.
The below regular expression will help you to validate the phone number and allows to register only when the phone number is not staring with '+' or '0'.
^[1-9][0-9](\d{7}|\d{8}|\d{9}|\d{10}|\d{11}|\d{12})$
It also performs the below validations.
only numbers are allowed.
first digit of the entered phone number should be 1 to 9, so '+' or '0' is not allowed.
numbers from 0 to 9 are allowed from the second digit.
also validates phone number length, the length of the phone number should be 9 to 14.
Configuration:
To add the above regex in the visitor_phone number filed, please navigate to ClearPass Guest >> Configuration >> (Pages)Guest Self-Registration >> select the self-registration page and go to Edit >> Register Page >> Form >> select the filed visitor_phone and set the Validator to " ISRegexMatch" and enter the above regex in the Validator Argument filed as shown below.
Note: Edit the Validation Error as per your requirement.
Verification
Adding the given regex will validate the phone number and prevent the guest user from registering the phone number starts with '+' or '0'.
Please find below the sample outputs for your reference.
Result when phone number starts with '+' or '0'.
Successful registration.

How can I create a random number and letter in a text field...

Hi All,
I am using application express. I want to get a random number and letter for a text field but not sure how to do this. Say I have a licence form and I want to get the licence number automatically when user wants to create a new licence and it needs to be unique. The format I am looking for is - HQ2631 something like this.
I am thinking I have to create a trigger but not sure how to go about this....

Something to play with:
Your method can generate 26 * 26 * 10000 different licence_ids
Generating one million ids takes 20 seconds but produces between 70000 and 80000 duplicates and is rapidly getting worse (if that is something over 7%, doubling the ids generated that grows to something under 30%)
Just see if you can live with that.

I having a bit trouble when trying to generate random number and letter in application express in a text field. Say I have a licence form and when user wants to create a licence, it will provide a random licence number in the licence number field but it has to be unique. the number should be something like HQ2345. I was trying to set the following sql in default value for that text field but it is not working -

Put this as default value for your text-item
DBMS_RANDOM.STRING('',2) || trunc(DBMS_RANDOM.VALUE(1000,9999))
with type PL/SQL Expression. It have tested it and it works fine.

Web Forms Number Field - Not processing decimals!

We have created a monster web form on a clients site. As it is, we have had to setup an API to deal with the data after its been generated by BC and modify it before sending it on to the client. The client saw no reason for fields that did not have anything entered against them to be sent through in the workflow notification - and I agreed.
Now after all these other problems have been resolved, I discover that all my "number" fields cannot process a decimal place, and they round up or down. BC have suggested I need to recreate the form and just make them all 'text strings'.
Not good enough. Its an EPIC form with over 100 fields in it. We, in good faith, read the instructions that can be found here: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/478/bc_478.html?bc-partner
that state "Number - a text box that must have a number entered into it". No note about NOT using decimals!
The confusing thing is, it lets you enter the decimal from the front end, even displays the web form confirmation page correctly with decimals. But when it creates a case in BC, it rounds the numbers. So its only at this late testing stage that we have discovered the issue
Does anyone have any ideas about faster ways of re-creating this entire form ?
I did submit a support ticket, and was told to switch to the old UI and then just change the type of the fields. But when we try to change a form field from 'number' to 'string' it brings up the message "WARNING: Field updated successfully but type not changed as field has associated values.". Then they said to:
Copy that specific webform change the type fields of the form and then remove the old webform and re-name this one copy with the first webform name. The copy option is available under the link I have provided to you.
However this still means we need to change *all* the fields and then get every field' s ID and insert it into the javascript. Very very time consuming
So A) everyone else be warned and B) Does anyone have a shortcut?

Thanks for confirming my fears
Its a shame that since its such a long standing thing, it hasnt actually been added to the knowledgebase... which when we started this project (long before this schmozzle of a new system was introduced) was the most relevant place to look. When I start something, I tend to look in the KB.... not think "oh perhaps I should check the FAQ's in case there is a long standing issue that isnt contained in the KB".

in MIGO the Serial number field and Structure are GOSERIAL-SERIALNO.but i was not able to find the Actucal Field name and table where i can get the values based on PO and Asset Number's?

I'm looking at the same problem here. I found the table SER03 in which you can enter the the material document. This returns 1 line in this table and from this one you need the OBKNR element
You can copy this data and paste it into table OBJK element OBKNR and this returns all serialnumbers for the relevant material document.
My problem is that i can't get these items on the sapscript. (WESCHEINVERS 1,2 or 3)

How to create a validation on number field.

Hello Experts,
My database table has a numeric column EMP_ID. I want to create a validation so that a user can only enter numeric value in this field on the Apex page.
I have tried to create validation Item/Column specified is numeric for item P2_EMP_ID.
But when I submit the page, I still get the error ORA-01722: invalid number.
How can I create a validation so that the ORA error is hidden from the end user and instead a custom message is displayed.

Are you on 4.0? This functionality already exists inside of apex. In fact, thats the only difference between the number field and the textfield. Once you create a "Number Field" it automatically creates a numerical validation (but you have no access to it). Likewise for setting the "Require Value" setting on a textfield; the creation of a NOT NULL validation that you can not directly manipulate.
If you are not on 3.2 maybe you can use javascript to restrict the user from entering anything but numerical inputs.
Alternatively, (not sure of 3.2 support) you can install the MASKED INPUT PLUGIN, and make the mask "?9999999999999" (everything after ? is optional and 9 means only numerical)

Requirement is to restrict employees for applying for leave more than the accrued balance. In SSHR, apply leave functionality, the employee enters the start date, end date and duration manually. The entered duration must be used in the fast formula to check against available balance.
In the BG_ABSENCE_DURATION FF, I have a function to calculate the net accrual balance as on the calculation date.
I want to add the logic as - If to_number(Duration) /*[manually entered value]*/ > net accrual balance then
Duration = 'FAILED'
invalid_msg = 'Error'
return duration, invalid_msg

Hi,
We have a standard functionality to override the duration calculation and you don't need to add a validation for the same. Please set the value of profile option HR: Absence Duration Auto Overwrite to Yes
When you do this user will not have to enter the duration value manually. It will get auto calculated based on the duration calculation in BG_ABSENCE_DURATION when you click on the next button.
For not allowing negative leaves to be applied, If you are on R12 then, this is a standard functionality and you need to set profile option HR Allow Absence Negative Balance to No
If you are on 11i then refer Note: 268171.1: How Do You Stop Accrual Plans from Going Negative?

Problem with number fields using ASP

Hello all,
I am running IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 SP 2. I have Oracle 8.1.5 installed on this machine. I am currently only using the sample database that with Oracle. When I run a simple select statement from the ASP page, I see everything correctly, except the number fields. In SQL Plus, the same query works fine. The query only has three types of fields --> varchar, date and number. Varchar and date fields show up fine but the number doesnt. It shows up as 0. I am giving the code I used below. Please let me know if I am missing something or if there is a bug that needs to be patched. If it is a bug, then please let me know where I can find the patch for it.

Hi all:
It seems like the above mentioned case is a bug. Supposedly it has been fixed in newer versions of Oracle but I am not sure about it as I dont have the time or resources to test and find out. But here is the fix for it in 8.1.5.
It seems only the fields that have a size defined along with the number field dont show up properly. If you leave the number field as it is (without specifying the size), then it seems to work fine.

Can I set a number field in Acrobat that will allow me to start with Zero?

For example 012594 when I type this in as a number the zero disappears, is there anyway I can script it to allow the use of a Zero? I know I can do this by making it a text field but to limit people making mistakes of accidentally typing a letter in I was trying to make it number only for example a Mobile number or Account number where there are to be no letters.

The following will allow you to only input numbers and spaces. Set up a Custom Keystroke script which calls this function. And make your field a text field, not a number field.

I open facebook login page on my android phone, enter email Id and when i enter a character in the password field. Few characters get entered automatically.

Iam using PAYR table to fetch the cheque number of a particular vendor, companycode, account number and postdate..
But for some vendors, eventhough the cheque numbers are assigned, PAYR table did n't able to fetch the records.
Are there any other FI Tables exist for Cheque number fields? If so, please let me know.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*You can inspect and manage all permissions on the about:permissions page, via the location bar.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images permissions.default.images
