Entity EJB deployment on Oracle through JDeveloper 3.2

I have a project which is using Oracle 9iAS as the for the web server. There were intial plans to use the 8i database within the 9iAS machine as the place where the EJBs would be stored. There was a comment from the Oracle support people that the EJBs would be better off stored on the backend. We are trying to do the same.
We have experienced mainly two problems
1) While trying to deploy the container managed beans through JDeveloper, just after creating the deployment profile, an error ORA - 00904 comes up. (no columns). Then there is a prompt to install BC4J. On doing that the error comes up again and while it goes further, it says 'Exhausted ResultSet'. But the BMP entity beans are working OK.
2) We had a bug report from the Oracle people on entity bean support through JDeveloper on non-NT machines. But we have been trying to deploy beans on the Solaris DB using JDeveloper and we keep getting 'peer socket disconnected errors'. I'll try the workaround which was suggestesd by the Oracle people to solve the problem and get back on this.
I don't know how Oracle will measure up to the performance when EJBs are running. But the problems mentioned above would have to be solved first.
Can anyone help out?
Thanks in advance.
Aby Philip

I can't resist a comment here. Oracle folks seem to always recommend putting the EJBs in back-end database. How many real-world enterprise-scale applications (i.e., one's that would need EJBs at all) have a non-shared back-end database? And in those cases, who in their right mind would accept running application code in the back-end database? I guess Oracle just hasn't really bought in to the concept of multi-tiered applications. The whole reason for separating the business logic tier from the EIS tier is to insulate the EIS services from the demands of the business logic code.
So from that perspective, I would highly recommend running an 8.1.7 instance in your middle tier to house your EJBs. Then you can hook up to your EIS tier either with database links, or (for better performance) by caching data in the EJB database from the EIS tier.
As for your specific issues, I can't help with the first. On issue 2, I am installing the 8.1.7.1 patch set today and I'll let you know if it fixes the JDeveloper --> Solaris deployment problem.

    Chris,
    Perhaps you should be checking if the user you wish to deploy
    EJBs to has at least JAVAUSERPRIV.
    As SYSTEM
    grant JAVAUSERPRIV to <user>;
    Good luck

  • Porblem with Java Proxy EJB deploy to XI through NWDI

    Situation - I have a web app in Server A (WAS7), it needs to call a java proxy in Server B (XI WAS7). I want to deploy the Java Proxy EJB into the landscape using NWDI. To do this I created an external library with public parts that contains the required jars to build the java proxies. These are aii_msg_runtime.jar, aii_proxy_xirt.jar, and aii_utilxi_misc.jar. The EJB module used part is mapped to the library's public parts. Everything builds fine and the deployment was successful into XI.
    Problem - When my web application makes a remote call to the java proxy in XI, NoClassDefFoundError occurs. The first jar that it complain about was aii_util_cimaccess.jar. I included this jar into the library and redeployed. Called the java proxy again, and got another NoClassDefFoundError exception. Now it wanted the lrcclient.jar. I included that into the library and redeployed. Now it wanted another jar. The issue is that all these jars are in the XI server and I shouldn't have to add them as part of the library. Is there a SCA out there that contains these jars, or did I just forget to mark a checkbox somewhere when creating the EJB so that it would reference the XI jars without me adding them to the library?
    Note - This architecture works fine without having to add the jars above, if I deploy the Java Proxy EJB from my workspace to XI through the SDM process available through NWDS. This only breaks when I deploy through NWDI.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Jdk 1.2 clients running ejb deployed on oracle 8.1.5

    Oracle claims that it is possible to run jdk 1.2 clients with ejb on oracle 8.1.5 in the faq : http://technet.oracle.com/products/oracle8i/htdocs/jserver_faq/815faq0012.html
    If you have JDK1.2 on the client side and:
    8.1.5 clients connecting to an 8.1.5 server: This does not work, because of conflicts with the ORB supplied in JDK1.2.
    8.1.5 clients connecting to an 8.1.6 server: This does not work, because of conflicts with the ORB supplied in JDK1.2.
    8.1.6 clients connecting to an 8.1.5 server: This works provided the "server" portion of the application is developed/loaded using the client side tools and jars that are supplied with 8.1.5.
    What do they meen with 8.1.6 clients? and how to make 8.1.6 clients?

    Oracle 8.1.6's JVM uses JDK 1.2. Oracle's 8.1.6 JDBC drivers support JDBC2 and JDK2. The 8.1.6 drivers are available for download from OTN under the Technologies section.
    If you develop a client (application, applet, servlet, JSP, etc.) using the Oracle 8.1.6 JDBC drivers, then this is considered an Oracle 8.1.6 client.

  • Database Views with Entity EJBs

    Is it possible to use Weblogic Workshop to create a CMP entity EJB on an Oracle database view for a Weblogic 8.1 server?
    Is there special configuration I need to do for either the Oracle or Weblogic side to accomplish this?
    Thanks.

    table exists and is accessible.
    The view is on the same datasource that I have
    successfully created all of my other entity EJBs
    (from tables).
    I can select data from the view using JDBC and the

    to.
    Any ideas what might be wrong with my view?Are you using synonyms or aliases? I would double check those...

  • Errors when deploy a simple entity ejb module to oc4j 10g?

    I work as following steps:
    1. new project
    2. new Digram-->EJB Diagram
    3. Drag a Entity bean ico to Diagram and name it with Student, then add a id&name column to it.
    4 set the entity-ejb Student's Resource Reference's property: name(MysqlPool),ResourceType(com.mysql.jdbc.Driver),Authentification(Container)
    (in oc4j, I have set the pool connection--MysqlPool)
    5 use command to start oc4j 10.1.3 in jdev10.1.3
    6 In Jdeveloper IDE, select ejb-jar.xml and use right mouse button to call out the menu and then select "Cretae ejb or jar deploy profile", set the deploy platform to my oc4j connection.
    7 select the deploy profile and deploy to my oc4j connection, then errors were reported as following:
    Target platform is Standalone OC4J 10.1.3 (AppServerConnection1).

    what's the meaning about Error finding a suitable DataSource: Error looking up cmt-datasource at jdbc/OracleDS (name not found)?
    I didn't use jdbc/OracleDS Datasource, and I deleted it from config\data-source.xml.
    Is it cause those errors or my operation rong?
    Who can tell me the entity ejb's deploy method&step?

    Yes, now I added a connection pool and a datasource in oc4j, and set the datasource's jndi name to "jdbc/OracleDS".For The connection pool,I use the mysql database.
    Followed the above operation, I repeat the deployment and it deployed successfully.
    Viewed by web-control-for-oc4j, I found jdeveloper automaticly created a datasource and pool for the ejb module.However, the datasource's parameter(connection-factory factory-class="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource") is wrong.
    So I open Tools Menu->Preferences menu and setted the Deploy property to "unbundle datasource...".Then I Created a file named data-sources.xml in project and filled out the correct properties.
    After I deploied the ejb-module, I openned the deploied .ear file with winrar to view its contents.I found the factory-class property's value is still wrong which included in data-sources.xml file in Mata-Inf directory,but the property of the data-sources.xml file in .jar file is correct.So, the class factory value of the deploied ejb-application's connection pool still is "oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource".It couldn't work surely.
    Of course, I can modity the data-sources.xml in .ear file.
    But has some more better method to settle this problem while not manuelly?

  • CMP EJB CLOB/BLOB retrieval issues from Oracle through JBoss

    I have some EJB 2.0 CMP Entity Beans, deployed on a JBoss 3.07 application server.
    In some of my beans I have Strings that I would like to map to a CLOB in my database as the Strings could easily be more than 4000 characters, and some byte arrays that I would like to map to a BLOB in my database to store files.
    When I use PostgreSQL as my datastore in JBoss I can store and retrieve data from my CLOBs and BLOBs just fine.
    However when I use an Oracle 9i (9.0.1) database for my datastore, I can write the information to the CLOB/BLOB fields (I can see it when I manually check the tables), but for some reason I cannot retrieve the information when I load my beans. The fields that map to the CLOB/BLOB are null, and eventually resave themselves overwriting the data in the database.
    When I test using LONG RAW as a type it works perfectly, but LONG RAW is not a standard SQL type. I do not want to convert my beans to BMP, and also do not want to have any Oracle specific code in my beans to store retrieve my information. I need my beans to be completely database independant.
    Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing my retrieval problem and what I could do to fix it?

    I solved my problem.
    I am using XDoclet to generate my bean interfaces and xml files etc., and it generates the jbosscmp-jdbc.xml file for me.
    I forgot to add @jboss tags to my beans so that the jbosscmp-jdbc.xml file includes tags to overwrite the default cmp mapping (string to varchar) to be from string to clob for those specific long string fields that i want.

  • Create an EAR in JDeveloper to deploy on Oracle AS 10g

    I have a J2EE project with EJBs and JSPs. I am using JDEVELOPER as my IDE. I need to deploy my application on ORACLE 10G APP SERVER.
    I need to create an EAR file consisting of my EJBs and JSPs to deploy the appln.
    When i go into Deployment Profiles in JDeveloper and try to create an EAR file, it does create the EAR file but the contents of the file are only 2-3 xml files, there is nothing else in it.
    I am wondering how on earth do i need to create my EAR package so that i can deploy on Oracle APP Server.
    This is actually very urgent... so i would really really appreciate and thank you if someone could help me out....
    Thank you very much in advance

  • Is there an MBean for a deployed entity EJB?

    Hi,
    I need to access the method invocation times, availability, remove count, create count etc. of a deployed entity EJB through JMX MBean, in JBoss.
    I have deployed the entity bean and the stateless DAO bean that operates on the entity bean. I do find an MBean for this DAO in the JMX-console of JBoss, but not an MBean for the entity EJB.
    a) Why do I not find an MBean for the same?
    b) How is it possible to get the MBean created for the entity EJB?
    Speedy help solicited.
    Thanks a bunch in advance guys !

    When executing an operation via JMX using JConsole, I get the following error:
    Problem invoking getManifest : java.rmi.UnmarshallException: Error unmarshalling return: nested is: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: foo.bar.InernalServiceException (no security manager: RMI class loader disabled)
    Code snippet:
    public ArrayList getManifest(String s) throws InternalServiceException, MBeanException{
    String path = ".\\foo_services.jar"; // Invalid path on purpose to test exception...
    File file = new File(path);
    FileInputStream fileInput;
    try {
    fileInput = new FileInputStream(file);
    } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
    String msg = "The manifest file is not found in the given path";
    if (logger.isErrorEnabled()) logger.error(msg);
    throw new InternalServiceException(msg, ErrorConstants.JMX_FILE_NOT_FOUND);
    If I throw new RuntimeException(msg, e) instead of InternalServiceException(msg, ErrorConstants.JMX_FILE_NOT_FOUND), it works and I get the appropriate exception.
    What is the reason for this?
