Entity Object operations

Hi,
I have calculated data into VO1 basaded in EO1 and others EO, the VO2 is a query that no present entry fields, in the VO1 exist data from EOs and calculated data. I need insert these calculated data in EO1, how do it? it possible to access DCBindingContainer from the EO1 to find the Iterator, then the VO1 row to then in the doDML method insert them?

Hi CM,
ok, if the VO1 is based in EO1 then EO1 is automatically updated, but I need insert calculated data from VO1(in which I made some calculations with other attributes of others 'EOs'), now how insert it in EO1?. it is possible to apply my approach above?

• ADF Entity Object: Securable Operation "Create"?

Hello,
I have the following scenario: Within one view I have a table bound to a view object that bases on an entity object. The view also contains a "create insert" button.
Now I want to secure the "create insert" operation with a certain application role. However, within the entity object I can only activate the removeCurrentRow, read and update options as securable operation. Is there any way to control the creation of new items?

• Problem while setting new value to entity object attribute in doDML meathod

Hi all,
I am overriding the entity objects doDML method for generating the value of Sequence Number just before insert .
For this puropose i am using doDML method. I am fetching the maximum value for the sequence number feild from the table by a prepared statement
and then incrementing that value by one.
protected void doDML(int operation, TransactionEvent e) {
if (operation == DML_INSERT) {
// code for getting the max+1 of sequence number before insert
//command executes.
try {

"select nvl(max(seq_no),0)+1  from WF_LEAVE_HDR where org_unit_code = " +
this.getOrgUnitCode();
PreparedStatement pstmt =
getDBTransaction().createPreparedStatement(sql, 0);
ResultSet rs = pstmt.executeQuery();
rs.next();
Integer newSeqNo =rs.getInt(1); //(Number)rs.getString(0);
//this.setSeqNo(new Number(newSeqNo));
setAttributeInternal("SeqNo",new Number(newSeqNo));
System.out.println("Value of new seq no is -->>"+getSeqNo());
} catch (Exception excpt) {
System.out.println("Inside catch block ");
excpt.printStackTrace();
super.doDML(operation, e);
}i am getting the value correct by using the sql statement but while i am using setAttributeInternal("SeqNo",new Number(newSeqNo));
it is giving an error and value for new sequence no is not passed to the seq no feild of the entity object. I have tried this.setSeqNo(new Number(newSeqNo))
but it is also not wotrking .
Any one please help , I am using Jdeveloper 10.1.3
Thanks all in advance.

iloveoracle,
Sigh... in addition to doing this in doDML (which Dimitar points out is the wrong place to do this)... you are making a huge huge mistake.
select nvl(max(seq_no),0)+1 from WF_LEAVE_HDRWhat happens when two people do this at around the same time? You don't do any locking, so you will get two rows with the same SeqNo. This is absolutely the wrong way of doing sequence numbers. The best way of doing this would be to use real sequence numbers (an Oracle sequence) and ignore the fact that there will be gaps. If you insist on using your approach, you MUST LOCK THE ENTIRE TABLE before you try to do your little max() + 1 trick, otherwise you run the very real risk of getting duplicate SeqNos. OK, I see that you are trying to do sequences by org_unit_code, so you don't have to lock the whole table, but you do have to have some way of holding a lock. You must also write some code to be able to handle an "unable to get the lock because someone else already holds it" type of situation.
<rant>
I have seen so many people try to do this little max() + 1 trick. It DOES NOT, WILL NOT work until you handle locking properly. One question that I often ask when I interview database developers is about generating "gapless" sequences; unless the job is for a brand-new-with-absolutely-no-experience trainee, answering "select max() + 1" without any mention of concurrency issues would be grounds for an immediate rejection of the candidate. Seriously. Have a run over to http://asktom.oracle.com and search for "gapless" if you'd like to see a more strongly worded rant.
</rant>
Bottom line, just use an Oracle sequence if it's at all possible; otherwise, be prepared to write some bunches of code to deal with locking.

• Dynamic Creation of Entity Objects (ADF Business Components)

Hi All,
We have a requirement to create Entity Objects for the dynamically generated tables in our application and at the same time bind them to different views.
Our product create multiple tables at runtime with some sort of naming convention, and we couldn't find a way in JDeveloper to generate entity objects for the tables created dynamically.
Please provide some pointers if you have experienced or worked on similar requirement.
Thanks,
Nikhilesh

Thanks for the help Sudipto.
The link which you have shared, describes the creation of an entity object and then modify the operations like Delete Update and Insert etc to be performed on the entity object by creating IMPL classes and implementing certain interfaces.
But I need to create Entity objects dynamically. My application creates new tables for some functionality at the run time and I have to create Entity objects for those new tables as soon as the new tables are created.
I was just wondering if, there is any API available for creating the entity object from Java code instead of invoking the wizard in the Jdeveloper.

• ADF BC Entity Object read security

hi
Please consider the example application in this blog post by Andrejus Baranovskis:
"ADF Security 11g and ADF Business Components"
http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2008/10/adf-security-11g-and-adf-business.html
What is the "read" operation used for in the Security section of the "Jobs" Entity Object configuration?
I modified the example application and checked the enabled checkbox for the "read" operation on the "Jobs" Entity Object. After that, using the "Edit Authorization..." dialog (from the context menu on the "Jobs" Entity Object in the Structure Panel), I checked the "Read" checkbox for the "clerk" role.
This looks to me like a configuration from which one could expect that only a "clerk" can read.
After that I run the "HrModule" Application Module and authenticate as a "developer" (user "steve"), which has no privileges granted, and I can still read all the attributes for the rows in the "JobsView1" View Object instance (which is based on the "JobsView" View Object for which all the attributes come from the "Jobs" Entity Object).
How can this be explained?
many thanks

Thanks for your reply Brenden.
Yes, my question seems to be the same as in the forum thread you refer to,
"11g ADF BC security - read operation?".
In that thread Frank Nimphius points out "this seems to be malfunctioning and will be bugged",
and also Chris Muir writes "... the documentation is a little misleading then ...".

• Removing the entity object commit from transaction handler

Hi,
The business reuirement of the OAFWK page developed by us is as explained below:
The basic functionality is of updating the attributes of items attached to the change order.
The UI components displayed in the page(Item attribute changes region) are built based on the properties of the item attributes as LOV,poplist,textbox etc..
The dynamic VO mapped to these UI components is based on a standard entity object.
User operation:Select any attribute group and click on Go button.The Item attributes of the attribute group are displayed.Enter values in the Item Attributes and click on Apply button of the region.(changes made in the attributes related to the attribute group are committed to the database using
<Root AM>.getTransaction.commit()).
Now we have two such regions in the same page.
On top of the page the item attributes of _{color:#800000}<Item Type X>{color}_ are displayed.
Down the page, the item attributes of {color:#0000ff}<_Item Type Y_>{color} are displayed.
In few special cases i.e for few item attributes, on click of Apply button for {color:#0000ff}_Item Y_{color} , the attributes of {color:#800000}I_tem X_{color} are to be updated by calling a PLSQL API.When Apply button in the Item attributes of _{color:#0000ff}Item Type Y{color}_ is clicked,the execution of controllers is :
1.Controllers of Item attribute changes region of {color:#800000}<Item Type X> {color}The dynamic VO is built for the item attributes of Item Type X
2.Controllers of the Item attribute changes region of {color:#0000ff}Item Type Y{color} The dynamic VO is built for the item attributes of Item Type Y.In the last controller of the hierarchy, the PLSQL API call is included(by invoking the method in AM) to update few attribute values of {color:#800000}Item Type X and finally <Root AM>.getTransaction().commit().
Problem : The updated values by PLSQL API for {color:#800000}_Item Type X_{color} are not reflected in the database but indeed the values entered by user for {color:#800000}_Item Type X_{color} in the top of the page are committed(The Apply button for {color:#800000}_Item Type X_{color} is not clicked).
_>>Please note that the dynamic VOs of both the Item Types are built on the same standard Entity Object_
I am struggling to know the reason why the values updated by PLSQL API are overwrittem by the values in the entity object even though the PLSQL API is called in the last controller of execution.Please let me know if there is any OAFWK constraint.
I tried the approach of removing the commit of the dynamic VO built in the region of {color:#800000}_Item Type X>_ {color}{color:#000000}I fetched the entity implementation of the dynamic VO row and used removeandRetain(),revert().But this approach failed.I am referring to the jdevdoc for the built-in methods.
{color}
Now the requirement is the latest values updated by API (for {color:#800000}_Item Type X_{color}) should be committed in the database but not the values updated by the entity object for {color:#800000}_Item Type X_ {color}{color:#000000}in the item attributes region{color}.
There should a single commit for the entire transaction of the page.
Is there any chance to remove the commit of item attributes of {color:#800000}_Item X_{color} alone from the transaction handler?There are few methods in oracle.jbo.server.EntityImpl class such as doRemoveFromTransactionManager().But these methods are either protected or private.So classes of other packages cannot access them.
So pelase suggest me if there is a workaround for this scenario.
Thanks and Regards,
Kiran

Hi Sumit,
Yes I agree on that front that updating the same record through PLSQL and EO is not the right approach.
But the business requirement is as such and we do not have any workaround for this.
Please let me know if there is any way to avoid the EO commit by removing from transaction listener.

Kiran

• Use of Entity object

Hi Everyone,
I am totally new to using JDeveloper and the ADF Framework.The following is my Environment setup :-
1] Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.1 - Production
2] JDeveloper 9.0.5.2
Need ur help in answering my following queries :-
1] Is it possible to access the Entity object directly from a calling class and execute the INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE operations ? In either of the cases, please let me know how it can be done, preferably with some sample code.
2] Can I used the View object without Entity object for retrieving data from the database ? Please help me with some sample code if possible.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Detail Rule, copy attribute value form master.
In DetailEOImpl:
protected void create(AttributeList attributeList)
setAttribute(MASTERFIELD,this.getMaster().getMasterField());
super.create(attributeList);
Master rule, set flag to 0 if no details else set to 1.
In the MasterEOImpl added method to check if detail row exists based on Row Iterator => no db retrieval?
This method also sets the flag accordingly:
protected void checkHasOtherDetails()
oracle.jbo.RowIterator ri = this.getRetrieveFromdetail();
ri.last();
// last() must be called else hasNext() returns true even on last delete ???
Number hasDetails = Constants.NUMBER_NO; // = 1
if (ri.hasNext() || ri.hasPrevious())
hasDetails = Constants.NUMBER_YES; // = 0
if (!getHasDetailsFlag().equals(hasDetails)) {
this.setHasDetailsFlag(hasDetails);
I call this method in the remove method of the detailEOImpl:
public void remove()
this.getRetrieeFromMaster().checkHasOtherDetails();
super.remove();
To set the flag I added follwoing code in the create method of the DetailEOImpl:
protected void create(AttributeList attributeList)
setAttribute(MASTERFIELD,this.getMaster().getMasterField());
**** ADDED ***
Number masterHasDetailsFlag = getRetrieveFromMaster().getHasDetailsFlag();
if (!masterHasDetailsFlag.equals(Constants.NUMBER_YES)) {
getRetrieveFromMaster().setHasDetailsFlag(Constants.NUMBER_YES));
super.create(attributeList);
One more question:
Is there a danger of calling last() on row iterators in create/update/remove methods of *Impl files?
=> current row changed => any effect on display in JPanel
Thanks
Frederic
PS All variable/method/class names have been manually renamed in this code so some small syntax problems may exist.

• Validation of attribute in Entity Object with List Rule Type

hi all
I have an entity "currncy" and I want to make
a validation in entity level on its attribute "Isdefaultcurrency"
which is boolean.
Entity Object : Currency
attributes :
1. Currencyid DBsequence
2. Currencyname String
3. Isdefaultcurrency, Boolean, CheckBox
Rule Type : List
Operator : In
List Type : Query Result 'select ISDEFAULTCURRENCY from currency where ISDEFAULTCURRENCY=1'
I want when user insert in table, validation checks the attribute 'Isdefaultcurrency'
was true then show the error message that there was default currency and if you
want to set it to true (or default) you must change another record that was true
and uncheck it then back to current record and will make it true and
there is one record in my table that its attribute 'Isdefaultcurrency' must be true
this validation that I used , it does not work correctly and it allows to enter 2 records with
true value for Isdefaultcurrency. In fact I want when User Enter the First record and
set the Isdefaultcurrency to true then enter the second record and set the Isdefaultcurrency
to true the error message will be shown.
pleas explain it
Edited by: Marzieh on Jan 30, 2012 9:43 PM

Is it that you want to only allow one record in the table to have isdefaultcurrency='1'?
yes , that is correct . I used Oracle DataBase .
DECODE(isdefaultcurrency, 1, 1, null) please explain about it.
isdefaultcurrency attribute has boolean Type with 0 or 1 values.
I would like to show an error if check box was checked for the second time. The idea is that just
one check box should be checked.
thanks for your answer

• How I configure a default value in an entity object?

Hi,
1:how I configure a default value in an entity object?
attribute type: DATE
I want to set the current date
...thanks

Override the create() action in your entity object implementation:
protected void create(AttributeList attributeList)
* This method should be subclassed to supply programmatic default values to
* various attributes of a new Entity Object. For example, to create a sequence.
* Instances of subclasses should call super.create() before performing any operations.
System.out.println("create(AttributeList attributeList) - start");
Date datSysdate = ( oracle.jbo.domain.Date) Date.getCurrentDate();
super.create(attributeList);
// set the default to today...
setHiredate( datSysdate );
System.out.println("create(AttributeList attributeList) - end");
}

• Creating Entity Object from Service Interface - JDeveloper version 11.1.1.3

In our project, we don't intend to have any JDBC connection to a database and want to create all my entity objects using SDO web services deployed in a remote server. I could create an entity object based on a SDO web service deployed in the standalone WL server successfully. But at the time of Development,when I select ADF Business Component --> Entity Object, it always takes to a screen that prompts for a JDBC connection, if you have no connection defined in the project yet. To bypass this, I need to create a valid connection to a local DB and then I can go the next page that prompts me to to choose service interface and asks for a WSDL URL. How do I get around creating a JDBC connection and create a service interface based data source directly?
To get around this issue, I created a connection to a local DB by providing a wrong password to make sure that we don't need a valid db connection. The application module (Business Component Browser) works fine when the DB connection is broken. But when I create a JSF page and put the data control there, if we don't have the DB connection established it gives error during deployment.I tried deleting the unused connection, but that gives a lot of errors during deployment. My question is;
1. How can I create a service interface based data source by-passing the requirement for a connection?
2. If that's not possible - how can I cleanly delete the JDBC connection and all it's dependencies, so that, it deploys and runs without error

Frank,
Thanks for your response.
I have made some progress in last two days and solved some of the original issues. I deleted the fake JDBC connection from connection.xml that I had to use to go to the second screen that lets me select the WSDL for the service interface. After that, I checked off the "Auto Generate and Synchronize ..." option from Application --> Application Properties --> Deployment. (thanks to Steve Muench's blog post on this subject). After that, I could deploy the JSF page and the page shows up with no problem.
However, when I try to run the App Module that was created from the WSDL (service interface), it brings up a pop-up with heading "Password Required" that says "Enter the password for" and asks for a user name and password (not sure what they are as they take any value and takes me to the next screen). After that, I can open the View and navigate through it. When i change some data and try to commit - it makes the change to the data and stores in the DB but gives an error saying "(oracle.jbo.NotConnectedException) JBO-25200: Application module is not connected to a database."
Also, the data control created from the service interface had operations called Commit and Rollback. I used the Commit on JSF page and that does the exact same thing too. Any idea?
Also - when we consume a SDO WSDL to create the entity object - how can we access the SOAP Request and Response objects? We have to implement WS-Security by instrumenting the SOAP header and need to get a handle on that. Is there a mechanism similar to JAX-WS handler framework for SDO?

• Customizing Entity Object SQL Query prior to Insert?

I am using an ADF BC Entity Object to store values from a multi-page form input process.
At the end of the process, I plan to call a method that will programmatically take the values from the Entity Object and insert a new row to the database. I need to customize the query to add an encryption function to the insert for one of the fields. For example, instead of 'INSERT password' I need the SQL to be 'INSERT encrypt_fct(password)'.
Is this possible and if so how?
thanks

Hi javaX
Easiest way of achieving this in ADF BC is overriding the doDML method in your underlying EO's EntityImpl class. The following gives an example, assuming a table called users with username & password columns, where you wish to encrypt the password column with a SQL function named encrypt_fc:
protected void doDML(int operation, TransactionEvent transactionEvent) {
if (operation == DML_INSERT) {
CallableStatement statement = null;
String insertDML =
"INSERT INTO users (username, password) VALUES (?,encrypt_fc(?))";
statement =
getDBTransaction().createCallableStatement(insertDML, 1);
try {
// Bind the statement parameters and execute the statement
statement.setString(1, getUsername().toString());
statement.setString(2, getPassword().toString());
statement.execute();
} catch (Exception ex) {
throw new oracle.jbo.JboException(ex);
} finally {
try {
statement.close();
} catch (Exception nex) {
/* Ignore */
} else // operation == DML_UPDATE || DML_DELETE
super.doDML(operation, transactionEvent);
}Another way is to include the code for your encrypt function in your ADF model project. By this I mean convert the encrypt function to Java, then add it as a piece of code to your EntityImpl or a more generic library if needed elsewhere. This way you don't have to modify the doDML, but rather the EO setter routine to call your encyption function, and the unencrypted password isn't passed between ADF and the DB.
Hope this helps.
CM.

• Entity Object's "addNewRow" Permission, how to implement?

Hi,
this is a generic question about an implementation strategy to be followed for ADF Authorization.
I've been researching the definition of permissions at the entity object level, and successfully tested the 3 permission targets available: read, update, removeCurrentRow.
However, I'd actually need the full set of permission targets for CRUD operations, which means that ADF lacks an "addNewRow" to secure row creation on EOs.
What should be the strategy to implement that?
Is it a planned feature so waiting till, say, 11g Release 2 should bring it to the table, or has it been left out by design and thus it just won't be added? In the latter case, how to actually implement it?
I'd need to actually hide/disable the Create/CreateInsert button on my edit pages if the underlying EO does not allow new row creation for the current role. I gave a thought to EO's Custom Properties as a way to handle that extra permission flag, but is it a viable way? Can they be accessed through EL so that I can, say, use them directly in the Rendered/Disabled property of the button to regulate access?
Or would you suggest another strategy altogether?
Please share your ideas.
thanks,
RickyS

Well, I can definitely see some benefits in having security at the model layer, at least in our scenario. In a complex app with many edit pages often dealing multiple times with the same EOs, having to specify a single set of policies on the EO itself and see it automatically implemented on every page seems a plus and a step ahead from 10g - not that I tried Security in 10g, but I know the approach. Seeing fields automatically become read-only or datacontrol operation buttons such as Delete become disabled without specifying anything on the page is cleaner and will speed up development a bit, too (for large numbers of pages that might be significant, on a small app it's probably irrelevant).
Probably not as useful and powerful as model-driven lists, but still a welcome feature. You probably have a point about the double mainteinance, but that may be avoided if the BC layer security truly encompasses everything (e.g. if I can't rely on a "create" permissions, I'll certainly have to maintain additional code as well as additional BC data such as custom properties to deal with that, and this is even worse).
Another point is that I might want to enable/disable functionality on the page via EL/backing bean based on BC permissions, and that seems useful. Being able to express a condition like "this EO is accessible" or "this attribute is accessible" is sometimes much superior to "user belongs to this role". It's better to decouple roles from the secured targets and just use the latter, IMHO. Especially becuse we'll likely won't have a fixed set of static roles defined in advance for all customers we'll deploy our webapp to.
Just my 2 cents, anyway, you might end up being totally right :-)
Cheers,
RickyS

• How insert into another entity object

Hi ,
i hope find the solution for this case
i am using jdeveloper 11.2
and i have two entity object based on two table as follow
1 - DocTransaction entity
Attributes ( id , createdOn, createdBy ,modifiedOn,modifiedBy , docStatus-- default = 1-- , EmpId )
2- transHistory entity
Attributes ( id , transId--FK-- , Transdate, TransBy ,ToEmp , docStatus , docAction )
when inserting row in DocTrasaction it will insert row in transHistory and when update docStatus in DocTransaction it will insert row with updated status in transHistory and so on ( every DML in first entity ocure will insert it in first entity )
the problem is when docStatus updated after 7 days from creation with value (2 or 5 ) i want the row inserted in second entity with docStatus = 3 not ( 2 or 5 )
and if docStatus in first entity not updated within 7 days then automatically change its status to 3
my incomplete code in DocTrasactionImpl as follow
*protected void doDML(int operation, TransactionEvent e)  {*
super.doDML(operation, e);
*if (operation == DML_INSERT) {*
EntityDefImpl secDef = TranshistoryImpl.getDefinitionObject();
TranshistoryImpl insert = (TranshistoryImpl)secDef.createInstance2(getDBTransaction(), null);
insert.setTransId(this.getId().getSequenceNumber());
insert.setTransBy(this.getCreatedBy());
insert.setToEmp(this.getEmpId());
insert.setDocStatus(this.getDocStatus());
insert.setTransStatus(new Number(1));       // transaction still open
*if (operation == DML_UPDATE) {*
*// insert into history when update the status by user to 2 or 5 before 7 days from created the task*
Date today = new Date();
Long dateDiff =(today.dateValue().getTime())-(getCreatedOn().dateValue().getTime());
Boolean checkBefore=( (this.getDocStatus().intValue() == 2 && dateDiff <=7 )||( this.getDocStatus().intValue() == 5 && dateDiff<=7)) ; // change status before 7 days
Boolean checkAfter=( (this.getDocStatus().intValue() == 2 && dateDiff > 7 )||( this.getDocStatus().intValue() == 5 && dateDiff > 7)); // change status after 7 days
if ( checkBefore ) // update by user
EntityDefImpl secDef = TranshistoryImpl.getDefinitionObject();
TranshistoryImpl insert = (TranshistoryImpl)secDef.createInstance2(getDBTransaction(), null);
insert.setTransId(this.getId().getSequenceNumber());

• Entity Object Classes Example

Hi,
Does anyone have an example on how to use Entity Object Class for a given Entity Object (i.e. a table). I was looking for an example that shows usage of a DML operation (say for e.g. insert) using this Entity Object Class.
I did google, and searched this forum, but could not find an example.
Please help, Thanks you,

Thank you Shay.
I was searching just a little bit off, and moreover I could not see any end to end example, then. Thanks as always for your guidance.
I ended up doing the following for inserting a new row to a table using the entity object class as follows:
EntityDefImpl wmDoc = DocumentImpl.getDefinitionObject();
DocumentImpl newDoc;
newDoc = (DocumentImpl)wmDoc.createInstance2(((ApplicationModuleImpl)am).getDBTransaction(), null);
newDoc.setBlah(blah);
newDoc.setBlooh(blooh);
try
{    ((ApplicationModuleImpl)am).getDBTransaction().commit();
} catch (JboException ex) {
((ApplicationModuleImpl)am).getDBTransaction().rollback();
throw ex;
Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(am, false);
