Env Variable DISPLAY in ora user

Dear all,
I am installing Solution Manager 4.0 SR3 on Solaris 10 x64. I am in the middle of the installation when the installation for oracle is prompted.
I opened a terminal then,
su - oraslm
After that with the prompted location i ran ./RUNINSTALLER. This file carried out some checks and gave me the message that the DISPLAY is not set.
With root user, the command env gives me,
DISPLAY=:0.0
while i suppose that it should return like localhost:0.0 even it is not set. It is missing 'localhost'
After setting it with
DISPLAY=hostname:0.0
export DISPLAY and then check with env, it is giving me the correct value. But after restarting the OS, it is reset to again DISPLAY=:0.0
How to make it permanent? and for oracle user 'oraslm' how i set it permanently?
Thanks

- logon as root
- open a terminal window
- execute "xhost +"
- use that terminal window to "su - ora<sid>"
- open a second terminal window (as root)
- execute "echo $DISPLAY"
- go back to the first terminal window (ora<sid>) and execute "setenv DISPLAY <variable-of-other-window>"

  • Dynamic ORACLE_HOME in env variable PATH  not working

    Hi,
    We have an issue whereby we want the PATH to be dyanmic with respect to the ORACLE_HOME.
    Have implemented the solution in 'ORA-12557: TNS:Protocol Adapter Not Loadable' While Running OUI [ID 735400.1 but not working.
    We have Windows 2008 R2 server with Oracle 11.2.0.3 client installed.
    First when did set to check environment varibales, fouND no env. variable for ORACLE_HOME even though in registry so have set ORACLE_HOME as user env variable.
    Have changed system env variable PATH to have  %ORACLE_HOME%\bin; at very start
    when do PATH to check value shows
    literally as %ORACLE_HOME%\bin at start rather than translating to the real physical location as it does with other logical variables.
    How can we ensure translates the ORACLE_HOME correctly so PATH is O.K.

  • Get CGI env variables in a database procedure using new APEX Listener

    I already posted this question in the Apex Listener forum and still no replies after one week. The original post is here:
    Get CGI environment from APEX Listener within database procedure
    So please forgive me for posting in this forum as well, but there is a lot more activity here.
    I'd like to know how I can get the CGI environment from the APEX Listener. For example, if I want to write a procedure that inserts into a table the originating IP Address of the client making the web request, how do I get it?
    I am familiar with the Oracle Http Server and mod_plsql, and I know how to call OWA_UTIL.GET_CGI_ENV to get this sort of information. How do I do it using the APEX Listener?
    In particular, how do I do this when calling a custom procedure (not in an Apex workspace)? When I try it now, I get an error from owa_util. The cgi env seems to be empty or not initiated (owa.num_cgi_vars is null or zero).
    Specific set-up:
    I have a web server running the latest JDK, Glassfish, and 1.1.4 Apex Listener. It connects to another server running the latest 11.2 database. Apex is installed and running, but I am not really developing a traditional Apex application in a workspace. I mainly use it like you would use mod_plsql. In other words, I have custom pl/sql packages that are called directly via URL. The requests are forwarded by the listener to the database, and the DB executes the procedure and returns output using htp.p to send text back to the browser. And it works just fine for this purpose. But if I want to call GET_CGI_ENV to get information like the IP Address, web browser making the request, etc. I can't seem to get it with the OWA packages.
    Can anyone shed some light on this? If Apex Listener is not designed to do this, is there some kind of workaround I can use to forward this sort of information to the database for each request?

    I have not tried owa_util.print_cgi_env from SQL Workshop yet, as I have not created an APEX workspace. I have had no need for a workspace because of the way I am using APEX as a method for calling custom packages and stored procedures. In other words, I am using APEX strictly for the mod_plsql functionality. I just use it to forward requests to the database to execute pl/sql code, but I don't develop anything in APEX. My application is a web service with no screens and no direct user interface, which is why I did not need to create APEX forms. The front end is a mobile app that makes calls to the web service.
    But I have tried calling owa_util.print_cgi_env in one of my stored procedures and it returns no data, even when calling it from the web front-end.
    So I am beginning to believe that if the OWA toolkit works with APEX, then it must only be enabled when invoked within a workspace. Stand-alone procedures can be called via APEX, but apparently doing so does not initiate the CGI env variables. This set-up used to work under the OHS with mod_plsql. The embedded pl/sql gateway also works this way.
    Is there a procedure call that APEX is making to set the environment before each SQL Workshop request?
    My security model currently blocks access to all packages and procedures except for my custom packages. I am using the APEX Listener configuration to allow only the packages listed by name in a white list. But I thought I allowed all access when I first tried calling the OWA packages. I'll have to try that again.

  • Variables Display With Info Field Web Item

    Dear Friends,
    We are facing one issue in BI 7 WAD.Can any one please suggest how to achieve this..
    Issue1) In my query, we are having 10 variables and user has enterd 2 variables for his
    selection.After executing the web i need to display those 2 variables only.But in my case i
    am displaying along the two variables with values and remaining 8 variables as blank.I need
    to show those two variables only.For variable display i am using info field web item.Can any one
    throw some light on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Madhu

    Hi Madhu,
    It should work. Plz. check your variable settings again.
    Display Static Filter Values = Off (On in case you want to display characteristic restrictions used in your query)
    Display General Text Elements = Off (On in case you want infoprovider information)
    Display Dynamic Filter Values = Off (On in case you want dynamic filters on runtime to be displayed)
    Display Variables = On
    Variable Settings -> Only Variables with Values = On

  • .jar installer fails in console mode over missing X / variable DISPLAY

    Hi all,
    I tried to install the WebLogic Server in console mode according to the Installation Guide for Oracle WebLogic Server 12c Release 1, but couldn't get past an error.
    My system is a CentOS 6.4 with kernel 2.6.32-358.el6.i686 in a VMWare virtual machine, running text mode only (X is not installed). I have JRockIt installed, and variables MW_HOME, JAVA_HOME and PATH defined accordingly, and I am using a dedicated user to this installation. Both JRockIt and WLS are being installed in this user's home directory.
    I downloaded the generic .jar installer for WebLogic Server 12.1.2 (wls_121200.jar) and tried to install the server in console mode, with this command:
    java -jar <path>wls_121200.jar -mode=console
    In the initial checks, the installer complains that the environment variable DISPLAY is not set and asks if I want to continue or not. The installation guide says this is not required for a console mode installation, so I chose to continue anyway. Then the installation fails with a Java exception:
    java.awt.HeadLess exception:
    No X11 DISPLAY variable was set, but this program performed an operation which requires it.
    (Then the usual class dump)
    Should the console mode install ask for X? Did I miss anything? What should I do to be able to install the server in console mode?
    Many thanks,
    Emerson

    Hi,
    There is no console mode in WebLogic 12.1.2. It has been remove.
    See MOS note: "WebLogic Server 12.1.2 Generic Install Jar File Fails To Recognize Console Install Mode (Doc ID 1577869.1)"

  • Env variable confusion - newbie install

    Hello,
    I have completed the installation sequence for db 10g (10.2.0.1) on RHEL 4.3 (x86_64). I am somewhat confused by this installation procedure wrt env. variables such as ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_BASE, etc.
    The pre-installation guidelines are clear in saying that .bash_profile (in this case) for user 'oracle' should NOT set these variables prior to installation:
    8. If the ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME, or ORACLE_BASE environment variable is set
    in the file, then remove the corresponding lines from the file. (Preinstallation Tasks 2-41)
    User 'oracle's .bash_profile does not get updated during installation; subsequent login as 'oracle' shows that the env. variables are not set via other means. Is there a post-installation step I'm missing?
    Thank you again,
    Scott

    oraenv uses the ORACLE_SID to set the ORACLE_HOME and PATH - including making sure the ORACLE_HOME/bin is unique in the PATH
    But ... unless there is a database instance involved, ORACLE_SID is meaningless. It really does not have meaning until dbca is used to create a database, or the manual counterpart to dbca is invoked and oratab is updated.
    I have found there is a Catch-22 related to the oratab/oraenv which seems to have caused oraenv to be undervalued.
    However, due to the possibility of several ORACLE_HOMEs and several databases, since Oracle7 I have used the following sequence in my .profile
    export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin # if not already done
    export ORAENV_ASK=NO
    ORACLE_SID=orcl
    . orenv
    export ORAENV_ASK=
    and then I am able to source /usr/local/bin/oraenv on demand to set te SID, HOME and PATH for any database.
    It's so useful, I add entries for each ORACLE_HOME into the oratab, regardless of whether it represents a database or not. For example, I will have entries for GridAgent, OMS, and so on.
    I can not explain why the oraenv is not better discussed in the documentation. It misses a major 'feature'.

  • SharePoint 2013 - What are all requirement components for People Pickers to list, search, display, and assign users permission

    Hi All
    the past few months, I have been working with permission issues related to SharePoint 2013 site permission settings using People Pickers to list, search, display users to assign or check permission.
    Our environment include multiple domains and few forests. Our SharePoint farm is installed on one domain but the good thing is our AD structure are configured to have all other domains and forests with 2 ways trusts with this domain so domain
    users are authenticated and can access SharePoint just fine. Also SharePoint use default claim authentication.
    The problem is People Picker is not display all domains user accounts when site owners need to assign permission. So to resolve the problem, I had provisioned
    SA - User profile service and Import AD domain user accounts (one way) into Sharepoint.
    I configured stsadm.exe -o setproperty -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -pv
    for all domains and forests (eventhough, as mentioned we do have 2 ways trust)
    and sometime tried different query (user last name, domain\logonname, email address) if one is not showing.
    With all that added, People Pickers seem to find and display user account for all domains now.
    My question now is do UPS and all AD domains users need to be imported into SharePoint and STSadm configuration are required in order to have all domains user accounts to display in People Pickers so the site owners can
    find them and assign permission when needed?
    Please share your advices, comments as they are really valuable to me.
    Thanks
    Swanl

    UPS and people pickers are virtually unrelated. The only connection between them is to do with caching and updating user names and emails if they change over time, or in other words not relevant to your situation.
    To answer your question directly; Nope, you do not need to set up synchronisation connections to a domain to be able to pick up a person in a people picker. As you've seen you may need to run some STSADM commands to make sure they are checking the right
    places.

  • Logged-in user info doesn't display after the user updates their info

    I created 2 pages. Page 1 has a recordset that displays only the users username and password, I did a filter on this recordset as username = session var = MM_Username. when they click update, which is just a link to page 2, they go to page 2 which has a recordset that filters their user info the same way and allows them to update their username and password. I used an update behavior on this page as well. So, when the user updates their info it DOES change the database info and works great.
    The problem: When the user goes back to page 1 to see their updated username and password that they just updated, it is BLANK. no info displays on screen, even when I refresh the page. it's if the MM_Username var is not refreshing while logged-in. Because when the user logs out and logs back in, it DOES display new username and password on page 1.
    Now it DOES work when I take the filter off of page 1's recordset, but this won't do me any good b/c the user should of course only see their info.
    I am running DW CS3, php, and mysql.
    Please Help! thanks.

  • Do I need to set  system env variables for weblogic and SOA server installation?

    Hi All,
       I already have two weblogic application servers on my machine(that were installed by others).
    I observed some environment variables were also set in System variables(ORACLE_HOME,WEB_SERVER_HOME etc) section in Env variables section(Start Menu---> Computer --> properties ---).But why do we need to have system environment variables wherein we already have those variables in files like setDomainEnv.bat or/and setSOADoaminEnv.bat for each server.
    And one more thing system variables will be applicable for all servers(the whole machine) right.It may spoil the installation of new servers and present servers as variables should be unique to each server.
        I want to install weblogic and SOA server installation.
    So Can I remove the existing system variables(as they will applicable for every server) and install weblogic and SOA server installation without setting up the environment variables?
    Especially I have multiple Weblogic servers,In that case how it would be to have environment variables(JAVA_HOME,WL_HOME,ORACLE_HOME etc)?
    Please guide me on this to installl SOA suite .
    Thanks in advance

    Hi All,
       I already have two weblogic application servers on my machine(that were installed by others).

    Hi Prasad,
    Just go to that variables in query designer, and give the default values for the variables as 0-16 and for Fiscal year 2008.

    Now while generating the query in the variables screen select the personalization, so that these values will be fixed and personalized for the query.

  • Displaying the current users information instead of the value of the person who completed the form in the first place.

    I found this fantatic post regarding querying the user profile service
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/anneste/archive/2011/11/02/how-to-create-an-infopath-form-to-auto-populate-data-in-sharepoint-2010.aspx?pi47623=2#comments
    However i have an issue whenever the form is opened again either to view or edit, it displays the current users information
    instead of the value of the person who completed the form in the first place.
    Please help me, I'm turning more grey each minute

    I think it is how the current user information is stored based on your logic.
    You might be quering current value again when loading the form (Form load Rule).
    you have to tweak your logic, after the user submits the form you can set the username to the one who saved it.
    or in form load, write a logic to see if the form was not saved before and then query the username( by using internal field like "formstatue")
    Hope this helps!

  • How to set number of Rows of a table to be displayed based on user action?

    Hi Experts,
    I am getting data into the table. But only 5 records are displayed default. I want it to be a user selection.
    If user wishes to see 10 records, then first 10 records should get displayed. If user selects 'n' records then 'n' records should get displayed..
    How to achieve this?
    Regards,
    Yugesh A.

    hi Yugesh ,
    1 create  a input field UI
    2 bind its value property  to a attribute
    3 suppose ca_check attribute ( type string ) under node cn_check is binded
    read this in ur doinit of the view
      DATA lo_nd_cn_check TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node.
      DATA lo_el_cn_check TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_element.
      DATA ls_cn_check TYPE wd_this->element_cn_check.
      DATA lv_ca_check LIKE ls_cn_check-ca_check.
    * navigate from <CONTEXT> to <CN_CHECK> via lead selection
      lo_nd_cn_check = wd_context->get_child_node( name = wd_this->wdctx_cn_check ).
    * get element via lead selection
      lo_el_cn_check = lo_nd_cn_check->get_element(  ).
    * get single attribute
      lo_el_cn_check->get_attribute(
        EXPORTING
          name =  `CA_CHECK`
        IMPORTING
          value = lv_ca_check ).
    4 nw for  ur table , make a another context attribute of type either string or I , say attr1
    bind its visiblerowcount property of table to attr1
    5 make a attribute in ATTRIBUTES tab of type string , say attribute
    set its value to lv_ca_check in doinit itself
    wd_this->attribute = lv_ca_Check
    6 nw in the method , where u need to validate how m,any rows user enter or doinit itself , set attr1 to the value of that attribute created under ATTRIBUTES tab ( named attribute)
    DATA : lv_count type string .
    lv_count = wd_this->attribute
    7 nw its very simple , set attr1 to lv_count , as it contains the count of the number which has entered in the input field
    DATA lo_nd_cn_check TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node.
      DATA lo_el_cn_check TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_element.
      DATA ls_cn_check TYPE wd_this->element_cn_check.
      DATA attr1 LIKE ls_cn_check-ca_check.
    * navigate from <CONTEXT> to <CN_CHECK> via lead selection
      lo_nd_cn_check = wd_context->get_child_node( name = wd_this->wdctx_cn_check ).
    * get element via lead selection
      lo_el_cn_check = lo_nd_cn_check->get_element(  ).
    * set single attribute
      lo_el_cn_check->set_attribute(
        EXPORTING
          name =  `attr1`
          value = lv_count ).
    I hope it shud help
    proceed like these , u wud be able to achieve the desired functionality
    regards,
    amit
