Epub from pages

I not sure what to do.  I have started a collection of family stories that I want to add to over time and have available for family member to read either as an ebook or in the case of those without a tablet or iphone, on their computer as a pdf file(?).   I have collected them as a Pages 09 document and it is at present 60 pages long and I see I can export as an epub; however the size is over 50 mb so obviously I can't email them an epub document (although the pdf file is about 12mb and could go as an attachment).  How do I publish this book so that family members can access it as a book via ibooks or someother nonapple reader?  Should I have used iAuthor?
Any help appreciated.

Certainly not, since what it produces can only be read on an iPad (or OS 10.9 when that comes out).
The PDF format can be read on every platform, so why don't you just use that?
If you feel you must distribute .epub format, then you will have to put it on a website or in a service like dropbox and give instructions to the target audience about how to download it.
If you want to go through the process of publishing your book to the iBookstore or some other store it would of course be available to the public and not just your family.

  • I'm finding it difficult creating exporting EPUB from pages. Help please!

    Hello,
    I'm finding it quite complicating on how to create and export EPUB files from pages so I can use these to send to iBooks on the iBook store.
    Can someone please tell me in the simplest term, how to create and export an EPUB file in pages please???
    Thank you!

    That's fine. If I wrote my book on pages on iPad, could I send via email as pages doc to my mac then open in pages on my mac and then export to EPUB from my mac?
    I like writing on the move.

    I am exporting an ePub from a 57.6 MB pages file on my retina MacBook pro and the exported epub is 982.9 MB in size. Exporting the exact same file from Pages on my MacBook Air give me a 97.8 MB ePub file.

    Can anybody tell me what the problem is and how I can fix it?
    Thanks!

    You need to divide your document into chapters, limit the number of images and also their size.
    It sounds like you are using 7mb images which is very large for an ePub which is usually just screen resolution.

  • Export as ePub from Pages 09 v4.0.4 (614) crashes

    Every time I export to ePub Pages crashes (Pages quit unexpectedly). I'm using OS X 10.6.4 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. File began in Pages. Inserted content into Apple's ePub template. Not using first page as cover and there are no floating images. Before I start tearing the file apart, any suggestions? Any length maximum for pages? Do objects causing wrap produce problems?

    how was your system upgraded to 10.6.4 ?
    If you used "Software Update", download and apply the combo updater which make a better job.

  • Cannot find how to export from Pages to ePub

    I have Pages '09, and looked on Apple's tutorials for how to export as an ePub file... It says just click share, export, ePub, but I do not have an ePub option. My only options are PDF, Word, RTF, and Plain Text. Am I missing something very obvious?

    It's interesting that 'they' have decided to NOT let folks on 10.4 produce an ePub (from Pages). I understand that I cannot 'do' the whole ePub consumer side on this machine but I was hoping to get a bit of a headstart while on the road. (The mini at home base is running 10.6 and is my ePub production environment. That version of iWork9 does have the later Pages, which is why I was surprised when I could not find the same UI on my 'travel' machine.)
    As to why I don't upgrade the G4? I need one machine that can run Classic. So it will live at 10.4.11 for the rest of its life.
    I have my fingers crossed that today's announcement will include a suitable Macbook Air update ... one that is not too wide and/or too high. (The 13" 'books have been too large a footprint to replace my trusty 12" so I've been holding out...)

    I am a total newbie at making epubs...
    I have dragged a .mov audio file made in quicktime into my pages document.  It is inline.  The audio file works when I click on it (speaker icon) in the pages document.
    After converting to epub, the speaker icon disappears and I have no audio available.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

  • How can I code to play audio continuously from page to page in iBooks for reflow ePub

    Hi,
    I have tried and successfully completed the iBooks ambient soundtrack option in Fixed Layout ePub. It works fine.
    But while trying the same in Reflow ePub, it is not working in iPad iBooks. I have latest iBooks version and latest iOS version in my iPad.
    Please let me know how can I code to play audio continuously from page to page in iBooks for reflow ePub?
    Thanks,

    As soon as the user turns to the next page, the audio stops.
    That's how it works in all cases.

  • Going from Pages to EPUB using InDesign?

    Is there a guide for going from a Pages document to EPUB using InDesign? The target is a book that is over 105K words for 425 pages.
    I am an absolute beginner with InDesign and I was hoping to more finely control the outcome of EPUB generation by using InDesign rather than outputting from Pages using Export to EPUB. Unfortunately, ID isn't quite as intuitive as I had hoped it would be and I've run up against the wall.
    Do I load each chapter as a separate document and then collect them as a book file? Or can the book be loaded as one document? I've been trying as one document, but I can't it to appear in the main editing window. (It shows up fine in the story editing, but that gets tedious very quickly.)
    Last, while ID creates EPUB files, can it generate a MOBI or AZW file for the Amazon Kindle? I found no references for in concerning ID in the documentation, but thought I'd ask anyway.

    Thanks, Steve!
    I've already been hand-building the CSS & EPUB files. I was just hoping that InDesign would make it easier. Clearly, that's not the case.
    Apple's Pages does a very good job generating an EPUB which only requires a minimal amount of tweaking to the CSS to give it a final polish and further adjustments for e-readers other than an iOS device. Generating the MOBI/AZW for Kindle requires a bunch of jumping through hoops to prepare, which was what I was hoping to avoid.
    A few days to release, I have plenty of time get get the ebooks ready.
    A good heads up for any competent programmers out there—of which I am not—there is a huge market of self-publishing authors in need of a program that can take a RTF, Word or Pages formatted document and smoothly turn it into an EPUB or AZW file.

  • Export from Pages to ePub??

    Help! I need to export from Pages to epub.  I've read the tutorial a hundred times and it says that when you click on "export" one of the options should be epub.  However,  my only options are pdf, word, or rtf.  What am I doing wrong?

    If your admin bought the iWork package as a DVD, Pages '09 version 4.0.3 is really the late version available on this media.
    As fruhulda wrote, you must get and apply an updater (maybe you must ask the admin to do that, I know that some of them are a bit picky).
    PS, since last wednesday, the best Apple tool to create ePub is the free iBooks Author.

  • Image export from Pages to epub

    Hope this is the right forum.
    Question about exporting images from Pages to ePub: What does the following comment mean?
    Images beyond the 11MB of un-encoded image data allocation per chapter.
    1. Does "images" mean total number in chapter? Or is the 11MB per image?
    2. What is "un-encoded image data" please?
    Thanks.

    I asked the above question because I am writing a book with many pictures, and the exported ePub files for one particular chapter stop including pictures after a certain point.
    However, that point is much beyond 11MB. The pics average 600KB, and it includes 45 of them (about 27MB) before stopping.
    Thanks for the help.

  • I am exporting a Pages document to Epub and Pages is compressing my jpg images.  How do I keep the original jpg size during the export to epub process?

    I am exporting a Pages document to Epub and Pages is compressing my jpg images (I think to 72 dpi from original 600 dpi).
    How do I keep the original jpg size during the export to epub process?

    We are still trying learn how to use Pages to build ePub documents with high resolution graphics that will expand clearly when they are tapped. Very large screen shots are my example here.

  • What causes  carriage returns to become page turns in Epu  docs from Pages?

    I converted a long document from pages to Epub. Towards the end a section adds a new page at each carriage return. I tried everything. still can't fix it.

    I think that both your pages have a missing </div> at the end somewhere.
    Opps... that happened when I was stripping down the page to create a working example of my issue. I've fixed the missing div and re-uploaded both pages. The problem is still there.
    Change display: inline; to float: left; and add margin: 0 0 4px 4px; (as shown below)
    I had already tried using float, but something else in the code was forcing the columns to 2 instead of 3.
    Have you used "Apply Source Formatting" ?
    I use that religiously. I'm quite anal about visually clean code.
    Well, I just fixed the problem while replying... funny... I removed the margins from the actual img element (.imageThumb img) and placed it on the div which surrounds the img (.imageThumb). I also reapplied the float. Thanks all for the help - it helped me rethink. But I could have sworn I had once placed the margins on .imageThumb before and it didn't work.
    .imageThumb {
        width: 100px;
        height: 75px;
        display: inline;
        float: left;
        margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px;
        cursor: pointer;
    .imageThumb img {
        /*margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px;*/

  • Can I use a different mail client to "Send a Copy" from Pages?

    One of my favorite Pages features is its ability to send someone a copy of your document in Pages, Word, PDF, or ePub format via email with only a couple clicks in the "Share" button. But this feature only works if Mail, Apple's email client, is set as the default email client for your Mac. Because I use Unibox as my email client, I'm unable to take advantage of the "Send a Copy" feature in Pages. Is there a work around for this or a settings file within the system I can tweak to allow me to use a mail client other than Apple Mail to "Send a Copy" from Pages? Thank you!

    No, I haven't heard that. YOu have to do it the old fashion way and attach a document in your mail client before sending the mail.
