ER : 10268883 : DROP AS METHOD ACTIVITY ON TASK-FLOW SHOULD ALLOW CHOOSING

hi
In the context of Re: Task Flow API for programmatically retrieving parameters?, this forum thread is Re: Task Flow API for programmatically retrieving parameters? to get your vote or feedback on one specific ER:
- 10268883, "AM: DROP AS METHOD ACTIVITY ON TASK-FLOW SHOULD ALLOW CHOOSING PAGEDEF FILE"
It resulted from a suggestion by Steven Davelaar
at http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology/msg/b701acd873c3d888
"I think it would be a nice ADF enhancement that when you drag and drop an AM method as method activity onto a tasflow diagram, you get a choice to either create a new page def, or pick a page def of some other (view) activity already on the taskflow. "
(But, regardless the intent of this forum thread, feel free anytime to pursue other means to attract the attention of Oracle to a specific ER. Possibly by creating a service request referring to an ER, or by any other way you see fit.)
many thanks
Jan Vervecken

fyi
There is a +1 (or would it weigh more than one), "a jolly good idea ", from Duncan Mills.
at http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology/msg/bf7d2c32106b2e7b
"Sev 3 is the default status for an Enhancement so that's why it's at that value initially. I've actually upped the priority of this one as I think it's a jolly good idea and I don't really see any downside to it assuming you don't have a huge TFs with many many method activities of which only a small number are used most of the time."

  • How do I drag and drop an action onto a task flow?

    In How to pass View Object bind variable from ADF page John states that
    You should also consider dragging-and-dropping the executeWithParams operation on your task flow and wiring it to occur before your page instead of putting it in the page definition of the page itself - this way it is more clear what is happening, and is the recommended approach for 11g apps. When you drag-and-drop the operation, you can use the dialog to bind the parameter to your page-flow-scoped variable by supplying the proper EL there.
    How can I drag and drop the executeWithParams method onto a task flow. I am using 11.1.1.5.0 on LINUX?
    I'm presuming I a need a method action in my page flow.
    I have the following action defined in my page def file:
    <action IterBinding="localizedCustomerHierarchyViewIterator"
    id="executeQueryWithParamsForLocalizedCustomerHierarchyView"
    InstanceName="BusinessRulesAMDataControl.LocalizedCustomerHierarchyView"
    DataControl="BusinessRulesAMDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true"
    Action="executeWithParams">
    <NamedData NDName="RootEntityId"
    NDValue="#{pageFlowScope.recommendationRule.customerEntityId"
    NDType="java.lang.Long" NDOption="3"/>
    <NamedData NDName="Language"
    NDValue="#{pageFlowScope.recommendationRule.language}"
    NDType="java.lang.String" NDOption="3"/>
    </action>

    In summary, it appears you need the following artifacts in order to initialize a view object from parameters before rendering a .jsff view that relies on that view
    1) a method-call in task flow.xml file:
    <method-call id="executeWithParamsLocalizedCustomerHierarchyView">
    <method id="__5">#{bindings.executeWithParamsLocalizedCustomerHierarchyView.execute}</method>
    <outcome id="__12">
    <fixed-outcome id="__9">initializedLocalizedCustomerHierarchy</fixed-outcome>
    </outcome>
    </method-call>
    2) a control flow rule in the task flow .xml file whose source is (1) and whose destination is the view for which you want to intiialize a view object that supports an iterator that is bound to a list, tree, etc.
    3) an entry for the execute action in the databindings.cpx file
    <page path="/WEB-INF/[email protected]calizedCustomerHierarchyView"
    usageId="oracle_apps_br_view_RecommendationRulePFPageDef"/>
    4) the page def must be defined in the databindings.cpx file
    5) the page def needs to define action and iterator and list (or otherwise) that is used in UI.
    <iterator id="localizedCustomerHierarchyViewIterator"
    Binds="LocalizedCustomerHierarchyView"
    DataControl="BusinessRulesAMDataControl" RangeSize="25" Refresh="never">
    <sortCriteria>
    <sort attribute="Level" ascending="true"/>
    </sortCriteria>
    </iterator>
    <action IterBinding="localizedCustomerHierarchyViewIterator"
    id="executeWithParamsLocalizedCustomerHierarchyView"
    InstanceName="BusinessRulesAMDataControl.LocalizedCustomerHierarchyView"
    DataControl="BusinessRulesAMDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true"
    Action="executeWithParams">
    <NamedData NDName="RootEntityId"
    NDValue="#{pageFlowScope.recommendationRule.customerEntityId}"
    NDType="java.lang.Long"/>
    <NamedData NDName="Language"
    NDValue="#{pageFlowScope.recommendationRule.language}"
    NDType="java.lang.String"/>
    </action>
    <list ListOperMode="navigation"
    IterBinding="localizedCustomerHierarchyViewIterator"
    id="customerLocalizedEntityHierarchyList">
    <AttrNames>
    <Item Value="EntityName"/>
    </AttrNames>
    </list>
    6) a backing bean that provides the functions to initialize the parameters for execution
    The easiest way to get most of this is to drag the ExecuteWithParams from within the view in the datacontrols panel right onto the task flow diagram. The downside is that you are left with some pretty poorly named artifacts...
    Did I miss anything?

  • BackingBean Method call from Task flow isnot getting  the Binding Container

    Hi All,

          OperationBinding operationCreate = dcbindings.getOperationBinding("CreateInsert"); but it is evaluating to null and throwing null pointer exception.

  • Issue with calling a  method activity before page render

    Hi All,
    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.7.
    I am trying to achieve the approach defined in "1.b. Calling a Method in Backing Bean:" elaborated in the blog - https://blogs.oracle.com/adf/entry/an_epic_question_how_to
    As illustrated, I defined a default method activity (binding to a method in managed bean) and a view activity activity in a bounded task flow.
    When I launch the application (running the view activity), following error is encountered -
    oracle.adf.controller.metadata.ParsingException: ADFC-02020: Cannot find default activity 'check' in task flow definition '/WEB-INF/task-flow-definition.xml#task-flow-definition'.

  • 11g Task flow - Method call with router Issue

    Hi, I am using bounded task flow method call - which is default activity. The outcome of method call will go to a router and that decides which method/page fragment has to be selected. But when ever i try to call the default activity only the default out come of the router (Page fragment) is shown in the jspx. Sankari Kannan

    Hi Sankari,
    Since after the initial method call, your control flow has the router as its next stop, the //method-call/method/outcome/fixed-outcome can be set to a literal value(go to router) instead of an EL.
    And let router decide where to go next(by EL).
    Or you can discard your router activity, let the method-call activity decide where to go directly by setting //method-call/method/outcome/to-string to "true". Then the return value of the method decide the next stop.

  • Is it possible to access task flow parameter in EOImpl.create() method?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to access task flow parameter in EOImpl.create() method? If yes, please let me know how to access.
    FYI..I am having CreateInsert<xxx> activity in the task flow, which I believe calls EOImpl.create() method internally. While creating the entity, I want assign a default value based on task flow parameter.
    Thanks

    One way to pass task flow parameters to the model is during the task flow initialization. For this purpose you can create a prepare() method in your Application Module and call it from the task flow. By setting this method as the default in your task flow, it will be called each time the task flow starts. You can pass to the prepare() method any task flow parameters you wish as function arguments. In the prepare() method, save the task flow parameter values in EO or VO transient variables. These variables will be then accessible in the create() methods.

  • Task Flow based on Human Task

    Hi,
    I have created a Task Flow based on Human Task in the Ui project. The task flow is auto -generated with the taskdetails.jspx as the default activity. If I try to include a ExceuteWithParams method in the task flow as the default activity the page gives a 500 Error in the workliist application.
    Can I no have a method activity as the default activity in this task flow.
    Thanks
    Soumya

    Are you trying to set "Create with parameters" as default task flow activity ? in that case open the the task flow diagram , right click "Create with parameters" data control -> Mark Activity -> Default Activity.

  • Task Flow Exit Using contextual Events ??

    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.5.
    My application has a page which has two regions in it.
    First region has a bounded task flow with just one fragment in it(Just with a button)
    and Second region has a BTF which has five fragments in it(which is a kind of train process).
    On clicking the button in the first region I want to exit and reenter the bounded Taskflow in the second region.I am trying to do this using contextual events but the exit and reentry doesn’t happen as expected.
    For example - if the user is in the third fragment of the second region and clicks the button in the first region, then the task flow should exit and the control should go to the first fragment in the second region.
    In the consumer method I am returning the “action” string which will call the “TaskFlow Return call” activity but the “TaskFlow return call is not being called.
    Could some one help me resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Code for return from task flow

    Hi,
    I came across this TaskFlowUtils which contains utility methods related to task flow.
    Is there any method which will cause return from task Flow. I can't find the same.
    I do not want to return via Task Flow return activity.
    Regards,
    Nikhil

    Nikhil, which jdev version do you use?
    What is your use case?
    Are you referring to the class TaskFlowUtils Chris Muir developed and which is available through ADFEMG?
    If yes, this class is more to inspect the current task flow. It contains some methods to control the task flow (commit, rollback), but is not meant to navigate.
    It is essential to understand how task flows work, if they are called using a task flow call activity or if they are run in a region. A task flow run in a region is not meant to return. It always run once it initiated. There are patterns how regions communicate with their parent or other regions.
    So the question is what do you want to do?
    Why do you want to return from a task flow and why don't you want to use the task flow return activity?

  • ADF Task Flow based on HumanTask - Region withiin Task form

    Hello All,
    Was wondering if anybody here has sucessfully used region in their human task forms? I really like the idea of regions and after going through the tutorial here* I tired to implement it.
    Following are some additional details of the issue I'm facing.
    I have created a UI project based on a human task. The main <human task>_taskFlow.xml is bounded and non-fragmented. I then dropped 'view' component within this task flow and create a blank jspx page underneath. I then dragged and droped another bounded and fragmented task flow (which is also a train) on to this jspx page. The 2nd task flow has some jsff pages in a train. When I deploy run this bpm project,I can't see train form within the region and I get following Null Pointer Exception on the server:

    I'm not sure if I have all the terminology exactly correct, but basically I have a task flow that allows the user to edit data in a table. I want to open that task flow, pass a parameter from another task flow, and use that parameter to determine the row which I want to edit. A fairly typical use case I would imagine.
    I can get the calling task flow to call the other task flow, but I cannot seem to determine what to set the value of the parameter in the called task flow to so that it executes the query and populates the page with the data from the row specified by that parameter.
    What is the best practice for this type of use case?

  • Retain value of component when navigate in Task Flow

    Hi,
    my english isn't very good
    I use jdveloper 11.1.1.3.0
    I define a bounded task flow and 3 view in this btf to show 3 page fragment. in each view I put 2 Input Text component.
    the problem is when I navigate from one view to other view and back, the value of Input Texts is reset. Input Text doesn't bind to anything.
    is any way to retain the value of Input Text and other components when navigate through views without any binding?

    Hi,
    One solution might be to store your values at pageFlowScope. By doing this your variables are going to be alive and with the same values as long as you are inside your bounded task flow. For example,
    You can create your Java Bean and have something like:
    String variable1;
    String variable2;
    String variable3;
    String variable4;
    setters and getters for those.
    In your fragments the values of the inputText would be #{pageFlowScope.myBean.variable1.inputValue} and so on.
    Since your bean is created once when your task flow is created (choose pageFlowScope) your variables will remain the same while your taskflow is alive.
    hope this helpsIf his components are part of view objects, this shouldn't be necessary since a submit (the navigation buttons) would do the trick.

  • Data Source for reused bounded task flow

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0.
    I have a project from which I exported a bounded task flow to be used in other projects.
    When I include that bounded task flow in a separate project, its data source does not appear in the Databindings.cpx of the project in which it is reused.
    How will the data source for the reused task flow be set in the separate project?

    I have a project from which I exported a bounded task flow to be used in other projects
    By that you mean that you have crated a adfLibrary from the the task flow?
    When I include that bounded task flow in a separate project
    By that you mean you have added the adfLib created above to the other project from the resource palette, right click and 'add to project'?
    How will the data source for the reused task flow be set in the separate project?
    Once you have added the project you refresh the data control and the other task flow should show up.

  • Multiple independient instance of task flow

    Hello,
    How do I deploy multiple instances of the same task flow (in panelWindow)? but with total independence in BC.
    The idea is, for example, have several containers (N panelWindow's) and that performing N clicks on a menu, the containers are loaded with the same task flow (same definition different instance). But if you perform an action on one of them (create, delete, search, etc..), The others remain unchanged.
    The task flow should contain all the independence it used VO (Master-Detail,
    Master-Detail1 y Master-Detail2 Detail1 and even Master1-Detail1 and Master2-Detail 2, etc)
    I think the FW is not intended for this, but suddenly, a user requests something like this statement :-).
    Greetings.
    ////////////Castellano :-)
    Hola,
    ¿como implemento varias instancias de mismo task flow (en panelWindow)? pero con independencia total en BC.
    La idea es, por ejemplo, tener varios contenedores (N panelWindow's) y que al realizar N clicks sobre un menú, se carguen los contenedores con el mismo task flow (misma definicion distinta instancia). Pero que si realizo una accion en uno de ellos (create, delete, search, etc.), los demas no se modifiquen.
    El task flow deberia contener la independencia en todas las VO usadas en él (Master-Detail,
    Master-Detail1 y Master-Detail2 o incluso Master1-Detail1 y Master2-Detail 2, etc)
    Me parece que el FW no esta pensado para esto, pero de pronto, un usuario solicita algo parecido a lo enunciado :-).
    Saludos.

    You may configure the taskflows to use isolated DataControl frames. In this way each taskflow instance would have its own set of DataControl instance (and AM instances as a consequence) and the separate TF instances will not share its data.
    You can set that in the TF definition. Use the Property Inspector, go to the section "Behaviour" and uncheck the checkbox "Share data controls with calling task flow".
