ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

Since yesterday neither Safari or Chrome works for me. They refuse to load any websites (yesterday Facebook and Gmail worked, but today nothing works at all). Safari is just blank and Chrome shows the message "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE".
I don't know what to do?!! HELP!
//Sanna

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
{ sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3
{ launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
Step 4
ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal.

with IE 8.0, it shows I/O Error in place of my graphs and get's a pop up message that displays "Error - error unknown"

  • My mac connects to the Internet fine, but Sarfari, chrome, and Firefox will not work. Nor will programs that connect to the internet

This problem has been going on for a few days. my computer connects to the internet fine and runs fine, but none of my Internet browsers will work. I have deleted all my history, cache, cookies etc. For all browsers. I have also made sure that i have no proxies on and that no firewall is blocking my Internet. I have ran virus scans to look for malware and nothing comes up... I'm very confused.
For chrome I get errors like "err_socket_not_connected", "err_connection_closed", and "err_empty_response"
for safari it just says "safari can't open the page because safari can't establish a secure connection to the server"
please help me if you know anything! Thank you in advanced

    Hi, mattkaroni.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to use internet on any program that connects to the internet.  This sounds like the issue would be with your internet connection.  Try going through the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

  • MacBook Pro OSX 10.9.4

    Hello,
I recently updated my OS to 10.9.4 and started getting some Internet problems after the install. Before the update, my Internet was working fine, but afterwards, my browsers (Safari and Chrome) started restricting website access. Now, I can only access sites associated with Google (google.com, youtube.com, etc.). I can input searches into Google, but I cannot access any of the URLs upon clicking them.
When I try to access the non-Google web pages on Safari, I get a blank white page (the loading bar is already full by then). When I try to access the same non-Google web pages on Chrome, I get a "No data received" error. The error code on Chrome is  "Error code: ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE". I can access mail through the built-in mail application, and Network Diagnostics has repeatedly told me that I am connected to a functional Wi-Fi and that my Internet should be working properly, so I know that I am connected to a functional router. I have already tried clearing the DNS cache, but nothing's changed. I see that port 80 is open, so I know http is working.
To make sure that this isn't a router problem, I've tried to connect to non-Google sites on my home network and work network (both on different routers) but got the same result on both.
Can someone please help me out and tell me what they think might be wrong with my network connection?
    Thank you.

Hope apple can fix this soon if new patch 10.9.4 cause this.
Apple cannot fix problems they did not create. Eset and Avast are capable of doing nothing beneficial and can only cause problems. Uninstall it and determine if the problems subside.
Use Avast's uninstaller, which will remove it completely. Eset requires using the uninstaller included with its downloaded installation program (see screenshot):
Eset will also require manual techniques to uninstall components its uninstaller leaves behind, a common characteristic of poorly written software.
I am now can access an internet, with zero security.
It's a common misconception that you have "zero security" without junk such as Eset or Avast. OS X already includes robust protections against viruses and malware. Use your Mac the way it was intended to be used - without burdening it with useless garbage.

    Hello rei-nxx,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning connection issues:
    OS X Mavericks: Solve problems
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14374
    Problems connecting to the Internet
If you can’t connect to the Internet, there may be a problem with your cables, your devices, your network settings, or your Internet service.
First, try using Network Diagnostics, which can diagnose and resolve most problems.
If you have a wireless network, make sure your Mac is communicating with the router and that the router is connected to the Internet.
If your router is an AirPort Base Station, open AirPort Utility, then choose Help > AirPort Utility Help.
If your router is from a manufacturer other than Apple, refer to the router’s documentation.
Make sure all cables are firmly connected.
Make sure all external devices such as modems, hubs, and routers are plugged in, turned on, and have started up completely. Try resetting these devices by unplugging them for a couple of minutes, then plugging them back in.
Check indicator lights to make sure your modem or router is registering a connection to the network and to your Mac. If an indicator light does not come on, see the documentation that came with the device or contact your ISP.
Make sure you have the correct settings for your type of connection. Open the Network pane of System Preferences and check the status of each network service, such as Ethernet, Bluetooth, and AirPort. The network service you are using should have a green indicator and the word “Connected.” To view more information about your network service, click to highlight it. For additional help, click the “Assist me” button.
If all of the above are set up correctly and you still can’t connect to the Internet, call your ISP. There may be a temporary problem with the service.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Can't connect/log in/post on/open many websites

    Intro
I'm currently in Viet Nam, so I assume some of my problems are related to censorship policies, since I never had such problems before in my home country (Canada). I've been here for 3 months and I still have a month to go.
    Details:
I can load some websites (Twitter, some forum - SMF 2.0 or even here) but can't post anything (I get error 500, or server time out, or 'no data received').
    No data received
Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.
Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.
I can load some websites (Trello, StackOverflow), but can't login: when I try to use the Google Account auth, it loads forever and times out.
When I push code to my github, 70% of the time, the ssh connection times out.
I can't open Facebook, except for a few times when it worked for a single load, then any further link I'd click on the website would timeout.
Youtube videos won't load: the flash player will show up with a spinning wheel and nothing else happens. It eventually timeout. However, if I use something like `youtube-viewer` from the AUR, I can stream Youtube in MPlayer just fine.
On the same machine, from Windows, everything works fine.
Other websites load just fine, at a speed that is expected for the connection speed (6 Mbps). Same for downloads.
    What I tried:
The Facebook block is known by VN people and they usually change their DNS setting to use OpenDNS or Google's DNS. I did it by modifying my `resolv.conf.head` file. It still doesn't work. However that fix worked on Windows.
I installed Tor, but I can't connect to the network. The connection stalls while loading relay details.
I don't know what else to do to at least understand the nature of the problem.
Note Most of this is also true from my Android tablet.  But again, all these problem don't show up in Windows.  I don't know why.  However, from my Android tablet, if I use my phone 3G to make a hotspot, then I can access to everything normally.  Unfortunately, I do not have a wifi-card in my desktop.
I thought including this might help: /etc/resolve.conf.head
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.2200
    nameserver 8.8.8.8
    nameserver 8.8.4.4
    nameserver 127.0.0.1
The same settings are setup in my router (for the DNS primary and secondary).
    Cheers

Well that's interesting.  I don't think I'm doing anything illegal.  For Facebook, I know the government here has no official policy against it but that ISP are somehow encouraged to block it.  However pretty much everybody circumvent the DNS block that they practice.
Other than that, I assume that posting on this very forum is not illegal, and logging in my Google account is not illegal as well.  But I'm not a lawyer and I can't read Vietnamese laws.
Also, using other ISPs I do not have the problem I encounter with my connection at home (which is provided by the landlord).  So in good faith, I do not think that I am attempting to do anything illegal in Viet Nam.

  • Print Server with Apache Tomcat 6.0 and Cocoon 2 Problem...

    Hi,
My company have 2 server, (9i - APEX_3.1.2.00.02) and (10g - APEX_3.1.0.00.32), both in Http server running in OEL 4.0.
I tried the following cocoon installation in other window server,
    http://carlback.blogspot.com/2007/03/apex-cocoon-pdf-and-more.html
and I set both APEX Instants Setting, the report printing setting according to the installation above.
The 10g apex run perfectly, however the 9i apex cannot print pdf report. the following is the error message show when i click on the export pdf button.
The webpage at http://server9i:7777/pls/apex_camnet/f?p=105:1:3689040380318743457:PDF: might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error.
Before i add the print server to (9i), the pdf can be export, however no content inside the pdf, some corrupted detected, but when I added the report printing setting, the message above shown.
Is this because of the version of database? or the version or APEX? or other matter i did not aware?

  • Google pages the only pages that load in browsers

Hi, been having this problem for the past couple of days.
Was on google chrome and this message came up
    "No data received
unable to load the web page because the server sent no data
    error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE)"
wireless was connected fine, no firewalls on. connected laptop to modem (i think thats the right word haha not good with computers) with an ethernet cable and the same message still came up.
downloaded firefox on my working laptop and transferred it onto my problem laptop, installed it and the same problem -- website took about 20 minutes to load and when it did it said this
    "The connection was reset"
this happens on all websites except google based ones.
have cleared browsing history/data on google chrome, cleaned computer using CC cleaner, restarded laptop, restarted modem.
please help! i have to complete my dissertation and email it in the next couple of days so could really use working internet right now! don't know if its a virus or what.
    thanks for reading

This can be caused by corrupted cookies.
If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the <i>cookies.sqlite</i> file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
You can remove all stored data from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar) or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove everything like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions from that domain, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from that "forget" unless you have a backup of the affected files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Noise can severely limit an Intrusion detection system's effectiveness. Bad packets generated from software bugs, corrupt DNS data, and local packets that escaped can create a significantly high false-alarm rate.
