Error 1032 accessing Front panel reference on 6.1 EXE from 7.1.1f2

I am installing a Data Acquisition system developed in 7.1.1f2 (.net 2.0 patched).  The system has 4 device drivers reading data from different components (SCXI DAQ, OPC/DSTP, DLL Library, and a Labview 6.1 executable)  When I got on site, I modified the 6.1 EXE's INI file to allow TCP access to * and export * on a specified port.  The driver accessing the 6.1 EXE was reading the digital values correctly but I also needed to read XY Graphs along with the plot configurations and coloration.  I then wrote a simple debug VI that Connects to the 6.1 EXE's Win 2000 Machine the Application reference succeeded, I open a reference to the exported main vi and seem to access all the properties and methods of the VI except the Front Panel calls.  Some of the calls return invalid data (read this is the default result if an error is encountered)and when I try to get the Front panel reference I get error 1032.  I need to get this working in order to get the control references of the waveform graphs, in order to get the plot information.
Things I tried:
1 - I have tried accessing the FP reference from a different machine running LV 7.1 but still get the same error.
2 - The 6.1 EXE belongs to our client and we cannot modify it, but I have reinstalled it from the backups with no change.
I don't have any idea how to proceed..
What else can I verify on the remote VI server,  Is there another way to read the plot data from a graph?  (VI ref --> Get control value mostly works untill the fill color changes on the plots)
Any Help / guidance would be appreciated.
Darcy

Hello Darcy-
It sounds like you are running into a common problem when trying to access a front panel on a remote executabel. The following KB gve a  bit more clarification on teh nature of the problem adn a possible workaround. The workaround will require modification of the EXE you wish to control, and it sounds like that may not be an option for you.
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/B36BCCBFEBECF4F486256C69005D49C3?OpenDocument
If the Vi you wish to communicate with is not written to share its data in any way, it is going to be difficult/impossible to read the the waveform vales from that VI.

  • Question on closing Front Panel references

    I'm manipulating controls on the Front Panel of my VI.  In doing this, I open a slew of references (to the VI, to the Front Panel, to its Panes, and to the objects on the Front Panel).  Normally, before exiting the VI, I carefully close them (in LIFO order, of course), but a question has arisen:
    I want to "export" a series of references to Boolean controls for use in succeeding VIs.  No problem, while enumerating the controls (see above), I simply identify the Boolean references and build them into an array that I pass out.  First question -- does anything "go wrong" if I also do a "Close Ref" in the main loop (after adding the reference to the array, of course)?  [At present, I'm only doing a Close Ref on the non-Booleans].  Logic says this should be OK, as the Close Ref is mainly doing "garbage collection", and I've done a "copy" operation in building my array, but to a persistent structure.
    Second question -- in my "cleanup" routine, I noticed I was "double-disposing" of the references, that is, I did a Close Ref on my array of Boolean References, but also was enumerating the entire Front Panel (as I did when I opened it) and disposing of the references that it found.  Again, this should be no problem, but (in principle) I'm doing a Close Ref on two references to the Boolean control.  It occurs to me that this is not really logical either -- I should be able to simply "abandon" the array of references -- although it takes up memory that can be "reclaimed" for other uses, the fact that it is an array of RefNums is a "so what" -- the contents of the array could have been a numeric or other "solid" data type.
    Does this make sense?  To summarize, what I'm trying to do is to "extract" some RefNums to Front Panel objects for later use.  In the "extraction" process, I must open (and create references to) multiple objects, including RefNums to my "objects of interest".  What I think I can (and should) do, once I've copied the RefNums I need, is to dispose (Close Ref) all of the RefNums that I opened during the extraction routine, and do something equivalent when I do the subsequent "cleanup" (which undoes any modifications I made as part of the extraction).
    Comments welcome.

    I usually store the ref. at the beginning of my program, in Functional Globals, and i close them when the program does not need them any more.
    I think this is the right approach. And it is simple

  • How statechart can access front panel dynamic input

    How can I get the value of a control (as set by the user) on a calling VI Front Panel to evaulate/use within a state Exit while loop in of a called StateChart?

    I started with the async statechart example -- contains trigger loop and a statechart loop.  Inside the statechart loop there is a Run Statechart.  Also in this loop are my inputs to the Statechart. Everything is good so far. As each state is entered, the correct input is obtained.  Then I added a PID.vi inside a loop to one of the state action tabs.  When that particular state is entered and the PID loop runs, I no longer get updated input values.  I've tried to copy and reference the Inputs onto the action tab diagram to no avail.
    I've attached my VI and lvsc for some hopeful assistance.

  • Accessing front panel LEDs in several subVIs

    Hi, I'm new to LabVIEW! Ok, what I'm trying to do is create a front panel with 9 LEDs. Then I have a Menu Ring, with three different options. These options determine the order in which the LEDs are lit. So what I was planning on doing was creating three subVIs, one for each of the options...but how can I do that when I only have one boolean for each LED? So basically how can I relate the LEDs on the front panel into the subVIs? I tried using globals - but it seemed like that just passed on the state of the boolean instead of allowing me to actually change the boolean in the subVI. I hope this makes sense...I'm really confused! Thanks for any help!

    Initially, you might just hook your ring to a case structure to
    determine which frame exe
    cutes. You can put the terminals for the
    Booleans in the different diagrams and about the only other thing to
    keep in mind is that you probably want a delay in the loop.

  • How can I make sure the text size on front panel will be adjusted by itself from PC to PC?

    In my VIs under VI Properties -- Window Size, I checked the two boxes:
     --Maintain proportions of window for different monitor resolutions
    --Scale all objects on front panel as the window resizes
    It seems that it worked for everything on front panel except the pure text wording that I put there for instruction purpose.  The size of those text stuff didn't get changed proportionally after my application was built and run on different machines so some of them got cut off and looked messy.
    Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Thanks very much!

    Hi Andrew,
    Thank you for looking at my problem!
    Both my development system and test system are Window XP. The font size are all set to Normal. What other details do you need to know?
    The text on front panel shows well on my development machine. But when the .exe runs on my test machine, the text size was not adjusted by itself so the text body got cut off.
    I found a way to "fix" this problem: I had to drag the text box down and right so there is enough magin between the text body and the box on the right and at the bottom. I had to try it a few times until it finally shows well on my test machine. However, with those magins, it doesn't look nice on my development machine anymore. Also, I only tried on one test machine, if it looks good on one test machine, will it look good on all the other machines? Eventually my app is going to run on Window 7. I'll have to test that out and find out if it's still going to be a problem. Anyway, I don't feel this is the right way to do it. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about and have a soluction to it.
    Thanks very much!

  • GotoAndStop error 1120:Access of undefined property on MC's loaded from .swc

    I am trying to tell a MovieClip added from a .swc library to do simple things like "gotoAndStop()" and all I get is a red X error message 1120: Access of undefined property whenever I do.
    I can add the MovieClip to the application and position it without any problem. I cannot make it do anything. In my Flash IDE library the CustomCheckBox()'s base class is
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import mx.flash.UIMovieClip;
         //  **** TRIED EACH IMPORT STATEMENT AND BOTH**** (NEITHER of which work at all).
    private var _checkPlaylist:MovieClip = new CustomCheckBox();
    private var _checkClassroom:MovieClip = new CustomCheckBox();
    _checkPlaylist.gotoAndStop(1);
    _checkClassroom.gotoAndStop(2);
    I can declare my CustomCheckBox as a MovieClip and in my Symbol Properties panel it's base class is — mx.flash.UIMovieClip — and it shows up just fine. I just can't make the thing stop or do anything else a MovieClip is supposed to be able to do.
    One of the other developers here who is way more advanced than I am also cannot get a ******* movie clip to stop either.
    I am new to Flash Builder — yet have been using Flash and AS3 for years and I have never had a more difficult time getting up to speed with a new technology than Flex / Flash Builder has become for me. I feel stupid that I keep spending days on end just trying to figure out basic things like this.

    I keep answering my own questions. When I added a gotoAndStop command to the referenced MC inside of the init function it stopped throwing that error at me. I was trying to initialize the button states after declaring them as MC variables, but the compiler did not like that.

  • Modifying a front panel decorative box

    Hi
    I have an application whose front panel has several decorative boxes
    (smooth and lowered style) used for aesthetic purposes. When my
    application starts I would like to adapt my front panel display to
    match varying screen dimensions. How would I go about dynamically
    changing these objects? Do the boxes have any properties that are
    modifiable?
    Thanks
    John

    You can access references to the decorations via a front panel reference. Wire the front panel reference to a property node and select the controls property, it will give you references to all the decorations. You now need to know the indexes of the references you want, get those indexes and you can read and write the size property of the decoration(s). I have attached a simple example that resizes two decorations when the front panel is rescaled, just run it and resize the window...the properties will rescale accordingly.
    In the example the rescaling is curde; it just finds how large a percentage the window has changed and change the size of the decorations approx. the same. In real life you may want to put in logic that controls the size in a more refine
    d way.

  • How do I input data to a table on the front panel and stop the program immediately as button is pressed?

    What should I do if I want to display on the front panel in real time the values from Polarizer #, P1, P2 and the last calculated value (P2/P1 * 100) called T% in a table or some graphical representation like that?  What would I have to do?  It could just be Polarizer # and T% if that would be simpler.  I just want to let the user know the values in a list, spreadsheet or table as they go.  One last thing is that I would like to be able to stop the program at any point in time as soon as the stop button is pressed.  As of now, when the button is pressed it goes through the iteration currently in progress and then one afterwards.  I want the program to end as soon as the stop button is pressed no matter what sequence it is.  What can I do to achieve this?  Could you give me an example or modify my program to show me this.

    Put a single frame sequence structure around your stop button and then wire from the error cluster going into the error handler to the edge of the sequence structure. Now your code will stop at the end of the current iteration. To see why this works, watch you code execute with execution highlighting turned on and review the section of the manual talking about "Dataflow".

  • Dr. Damien's Development - The Xylophone Project X - Font Issues and Front Panel Layout

    The Show Raw Data button was made active in this installment. Doing this in a robust fashion was more involved than one might think, due to font and platform issues (remember I want to port this to a Windows Mobile device eventually). The following changes were made.
    The A frequency indicator was made active. This was an oversight from the last update.
    A front panel object, XylophoneFP.lvclass, was created to hold the front panel references and methods.
    The front panel object was used to implement the Show Raw Data button.
    The front panel object was used to compensate for font issues.
    When testing this application on Windows Vista, I noticed that the font differences between Vista and XP were annoying enough that I wanted to fix them. This will also lay the groundwork for any layout issues when porting to Windows Mobile. Usually, I create a cluster containing all my front panel references, but this time I put them into an object. Besides the usual object boilerplate, there are two methods, one to rearrange the front panel and one to show/hide the data graphs.
    Once the controls and indicators are properly arranged, showing and hiding the data graphs is simple. VI server methods are used to find the edges of the outer controls, some whitespace is added, then the front panel size is reset. Arranging the controls in the first place is much more complex. Dialog controls are used, and these controls change size based on the default font size. Font sizes can change due to user preference or when using the application in a different operating system than it was developed in. Button sizes can also change due to localization.
    This problem is difficult to solve cleanly, and the VI which does this, XylFP.lvlib:XylophoneFP.lvclass:ArrangeControls.vi, shows the problem. It relies on the actual sizes of the controls/indicators to rearrange the front panel in a hopefully pleasing fashion. Even though this is a relatively simple UI, the VI is fairly complex. It uses VI server calls to determine the current sizes of controls and then rearrange them. If you choose to do something similar, consider the following hints:
    The Bounds property of all controls is not writable. To change the size of controls, you need to find the property or properties which change the size. There may be more than one (which is why Bounds is not writable). For example, to change the size of a boolean, use the Button Size property.
    In many cases, the property you use to change the size of the control will not be the same value as the Bounds property. Using the boolean again, the Bounds of a 3D LED include the 3D effect around the LED, but the Button Size only includes the LED itself. Comparing the Bounds property to the result of a query to the property you will be setting will give you the necessary offset to convert between the two.
    Make sure you label your wires if you attempt to do things like this. Long wires are very common in this type of programming. It is difficult enough to keep track of things without the added aggravation of having the trace wires back to their source to identify them.
    A few judiciously placed type converters can eliminate many type conversion dots. This is not usually a real problem in this context, but you should get into the habit of efficient programming.

    It is simpler but you give up any multi CPU performance.  That LV is inherently parallel is one (the only) real advantage over a text based development system.  I can write good structured text that is almost as visually easy to parse as LV.  With modern syntax coloring engines, the difference in icons vs. structured text is not that great.
    But the challenge I give the traditional text coders is to keep track of many mulitple threads.  This is why dataflow is a powerful concept.  Yes it does lead to asynchronous execution but if you impose synchronicity on your code you are working against LV.  I get most first time programs where everything is in a sequence structure.  "Just to be safe".
    Of course this is much better but  my first design goal is that any application should take advantage of a much hardware as possible, degrade gracefully on slower hardware and play nice with other running applications.  This simpler structure severely handicaps that first goal.
    In this case it is simple enough to "get away" with it since as you point out that there should not be anything that takes significant CPU time.   But that may not be true on the PDA?
    If you are going to run it on the PDA will we be discussing techniques to seamlessly use both NIDAQmx Base and NIDAQmx in the same system?  That is a real challenge.  I look forward to more of this!
    Cheers!

  • Remote front panel

    Hi, I'm new to labview. Now i have a program which is running in server mode. The application also build for the remote front panel. So my question is whether the client use the remote front panel to download the require file from the server to client computer under different 2 networks ? Thank you.

    My main vi is just displaying data in graph where data are from MODBUS module which using LAN port. The main vi will gain all the data and generate a file (such as Excel file) after clicked a button. This file is generated at the server computer. With this function, i also published the front panel into web which is remote front panel. So now i want to generate the excel file by using another computer (client computer) access through the remote front panel to generate the file and the file is save to the client computer. The two different networks i mean was the server computer and the client computer is not connected under same network. So i want ask that whether remote front panel can do this function or not? If yes, then how to do it? Sorry that let you confuse

  • Access via NULL reference object not possible

    Hi friends,
      I have created an wda application which uses the table popin to display data.
      So that i have created a view with two of the  fields as link to action UI element.
      In the Events/Actions of the link to action element i implemented the following logic.
      data wd_table_cell_editor type ref to cl_Wd_view_element.
      data wd_table_column      type ref to cl_wd_table_column.
      data wd_popin             type ref to cl_wd_table_popin.
      data id type string.
    <b> wd_table_cell_editor ?= wd_this->m_view->get_element( id ).</b>
      wd_table_column ?= wd_table_cell_editor->get__parent( ).
      wd_popin = wd_table_column->get_popin( ).
      context_element->set_attribute( name = 'SELECTED_POPIN' value =
    wd_popin->id ).
    So when i click on the link to action in the table column of the field am getting the following error
    <b>Access via NULL reference object not possible.</b>
    While debugging i have noticed that this error was coming at the below step of the code.
    <b>wd_table_cell_editor ?= wd_this->m_view->get_element( id )</b>
    in the m_view->get_element( id ) does not contan any value , its showing as table , as null value cannnot be assigned may be its throwing the above error.
    But i didnt understand why the view is not getting UI element id ....
    Can one please suggest me where might be the wrong....

    Hi nithya,
      Could you please calrify the doubts for the following q's.
    1. As u said in the above post, i have changed the code to the below.
         data: lr_table type ref to cl_wd_table,
    lr_table_col type ref to cl_wd_table_column.
    lr_table ?= wd_this->m_view->get_element( 'TABLE' ).
    lr_table_col = lr_table->get_column( ID = 'TABLE_CONNECTID' ).
      <b>wd_popin = lr_table_col->get_popin( ).</b>
    (At the above step which is in bold , eventhough there is value in lr_table_col->get_popin , its not assigning a value to the wd_popin, throwing same error NULL etc.,)
      context_element->set_attribute( name = 'SELECTED_POPIN' value =
    wd_popin->id ).
    2. Before changing the code suggested by u, the follwoing was the code from standard example.Its working fine in the application wdr_test_table.I have debugged the code.The value is getting assigned into wd_table_cell_editor.
    The same thing i have done but its failing to assign the value. thats y its throwing null reference error. Here i have a confusion how its assigning a value and y not in the z application.am giving the code below which is in standard and my application.Please clarify these.
    data wd_table_cell_editor type ref to cl_Wd_view_element.
      data wd_table_column      type ref to cl_wd_table_column.
      data wd_popin             type ref to cl_wd_table_popin.
      <b>wd_table_cell_editor ?= wd_this->m_view->get_element( id ).</b>
    ( Note :  wd_this->m_view->get_element contains value but not assigning it to the wd_table_cell_editor and same code in the standard behaving correctly like assigning the view value to the cell editor. Y this behavior, please advice me)
      wd_table_column ?= wd_table_cell_editor->get__parent( ).
      wd_popin = wd_table_column->get_popin( ).
      context_element->set_attribute( name = 'SELECTED_POPIN' value = wd_popin->id )

  • Error Message - Reference number of a document from Back Error

    Hi,
    I created proforma invoice but it is not transferred to GTS. I tried to transfer manually, status shows it is released but there is an error at the top saying 'Reference number of a document from Back Error'. When I checked it in GTS, there is no custom document for proforma invoice. I checked configuration in ECC as well as GTS regarding activation of BADis, document types etc. everything looks fine. Can you please help me where to look at it and get it solved?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Manohar,
    Are you trying to create an Export Declaration?  If so, is this the first time, or has it worked ok previously but failed this time?
    In case it's the first time, have you made sure that:
    The Billing Type is set for transfer to GTS?
    The Billing Type is mapped in GTS?
    The Item Category is mapped in GTS?
    The proforma is actually an export (Shipping Point and Ship-to address not both in the EU)?
    Do you see any related entries in Transaction SM58?
    Do you see any related log entries in the GTS transfer log?

  • Can I Run a labview application in a hidden window (i.e. I don't want the front panel to pop up in this Labview created EXE)?

    I have a executable labview 6.1 program with a front panel. The front panel pops up every time I run it. Can I force the program to run without popping up its front panel.
    Thanks in Advance

    If you're using MS Window, you can use lvwutil32.zip to hide the front panel. lvwutil32.zip can be downloaded from NI site.
    Or you can move your front offscreen, so that user can't see it. And save your vi. When you run your vi again, it'll popup at the offscreen position. NI uses this trick to hide windows from LabVIEW users. You can also set front panel size to 0.

    Hi all,
    do you know, can i build with LV Builder dll that will run with Front Panel open when i call it from some another VI?
    I tried build it, but not succesfully.
    The prolem was that if i select in VI properties "Show FP when loaded", dll runs with FP open, but property "Show FP when called" doesn't give same results. Dll runs, but in background.
