Error 1606 when installing NI 6.0 when Visual Studio 6.0 w/SP5 is installed on Win2k or XP

Error does not occur if Visual Studio is NOT installed. Doesn't matter if MSOffice XP is on the machine or not. Happens on Win2k and XP.

jcd,
Error 1606 usually indicates that either a necessary key is missing from the registry or that something in the registry points to a file or directory that does not exist.
Make sure that the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\6.0\Setup registry key contains a value named VsCommonDir that contains the path to the Common directory under your Visual Studio install directory.

  • Known Issue: Windows Emulators Are Not Supported When Visual Studio Installed in a Virtual Machine (Windows 10 Insider Preview SDK and tools, April 2015 release)

If you install Visual Studio 2015 with the Windows 10 Mobile emulators in a virtual machine, setup will succeed but the emulators will not be available as valid debug targets.

The Windows Emulators require a physical machine that runs Windows 8.1 (x64) Professional edition or higher, and a processor that supports Client Hyper-V and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). The emulators will not run when Visual Studio is installed
    in a Virtual Machine (VM).
The emulators for Universal Windows app development work best with Windows 10.

  • Error 1606 when installing JRE 1.6u10 (win32)

    Hello,
I have an error "Error 1606 cannot access network location 0." when I try to deploy JRE 1.6u10 on Windows 2000 and Windows XP using a silent installation. I use:
    msiexec.exe /i \\server\share\java.msi /qb! ALLUSERS=1 REBOOT=Suppress
That was working fine for previous versions (of course \\server\share\java.msi is reachable), I picked "java.msi" and "Data1.cab" from a manual installation (if I try to install manually it works).
    Any idea?
    Regards,

We also saw this in 1.6.0.11.
Open the MSI with ORCA and navigate to the InstallExecuteSequence table.
For whatever reason, the smart guys at Sun limit there actions to only run with the /QN switch.
For each of the following entries in the InstallExecuteSequence change UILEVEL=2 in the condition to UILEVEL<5
    SetExists
    - Installed And (DATABASE<>OriginalDatabase) And UILevel<5
    SETMOZ
    - (MOZILLAPLUGIN="0" And REMOVE) Or UILevel<5
    SETNET
    - (NETSCAPEPLUGIN="0" And REMOVE) Or UILevel<5
    PostInstallComplete
    - UILEVEL<5

  • Error 1606 when installing i-tunes and i-pod updater

Have searched for answers to this problem with no luck so apologies if this is a repeat. I have tried down loading latest version of I Tunes and I pod updater. Neither would install and came up with the following error - error 1606.could not access network location %userprofile%\begin menu\program\startup".
I followed the instructions on the link to the Installer Web site for this Error and edited the registry (states that all entries (as listed) should refer to the correct drive i.e C: but did not show any examples.
All but one registry key was correct. I ammended a string of keys that all had %userprofile%\ as the start.
This allowed me to install ITunes however it would not add the several thousand songs that were alreday on the computer no matter what i did. So I changed the registry back and hey presto there was 4.9 with all my songs.
However I still can not intstal ipod updater either from the disc that came with shuffle or from the download.
Can any one please help??? Either tell me what to cahnge the registry keys to or explian how this has happened anyway.
I have purchased 5 pods of one type or another for various people on three different computers. Updated all software regularly and never had this problem.
    Thanks
    Paul

Yes ...followed the link and all instructions on it but not very confident about editing registy keys. Have also checked Microsoft but all that gave was more info on Registry editing.
I have managed to by pass this problem by logging in as another user and installing software. Worked without problem but I have compared the registry entries and all seem the same!
    Very Strange.

  • Error 1606, when attempting to install Robo Help

I'm posting on behalf of our client here.
Client have been trying to install Robo Help 8 on a number of workstations, none of these attempts were successful, they were installing over a network at first, then they tried installing from DVD media directly on each machine. This error message appears at all times "Error 1606. Could not access network location Documents/Adobe/Adobe RoboHelp 8."
I've searched on Adobe forums for a possible solution, none were about RoboHelp, however the error 1606 do appear in other circumstances but no solution were given on the forums - to my knowledge.
I've attached a screenshot of the error that may shed further light on the issue.

    Hi there
    Two things.
If you post in the future, please avoid using the Attach function. Instead, insert the images directly in the post using the camera icon. This is mentioned in the Before you post link.
Because the error message seems to be referencing a network location, I'm wondering if perhaps your company uses the Roving Desktops featue of Windows. With this feature you are able to log into any workstation on the network and your customized desktop follows you around because it is actually stored on the network and not the local PC.
If this is the case, I'm wondering if you might talk your IT folks into temporarily configuring the login for local desktop. Then try the install again. After installing try switching back to Roving Desktop.
    Hopefully something here helps... Rick

    Archana K.

    Hello archana,
From your description, this exception seems to be related with the C++, if so, i suggest you could post this issue to the C++ forum and i notice that this issue is caused by the upgradation of Visual Studio, you could aslo ask it on the Visual
Studio forum to confirm if the VS2013 has some changes compared with VS2008. I move it to the where the forum for, there are forum experts would help redirect it to a proper forum.
The current forum you posted to is for .NET class libraries.

  • Error while saving the custom list created in visual studio 2010

    Dear all,
when I am saving the list; I am getting the following error. I do not know where this could be wrong.
Any inputs will help. Now I am recreating a new list - thinking that the objects used in the earlier projects might conflict. Also few lists in the list tab - were throwing error of the same type - which is not functioning well.
    warm regards,

To my sense - when I add the classes list - the error pops up.
the classid is tied to both these lists.

  • I receive error messages after installing Illustrator and InDesign

Before today, I spent 3 days downloading the trial programs for Design & Web Premium CS6:
Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Audition, Bridge, DreamWeaver, ExtendScript Toolkit, Extension
Manager, FireWorks, Media Encoder, Muse, Prelude, Widget Browser, Flash Builder 4.7, Flash Professional and Media Encoder. (This is all through my online classes, and I do have a serial number that was sent to me, but no CDs.)
I used Adobe Application Manager to install them.
Everything downloaded and installed fine on my main computer (running Windows 7), but on my older,
slower, backup computer (running Win XP) I encountered problems.
I have DSL (the lowest speed, 1.5), Win XP (32 bit) SP2, 28.6 GB capacity hard drive.
Used space (after the downloads): 17.2 GB (61%)
    Free Space: 11.4 GB (39%)
Downloading the trial on my Win XP computer gave several errors, and I had to re-install and/or update (at first it would say 'Try,' but then after that was done, some of them would say 'Update') most of the programs several times before they finally all seemed to fully download OK. For one of the programs, it gave an error saying there was not enough hard drive space. So then I deleted a few programs from my hard drive. But all the other programs gave different errors, which would say that they installed, but that there were problems, or that they could not install, etc.
But, after downloading everything, and everything seeming to be OK, when I tried to open Photoshop CS6 (trial version), it said:
Photoshop.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.
(And it had the red circle with the white "X" inside it.)
I then tried to open Illustrator, and it said:
    "Illustrator.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d).
Click on OK to terminate the application."
I then tried to open InDesign and it gave the same error as Illustrator.
So then I ran all my anti-virus, anti-spyware and diagnostic software to see if there were any viruses or spyware or malware found. Nothing was found except some tracking cookies.
Then I uninstalled all the Adobe software, which took a while.
Then I used Adobe Application Manager to only download Photoshop. It seemed to download and install, but finally it said, “Installation completed though some optional components fail to install correctly.” This is one of the errors I had gotten previously. When I clicked to see more info about the error, it said to either find a certain file, which I could not find because it looked like some of the files it mentioned were invisible files, or it gave another option, to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86).
So I went to Microsoft’s website and downloaded that. But when I tried to install it, it said I needed to install Windows Installer 3.1 or higher. So I went to that website and downloaded that (the downloaded installation file was called WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe. So I installed that.
Then I went back and tried to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) again (that installation file is called vcredist_x86.exe). After it extracted the file, it said, “Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable Setup: (red circle with white “X” inside) “Setup has detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to install this software. The following blocking issues must be resolved before you can install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable Setup software package.” “Please resolve the following: A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine.” Then at the bottom of the error window, it said: “Please, see the Microsoft Visual Studio website for more information.” Then it only had a “Close” button.
I went to the Microsoft Visual Studio website, but I’m not sure what to do. It has an Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012 (“Now you can create rich, immersive apps for Office 2013, SharePoint 2013, and Office 365.”) with a “Download Now” button, but that does not sound to me like what I need.
I saw, on one Adobe site, a suggestion to go to the Adobe Creative Cloud website and download the software from there (which I noticed also used the Adobe Application Manager). So I did that for Photoshop, and after it installed and updated, it gave me the same error: “The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.”
As of Friday March 29, I have been working on downloading and installing the software for FOUR (4) days now without success, and it is just so frustrating because it is taking so much time and effort.

Branching this to a new discussion as it appear you are facing difficulties with the installation or running the programs you have been downloading and installing.

    Hello,
I saw a related thread from here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15130609/visual-studio-2012-side-by-side-configuration-is-incorrect
The dll in that thread is different from there but I think you can still try the solution listed there to repair your VS installation.
May I clarify some questions? Can you use Visual Studio before you get this error? Is it the first time you installed Visual Studio and when you try to open it it reports this error for you?
If you can use Visual Studio before you get this error, please try repair Visual Studio from control panel.
If you cannot use Visual Studio even when it is the first time to load, then it is a corrput installtion problem. Please remove the current installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2771441 Then download and verify the ISO:https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2013-iso-sha1-vs
And restart the installtion with a healthy ISO.
Anyway, in my mind refer to the first stackoverflow thread and repair the installtion to fix this missing dll problem is more reasonable.
    Best regards,
    Barry
