Error calling external web service over HTTPS

Hi everyone
I'm trying to call an external web service over HTTPS, and continually get the following error:
com.sap.engine.services.webservices.espbase.wsdl.exceptions.WSDLException: Peer sent alert: Alert Fatal: handshake failure
I haven't tried doing this before, so not quite sure where to start. I have a client certificate that must be used to access the remote web service, and I think the problem is associating the client cert with the web service call.
Has anyone else tried this before? Any suggestions of where to look?
I've had a brief look at Key Storage in NWA, but it's not something I'm familiar with - so not sure if it's even the right place to be looking.
Some help on this would be great!
Thanks
Stuart

Thanks Aleksandar
Here's the output from the trace. Unfortunately the SAP forums don't allow attachments, so it may be difficult to read. Please let me know if you see anything that may help.
Thanks
Stuart

This exception only occurs when hitting the web service through the bus. I have written a standalone Java application that posts to the web service and it works fine. I ran the application on the server where the ALSB is running using the same jdk (1.5.0_06 - the version that ships with 9.2.1) and the same cacerts file so I know it's not a problem with the certificate not being trusted. I have tried updating the cacerts file to the latest one distributed with JRE 1.6 and it still doesn't work.
After 8 hours of troubleshooting, I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestiosn?
Thanks.

Are you sure that your standalone application is using the same keystore (eg. cacert)? Default WebLogic configuration uses different keystore (demo).
I saw BAD_CERTIFICATE error only once and the cause was in keytool that somehow corrupted certificate during import. Deleting and importing certificate again helped me, but I doubt you have the same problem as your standalone application works.
Another idea ... Is hostname varification used? I know that the error message would look different if this was the cause, but try to add this parameter to your weblogic startup script: -Dweblogic.security.SSL.ignoreHostnameVerification=true
Last but not least, there is difference between your standalone application and ALSB runtime as WebLogic uses Certicom SSL provider. If you don't find the reason, contact Oracle support. Maybe they can help you to tweak Certicom provider in some way.

• Web Dynpro application calling external web server using HTTPS giving error

Hello,
I don't know whether this is the right question in this forum but my ABAP web-dynpro applicaiton is expected to call another HTTP application on external web server through HTTPS. Presently it is calling through plain HTTP but we want to have HTTPS.
Here are the steps that we followed based on the link from help.sap.com
1] Received the certificate files from external web server
2] Created SSL Anonymous client
3] Imported the certificate files under this client and added into the certificate list
4] Re-started ICM
5] Created RFC Destination of type HTTP to connect to external server with SSL option and basic authentication. This RFC destination was working under plain HTTP.
When tried with Test connection it gave error "ICM_HTTP_CONNECTION_FAILED".
Any idea what might be missing. Thanks in advance.
Regards
Rajeev

Used proper certificate after which the error went away

• Consuming an External Web Service using HTTPS and WS Security

Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem setting the security information in a SOAP header using a generated ABAP Client Proxy to consume an external web service that requires a User ID and Password in the Header section of the SOAP message. I need to use HTTPS. I'm on a WAS 7.01 SP08 system so from my readings, SAP is supposed to be able to add the username and password into the header section of the message. I can't seem to get SAP to add this information added to the header.
Here are the steps that I have taken to set the security values.
1) Created the client proxy from the WSDL in SE80. Basic Authentication on the Configuration tab was turned on automatically.
Note, Transport Security is set to None. I cannot change it.
2) Created an outbound set user name profile in transaction WSPROFILE with the appropriate username and password.
3) Added the profile to the default port in transaction LPCONFIG as an outbound under the WS Security section of the screen.
When I called the external Web Service, I got back the following error message:
com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.SoapSecurityException: WSEC5509E: A security token whose type is [http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-username-token-profile-1.0#UsernameToken] is required.
So, after reading through this Forum, I saw that I needed to use the SOAMANAGER. I set up a Proxy in the SOAMANAGER and manually created the Logical Port. This was the only way I could figure out how to set the Authentication Settings in the Logical Port to "User ID / Password". I then entered the User ID and Password.
However, I am still getting the same error message. I feel I am close but missing some small configuration to tell SAP to use WS Security with a Username token.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Stephen

I had this error again so I thought I would post my solution:
The issue is SAP needs to know the certificates being used by the web site being called. These certificates are automatically installed in your browser but need to be manually installed in SAP. This is what I did:
How to find/install new certificates
Make sure you run Internet Explorer as an Administrator so you can export the certificates
Go to the web site that SAP is trying to call in Internet Explorer
Double click on the lock in the address bar
View certificates
Find the certificates that are being used
Tools --> Internet Options --> Content --> Certificates
Click on the “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” tab
Find the certificate identified in step iii
Export as a CER certificate
Click on the “Intermediate Certification Authorities” tab
Find the certificate identified in step iii
Export as a CER certificate
Go to STRUST in SAP
Import the Certificates in the “Anonymous” or “Standard” SSL client
Save
RESTART the ICM via t-code SMICM <-- Critical!!!

• Calling external Web Service: PI is looking for a logical port and proxy.

Hi,
My scenario is ECC Proxy -> PI -> External Webservice (WS adapter).
the Web service adapter fails with the error message:

<SAP:Retry>M</SAP:Retry>
</SAP:Error>
When I debug the message processing, it is looking for a port in table SSRVRTCONFIG, finds it(entry created automatically when WS adapter and the corresponding receiver agreement is activated in ID.
Then the program looks for an entry in "SRT_CFG_CLI_ASGN" for a proxy and logical port combination and errors out.
to be able to call an external web service, do we need a proxy to be created? I tried to create but the proxy creation fails because the external WSDL has some unsupported tags.
Also do we need to do any other configuration in SOAMANAGER? I am assuming not because the Web service is external.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Vijay

I already checked that note and made sure that the points mentioned are met. I have a trace set up on the target system and would know if the call reaches them and then fails in authorization. Right now the call doesnt even reach the target system and also from debugging I know that the program is looking for a proxy and then fails.

• Calling ABAP Web Service at https destination

Hi!
I have created an ABAP Proxy that calls an external web service at an http destination. When trying the same for a service at an https destination I get the error message
HTTP error (return code 110, message "" when specifying the URL for the WSDL file. I tried one of Thomas Jungs blogs on HTTPS services (/people/thomas.jung3/blog/2005/05/13/calling-webservices-from-abap-via-https), but here he says that "When we begin to get differences (From http setup) is in the setup of the Logical Port". Am I missing something? Some configuration to be done?
Thanks for your input!

Do you mean trying to access the WSDL through an already defined HTTP connection? My problem arises when trying to enter the URL to the WSDL during proxy generation...

Hello,

The first thing you should do is to check that your application server can reach the service your are trying to call. I suggest to try a:

telnet <remote_service_url> <remote_service_port>

from the command line of your server.

You should get a blank screen if your server reaches the remote server and something like connecting to <remote_service_url> if you don't.

ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: javax.xml.rpc.soap.SOAPFaultException: No Deserializer found to deserialize a 'http://fujibox09/FinalTestWS-Project-context-root/FinalTestWS/:p_group_id' using encoding style 'null'. [java.lang.IllegalArgumentException]
I have amended the wsdl to look like this

Can anyone help?

Hi,
On way we can call a web service is to pass the Web Service URL to UTL_HTTP package:
Sample Web Service URL
===================
lv_url :=
'http://67.97.189.151:8888/plsqlsample/dbfunc?invoke=placeOrder'
|| '&'
|| 'param0=1'
|| '&'
|| 'param1=1'
|| '&'
|| 'param2=1';
Sample Call using UTL_HTTP
=====================
SELECT UTL_HTTP.request (lv_url)
INTO lv_result
FROM DUAL;
Thank you.
Regards,
Balu

Hi,
First create wallet. Place files to server folder and then configure your Apex instance.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21678/adm_mg_service_set.htm#sthref264
Then you should be able consume HTTPS web services
