Error downloading JDK 6 Update 17

Hello, I've downloaded the jdk-6u17-nb-6_7_1-linux-ml.sh file many times, but every single time, when I try to install the file from the console, I always get the same message: the file seems to be corrupted...
I've downloaded it using IExplorer, Firefox and the SDM. My internet connection isn't slow, but I just can't get the file in a good state. What can I do? Any suggestions? I am using Ubuntu 9.04
Thanks.

It may be that you got your file corrupted during the download, I don't know. Using synaptic (apt-get) is the standard way of installing software in Ubuntu. Of course, sometimes you need to install software that's either not in the repositories or you need a newer version than is in the repositories. I use Ubuntu since it's invention, and the only programs I needed to install "by hand" were Eclipse and Netbeans. So my suggestion is: always check if the software you need is in the repositories or has been packaged by some third party. Only then go the messy route and install things the old-fashioned way.
