  • Content Search Web Part - display template Error

    Hi,
I have an office 365 site, where in I have more than one Content Search Web Part and I have written custom display templates to be used in CSWP.
Now, the issue is, whenever the page is browsed (intermittent in this case) and the page is edited to edit the CSWP (always in this case), the javascript files corresponding to the display templates are not loaded and because of which its throwing 'Sorry,
    something went wrong' error.
    Thanks
    Senthil

    Hi Senthu,
    Any updates on this issue?
Since there are articles describe how to customize template for content search web part, I'd recommend you refer to them and check/debug your script:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sharepoint_quick_reads/archive/2013/08/01/sharepoint-2013-customize-display-template-for-content-by-search-web-part-cswp-part-1.aspx

If you suspect there is performance issue, you could test it on other browsers or machines.
If the issue persists on reference in the script, please refer to the articles and try to find one which can meet your requirement.

  • Content Search Web Part Error / Control_list.js not found

    Hello,
I am trying to use the Content Search Web Part but I receive an error:
    Display Error: The display template had an error. You can correct it by fixin the template or by changing the display template used in either the Web Part properties or Result Types;
Template '~sitecollection/_catalog/masterpage/Display Templates/Content Web Parts/Control_List.js not found or has syntax errors. (Load Template;)
I am working on a fresh installation (out of the box) Sharepoint 2013 SP1 on which I have applied the latest CU.
I have checked the folder and I only have one file 'Group_Content.js'. I searched over the web and I found out that I am missing a lot of file in that folder.
Anybody can help me solve this without re-installation of SP?
    Thank you!

Yep you are missing a lot of display templates if you only have the one.
Is this the root site collection or a new site-collection under /sites? If it's the root site collection, then I would suggest creating a new web application and site collection and seeing if the problem exists in that. If it does, then you may need to repair/rebuild
    your SharePoint installation.
If it's a sub-site-collection and the root site doesn't have that problem, try creating a new site-collection and testing in that. Also ensure that you have publishing features enabled in the site collection.

  • Control the query of Content By Search web part or a Catalog-Item Reuse web part from JavaScript

Is it possible/supported to intercept and change the query before it gets issued by a Content By Search or Catalog-Item Reuse webpart?
I am writing a multilingual site utilizing cross-site publishing mechanism, and the out-of-box (OOB) web parts would perfectly work if not for the following requirement that I've got: I need to serve location-specific content to the end user. I have several
versions of each content page for each geographical location, and I have tagged the pages accordingly with managed metadata keywords. I also can deduce the user's location from her browser's IP address and store it in a JavaScript variable. It is here
where I am getting stuck: I am trying to change on the fly the queries the web parts issue in order to attach the information about the user's geographical location, unsuccessfully so far.
I cannot rely on server-side code unless it is a cloud-hosted app code. I am about to give up and consider a custom solution alternative instead, which would be relying on Search REST API and custom client-side scripted widgets in place
of the OOB search web parts. This seems like an expensive alternative as the entire site could have been built using the OOB web parts, if not for the location requirement.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ivan.

    hi
    I would check several directions:
    - in query transformation you may add keyword filter "Value of a field on the page". Documentation doesn't clearly says what "field" means here: is it only for site columns, or also may work for UI controls on the page. In second case it would solve your
    problem (it would be possible to add hidden field on the page and set value via javascript). But chances that it works like this are not high;
    - in the query settings of the Content by search web part there is setting "Loading behavior": Choose whether this query is issued on the server while the page is loading, which is better for your main content, or from the browser after the page appears.
    I.e. if you will choose 2nd option there will be a chance to intercept the query on the client side in theory. All of this requires experimenting of course;
    - by default Content by search web part sends query to /_vti_bin/client.svc/ProcessQuery with http post from client side (you may check it in fiddler). You may try to find the exact javascript function which performs the call and override it by adding additional
conditions to the query (fortunately it is not complicated in javascript).

  • Content Search Web Part - Result Preview Says "Invalid Request"

This behavior seems to be occurring in both our test and production farms.
ULS logs indicate the following entry:
Exception occured in scope Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Query.SearchExecutor.ExecuteQueries. Exception=Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.InvalidClientQueryException: Invalid request.
    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.DataConverter.GetObject[T](XmlNode node, ProxyContext proxyContext)

at Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ServerStub.InvokeMethodWithMonitoredScope(Object target, String methodName, XmlNodeList args, ProxyContext proxyContext, Boolean& isVoid)
I have used very simple queries, to see if it's KQL error on our part, such as ContentType:"CType Name"
When we use developer dashboard I can see the XML for the search request which the CSOM is dispatching however, I believe this to be completely out of the box.
Do you have any suggestions as to why the request may be considered invalid and what diagnostics could be run to better isolate why this OOB feature is not working?
We are using Enterprise SP2013 On Prem.
    thanks

    Aries,
Here is a description of what I see.
    1) This is the out of the box (non-customized) CSWP
    2) Upon clicking the "Change Query" button on the toolpart the dialog window opens.  The Search Result Preview says "This query returned no results" but as per the JSON response above, it appears that there is "ResultTables" present in the response.
Occasionally, a preview-result does show up but this is not consistent.  The JSON response seems to be identical.
Initial response - shows "Query returned no results" however, I see results in the JSON below. I have replaced our hostname w/ intranet.contoso.com

    This is the  KQL. (above)
Next, we immediately click "Test query" without modifying the KQL. We send an XML request using the web part however, in that case, the XML variables are replaced with the $-syntax, this occurred within the web part through no effort of ours.  The behavior
    shows "Invalid Request"
Can you explain what you mean by "There is customization in the web part"?  We have used the out of the box web part.
Any subsequent query modification in the query-builder dialog-window causes the $-syntax.  When i illustrated the comparisons of the XML-request above the only difference in between the two requests is that the left-side is created by the initial-load
of the QueryBuilder dialog and the right-side is created when we click "Test query" (immediately after) in the Advanced Mode screen.
We do have a custom master page and I will try to revert back as close as possible to vanilla SharePoint and test.  But to address your earlier point, no customization to the Content By Search Web part has been used.

  • Does the Target Audiences setting work for Content Search Web Part Snippets?

I am attempting to create a page layout in SharePoint 2013 that contains a Content Search Web Part snippet.
I only want the CS Web Part to appear for certain users in a defined SP Group.
I set the Target Audience property during the generation of the snippet.
Unfortunately, the target audience property does not affect the appearance of the web part.
It appears all the time, even when the current user is not a member of the named SP group.

  • Office 365 - content search web part

    Hi,
I have an office 365 site, and in one of the page, i had added 4 Content search web parts each of it having its own custom display templates.
Now, the problem is when the page is browsed (intermittent) or edited (always), the CSWP's throwing error as 'Sorry, something went wrong'. And I found that, the corresponding .js files are not getting loaded, including the language script, because of which
    we are getting this error.
    Please assist.
    Thanks
    Senthu

    Hi Senthu,
This error occurs may be due to the display template has not been published as a major version.
Please go to the Master pages and page layouts in site settings > Display Templates > Content Web Parts > find the html file of the display templates used in your content search web part and then click the triangle and select Publish a Major Version.

  • Need Help ! Content Search Web Part with default callout menu as docoument library

I want the above functionality with the Content Search Web Part(CSWP).

    Hi,
Per my understanding, you might want to create something like a
Content Search Web Part(which is introduced in SharePoint 2013) in your SharePoint 2010 environment with the callout menu functionality.
As there is no OOTB Content Search Web Part in SharePoint 2010, a suggestion is that you can build a custom web part with the help of
Search API and create custom callout menu for it.
    Two demos about
how to work with Search API in SharePoint 2010 for your reference:
    http://nikpatel.net/2013/02/21/step-by-step-building-custom-sharepoint-2010-search-applications-using-keywordquery-api/
    http://www.dotnetmafia.com/blogs/dotnettipoftheday/archive/2010/08/12/how-to-use-the-sharepoint-2010-enterprise-search-keywordquery-class.aspx
    For about
how to create a custom callout menu, the JavaScript plugins below would be helpful:

  • Content Search Web Part Has No Results

    Hello,
I have been working on a site for a few weeks now and have been trying to make a simple Image Slider. I have found many tutorials and all are helpful -- except I get stuck at the same part every time. I am trying to use a Content Search Web Part in order
to pull images from a library/list and display them. I go through almost the same instructions every time but my query never shows any results.
I have went in to 'Change Query' and set the following:
    Select a query: Pictures (System)
Restrict By App: Specify a URL --> Then changed to mysite/myimagelibrary
I have tried a few things. I have changed the Result Source to multiple different things, including the default 'Recently Changed Items.' I have also tried to put the images in a list rather than a Picture Library. I have also tried MANY different ways of
    putting in the 'specific URL.'
I don't know why I can't seem to get results from my query. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,According to your post, my understanding is that you used a Content Search Web part to search images from a library/list , it didn’t display any
    Results.
Please check which content type you used for these images . Maybe its content type is document rather than picture. Please make sure your images’ content type is picture.
You can go in to 'Change Query' and set the following:
Select a query: Items matching a content type(System)
    Restrict by App: Current site
    Restrict by content type: Picture
As you have mentioned in your description “Specify a URL --> Then changed to mysite/myimagelibrary”.
Here is a similar issue, you can use as a reference:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/sharepoint/en-US/4a683be5-354d-4497-88da-672dd6335358/content-by-search-web-part-shows-no-results
If the issue still exists, please feel free to let me know.

  • Content Search web Part on Variations label ?

    Hello Experts,
I have set up Variations in SharePoint 2013 and its working fine. As of now I have only one Label and in Variations Settings I have selected to "Update web part changes to target web pages when Variations source page is updated".
On Source Label , I added a Content Search Web Part (CSW) to pull the items from a list that is on the top level ( root of the site collection so that query will remain same on all labels), working fine , Now i go to my target site and sync with source and
it is synced successfully. I can see the CSW was also update on the target page but it says "sorry something went wrong". when I edit CSW on the target site , search query from source is also present and it works fine in edit mode when I click on
Test query button ,  but when I save it or publish target site web part shows same error again" sorry something went wrong" .
    Is there some settings missing?
Can someone please confirm if CSW works with variations on labels ?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Resolution : Issue was resolved after creating folder in "Language files" library as mentioned in the link below.
    http://richardstk.com/2014/11/18/sharepoint-2013-content-search-web-part-one-or-more-of-the-following-resource-files-failed-to-load/
Still trying to figure out why this happens , every time I create a new label I have to go and create folder manually and paste "CustomStrings.js" file in it. any body knows ??
    Thanks.

  • Content Search Web Part with Hover Panel - Problem with positioning with css

    Hi guys!
I´m having trouble with positioning the hover panel for the Content Search Web Part.
    I used
this article to help me with luck as far as to the positioning. I´ve tried some inline styling but maybe my knowledge in css is no good enough here.
Here´s a screenshot from how this looks like. The hover panel generates a gap between the result items, the same height as the hover panel:

    Hi Victoria!
No the gap comes without any inline css added from me. I´ve tried some inline styling, like z-index and position.
    So, any ideas are welcome.

  • Advanced search web part issue

    hi,
i am implementing a  advanced search web part , and in that  property restrictions, i have added  2  doument library columns [ not the site columns ]
from my subsite in my site collection.
but when i give some search keywords and perform   search, i am not able to get the search results in terms of documents/content.
any extra settings do i need to do for performing advanced search
    1) Do i really need site columns to be created under the site collection , in order to be  searchable ?
if i create a  simple document library column and cant i get it in the crawled properties section
in the  central admin's search serv appln's  search schema section?
    pls advice

As per my understanding you can crawl DL columns
Can you get that document in search results page? Please check to see if the site which contains the library is included in content source.
Could you please check site settings->Site Administration->Searchable columns, maybe the column is excluded?
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/b97a43b1-c727-4daa-a0d9-a18e53e09dd9/list-and-document-library-title-column-crawled-properties?forum=sharepointadminprevious
Go to your Search Service Application in Central Administration.
Click on Metadata Properties in the left navigation.
Click on the Crawled Properties link.
Click on the Categories link then select the SharePoint category
Navigate the pages (next page arrow link) until you see ows_Title. Click on ows_Title.
In the "Mappings to Metadata Properties" area of this page, ensure that the "Include values for this property in the search index" checkbox is checked, then Click OK. This checkbox is not checked by default.
Repeat the same procedure above for your ows_Description crawled property to confirm that it is included in the index - which it should be by default.
        Start a Full Crawl
This will now include these crawled properties in the index and should now be available in the Managed Property which exposes them for Search.

  • Query anonymous using Content Search Web Part

I'm using the Content Serach Web Part in a template with public access, trying to query list data. It works fine when logged in, but as an anonymous user I get an error with correlation-id 000000000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000. I do have anonymous
access to the list data I query. Also I have added ViewFormPages to the AnonymousPermMask property as suggested, but with no luck.
Anyone know how to search anonymous using the Content Serach Web Part, please share! Thanks in advance.

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/09a40222-36a4-472d-a9b8-28436ff3b78d/content-by-search-web-part-not-working-properly-for-anonymous-user?forum=sharepointdevelopment
Please try to break inheritance permission for the anonymous users, and add ‘View Application Pages’ permission for them, it seems that the permission for anonymous users is moved by the lockdown feature, you can use the following PowerShell Script to change
    this:
    $web = get-spweb "http://yoursiteurl/subweb/subsubweb"
    $list = $web.Lists["ListName"]
    $list.BreakRoleInheritance($true)
    $list.AnonymousPermMask = $list.AnonymousPermMask -bor ([int][Microsoft.SharePoint.SPBasePermissions]::ViewFormPages) #binary or adding the permissions
    $list.Update()

  • Search web part

    Hello,
I'm trying to setup Search Results Web Part to display images from a certain list.
    I have 2 issues:
    1. I cannot create a managed property and use it as a search parameter (I succeeded to create a few managed property in the past but for some reason I cannot reproduce it). I've created a site column and added it to my list and started the full
crawl a few times but can't seem to see it as a managed property under the search schema.
    2. I cannot use a managed property (datetime type) as a search parameter
    The managed property 'ImgFromDate' is <label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_ctl04_ctl01_searchableCheckBox">Searchable, </label><label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_ctl06_ctl01_queryableCheckBox">Queryable, </label><label
    for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_ctl07_ctl01_retrievableCheckBox">Retrievable, </label><label for="ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_ctl11_ctl01_safeForAnonymousCheckBox">Safe and Mapped to 'ows_</label>ImgFromDate'
    This is the search query I'm using: ImgFromDateOWSDATE<{Today}
I always get this message:"We didn't understand your search terms. Make sure you're using the proper syntax"
    I'm using SharePoint 2013
I searched for an answer in all Microsoft forums and I can't seem to find my mistake.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Keren.

    Hi Aradk,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when using Serach Result Web Part, and want to know how to add a managed property in SharePoint 2013.
Firsly, for adding a managed property, you can refer to the links below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219667.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/tothesharepoint/archive/2013/03/06/from-site-column-to-managed-property-what-s-up-with-that.aspx
Secondly, about this error you met, which browser did you use? Please test it with IE 10, compare the result. Please add the following string to all web.comfig file:
    <globalization fileEncoding="utf-8" enableClientBasedCulture="false" />
Note : before changing web.config, make a backup for the files.
More information, please refer to the link below:

Here is another similar post for your reference:

    I hope this helps.
