Error Installing Oracle on Linux

Hello All,
I'm getting a tampering error while installing Oracle on a fresh linuxbox.
When I attempt to create a new DB by dbca I get the following error traced by the tool:
Oct 31, 2006 12:37:24 PM oracle.sysman.emcp.util.PlatformInterface executeCommand
CONFIG: Starting execution: /oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/emctl start dbconsole

The first strange thing is the message "CONFIG: EM Configuration issue. /oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/oracle_dboracle not found." that, I have checked, exists (and is a directory).
After this first message I get a finally ERROR message that states it's cannot able to start the dbconsole.
Where I have to point my attention?
This is a very first installation on a totally clean box.
Regards

The database has been successfully installed.
I get errors, sistematically, when I attempt to create a new db using dbca.
The error occurs during the last step of the db creation.
which follows is the dump of the relevant part of the emConfig.log where the error is enlisted:

This looks like a follow up of Re: Error after installing Oracle Enterprise Linux (Release 5) on Dell T 110
Can you give more details what you are trying to do or trying to accomplish. Where are you trying to ping to?
It could be that you have not defined your gateway or DNS server for name to IP mapping. What is the output of
    # netstat -rn
    # cat /etc/resolv.conf

If you are running runinstaller from a different m/c (I mean other than the m/c where you want to install Oracle software) do xhost+ from the m/c you are running it. Also check xclock or xterm before you even run the installer to make sure xterm is installed properly. Hope this helps.

  • Install Oracle Enterprise Linux

We have an old workstation (Dell Precision WorkStation 530 with 2.40 GHz Intel Xeon processor, 2 GB RAM, and 3 36-GB hard dirves) and I would like to use it as a test box for Oracle on Linux. I tried to install Oracle Enterprise Linux, but it stuck at the some point every time, either during installing libraries/modules or formatting disk. The place the installation stuck varies. It does give any error message, but the installation just stops there fore hours or days. I tried Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 DVD, Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 DVD, and latest image CDs downloaded form metalink. All have the same issue. That installation starts as normal, then slow down, then freeze. I tried installing Fedora Core on the box using CDs from a Linux book yesterday, but it was successful and worked fine. I am wondering where there are some hardware incompatibility or other issues associated with the box. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    George

    Hi, George.
I think you'll have to determine the motherboard and other periferals in your machine to find out which one is incompatible with OEL. The most probable culprit is the motherboard. Find out which model it is and Google, using the model and the term "Enterprise Linux" (or RHEL or Centos, they are all the same).
There may be workarounds, if it's indeed an incompatibility issue: settings in the CMOS Setup or advanced parameters for booting the installation -- usually related to the drives (HD, DVD, SATA mode etc) or to P'n'P periferals (USB, for instance).

What does it give you a screenshot step-by-step installation guide?
What if something does not match, or goes wrong?
Then you start asking for a screenshot of the solution ??
I am sorry if this offends you, but if you want to start using a complex product as an Oracle database, then screenshots are not enough.

  • Newbie wants to install Oracle on Linux

    Hello there
As a novice, I'm keen to get cracking on installing Oracle on
    Linux.
As yet I have not purchased a copy of Linux. I intend running my
setup on an IBM 560E Thinkpad with 80 Meg of RAM.
I'm interested to hear opinions on which versions of Linux
would result in the least hassle and / or most functionality etc.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi John,
I'm also quite new to linux/"free OS". The first thing you will
need to do is get a Linux distribution. I personnaly tried 3
different ways : Slackware, Red Hat and FreeBSD (which is not
linux, but is in some ways compatible with linux binaries).
The best I can say is : If you are new to linux, take Red Hat as
it is most simple and straight forward to install. Drawback : you
need 450 MB disk space for installation as Red Hat install you
everything you need (and perhaps more than that) to have a
running workstation (including a running X Window GUI and lots
of programs). And that is also the + point of Red Hat. To give
you an idea, I felt Red Hat easier to install on my Compaq
    Presario than any Windows...
On the other hand Slackware is far more flexible if you know what
you are doing... (so was FreeBSD a year ago when I tested it).
Finally, you mention that you will be installing on a laptop. I'm
not sure that the best idea since laptops are not among the
easyest to configure. Be sure to check www.linux.org (in the
material compatibility section) where the could have some good
tips to get you up and running.
I haven't installed Oracle yet so I cannot say much on this.
    Cheers
    Paul

  • How Do I Install Oracle Unbreakable Linux on My Virtual Machine

I would like to know the steps required to install Oracle Unbreakable Linux on my Virtual Machine, cos i tried to but i keep having problems when i get to selecting the destination for the installation, the prompt says i have to allow it format my hard disk wont i lose my files in the process.

When you create a virtual disk for your VMWare instance the format will only affect this disk. You can see this as it will display the size of the disk. If this is the size of the virtual disk (default = 8 GB) then go ahead. If this looks like your normal HD just stop and read the VMWare installation Guide from www.vmware.com

    I'm running Oracle Linux 6.3.
I've spent hours searching for any missing libraries and installed all the ones that are pre-requisites.
Has anyone seen these errors before installing Oracle 10.2 on Oracle Linux 6.3 64 bit?
Oracle 11.2 has installed without problem.

  • Error Installing Oracle 9i on Linux. Please help.

    Hi folks,
While installing Oracle 9i on RedHat Linux 8.0, I am unable to configure and start and listener process. The error message it throws back is that "unable to configure as the information provided is being used by another software. Unless that conflict is resolved, you will not be able to start the listener process...blah blah blah...".
Can somebody please help me understand this problem and resolve it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rajesh.

By the way I forgot to include the information about the listener configuration that I was trying to setup.
    Listener Name : LISTENER
    Protocol : TCP
    Port # : 1521.
I also tried couple of other port number, but it did not work. So to make sure that these port numbers are really not locked by other software, I connected as root and executed the following command
netstat -a | grep 1521 (and other numbers also that I tried using).
Found that these ports were really not locked by anyone else.
    Thanks.
    Rajesh.
