Error Logging in oracle 9i for failing sql statements

Hello All,
I am looking for a oracle utility which will allow me to log the oracle error message for all the queries filed on a schema. Will audit trail help me in doing this.
Actually I am working on a third party application. I am using their API's for the customization, in some places the API just return database error but not the error code. So I basically want to know what query was fired and failed.
Thanks,
Sathish

Hello Franky,
I was able to use a trigger on "AFTER servererror ON DATABASE". This gave me the following error.
ORA-08177: can't serialize access for this transaction
Thanks for your help.
Pavan - Thanks for your suggestion also.
Sathish

  • Error while Installing Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server

I downloaded "Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP" and installed the personal edition. It did not install successfully and gave this error message:
Error while Installing Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server
The specified key was not found while trying to GetValue
    - stop installation of all products.
    - stop installation of this component only.
The installation of Oracle 9i Database was unsuccessful
The Integration tools and client installed just fine from the same download. Why didn't the database install successfully? All the other components seemed to install just fine and the database appeared to be created - but I could not open it and there was not start menu option for DBA Studio.
I am running Windows 2000 professional with Service Pack 3 on a 2 GHz Pentium4 machine with 512MB Rambus RAM, 32bit color graphics ATI All-in-Wonder card, about 40GB of disk space, a local peer-to-peer network via cat5 cable to another Win2k P3 machine, and Creative Soundblaster Audigy card. Do I need to adjust any network settings? Would it help or hinder if I installed MS IIS? WinNT has a Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) but Win2k has COM+ instead; does that make a difference in terms of the installer looking for MTS? Do I need to configure COM+ in some special way / change settings?

    HI Salman,
    I am doing the following.
    1. I am installing Oracle 10.2.01 Database(Not Client) on my windows Xp laptop. While installation i Choose the custom option and Check the Oracle Windows Interface. In that i check the "Install Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction server" checkbox. The installation goes on fine till 99% and when it tries to install the
Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction server it gives an error saying that "Microsoft Transaction server" was not found on the system.
I had previously installed the same on my laptop and it was working fine. but after uninstallation when i try to re install i get this problem.
If i go to the services.msc option in windows i still see the OracleMTSRecoveryService option even when i have uninstalled oracle. But when i try to start the services i get the following error
Could Not start the OracleMTSRecoveryService on the local computer.
Error 3: The system cannot find the file specified.
Any help on how to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated

  • Help, How to view the error log of oracle Job

    Hi all,
I created a job in my database, which clears the archivelog. After the job is executed, it occurs error.Such as :

How to view the error log of oracle Job?
    Thank you.
    Eric Zhou

    Hello,
Besides some views (with the scheduler) that you can get on the link below:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/scheduse002.htm#CHDGIDFD
You may use the LOG parameter with RMAN so as to generate a logfile on the server.
Also from EM DBConsole (starting with 10g) you may have the RMAN Backup Report.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,

  • Identifying most recently failed SQL statement

    Hi,
    We are using Forms 6i
Is there anyway to identify what the most recently failed SQL statement was?
We occasionally have Unhandled Exceptions for which we would like to identify the cause of.
To help do this quickly is there anyway to get Forms to report the SQL statement that failed.
I am sure I saw a demo many years ago where someone simply used Forms to report on the failure rather than writing custom exception code to identify the problem(May have had something to do with the Help button)
    Thanks in advance.
    Nav

Thank you for your prompt reply.
    I am encountering a "FRM-40735 Unhandled Exception"
When I press Shft+Ctrl+E(Display Error) I simply get a FRM-42100( No errors encountered recently)
This seems to contradict the FRM-40735 error.
Currently my fmrweb.res does not map anything to the Shift+F1 key.
What kind of function do I need to map it to?

  • How can I open a cursor for dynamic sql statement

Ok, this is an easy one to diagnose.
You are not using bind variables. This is terrible. Flushing the shared pool is a bad
solution -- you are literally killing the performance on your box by not using them.
If I was to write a book on how to build “non scalable applications in Oracle”, this
would be the first and last chapter. This is a major cause of performance issues and a
major inhibitor of scalability in Oracle. The way the Oracle shared pool (a very
important shared memory data structure) operates is predicated on developers using bind
variables. If you want to make Oracle run slowly, even grind to a total halt – just
    refuse to use them.

But, please feel free to go ahead with this successful implementation.
I just hope anyone else who reads this doesn't make the same mistake.

  • Escaping "curly apostrophe" for a sql statement

    Hi,
I'm trying to escape the curly apostrophe for a sql statement, i.e.,
    Bob’s . I tried using the following
    string str = inputStr.Replace("'","''");
    Of course, this doesn't work.
    Thanks!

Replace has 2 overloads.  One uses 2 strings while the other uses 2 char parameters.  Run this code on text pasted from each application.
    static string ReplaceString()
    string input =
    "O'Hara";
    foreach ( Char c
    in input )
    Console.WriteLine(c.ToString() +
    " = " + Convert.ToInt32(c).ToString());
    return input.Replace("'",
    String.Empty);
Compare the values returned for the character.  Then use the char value from Word and replace it with the char value from Notepad in the other overload that takes 2 char parameters.
Are you using a TextBox or a RichTextBox?

    Hi,
in 10g R2, how to see the number of reloads for the SQL statements ? Any query ? Which value is high ? Which valu is low ?
    Thanks.

    thanks all.
It was a test question for 1Z0-042 exam as follows :
The users on your SALESDB are complaining of slow response to their queries. Using the SQL Tuning Advisor, you determine
that the SQL statements are using the best optimization plan. Querying the dynamic views, you see that the number of reloads
for the SQL statements is high, which can cause performance degradation.
Which component of the SGA should you resize to reduce the number of reloads of the SQL statements?
    Answer :
shared poolThen I wonder how to see the number of reloads for the SQL ?

  • Tracing error log in Application Server for report service

    Hi guys,
My company use Oracle Application Server with the Form version 10.1.2.0.2.
Recently we experienced an error whereby the report services go down so frequent within a day.
I checked into the alert log file of the Database and found out ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kgassg_2], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
Checked in Metalink, this might happen in 32 bit OS. So the suggestion is to check on the database memory parameters and extend the memory parameters affected to it.
Since this report service problem happen quite often, I might think that there should be something happening with the Application server as well.
    Lastly, my questions are:
    1. How can i investigate this error in Application Server side?
    2. Is there any error log file in Application Server which is like alert log file in the database?
    Thank you

    Hi,
I would like to know Do you want to create a error file in Application server?
If yes, then it is quite easy. Just declare one internal table IT_LOG & store all the error records in this table.
Then loop over the internal table IT_LOG & using open data set concept transfer all the records.
    Sample Code:
    INITIALIZATION.
    CONCATENATE '/INTERFACE/' SY-SYSID '/MM' into GV_DIR.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    CONCATENATE GV_DIR '/' P_FILE INTO GV_FILE.
OPEN DATASET GV_FILE FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE.
    LOOP AT IT_LOG.
    CLEAR LV_STRING.
    CONCATENATE IT_LOG-F1 IT_LOG-F2 INTO LV_STRING SEPERATED BY ','.
    TRANSFER LV_STRING TO GV_FILE.
    ENDLOOP.
    CLOSE DATASET GV_FILE.
Note: Here F1 & F2 are respective fields.

  • Stored Procedures for Simple SQL statements

    Hi Guys,
We are using Oracle 10g database and Web logic for frontend.
The Product is previously developed in DotNet and SQL Server and now its going to develop into Java (Web Logic) and Oracle 10g database.
Since the project is developed in SQL Server, there are lot many procedures written for simple sql queries. Now I would like to gather your suggestions / pointers on using procedures for simple select statements or Inserts from Java.
I have gathered some list for using PL/SQL procedure for simple select queries like
    Cons
If we use procedures for select statements there are lot many Ref Cursors opened for Simple select statements (Open cursors at huge rate)
Simple select statements are much faster than executing them from Procedure
    Pros
Code changes for modifying select query in PL/SQL much easier than in Java
Your help in this regard is more valuable. Please post your points / thoughts here.

On the client side, you have an interface that deals with this SQL cursor. It can be a Java class, a Delphi dataset, or a PL/SQL refcursor.
Yes, cursors are created/opened at a huge rate by the SQL engine. But is is capable of doing that. What you need to do to facilitate that is send it SQLs that uses bind variables. This enables the SQL engine to simply re-use the existing cursor for that SQL.
Simple select statements are much faster than executing them from ProcedureAlso not really correct. SQL performance is SQL performance. It has nothing to do with how you create the SQL on the client side and what client interface you use. The SQL engine does not care whether you use a PL/SQL ref cursor or a Java class as your client interface. That does not change the SQL engine's performance.
Yes, this can change the performance on the client side. But that is entirely in the hands of the developer and how the developer selected to use the available client interfaces to interface with the SQL cursor in the SQL engine.
    Pros
Code changes for modifying select query in PL/SQL much easier than in JavaThis is not a pro merely for ref cursors, but using PL/SQL as the abstraction layer for the data model implemented, and having it provide a "business function" interface to clients, instead of having the clients dealing with the complexities of the data model and SQL.
I would seriously consider ref cursors in your environment. With PL/SQL servicing as the interface, there is a single place to tune SQL, and a single place to update SQL. It allows one to make data model changes without changing or even recompiling the client. It allows one to add new business logical and processing rules, again without having to touch the client.
