Error on gem update sqlite3-ruby

Hi,
I followed the instructions on upgrading rails to 2.0.2 per http://developer.apple.com/tools/developonrailsleopard.html
everything went fine until I tried to update sqlite3-ruby at which point I received an error installing sqlite3-ruby:
ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.
/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb update sqlite3-ruby
can't find header files for ruby.
This update was applied following the Security Update 2008-002. Rails 1.2.6 was and is running on mongrel server on dedicated site. The gem list shows rails updated to 2.0.2 and sqlite3-ruby at 1.2.1.
Same result after restarting server 10.5.2.
What actions do I take now or what am I missing? Does mongrel have to come offline? Your assistance appreciated.
Harry

Silly me. I see a folder in the dock with an xcode icon on startup, so I thought xcode was installed. Folder changes to utilities I think after the server is up and running. Anyway, Xcode Tools has to be installed for the upgrade to sqlite3-ruby to work. The headers are located with Xcode Tools.
I found the answer at http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/ruby/wiki/Troubleshooting.
Following the installation of Xcode Tools to /Developer I was able to
sudo gem update sqlite3-ruby
and all went according to plan.
BTW - I noticed there are a ton of items in the Xcode Tools install.
Once again, a little systems viewpoint would help in keeping the pieces tightly wrapped.
Hope this helps someone else,
Harry

  • Ruby on Rails FUBAR after gem update? Aptana and NetBeans no work now!!

    After doing an gem update --system it seems that the whole out-of-box Ruby and Ruby on Rails experience in Leopard goes way south.
    I first had issues just trying to run the rails command:
    <pre>
    Adenthir:Workspace nicholas$ rails dummy
    /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems.rb:304:in `reportactivateerror': Could not find RubyGem rails (> 0) (Gem::LoadError)
    from /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems.rb:238:in `activate'
    from /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems.rb:76:in `activegem_withoptions'
    from /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems.rb:50:in `gem'
    from /usr/bin/rails:15
    </pre>
    I found that the directory path(s) of the gem repositories which were:
    <pre>
    \["/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8" , "/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8"]
    </pre>
    had become simply:
    <pre>
    \["/Library/Ruby/Gems"]
    </pre>
    So I added GEM_HOME and GEM_PATH to my .profile, and this works for when I'm in the shell.
    However when I run Aptana or Netbeans it complains about the environment and not being able to find the rails 1.2.3 gem. It seems that not all was yet fixed by adding the paths to my .profile to help clear up the confusion about the missing gem repositories.
    How do you get it so that applications that are not run from the shell eg. Aptana or NetBeans can see the same path as I'm getting in the shell? (My assumption is that the reason they error is because they don't use the .profile shell settings.) I'm not quite sure how to set environment variables for the Mac OS itself (other than the shell sessions). And I am not going to take "just run your apps using shell commands to start them" as an answer!
    All my rails/ruby stuff was working flawlessly in 10.4 ...sigh.
    Help!

    Okay - I think I have the path situation sorted out. In order to get applications like NetBeans or Aptana to recognize the gem repositories after doing a gem update --system command you need to create a file ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist (it isn't there by default so you'll need to make one).
    I used the plist editor tool that comes with XCode's installation, but I imagine any text editor will be sufficient. You will want to add the following to restore your paths for RubyGem:
    <pre>
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>GEM_HOME</key>
    <string>/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8</string>
    <key>GEM_PATH</key>
    <string>/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gem s/1.8</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    </pre>
    That seems to of fixed the confusion that NetBeans was having for me as to where to find the gem for rails. Everything (so far) seem to be back to normal.
    Just a word of caution - if you're going to do a gem update be ready for some downtime as you fix your environment paths.

    1: #include "ruby.h"
    2:

    /* end */
    My first thoughts were that I needed to specify where to find sqlite3.h so I tried this:
    gem install sqlite3 -- --with-sqlite3-include=/usr/include
    Same error. Also, specifying --with-sqlite3-dir to give gem a general idea of where to find the files doesn't help. I've confirmed that /usr/include/sqlite3.h exists, as well as the proper lib, and I'm running out of ideas.
    At the very least I'd like to see someone else with a working configuration. Maybe we can compare version numbers, but even that's a real stretch.

  • Update of ruby nwrfc library to 0.0.1

    I have update the gem and git repo for the new version of the nwrfc gem, which I announced recently.
    Two terrible bugs fixed are:
    Path to the nwrfc so/dll is fixed (pointed to my home directory!)
    Iconv conversion UTF-8 <-> UTF-16LE fixed for Windows
    There is a little better type support and some re-factoring of the code included.
    The tests pass for me on the following Ruby platforms:
    ruby 1.8.7 (2011-06-30 patchlevel 352) [i686-linux]
    ruby 1.8.7 (2011-12-28 patchlevel 357) [i386-mingw32]
    To update the gem, just issue (sudo) gem update nwrfc on your system.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 errors when downloading updates

    Currently using SCCM 2012 SP1 with CU2 and I am having some update download issue with Automatic Deployment Rules.
    The Environment is:
      Server 2008 R2
      SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2 (Upgraded from SCCM 2012 CU2)
    I created an Automatic Deployment Rule for Adobe Flash. Since I was having the same issue with Adobe Reader, when I published via SCUP to WSUS I chose not to sign the updates.
    After publishing to WSUS I then sync SCCM, I see the updates and then in the ADR I had it download the updates and I see this error:
    Authentication of file C:\Windows\TEMP\CABDEC5.tmp failed, error 0x800b0004 Software Updates Patch Downloader 8/15/2013 6:49:43 PM 3712 (0x0E80)
    ERROR: DownloadContentFiles() failed with hr=0x80073633 Software Updates Patch Downloader 8/15/2013 6:49:43 PM 6876 (0x1ADC)

    Now the funny thing is if I go to the update itself within update group that Flash is a member I can right click it and choose download and the error doesn't occur.
    I observed that the UNC path for ADR Adobe flash, when the rule is ran, is populated with folders that have a name something like 44738297895427890.1 or 423154325378u867234789.1. I have come to realize that those are failed downloads. So for the
    heck of it I then right clicked the update itself and chose download and it downloaded without issue. Now I'm guessing that when I chose to download directly from the update maybe the system is getting the update from adobe and not from wherever the rule was
    trying to get it from.  I then see the .1 removed from the directory name and there are updates within them.
    Just for clarity here are the steps I go through from SCUP to Syncing...
    Log in to WSUS server
    Run SCUP as administrator
    Get notified there are updates from Adobe and let SCUP download updates
    Find the updates the specify the following publishing options
    Full Content
    Sign all software updates with a new publishing certificate .... (Is this necessary by the way?)
    Then click Next
    After that's done I then go to SCCM Manager Console and go to Software Updates and right click to Synchronize them.
    After that's done then I run the ADR for Adobe Flash and when it goes to download the updates that's when the error occurs.
    What am I missing?
    Also, while I wait for help I just recently added the WSUS SCUP certificate to the SCCM server to see if by chance that fixes stuff. If it does then I'll post the results of adding the certificate to the SCCM server.
    One other thing, is there a way to delete updates? When I was having this issue in the past, I went in to SCUP I marked the updates as expired and then deleted the updates. Went to SCCM and synchronized the updates and they went from not expired to expired
    then I waited, maybe 30 days or so before I could add the updates back in.
    Thanks for the help!

  • There was a problem updating InDesign CC For more information see the specific error below.  Update Failed Download error.  Press Retry to try again or contact customer support.(49)

    Posted the entire text from the error window, when trying to update, using the normal NON-TECHIE way to update any and all Adobe CC products, via the Creative Cloud updater installed when Adobe Creative Cloud subscription was purchased when first offered.
    The following occurs, ad nauseam:
    There was a problem updating InDesign CC
    For more information see the specific error below.
    Update Failed
    Download error.  Press Retry to try again or contact customer support.(49)
    Here's the crux of my frustration:
    (1) Customer Service is NOT contact-able, to receive LIVE help.
    (2) There is NO way for me to mitigate this "Download error", being a student learning InDesign, and NOT in any way capable of tweaking folders/files here and there.
    Therefore, the real question:
    Given that a significant number of subscribers are having the above referenced issue with attempting to download the current update for InDesign, WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO, in order to get our contractually paid-for updates to our legally and contractually paid-for Adobe software, specifically in my case, InDesgin's current update?
    Please, NO TECHNICAL mumbo-jumbo which most likely will cause the overwhelming majority of users, like me, to seriously corrupt their computer files, but rather an honest, straightforward "what to do" from real CS/Engineers working for Adobe, as to how to FIX this issue, period.
    ===========================================================
    UPDATE:
    Here is a way in which I think I was able to "update" my InDesign CC application:
    (1) Sign-In to your Adobe Account
    https://www.adobe.com/
    (2) Click on the MENU icon
    (3) Click on the product InDesign icon
    Your browser should display the page for Adobe InDesign CC
    https://www.adobe.com/products/indesign.html?promoid=KLXLU
    (4) Click on the Download icon,
    Your browser should now display the page to download InDesign,
    https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/indesign
    (5) a Pop-Up window should open, and display:
      Launch Application
      This link needs to be opened with an application.
    with the first option to select being the CreativeCloud(URIHandler)
    (5) Select this application and click OK.
    What happened when I followed steps (1) thorugh (5) is that:
    (a) InDesign CC(2014) was installed,
    (b) InDesign CC, updated, and then
    (c) InDesign CC(2014), also updated.
    Why this all worked, is a mystery to me.
    Looks like a separate, "new" version of InDesign, InDesign CC(2014), was installed, the existing "old" InDesign was updated, and then the newly installed Indesign CC(2014) was further updated.
    A BIT MORE, when I launched my InDesign CC app, and checked to see if there were Updates Available, there in fact was an Adobe InDesign CC 64 bit (9.2.2) update.
    I clicked on UPDATE and my "old" InDesign CC app was "successfully updated."
    FURTHER INFO:  I may have neglected to list some important info ... OS:  Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, 64-bit
    Confused, I am able to launch BOTH of these apps, and hopefully I may use one of these versions of the InDesign CC app, to do some InDesign work.
    Will keep y'all posted!

  • Error while transporting update rule.

    Hi experts

          IC=0PP_DS03 IS=0CO_OM_OPA_6 error when checking update rules

    Hi  Swati,
    Before transporting the update rule, in the present scenario, you have to transport the infosource which contains the corresponding "0recordmode".
    Whenever you transport anything into the quality or production, the list should be as followed in the given manner :
    Seq No     Objects in Request
    1     Package(DEVC), InfoArea(AREA), Application Component(APCO)
    2     Function Modules
    3     Keyfigure Catalog(IOBC), Keyfigures(IOBJ), Units(IOBJ)
    4     Characteristic Catalog(IOBC), Characteristic Infoobjects(IOBJ)
    5     Infosources (ISCS, ISTD, ISMP, ISTS, ISFS, ROUT) and
                    Generic Data Sources(DataSrce Active Version(OSOA), ISMP, ISTS,DataSourceReplica (ISFS)
                    and Tables (TABL)
    6     Infoproviders(ODS(ODSO), Cube(CUBE), Infoset(ISET))
    7     Update Rules(UPDR, ROUT)
    8     Infopackages(ISIP)
    9     Queries(ELEM)
    10     Webtemplates(TMPL, BLTM, BPTM)
    Just transport all your things in the above sequence, and it will be done successfully.
    Also, remember  there should not be any data in the corresponding infoprovider while you transfer the update rule, else it will fail.
    Hope it helps,
    Regards,
    Neha.

  • Error when activating update rule

    HI BI Expert,
    The original transfer rule for 2LIS_11_VAITM was deleted accidently and I created new one and mapped with the existing infosource. The system always generates the following error at the time of transport to another client.
    Error when activating update rule D1GOAPD9O0P9CFOY8KBSOUDFA
    Activation of the update rules for ZO_SOP_1 ZT_SOP_SALO_ITM
    IC=ZO_SOP_1 IS=ZT_SOP_SALO_ITM error when checking the update rules.
    Would you kindly be able to suggest me what steps I need to take so as to correct this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    When you say that update rule was accidently deleted, was that attached to transport request and transported to your QA & PRD at that time.
    Because it may happen that, your old rules are still there in QA & PRD and the new rules are failing to overwrite that.
    If it is the case, then you may have to open the client for QA & PRD and delete the existing update rule (doesnt sound good practice though), and then create a fresh update rule and transport.

    Vikram.

  • "Error when activating update rule" after changing ODS key

    Hi Gurus,
    I have problem when transporting in productive system an existing ODS & the update rule linked. The message is  :  "Error when activating update rule".
    This is when i move one field from the key to a simple field of the ODS.
    Before transporting requests, i deleted data in the ODS by right-click on ODS --> Request tab --> select the request --> click on delete....
    I don't understand because i did the same in Qual environment and everything is OK : transport request & ODS loading...
    Please help.....

    Hello,
    Please try to check/perform the following steps:
    1- You must ensure for the update rule have mapping between infosources
       and ODS/CUBEs correct, this means that also these objects need
       to be of the same version in the source system of the transport as in
       target system.
    2- Please ensure all infoobjects in the cube are active.Please
       reactivate all the objects again in source system.
    3- Ensure all infoobjects are found in the communication structure.
    4- Please try to collect the update rule via BW transport connection
       with the grouping option "only necessary objects" and then transport
       those objects again.
    Could you please reactivate the infocube and its update rules again
    and then create a new transport for this infocube and transport it
    again.
    Best regards,
    Paula Csete

    2. Error when activating update rule 7NT4WIDPDCN2ERFDRXIGH95PM
    IC=ZSDPCXY2 IS=2LIS_12_VCHDR error when checking the update rules
    and etc.
    Then we activated and saved all the erroneous update rules in another tranport request(YYYYYYYY) and again we transported alongwith the previous transport request(XXXXXXXX).
    The last request(YYYYYYYY)was successfully tranported and still there are same errors in TR(XXXXXXXX).
    Quick answers will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    Next time you would have transport only (YYYYYYYY). Transport Request (XXXXXXX) was not required to be moved.
    Normally Update Rule gets deactivated in QA when any changes to the CUbe/ODS are moved.
    Thus either you can transport transport request for only active update rule to QA or activate your UR directly in QA system in case you have authorization to do that.
