ERROR OPENING PDF FILES DOWNLOADED FROM INTERNET

I have a problem when I download a pdf file from Internet and I try to open in throughout Acrobat Reader. It appeared one error saying "The file path is not valid". What can I do?.

Hi there,
I found this can happen if the file does not download correctly. When this happens, simply try redownloading the file and wait until it has fully downloaded before doing anything else with the browser.
Does that work now?

    Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from the internet that was fine with Leopard before. I just got a black screen when I clicked on a pdf icon on a given internet site, and same happened with several sites that I visited. How can I overcome this obstacle ?

    Try two things with Safari not running:
    1) Launch Adobe Reader, open its preferences, select the Internet category, and check the values under "Display PDF in browser using".  If it's checked, try unchecking it.
    2) Look in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (at the top-level of your boot volume) for something names AdobePDFViewer.plugin.  If you see such a file, try moving it to a folder named "Disabled Plug-Ins" (if such a folder exists) or onto the Desktop.
    Then see how things work.

  • Error while opening PDF file downloaded  from database Blob column

    Hi All,
    I am working on jdev 11.1.1.4.0.
    In my use-case I am using filedownload Actionlistner on a link to get the PDF file stored in the database in blob field. These files are being uploaded from other use-case in adf only.
    After getting the dialog box to open/save/cancel for the PDF file when i click on open then i am getting an error *'Adobe Reader could not open 'abc.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type*
    or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly docoded)' for some files , and to my surprise I am able to open some files.
    When I open these PDF files separately from desktop I am able to view the content of each and every file in adobe reader.
    I dont know where the problem exactly lies , while uploading/downloading the file . Any ideas/thoughts to resolve this issue?
    Thanks
    Kanika

    Thanks a lot Timo...!!!
    I checked the PDF file downloaded directly from the blob column in DB, there only it is corrupted so must be the problem in uploading the file. I am checking the code line by line,, but no problem in setting the file content type,size etc.
    Here is the code snippet ..
    byte[] buff;
    buff = new byte[(int)length]; -- Length is the file size
    int bytesRead = is.read(buff);
    for (int i = 0; bytesRead < buff.length; i++) {
    // int b = is.read();
    int b = is.read();
    if (b == -1)
    break;
    buff[i] = (byte)b;
    BlobDomain blobDomian = new BlobDomain((buff));
    TestVORow = (TestVORow Impl)TestVO.createRow();
    if(blobDomian != null) {
    TestVORow.setAttachment(blobDomian);
    am.getTransaction().commit();
    This seems to be Ok to me..the same issue, file is still corrupting.
    Any thoughts from your side ???
    Thanks
    Kanika
    The problem is resolved.
    Changes made are instead of
    InputStream is;
    used ... BufferedInputStream bis ;
    and after
    for (int i = 0; bytesRead < buff.length; i++) {
    // int b = bis.read();
    int b = bis.read();
    if (b == -1)
    break;
    buff[i] = (byte)b;
    bis.close(); // use this close bufferedInput Stream.
    Able to open each and every file now..Thanks for your suggestions Timo and Frank.

  • I have a problem with opening PDF files downloaded from anywhere!

    I can view them ok in Safari, but when I save and download them, they are displayed with the Preview image and will not open.
    When I click them, a message says that 'the file may be damaged or not recognised by Preview'.
    I have cleaned up my computer (apple help ) but still, the problem remains. I downloaded the same file to my MacBook pro, and it saved it in the usual PDF format, (completely different image from above), and opened perfectly well.
    I have checked the settings in Preview and they seem to be set correctly so that Preview will open PDF files.
    What next?
    I am desperate!

    See if you can delete any Adobe PDF plugins from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/. Then quit and re-open your web browser and try again.

  • Acrobat Reader can't open PDF file downloaded from the internet

    I downloaded the following pdf file from the internet and saved it to the desktop. When I tried to open the file I got a message saying Acrobat couldn't open it. I do not have trouble opening other PDF files. There is something about opening certain PDF files from the internet that is causing this. Is there a setting in the PDF preferences that is causing this or some security setting.
    http://www.porteverglades.net/include/content/docs/media/Port-map-2009.pdf

    It seems that Safari is unable to export the document as a PDF because the exported file was zero bytes. That's why I couldn't open it. I tried Firefox and did a File>Save. It saved the file as a PDF which I was able to open. So proglem solved.

  • Opening PDF files downloaded from IE 7

    Whenever a new PDF file is downloaded via IE 7 my Adobe Reader will not open it and I receive an error msg. indicating that a version of Adobe Reader is alaready running with directions to close the app.

    You downloaded the PDF documents to your local disk?  Or you open them directly in IE7?  Did you try to close the app (AcroRd32.exe) from Task Manager?

  • Issue with opening PDF file link from Safari

    Hi Everyone,
    I got a problem with opening PDF file link from Safari 4.04. Instead of getting a normal pdf content, it shows some weird characters. Not sure it is something wrong with Adobe Reader Plugin or Safari?
    I have uploaded a screenshot of the issue in the adobe forum (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/531870). Please help!
    Many Thanks,
    John

    There's nothing wrong, except the fact that you have Adobe Reader installed. You don't need it, so get rid of it; it will only cause problems with Safari. What you're seeing is the contents of the PDF file, rather than having it displayed.
    If you want to download a PDF file, you can either Control-click on the link and choose "Download Linked File As…", or you can Option-click on the link for the file and it will be downloaded to your Download folder (usually your Desktop).
    If you want to view a PDF file in Safari, you don't need Adobe Reader; Safari is perfectly capable of doing this by itself and has been for years. Adobe Reader will only get in the way and slow everything down.

    Hi Eidda,
    This may because the attachment is a winmail.dat file. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for more information. Note: the article is written for OS X mail, but does also apply to this situation.

  • How can I save the .mp4 files downloaded from internet to ipad memory so that I don't have to download everytime to view them again

    How can I save the .mp4 files downloaded from internet to ipad memory so that I don't have to download everytime to view them again. Also they might remove them from internet so I can't rely on the bookmark to them.

    I'm trying to send home movies to my 10 year old nephew who lives across the country. He doesn't have a computer. He has an iPod touch. His parents have computers. But I don't want everything I ever try to have him do result in "you need your parent's computer for this." It's getting really embarrassing. I have converted my family over to Apple computers but now they want to buy iPhones, iPads, and iPods even though I tell them to go Android. It took a decade to convert them away from windows now I'm trying to keep them away from these freedom limited iOS devices and they won't listen. Then it becomes my responsibility to make their iPads print to their fancy pre-airprint color laser jet printers, get home movies onto them, and countless other things. It's driving me nuts.
    I have converted these files to a format that the iOS devices will play directly off of dropbox. Now, how do I get the infernal devices to save it instead of play it?

  • Errors opening pdf files

    In the last few months my iMac can't seem to open pdf files that it saves from the Web (I can airdrop a pdf file onto it, from my MBP, and my iMac will open that) or tries to generate itself. I get similar error messages using either Preview or the Acrobat reader. on preview the error reads "The file "NAME OF FILE" could not be opened because it is empty."  any ideas folks?

    Somehow you're not getting complete downloads of your PDF files. An empty file means no data besides the file header got saved onto your drive. Perhaps you should review the method you are using to download or otherwise receive these PDF files and see what may be amiss in the process.
    What are you using to save them from the Web?
    BTW, you really are still in Mac OS 9? What Mac you have running? Obviously not, you're using Preview. But you may want to update your profile info.

  • Error opening PDF file, using Windows Vista

    When I first purchased my new pc, regrettably, I was given Windows Vista. There have been a lot of problems. Of late, Adobe Reader gives me an error message when I try to open a downloaded file. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader but with no success. Could this be a Vista security issue? I can download and read the file on my work computer which used Windows XP. Also, this problem getting an error message opening and reading a file just recently occurred. I haven't made any changes to my system except automatic program updates. Can you help me?

    I stumbled on a solution: Download the PDF file and instead of saying yes to open the file (because you know you'll get the error message), simply go to where you saved the file (i.e. AOL downloads) and open it there. I have no idea why I suddenly cannot open PDF files but at least I found a way to still get my information. Hope this helps.

  • I am unable to open PDF files created from another PGM.

    Is there an ADOBE pgm that will properly read in PDF files created from another pgm and convert them to ADOBE PDF so they do not error when they are opened to be viewed by ADOBE pgm?

    There is no way to know all the different scan/fax/pdf printers that are used to make the original PDFs...
    CAD-KAS PDF Editor 2.6 is used to edit the files
    doPDF 5 is used to modify pdf file.
    Interesting, I can use the free CAD-KAS PDF reader to open & read the PDF file that the ADOBE XI reader
    gives me the above error message.

  • Since upgrading to OSX Yosemite cannot open word files downloaded from email.

    I have recently installed OSX Yosemite on my late 2010 macbook air. Since upgrading I have been unable to open files in Word that I have downloaded from my email. Old word files seem to work fine. My university has given faculty access to "Office 365" and that is what I use for my email. However whenever I try and download a word file from my email the computer opens word for a second - I can see the first page of the document - and then immediately closes. This happens regardless of whether or not I open the file from my computer in my desktop or in my downloads folder, or just download another copy from my email. The word file works fine on another windows computer, it's only on this mac that Office 2011 crashes every time I try and open this new file. Please advise?
