Error RMAN connection to auxiliary database ORA- 12514

Hi,
I'm trying to make a clone of my database in another server but when I'm trying to connect as follow the RMAN return
to me the error ORA-12514.

  • Error while connecting to  Auxiliary Database

    Hi
I am practicing Cloning the database on my Personal Computer. I am following the steps outlined here
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/9i/DuplicateDatabaseUsingRMAN9i.php
But while connecting to Auxiliary database I get this error.
RMAN - 04006 Error from auxiliary database: ORA 12514 TNS: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
RMAN - 00554 initialization of internal recovery manager package failed...
what is the solution for this?
This is 10g database and my PC has Opensuse 11 OS
I think the problem is in configuring listener. But I am following the instructions given in that page....

    You probably skipped this part
Next add the appropriate entries into the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files in the $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory. Remember to load the new configuration into the listener:
Which is why you are getting the error. The database needs to register itself with the listener. This doesn't happen in nomount mode.
Other than that: there is an option in database control to duplicate a database in 10g. Using that you only need to hit buttons. Why are you using 9i code and policies?

NOREDO would be used when you have a Consistent Backup (i.e. backup taken when the database is MOUNTed but not OPEN) and so, no archivelogs need to be applied. (This would also be the case for a NOARCHIVELOG database).
See the notes on NOREDO in the DUPLICATE command documentation in the Backup and Recovery Reference.

Hi all and thanks for your response,
RMAN client is 10.1.0.3.0. Auxiliary instance is 10.2.0.3 (same as target).
    I modified auxiliary init.ora with:
    SHARED_POOL_SIZE=64M
I had created the auxiliary instance as said in the manual (I think), using orapwd, oradim, creating a init.ora file, etc.
I don't remember that SHARED_POOL_SIZE was mandatory for the init.file of the auxiliary instance...
However, i restarted the instance (nomount), and now I can connect the auxiliary instance from RMAN :)
However; i was going to create a duplicate database useing the DUPLICATE command. Everything went smoothly, all datafiles restored to correct path, but when RMAN finaly was trying to CREATE CONTROLFILE... I hit this error:
SQL-setning: CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE SET DATABASE "W558DUP" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG

I also tried the CREATE CONTROLFILE ( referencing all datafiles) from sql*plus but got the same error.
My auxiliary init.ora files contain the COMPATIBLE=10.2.0.3.0 parameter.
Could I set compatibility to, say 10.1 (since the bug reference the 10.2 compatibility mode) ??

  • "no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" error when connecting a TNS database co

    Hi
"no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" error when connecting a TNS database connection
I have the same problem 'error code' when testing the connection to a database although I have an APEX db that connects without a problem.
I have re downloaded jre & SQL Developer just to ensure all files are where they should be with no luck.
I've also tried most of the suggestions in various threads.
Does anyone know what exactly causes this error?
eg; should I be looking for a file called 'ocijdbc11' & put it into the 'java.library.path' path?
Can anyone explain to a newbie at db connections what I should do?
I'm using the 'thin' client as the checkbox is clear & I don't know what path to enter into the correct file to make this work??
This is & needs to connect as a TNS connection & was working fine until recently, the only change I can think of is a move of files from the 'C' drive but I thought redownloading SQL Developer would slove this.
    Thanks

When you reinstalled SQL Developer, did you install into a new directory (ie rename or delete the old directory first)?
I don't know if system setup contains directory references (which might be invalid after moving the location of SQL Developer). Does renaming your system2.1.1.64.45 directory (in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\SQL Developer) help? Note that your connections are in the connections.xml file in the o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.2.36.55.30 subdirectory of system2.1.1.64.45 - you will either need to export connections before renaming and then import again after or copy this file to test if you can connect.
Finally, the TNS Names directory preference is just a way of telling SQL Developer where to look for the tnsnames.ora file, rather than just assuming it will pick the right one. If you go to create a new connection, do you get the right list of TNS aliases? If not, then set this preference to the directory where the right tnsnames.ora file lives.

  • Error while connecting to the database from a JSP Page

    Hi,
I am using a simple JSP page which is based on the sample JSP pages from OTN.
When I try to connect to my database using the following code:
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    OracleDataSource ds = (OracleDataSource)ic.lookup("jdbc/OTN9iDS");
    m_connection = ds.getConnection();
    I get the following error:
Naming exception Error while connecting to the database : javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: jdbc/OTN9iDS not found in JDBCTest-JDBCTestProject-webapp
Does anybody know wht this is happening?
    Any help would be appreciated
    FRank

    Hi Frank,
Are you using standalone OC4J or 9iAS ? If you are using standalone OC4J then you need to add a proper data source entry in %OC4J_HOME%j2ee\home\config\data-sources.xml file.
If you are using 9iAS the you can log in to the Enterprise Manager console and add the data source entry by using wizard provided by 9iAS.
Ensure the case of the JNDI lookup string, since, it is case sensitive.
    Hope this helps.

obviously the database aux1 hasnt been created yet but i have configured the tns and listener and both work fine, also created a password file and created a pfile from the spfile in the primary database as instructed by the book. I also started the aux1 database in nomount mode as well.
does any one have any ideas where i maybe going wrong?
    thanks

conn sys/pwd@aux1 as sysdba ,what happens to this
    in sqlplus

  • Suddenly unable to connect Reports to database: ORA 12154 TNS can't resolve

Beginning end of last week, the Reports development tool (rwbuilder v10.1.2.0.2) suddenly lost the ability to connect to the database. The error is ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve the connect identifer specified.
However, nothing has changed on either the database or my workstation. SQL*Developer and the Network Administrator can both access the database, confirming the configuration of TNSNAMES.
A fresh install of the DevSuite (rwbuilder v9 something) onto another workstation yielded the same error. The problem seems to be with Reports, not my workstation, my TNSNAMES configuration, or the database itself.
What could possibly cause the database to reject only Reports?

Well, continued searching this forum revealed the answer. It was found in:
ORA - 12154 - Unable to resolve TNS..
It seems that something did, indeed, change on my workstation. I renamed all of the TNSNAMES.ORA files other than the one used by the network administrator. It seems that Oracle*Reports requires its own copy of the TNSNAMES file. What I don't understand is how it gets updated when changes are made to the real TNSNAMES file via the network administrator.
In any event, I'm back up and running. Sorry for the wasted bandwidth.

  • Connect to Remote Database - ORA-12154

When attempting to use OCI to attach to a remote database I cannot resolve the service name.
However, I am able to connect using tnsping.
    Example output is:
    bash-2.03$ bin/msgoptim mo password mo
    Message Optimiser - Version 1.0
    Oracle DB Initialising
Database Access Error - ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
    Abort (core dumped)
    bash-2.03$ tnsping mo

    (c) Copyright 1997 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Attempting to contact (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=qld)(PORT=1521))
    OK (0 msec)
The remote database name is fed to the OCIServerAttach call as in :
checkerr( errhp, OCIServerAttach( svrhp, errhp, (text*) server.c_str(),
    (sb4) server.length(), 0));
Am I doing this in the correct location, or am I missing something else in the process for remote databases.
I have no trouble connecting to a local database with a empty string in the OCIServerAttach call.
    Thanks in anticipation.

ORA-12154: "Could not resolve service name"
    ORA-12541: "No listener"
ORA-12154: "Could not resolve service name"
When you try to connect to your database through Developer, try using the connect_string you've been using with .world added to it (sometimes it's appended to your connect_string automatically, and if your sqlnet.ora file has NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN and NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE set to anything other than 'world' then you may have to create a new sqlnet.ora file and set NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN and NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE to world for it to work properly.
    ORA-12541: "No listener"
You just need to verify that the listener is running and also is listening for the SID or CONNECT_DATA value being sent be PL/SQL Developer. For example, if the listener on your remote machine is listening for 'pl_sql' but when you try to connect to the remote database the PL/SQL Developer is sending a request to connect to 'plsql', then there is 'no listener' listening for 'plsql' and it fails. IF you can connect to the remote database via sqlplus, but then when you try it from PL/SQL Developer and it fails, that means the listener is in fact running, but not listening for the correct string being sent to it by the application.
    Hope this helps.

If this does not work, then Oracle HSO will also not work.
Once you have confirmed that this is working, then configure the HSO service for Oracle.
If that fails, enables ODBC client tracing for that HSO service (in the init file for that service) to see exactly what ODBC calls Oracle is making and which of these are failing.
