Error when extending Active Directory schema
Hi there,
I am trying to extend my active directory schema in order to store my managed preferences in AD.
I am following this white paper : http://images.apple.com/business/solutions/it/docs/Modifyingthe_Active_DirectorySchema.pdf
When I try to apply the changes on my test domain controller (running W2k3 R2 SP2), I get the following error :
Entry DN: cn=apple-mount,cn=Schema,cn=Configuration,DC=TOTO,DC=CHIPS
Add error on line 674: No Such Attribute
The server side error is "The parameter is incorrect."
An error has occurred in the program

Which is line #674? Looking over your listing, the only thing that stands out to me is that I think possSuperiors takes object class names, not IDs (i.e. "possSuperiors: 2.5.6.5" should be "possSuperiors: organizationalUnit"). Also, if you copy and paste sections from the PDF, you're likely to get leading and trailing spaces on the pasted lines, which all need to be removed for it to function properly. The trailing spaces are especially nasty, since they're invisible in most text editors.

Questions about Extending Active Directory Schema
We have about 24 Macs at the moment in the environment and we are starting to look at Extending the Active Directory Schema. I have been doing a lot of reading over the past few weeks and I think that I am more confused the more I research it. The Windows Servers here are running Server 2008_R2. So here are my questions:
1. If we extend the schema does that mean that we do not need an OS X Server?
2. Is this really the easiest option to go with?
3. We are looking to be able to apply GPOs to the Macs through Active Directory so will this accomplish it?
4. Will this also allow Group Policy Preferences to map printers to the Macs automatically too?
5. Is this the least expensive option?
6. What is the best way to convince the Windows Administrators that this is how we should proceed?
Thanks
PadsHi
1. Yes. However OSX Server offers far more than MCX or Mac-Style GPOs. NetBoot, SUS, Wiki are some you should be looking at IMO.
2. Again IMO not really. It takes a lot of work and you really don't want to be doing this on a 'live' server. Set up a lab environment first, thoroughly test it and then go with it when you're happy. The other possible 'gotcha' is you will have no way of knowing if Microsoft decide to change/amend or extend their own proprietary schema in a Revision update sometime in the future. If that does happen then you may be looking at doing it all over again?
3. Yes, but you will still need WorkGroup Manager installed on a mac client. The documentation is clear about what to do once the Schema has been extended.
4. Not done this myself but I would think so.
5. Yes, but is it the 'best' option? Not in my opinion.
6. Offer them the 'easier' but more expensive alternatives (some of them very expensive) and see which way they jump.
HTH?

any one help me to fix this issueHi,
It is most likley due to a replication Issue in your AD, check the previous thread on the topic:https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/1d377109-4fa9-4608-8a3a-cefd436e82ee/error-8224-when-extending-active-directory-schema
Make sure that all replication issues are solved and try again.

got event ID 4015 and source DNS-Server-Service. please suggest how to fix this issue
The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.
RajHi
first run "ipconfig /flushdns" and then "ipconfig /registerdns" finally restart dns service and check the situation, also you can check dns logs computer management ->Event viewer->Custom Views->Server roles->DNS. -
Active Directory Schema Extension for Directory Synchronization - ADFS 3.0, Office 365
Hi Team,
We are in a situation with extending the schema for one customer so that these additional exchange attributes may be utilized. They have a single data center where the Primary Domain Controller resides and have multiple remote sites each of which have Additional
Domain Controllers installed.
As recommended by Microsoft, I am going to extend the Active Directory Schema with Exchange Setup so that I can leverage targetaddress attribute from Local AD to set primary email address when directory synchronization happens.
My Query: Do I have to extend the AD Schema with Exchange from each of these ADC's? Or the changes I make on any of them will replicate over the others also?
Note: The customer will be using ADFS 3.0 'Single Sign On' with Office 365 and does NOT have any On-Premise Exchange deployment. My Query: Do I have to extend the AD Schema with Exchange from each of these
ADC's? Or the changes I make on any of them will replicate over the others also?
Schema extension is done against the Schema Master. Once done, it gets replicated to other DCs with the AD forest.
For more details about Schema Extension by Exchange, you can refer to that: http://www.resdevops.com/2013/02/13/extend-ad-schema-to-allow-greater-office-365-management/

Dear all,
We have an issue regarding active directory user registry. Our application wants to retrieve the user registry from active directory,
So after we type the domain name, username and password for the domain admin, the apps add a schema in the AD, usually we directly can get the respons from the active directory server.
Below is the log from the configuration

MCP/MCSA/MCTS/MCITP -
I have Sharepoint Foundation installed with the latest CU updates. It is running on a VMware box (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) with its backend on a SQL Server 2008 R2 vmware box. The farm account is a domain user and has been given all appropriate
replication rights, etc to active directory.
Everything seems to be working fine except for security integrated with AD groups. When I go to edit permissions I can add individual AD users just fine and remove them just fine and their access is taken away right away or given to them right away.
I can also find AD groups in the people picker and add them to the site. When I add new groups to AD, they are found immediately within Sharepoint, and when I delete groups from AD, they are taken out of the people picker right away. Now comes
the weird part. When I add an AD group to the site, all users currently within that AD group are given access to the Sharepoint Site. This works for the first time only. Now when I add or remove users from the AD groups, it does not update
in SharePoint. For example, I have an AD testuser1 in the AD Group "All Users". testuser1 does not have access to SharePoint. So I add the AD group to the Sharepoint group "Visitors". testuser1 now has read access to the sharepoint
site. Now, I remove testuser1 from the AD group, but testuser 1 still has access to the site even though he is not part of the AD group, nor does he have any individual permissions to the site. Now, I add testuser2 to the ad group. testuser2
does not have access to the site, even though he is part of the ad group.
It seems that the only time AD group security is working for me is when I first initially add the AD group to the site. From then on, it's like sharepoint is caching the members of the group and not updating any new adds or deletes from the groups.
Any ideas? I am lost on where to go from here as I have tried everything from clearing cache files, rebooting servers, iisresets....I think I have at least cornered the problem, but am not 100% sure yet that it is the correct answer. I think it could be 1 of the following 2 scenarios.
Scenario 1: We have 3 web applications setup on our web server ports 80 - Our sharepoint Web app, 2020 - Our My Site Web App, 2040 - Our Search Web app. We are using host headers (http://sharepoint.***.com) instead of a server name. So
we setup our access mappings (Central Admin -> Application Management -> Configure Alternate access mappings) to use the host header (http://sharepoint.***.com) as the default mapping and the server name as the intranet access mapping. By
setting the default access mapping to host headers, i noticed that Sharepoint automatically assumes that all web apps are on port 80. You can see this by going to (Central Admin -> Manage Web Applications). The port listed all 3 web apps on
port 80. So I think when I was doing a profile sync and using mysites, it was messing with my AD security because of this. What I did was the following. I went to Central Admin -> Manage Service Applications -> [Name of your user profile
service] -> Setup my sites. I made sure that my preferred search center had the correct port number on it (mine originally had no port number), that my my site host had a port (again no port number originally), as well as the personal site location.
I then saved this.
Scenario 2: Our user profile sync had 2 BDC connections that were corrupt and throwing errors. I rebuilt the connections, remapped them to the proper user profile property.
I did both of these scenarios above around the same time. I then restarted all my servers, and at last the AD Group security is now functioning appropriately. I have done multiple IIS resets and server restarts. The issue has only reappeared
once. After restarting the machine again, we were back to the AD groups functioning correctly. Because we had the issue reappear once after doing the above, I still do not feel 100% sure that either one of the above corrected the issue completely.
As long as we are up and running currently, I am moving on to other tasks with this project. My only concern that it will break again and I will have to revisit it is when we restart the servers....which is never fun. I will update as I find
a "true" answer to this issue.... Let me know if any of the above helped you or if you find something I may not have thought of. -
How to avoid duplicate DN exception when creating Active Directory Account
I am using OIM 9.1.0.2 to provision Active Directory accounts.
I run into issues when the DN of the user to be created already exists and I would like to know if anyone has some logic I can use to generate a different DN for new user by adding a number or something like that to the DN
Here is an example.
User 1 exists already and their DN: cn=john smith, cn=users, dc=company,dc=org
New user joins the company and his name is also john smith and he has no middle name: so system attempts to create his account as cn=john smith, cn=users, dc=company,dc=org
how can I accomplish this by making the account say cn=john smith_1, cn=users, dc=company,dc=org855640 wrote:

There are two different questions:
1. How to generate a sequence of candidates for the name attribute
2. How to check if a record with the given name candidate already exists in the Active Directory, and hence try the next candidate from the sequence.
The answer for the first part is usually defined by the policy existing in your organization, in the simplest case you can append sequential integer numbers to the end of the original name.
The answer for the second question is not so simple if you use are provisioning with MSAD connector.
There are two places you can put the check:
-- in the pre-populate adapter for the UD_ADUSER_COMMONNAME field
-- in the adpADCSCREATEUSER event handler, which is responsible for new AD user record creation.
Both cases need some coding, since you have to obtain the AD connection and search AD for matching records.
Pros & cons
Placing check code in the pre-populate adapter:
Pros:
the result is visible in the form, administrator can change the pre-calculated value if he wishes
Cons:
you need to have all access to connection parameters, and establish one extra connection
this is not the way OIM is supposed to work :-(
Placing check code in the AD user creation task:
Pros:
you have all access to connection parameters, and open a connection here anyway
Cons:
the result is not present in the form, so no way for manual interaction by administrator here
BTW: this problem is not only related to DN generation, some other AD attributes (e.g. sAMAccountName, mailNickName, userPrincipalName, mail) should be unique in the AD domain scope.

Error when displaying Active Sessions - 500 Internal server error
Hi all,
recently I am getting errors when I want to look up the logged on users in our MII 12.0.2 system. The error displayed is
500 - Internal server error
Application error occurred during request processing
Details: java.util.ConcurrentModificationException: null
Exception id: [0002556FD9C4003400000076000EA16A00045CFF57783831]
Netweaver Log only displays the same error.
Has anyone experienced this kind of error before? All other MII portal items work as usual, it is only "Active sessions" that brings up this error, I would say, 80% of the time I call it.
This error occurs after a GoLive with more users and more traffic on the machine. Could it be some kind of memory problem? Reboot of the system does not help.
MichaelPerhaps the jsp page is not handling something properly - a special character in name or email perhaps?
Have you tried something like:
"/XMII/Illuminator?Service=Admin&Mode=SessionList"
or
"/XMII/Illuminator?Service=Admin&Mode=SessionList&Content-Type=text/xml"
These URL's should produce the desired dataset results - hopefully without the internal server error.

Active Directory schema extensions
Hi
We are in a process of implementing SAP LDAP sync to manage users from MS Active Directory. SAP requires schema extension generated by RSLDAPSCHEMAEXT program to be applied to Active Directory so that report RSLDAPSYNC_USER can be identify SAP users in MS AD.
The MS AD team says that any non miscrosoft schema extensions are not supported as OIDs of the schema might conflict with other applications / patches.
Are the MS AD schema extensions generated by SAP program RSLDAPSCHEMAEXT supported / certified by Microsoft.
HarshHi Harsh,
I would like to point you also to SAP Note 888848 - Notes on schema enhancement with RSLDAPSCHEMAEXT.
It especially states that:
..."The text document generated by RSLDAPSCHEMAEXT was supplied and validate as part of a certification process by the directory vendor."...
that means in this case by Microsoft.
If you decide not to use the schema extension that has been supplied by Microsoft you can use attributes that are already existing in your Active Directory as Juergen already pointed out.
As an example Microsoft Exchange Server creates several additional attributes such as extensionattribute1, ... , extensionattribute15 as part of the installation process. These attributes might be an option for you if you do not want to use the schema extension suggested by RSLDAPSCHEMAEXT.
Please have in mind that the filter attribute that you will use to determine the SAP username should be indexed since this will reduce the synchronization time.

JDeveloper error when extending VO
I have had problems yesterday and today attempting to create an extending VO with the "mandated" RowImpl class. When I click on the Finish button in the wizard, I get the following error:
Error in updating the java files for component: AbcMyReqsVO
Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

If I uncheck the "Generate Accessors" checkbox (as the stack talks about doGenerateAttributeGetCode), the error does not occur.
Can anyone explain this and provide an alternative workaround that allows me to generate by accessor methods? The problem is in the AllReqsVO.xml. All of the view attributes have the following:
<DesignTime>
<Attr Name="_OverrideAttr" Value="true" />
</DesignTime>
This VO doesn’t extend another VO, therefore the _OverrideAttr shouldn’t be in the ViewAttribute definitions. If you manually edit the AllReqsVO.xml file and remove each of those references, then you will be able to Generate Accessors without getting the nullpointerexception. This will also fix the problem with the other VOs that extend this one, like MyReqsGlanceVO. You don’t have to change the MyReqsGlanceVO.xml, just fix AllReqsVO.xml and then you will be able to Generate Accessors when extending MyReqsGlanceVO. -

Big pause too while it tries to lookup from the repository. -
Active directory Schema - Multiple password policies
Hi All,
I am new to AD and would need some suggestion to configure AD. I want to set up AD(2008 R2) for three categories of users: individual, dealers and organisations. Each dealer and each organisation will have further sub-categories based
on their location. I want to set up separate password policies for the above three categories using AD. I wanted to create them as separate OUs. So I would have multiple OUs for each dealer per location (e.g. individual, dealer1loc1, dealer1loc2,
dealer2loc3 and so on)
I know the concept of PSO(Password Settings Object) and that it can only be applied to OU using shadow groups and batch file (to copy users from OU to Shadow Groups). The issue is that the OUs would keep getting added as per requirement (would
be creating new OUs using C#) and then the management of PSO or shadow groups or batch file would be very complicated, not sure if it can be automated.
Also, I have budet constraints to add new servers for each domain and separate password policies.
What could be the possible solution to separate password policies and set up this user structure in Active Directory. I am using W2k8 R2.
Thanks. Thanks Mahdi. In this case, the OUs would get created at run time, so the script needs to get updated at run time as well. I guess this will be not easy to automate.
Also, can you confirm if I can set up separate password policies by creating sub domain(e.g. example.com will be divided into sales.example.com and admin.example.com and this would further be divided as melourne.sales.example.com and sydney.sales.example.com)
and I can set separate password policies for sales.example.com and admin.example.com.
By adding child domains,it is like you are killing a mosquito with a rocket launcher, if you know what I mean. adding child domains increase the cost and administration and also adds complexity to your environment.
From technical perspective it is OK to have child domains, but if I were you I would not add that much complexity to my environment because of a script. I would spend enough time or get help form a skilled script writer to edit the script. Also I am saying
that editing your script to a fully automated script is not impossible, it just needs enough time and skills.
