    Solved. I did a

and it took care.... linking directly to a specific version=bad habit, IMHO.

  • Error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-

    Hi,
I have loaded j2sdk on my machine. I have set the environment variables in my .bash_profile. But everytime i try javac a java file, i receive the following error : java_dev/jdk1.3.1_02/jre/bin/i386/native_threads/java: error while l oading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object fil e: No such file or directory
I have tried searching for libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 on rpmfind but the search results turn up nothing or not what i am looking for.
The distro i am using is Mandrake 10. Downloaded off the IS ftp site. The "locate libstdc++" returns a whole bunch of html files, probably howto's. It finds libstdc++5.0.so. So that is definately an older version. The "find / -iname "returns nothing. I Still have not been able to find a copy of libcompat. Tried rpmsearch.pbone, rpmfind, they only have libcompat packages for other distros, not for mandrake. Tried downloading those and installing, but keep getting bad signature errors. Also Tried to add packages from the distro cd's, but could not find the correct package. Also got hold of the latest jsdk, but that has not helped.
    Any Suggestions?

    jdk1.3.1?
Well, as you see it's trying to locate a shared library (for native threads) and it can't. Either provide the library or use green threads (as I believe they're called)...don't remember how that's done though.
But why jdk1.3.1? I would go for 1.4.2 at the minimum.

That could be an accessibility issue. Check the user with whom you installed Apache server. Check the user has permissions to access the libraries.

Without knowing what you have installed or what modifications you have done it is not possible to say what goes wrong. Like I previously mentioned, you may have installed an incompatible version of a core system library. Sorry, I'm not going to read any installation manual to find out what you might have done wrong. You may need to reinstall the complete system or just the popt installation package.
Based on my experience people sometimes seem to misunderstanding the concept of software version requirements, which are always minimum version requirements and does not mean, for instance, software made for gcc 4.1.10 does not work under 4.1.12. You cannot simply upgrade or downgrade core system libraries without affecting the installed system. Using YUM to install software will check this and prevent you from breaking your system. RPM does not check any dependencies and hence can break your system beyond repair.

After reading the installation script, I figure out which is the evil file. I just post it here so if someone get into this problem in the future, he can fix it.
    Here is the solution:
Assume you are at the directory where the install.sh is. Do the following:

    -bash-3.1$ cp tuxedo91_32_SLES_9_x86.bin tuxedo91_32_SLES_9_x86.bin.bak
