Estimate time delay during execution

Hi, everyone.
Currently, I have a VISA program for reading signals from a GPS receiver. From the program, I want to measure time delay of execution, i.e. time delay between start and end as shown in the jpg. Are there any vi in LabView facilitating this purpose? Thanks a lot.

  • Urgent: Please help. how to solve the time delay during buffer read and write using vc++

    I need to continuously acquire data from daqmx card, write into a file and at the same time corelate (in terms of time) the data with signals from other instruments. The current problem is that there is time delay during read and write data into buffer,thus causing misalignment of the data from multiple instruments. Is there a way to solve  the delay? or Is there a way to mark the time of the data acquisition in the buffer?  If I know the starting time (e.g. 0) of data acquisition and sampling rate (e.g. 1kHz), can I simply add 1ms to each data sample in the buffer? The current code is shown below.

    Hello kgy,
    It is a bit of a judgment call. You should just choose the board that you think has the most to do with your issue. For example, this issue was much more focused on setting up your data acquisition task than the Measurement Studio environment/tools, so the MultifunctionDAQ board would have been the best place for it. As for moving your post to another board, I do not believe that is possible.

  • Does anyone know how to display (in LabVIEW) the memory use during execution of an image and data acquisition VI to predict when it is time to cease the acquisition to prevent the program crashing?

    Does anyone know how to display (in LabVIEW) the memory use during execution of an image and data acquisition VI to predict when it is time to cease the acquisition to prevent the program crashing?
    I am acquiring images and data to a buffer on the edge of the while loop, and am finding that the crashing of the program is unpredictable, but almost always due to a memory saturation when the buffers gets too big.
    I have attached the VI.
    Thanks for the help

  • Loading test steps during execution

    Hello,
    I am using the operator interface from the example. I have modified to suit my application. I run the test using the Single Pass entry point. I have 46 steps in my main sequence. When I press the Single pass execution, Initially it takes a lot of time (I think it compiles all the steps) to start the actual execution.
    Why does it take long time to start execution? Is it possible to configure test stand such that it compiles each step as and when it reaches it?
    Regards
    Gopal

    Hey Gopal,
    As Ray said, TestStand does not actually compile your modules.  That being said, most likely this load time that you're seeing at the beginning of execution is due to your load options set to load the module when execution begins.  If you go to the step properties, notice under "Run Options" there's a "Load Option" drop-down.  You can look at the help for a description of this property, but in general this setting refers to when the module is loaded into memory.  For time-critical tests, you would want to load either at the beginning of execution or when the sequence file is loaded (as this would extract the load time from the step so that the step could be executed quickly); this is especially important if you are looping on a particular step.  There is an option to "Load dynamically" as well.  With this option, you would see a slight delay before each step during which its module is loaded - rather than a longer delay at the beginning (in which all step modules are loaded).
    Note that the default is "Preload when execution begins"; that is why I'm guessing that this is responsible for the delay that you're seeing.
    Thanks,

  • How can I show and hide an image or a decoration on the front panel during execution of the vi?

    Hello,
    I've made a user interface with a little grafic description.
    That description should change depending on user actions, e.g. if the user switches a button, some lines should disappear and some other lines should appear.
    I thought some decorations could be shown and hidden via something like a property node, but that is not possible. Images can also not be hidden during execution of the program.
    Is there any posibility to change a grafic user interface?

    Thanks to Tim for drawing what I suggested as option while I had some real work to do.
    There is a trick of overcoming the index problem that was presented/devloped in the forum in the last month's:
    You can place the decoration inside a cluster, so you can use the lable of the cluster to adress the decoration you want. The data type of the cluster doesn't mather for this, so you will hide the control/indicator. And you colour the cluster transparent (hint: right click with the coloring tool and use space to toggle).

    Although there seems other sequence populating the AUDIT_LOG table through a different sequence with the increment of +10. So till now there are already 1179 different numbers residing in audit_log.seq_no and yet to be generated by the TEMP_AUDIT_SEQ sequence. I will look into more details.
    SQL> select max(seq_no) from audit_log;
    MAX(SEQ_NO)

    SQL> select TEMP_AUDIT_SEQ.nextval from dual;

    SQL> select count(*) from audit_log where seq_no>1675677283 and mod(seq_no,2)=1;

  • Long delay during first resize of visible JFrame (help!)

    I need to increase the size of a component in a visible JFrame (and with it the size of the frame itself). The way I did this using jdk 1.3.1 causes a problem in 1.4.0 and 1.4.1.
    When a component in a visible JFrame (such as a JPanel) is resized - using a setPreferredSize()-pack() sequence, there is a VERY long delay (~ 5 seconds) before the frame is fully redrawn. This only occurs the FIRST time the component is resized. Subsequent setPreferredSize()-pack() sequences take a reasonable amount of time.
    Here's a simple example:
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class PackDelayTest extends JFrame {
        JPanel pan;
        int width;
        static long tm;
        public static void main(String[] argv) {
                tm = System.currentTimeMillis();
            PackDelayTest2 test = new PackDelayTest();
                elapsed("in constructor");
            test.replace(); elapsed("repack 1");
            test.replace(); elapsed("repack 2");
            test.replace(); elapsed("repack 2");
            test.replace(); elapsed("repack 2");
            System.exit(0);
        public PackDelayTest() {
            pan = new JPanel();
            pan.setLayout(new BoxLayout(pan,BoxLayout.Y_AXIS));
            getContentPane().add(pan);
            JLabel label = new JLabel("Label 0");
            pan.add(label);
            pack();
            setVisible(true);
            width = pan.getPreferredSize().width;
        public void replace() {
           Dimension d = pan.getPreferredSize();
           pan.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(++width,d.height));
           pack();
        static void elapsed(String mess) {
            long ct = System.currentTimeMillis();
            System.out.println("Elapsed milliseconds, " + mess + ": " +
                               (ct - tm));
            tm = ct;
    }Running this with Sun jdk 1.3.1 yields the timings:
    Elapsed milliseconds, in constructor: 2226
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 1: 26
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 2: 24
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 2: 25
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 2: 24Running the same code with jdk 1.4.1_0 yields
    Elapsed milliseconds, in constructor: 1773
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 1: [bold]5747[/bold]
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 2: 32
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 2: 7
    Elapsed milliseconds, repack 2: 1Note the FIVE SECOND delay during the first setPreferredSize()- pack() sequence.
    This problem also occurs with 1.4.0, Blackdown 1.4.1 and IBM 1.4.0, so presumably it is something in Sun's 1.4 code.
    The only way I've found to avoid the initial delay is to set frame invisible
    before the setPreferredSize(), pack() sequence and visible afterwards. But of course this makes the window 'flash' and is very unplesant for users.
    I've looked at the source for pack() but it hasn't gotten me anywhere. If anyone has an idea about fixing this problem or working around it, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
    FYI I ran these tests under Linux, vanilla installations of SuSE 8.0 and 8.1
    Thanks,
    bw

    It turns out that this problem occurs under SuSE (8.0 and 8.1) but NOT under Redhat 8.0
    I do NOT understand how this is possible, but it is the case. Has anyone encountered any SuSE specific problems?
    fyi I've reproduced the problem on two rather different i386 machines (an AMD k7 and a Pentium III thinkpad), so it certainly doesn't have anything to do with hardware.

  • Fpga: Re-Initialize Block Memory during Execution

    Hello,
    I am working on a project in labview fpga 2010, using the Spartan 3e board. At the present, I am using a large chunk of block memory in a VI and initialize it using an initialization VI that reads values from a spreadsheet and places them in the memory. It works for the first time, however I want to be able to re-initialize the memory during execution of the VI (i.e. I overwrite all the values in the table, then after a certain time I wish to reset them back to their initial values). Is there any way of accomplishing this on the FPGA without using double the memory and simply writing the changed values in a different location while leaving the originals unharmed? Thanks for your help

    I think the approach I would take to solve this would be as follows:
    Protect access to the block RAM with helper VIs that provide some level of locking (see http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/6014 for some ideas)
    Lock the block RAM when you're about to change it, and the go ahead and push the new values to the FPGA, pull the old values to remember them on the host, or both
    Unlock when you've completed updating the RAM contents.
    Note that, depending on how large this block RAM is, this approach could be painfully slow (since the Spartan 3E boards don't support DMA, you'll have to create your own mechanism for pushing the data to the device)

    I checked C:\WINDOWS\Installer\ for "7affd.msi" - there is no such file. Also I checked same folder on Win7-64 machine and Notebook WinXP-Pro - there is no such file. I was able to install Express on both Win7-64 and Notebook, but not on this machine.
    I've tried searching for "7affd.msi" on internet without luck. Also I removed all Visual Studio Express 2010 and used any "Fix-It" utilities to check files and registry. And still have same error.
    How to fix it?

  • Are there any disadvantages to writing data to front panel indicators when the vi's panel is not shown during execution?

    Hi,
    In the case where a sub vi's panel is not shown during execution, does it matter if I include front panel indicators on the sub vi's panel? (these indicators were there for debugging purposes). Is there any performance penalty for this? Thanks!

    If the frontpanel is not loaded it has no time penalties. But a frontpanel is sometimes loaded because of property nodes!

    I cannot open your VIs.  It appears that the language differences may be an issue. LabVIEW does not recognize them as valid LV files.
    Generally when a VI runs correctly with Highlight Execution on and does not run correctly with it off, it is an indication that there are timing issues in the VI.
    If you are reconfiguring the serial ports in the 54 module version, you may not be allowing enough time for port to get set up before attempting to communicate. Do you have 54 different serial ports? What kind of hardware are you using for the ports?

  • Time Delay Indicator

    This should be the simplest thing to do, but I'm getting stuck for some reason: I have a time delay running for a user-specified number of seconds, and I want an indicator on the front panel showing how much of this time has elapsed. I thought the "Elapsed Time" VI would be exactly what I was looking for, but I can't seem to get it to do what I want. I've attached my attempt; if you can point out where I'm going wrong, it would be much appreciated.
    Solved!

    You don't have a while loop, so your code only runs once.
    Your time delay is running in parallel with the elaspsed time.  So it will delay the execution of the code.
    Get rid of the time delay and put the elapsed time and its indicator in a loop.

  • Time Delay to wait for a solenoid to open

    I have a Shutter that opens fine but I need to wait with some Time Delay before I continue to process some information.
    I am using Labview 7.0 and have a DaqPad-6016.

    It would be helpful to see your code to see exactly what you are doing.
    However, LabVIEW does have several options for waiting. I have attached a screenshot showing some of these. The time delay is especially useful with DAQ because you can wire your task's error wire through the wait. This will cause the delay to explicitly happen in between the execution of VIs.
